What does this mean for Paramount+, and will this help them challenge the streaming heavyweights for the top spot in the industry? The fellas take a look at the upcoming panels for New York Comic Con and give some early thoughts on which ones seem to stand out. Vought Rising gave us a first look at some costumes, Crunchyroll and Delta Airlines partner up, Fallout: Season 2 looks to be headed to New Vegas, and the rift between Beau DeMayo and Kevin Feige gets even uglier. Rai from the Gentleman's Guide to Midnite Cinema to discuss yet another SUPERHERO film: the eagerly awaited The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The MCU is still floundering of late, far from its billion dollar a movie hey day. The ingredients are all there: Visionary director (Matt Shakman who created WandaVision), incredible cast (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Barach, and Joseph Quinn), a retro-futuristic look, key Marvel characters (Galactus, Silver Surfer, Mole Man). Will this restore the MCU to greatness and finally herald a true vision of Marvel's first family or is it more Kevin Feige-trickery and just a placeholder for the next (Doomsday) movie? Alright, in this episode we bounce around a bit—AI, social media trends, random life stuff—but the real juice is all about the latest Marvel and DC movie news. The crew dives into the new Fantastic 4 flick, throws some shade (and some love) at Taika Waititi directing Judge Dredd, and unpacks all the casting rumors and plot teases from the MCU and DCU. Quick hits: • The Sydney Sweeney x American Eagle ad drama takes center stage. We shut down the Nazi imagery claims—says it's a reach. • Taika's officially doing Judge Dredd and everyone's kinda like… “Will the goofy vibes work for this one?” • The Fantastic 4 reboot is getting solid praise—great characters, solid writing—but a few folks wish it dug a little deeper. • Marvel boss Kevin Feige's got a whole seven-year MCU roadmap cooked up: reboot with Franklin Richards, fresh takes on Blade and X-Men, and a pivot toward younger fans and heroes like Spidey. • Over in DC land, James Gunn's teasing multiverse madness, maybe a new Batman, and upcoming shows like Peacemaker (yep, it's back) and Creature Commandos. To pay for his daughter Vienna's ballet school in Paris, he returns to pro golf—and chaos ensues. The film leans hard into callbacks, celebrity cameos, and legacy sequel nostalgia. Director: Kyle Newacheck Writers: Tim Herlihy & Adam Sandler Cast: Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin Ben Stiller as Hal L. (in sobriety group leadership) Bad Bunny as Happy's new caddy Benny Safdie as golf mogul Frank Manatee Additional Cast: Sunny Sandler (Vienna), Sadie Sandler, Travis Kelce, Margaret Qualley, John Daly, Rory McIlroy, Eminem (cameos), and more sport & music legends Production Notes: Produced by Happy Madison and STX Films, filmed in North Jersey over fall 2024; directed by Newacheck with music by Rupert Gregson-Williams. The production is built around cameo-heavy nostalgia and real-world athletes. Budget: Estimated at $30 million, modest compared to legacy sequel standards. Distribution: Released globally via Netflix on July 25, 2025. Reception: Critics remain divided—mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (65%) and Popcornmeter (~70%). Praise comes for Sandler's commitment and cameo spectacle; criticism centers on overreliance on callbacks, tonally uneven storytelling (including a shocking death), and lazy legacy sequel tropes. Some outlets called it a “cinematic disaster,” while others saw it as funny and heartfelt escapism. Rating out of 10 Cameo Filled Nostalgic Rounds of Maxi Golf Darryl: 2/10 Brian: 7.5/10 Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) Summary Set in a retro‑futuristic 1960s alternate universe (Earth‑828), Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm are already established heroes expecting their first child. When cosmic threats like Galactus and Silver Surfer emerge, the team must band together to save the world—and their family dynamic. Director: Matt Shakman Writers: Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer; story contributions by Kat Wood Cast: Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic) Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman) Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) Ebon Moss‑Bachrach (The Thing) Julia Garner (Silver Surfer) Ralph Ineson (Galactus) Paul Walter Hauser (Mole Man/Harvey Elder) John Malkovich as Red Ghost (cameo) Production Notes: Filmed at Pinewood Studios in the UK with shoots in Derbyshire Dales and Oviedo; styled with practical miniatures, retro‑futuristic set design reminiscent of Jack Kirby comics; score by Michael Giacchino recorded at Abbey Road Studios; executive production overseen by Kevin Feige; post‑credits nod to late producer Jamie Christopher and director's mother Inez Shakman in homage scenes Budget: Estimated over $200 million Box Office (Opening Weekend): Domestic 3‑day: $117.6–118M across 4,125 theaters (including ~$57M previews) International: $100M from 52 territories Global debut: ~$218M Reception & Context: Critical consensus: ~88% on Rotten Tomatoes; CinemaScore “A‑” reflects strong audience response. Reviews praise cast chemistry, emotional grounding, and visual style—though tone is more serious than comic-minded critics expected. Some reviewers note a pacing lull and lack of overt humor from a director known for lighter work. Industry analysts call this the first confirmed MCU blockbuster of 2025—ushering in Phase 6 with confidence and momentum after previous underperformers. This July, Ryan and David are diving into the premiere of Ironheart—critics gave it a 77%, audiences gave it a 47%, but what did we think? Then we go cosmic with a deep dive into Fantastic Four: First Steps! We explore the film's comic book roots, the all-star cast (hello Pedro Pascal, Julia Garner, and Galactus!), and how this new take sets the stage for the MCU's future. We also break down Kevin Feige's flurry of interviews pre-SDCC no-show, including big shake-ups for Disney+, news on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, updates on Blade, X-Men, and Black Panther 3, and some major behind-the-scenes shifts—like Marvel stepping away from Kang before Quantumania even hit theaters. Finally, we preview the upcoming animated series Iron Man and His Awesome Friends (yes, that theme song is by Mark Hoppus). New shows, new teams, and maybe a little chaos—just another month in the MCU. Themes by J.R. Trimpe: https://trimpe.org/ ---------------- Support the show! With Fantastic Four: First Steps opening tomorrow we decided to go back and look at the stories that inspired the latest MCU film - Fantastic Four #48, 49 and 50. These stories see the debuts of the Silver Surfer and Galactus, as well as... Johnny Storm going to college? Let me tell you, the structure of these comics is pretty odd. But they're one of the pinnacles of the legendary Jack Kirby/Stan Lee run. Before that we have a ton of news, and as of this recording there isn't even anything big coming out of San Diego Comic-Con! Kevin Feige spills the beans about an MCU reset, a Booster Gold pilot is being written, there's a new Wonder Woman movie and more. If you don't care about this skip to 47:22. This weekend we will have Fantastic Four: First Steps on Watch Men, so make sure you're subscribed to our Patreon at the $5 level to get it! You'll also gain access to our Superman episode and an incredible back catalog of episodes. Thanks for listening. See you next week!
In this episode, Kaya talks about basketball wives in deep detail and of course she is talking about viral fight between mother and daughter. She also segues chaotically into K-pop demon hunters on Netflix, which everyone should've streamed already. Lastly, She wants Kevin Feige to know that he is going about the wrong way if anyone knows his people tell them to call my people and we can have an amazing productive talk. ► Merch | ► Instagram | ► Follow Kaya | ► Follow Aaron | ► Twitter | A Hurrdat Media Production. The Jock and Nerd gang are back with a loaded episode!
Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesMarvel Studios may be sitting out of this weekend's storied San Diego Comic Hall H, but that hasn't stopped the big news and updates from pouring in. First, last week in a huge move, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige invited a small group of journalists to Marvel Studios' offices where he laid out the future for the next 5 to 7 years for the MCU. The biggest takeaway, arguably, was Feige's cagey hints regarding a likely reset to the universe during the events of Secret Wars, saying, “Reboot is a scary word; Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we're thinking along those lines.” Other tidbits from Feige's comments include a commitment to recasting the X-Men with new actors for their post Secret Wars film, an update on the Mahershala Ali-led Blade film and Sony's mandate that they stay away from a live action Miles Morales until the conclusion of the animated Spider-Verse trilogy. In Marvel news that looks to the more immediate future, director Matt Shakman shared that John Malkovich's role and performance as the Red Ghost has been removed from The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, which opens this week!Superman continues to live up to its name when it comes to its performance, as the superhero flick passed $409 million at the global box office in its second weekend of release. The $58 million second weekend, which is a respectable -54% drop from the opening weekend, is in keeping with 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine and bodes favorably compared to other recent releases from the comic book genre; plus coupled with other wins like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, the latest success has helped Warner Bros become 2025's top earning studio with $1.32 billion in ticket sales. In other news, Variety confirmed Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira has been tapped to pen the Wonder Woman reboot for the DCU in addition to being attached to a live action Teen Titans project for the studio.Lots and lots of trailers hit the interwebs last week, lets run them down and talk about ‘em:Alien: EarthPredator: BadlandsTron: AresStranger Things S5Mortal Kombat IIChristopher Nolan made history by putting tickets on sale for The Odyssey exactly one year before the film's release, marking the first time any movie tickets have sold a full year in advance. The early sales were exclusively for IMAX 70mm screenings at select theaters, supporting Nolan's epic adaptation of the Greek myth that is being shot entirely on IMAX film cameras with a $250 million budget.Hulu announced that Futurama Season 13 will switch from its recent weekly release format to an all-at-once binge drop, with all 10 episodes premiering simultaneously on September 15 at 5 p.m. PT. The change marks a departure from the weekly rollout used for Seasons 11 and 12.Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to star in Robert Eggers' upcoming werewolf horror film Werwulf, with Lily-Rose Depp in talks to join the project in what would reunite the Nosferatu co-stars. Nintendo and Sony's live-action Legend of Zelda movie has cast Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, with Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto revealing the casting choices alongside first-look photos on social media. Taika Waititi is attached to direct a new feature film take on British comic book character Judge Dredd. Drew Pearce, the scribe known for Fall Guy and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, is attached to write the script.Disney's live action Lilo and Stitch has become the first film of 2025 to pass the $1 billion dollar mark at the international box office.Nearly five years after Netflix entered into a content agreement with Ubisoft, the streamer has ordered an Assassin's Creed live-action series, based on the best-selling video game franchise. The project will be created, showrun, and executive produced by Roberto Patino and David Wiener.
