A podcast hosted by sisters, Lor-Shing and Gigi, as we invite you to our dessert dinner table and share good food and conversation!
We kick off Season 3 with our good friends Ann and Yong who reflect on what they call their 'Crazy' year, a year of navigating health challenges, major life changes, sabbatical and parenthood with the pandemic in the backdrop.
In the companion episode to our Mother's Day episode and the last episode of season 2, David Kang joins us in the studio! It was a sweet and simple pleasure to hear David's pure joy and delight in being a dad. We loved the way he expressed his love for his daughter and the sacrifices that come with fatherhood. Enjoy!
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and women we know out there! We celebrate you
We're here in Episode #14 with our long-time friend, Ilene Tsao! In this episode, we reflect back on Ilene's journey with basketball having spent over two decades as a player and professional in the sports industry working for the NBA. We talk about her recent career change and reflection on what change looks like after leaving something that's been part of one's life for a long time. It was such a privilege getting to catch-up with her and listen to her latest self-reflections. We hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did!
In this episode, we interview Albert Wang, a teacher and academic, on his studies of "Humanizing Educators and Teaching". Albert is currently finishing up his Master in Education and will soon be pursuing his PhD. We talk about the theory and application of bringing a humanizing approach to his workplace and everyday classroom setting. We're so grateful for the Albert's sharing and his presence! We hope you enjoy the conversation.
Happy new year Sliced Fruit fam! In our first episode of 2022, we invite our good friend Maria Wang. In our interview we talked about a hot topic nowadays…BTS! We discuss how she, a mom of two and English university professor, became an unlikely fan of the world's current most well-known boy band. We were engrossed by her analysis of their songs and loved hearing her talk about experiencing familiar themes and questions on life through the medium of BTS' discography. We're super grateful for Maria stopping by and telling her story! Lastly, in this sliced segment Lor-shing and Gigi eat pomelos, celebrate Lunar New Year and talk about their current endeavors in fitness.
In this episode, Karen shares about how she came to find community and a love for Cross Fit. As an active therapist in community health, Karen was intentional about being physically active, referencing what she's learned while studying to be a therapist. We really admire her strength in pursuing something she had little to no prior experience in and sticking to it. Even more, we loved hearing the ups and downs that came with the process and the gains and losses she experiences even now. Lastly, in this sliced segment Lor-shing and Gigi eat oranges and talk about their latest movie recommendation.
In this episode, we interview one of our godmothers, Lily Lee. She has decades of experience as a college professor, social justice advocate, and founder of organizations fighting human trafficking and domestic violence. We talk about her story and what inspired her to start organizations advocating for women and girls around the world. Sliced Segment: Lor-shing and Gigi eat persimmons while discussing K-culture. In our second episode of Season 2, we are honored to have our friend, Jess Liao, with us. Jess is someone we've had the pleasure of knowing for a number of years and is a constant inspiration to us in many ways. In fact, our conversation could have covered so many different topics. Yet, here we had the privilege to sit with Jess and reflect back on her journey in the last few years dealing with an unexpected and life-altering diagnosis. In much of our own lives, we have all perhaps experienced periods of grief or can relate to the uncontrollability of our lives. Maybe, we're in one right now. In these moments, there is also a grace that reveals to us what is most important or what we truly need. And even, a glimmer of hope that begins to arise. We're so thankful for Jess in taking us along and giving us a glimpse of what it was like facing these moments of fear, change, and painful growth. We celebrate your bravery and strength! Jess is a co-founder of a new passion project to celebrate AAPI women creators, follow them at @ourtwotales on Instagram. As musicians and singers ourselves, we'd be remiss to not ask you to follow Jess also on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4XceMNi1UAnWeeYgohKgBQ?si=yDuBMbl4Q0y_QYQ6oUtzdQ&dl_branch=1 She also has a pretty cool collaboration with Tim Be Told ;) : https://open.spotify.com/track/3qRIpgs6p9Q5uSSz2irTtR?si=a6a86d50d8094611
Welcome back! We're starting off Season 2 with a conversation with our long-time friend and brother, Theo Kwong. Although it's been a while since we all caught up, every conversation with Theo gets you laughing, crying, or thinking about life's deeper questions. In this conversation, we talk about what it was like growing up as a pastor's kid and how grief and loss inform his faith journey. It was a treasure for us to have the opportunity to step in his shoes and get a glimpse of what experiencing and knowing God for himself was like. We left incredibly encouraged and moved by the mysterious grace and gentleness of God from Theo's story.
