In a world obsessed with instant answers and quick fixes, Seven Miles invites us into the quiet, uncertain walk of two disciples — confused, grieving, and unaware that Jesus Himself was beside them. This sermon reminds us that faith isn't about having all the answers, but about recognizing the One who walks with us through the questions. Even when we don't understand the journey, Jesus is present — guiding, revealing, and drawing us back to peace. Come discover what it means to walk by trust, not clarity, and to know Him even in the unknown.

God comes alongside people. At the end of the gospel of Luke there's a story about two of Jesus' followers walking away from Jerusalem after his crucifixion. As they walk a stranger comes alongside them, asks them questions and listens to them, before they realise it's the resurrected Jesus! In this message Wes talks about how we can represent Jesus and get alongside others as we follow Christ's example bringing life and hope into the world.

Main Point: Four scenes of the disciples' walk to Emmaus with the resurrected Christ lead to irrevocable joy in Him.
Day 68 Today's Reading: Luke 24 It's resurrection morning for Jesus. All of the Gospels highlight Jesus' post-resurrection conversations with His disciples and followers, but only Luke highlights a conversation that happened seven miles outside of Jerusalem. To put it another way, a fire started seven miles outside of Jerusalem. No building burst into flames. No property was damaged. No one was trapped. No life was lost. But two hearts caught on fire in a conversation with the resurrected Jesus. As someone once said, “Get on fire for God and men will come watch you burn.” Fire needs no advertisement. When people hear the fire engines, people look for smoke. And seven miles outside of Jerusalem on a road heading toward Emmaus two hearts caught fire. Let's look at the story. Two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him. And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” . . . And they said to Him, “The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him. But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.” He said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. . . They urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, and He vanished from their sight. They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?” And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them, saying, “The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon.” (Luke 24:13-17, 19-21, 25-27, 29-34) I have been reading a sermon a day for almost thirty years. It's a practice I picked up when I started pastoring. One of my favorite preachers is the great Baptist, Vance Havner. In one of his sermons based on this story, Havner gives four characteristics that happen to someone who has a genuine experience with God. First, their experience is based on the Scriptures. As Luke 24:27 tells us, “He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.” Men who part company with the Old Testament also part company with Jesus. Moses wrote Genesis. Jesus promoted Genesis. Second, it stirs their hearts. Luke 24:32: They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?” A genuine experience with God has its foundation in the Bible, not in our feelings, although that does not mean our feelings aren't affected. We are not saved because we feel saved, but being saved makes us happy. As Havner said, “There was never a real revival that did not produce heartburn and hallelujahs." Third, Je

In her new book, “The Brilliant Abyss,” Helen Scales writes about the largely unseen realm of the deepest parts of the ocean. On this week's podcast, she talks about the life down there — and how long it took us to realize there was any at all.“It wasn't so long ago, maybe 200 years ago, that most people — scientists, the brightest minds we had — assumed that life only went down as far as sunlight reaches, so the first 600 feet or so,” Scales says. “But what's so fascinating is that life does go all the way to the very, very bottom; down to seven miles, which is the deepest point, just about. And there are ways in which life has found adaptations to all of these crazy, extreme conditions in the deep, and that's what we're really doing a lot of the time, as marine biologists working in the deepest, is finding that stuff and asking the question: ‘How are you here?'”Rebecca Donner visits the podcast to discuss her new book, “All the Frequent Troubles of Our Days,” which recounts the story of Mildred Harnack, Donner's great-great-aunt, an American woman executed in 1943 for being a member of the German resistance to the Nazis during World War II.“She most definitely saw herself as a resistance fighter, and she certainly did not see herself as a spy,” Donner says. “She engaged in acts of espionage in order to undermine the Nazi regime, but she never met with a control officer, she never accepted money. She worked in an unofficial capacity.”Also on this week's episode, Tina Jordan looks back at Book Review history as it celebrates its 125th anniversary; Elizabeth Harris has news from the publishing world; and Gal Beckerman and John Williams talk about what they're reading. Pamela Paul is the host. Here are the books discussed in this week's “What We're Reading”:“Four Thousand Weeks” by Oliver Burkeman“Ghettoside” by Jill Leovy“Last Best Hope” by George Packer

Well, if like us, your blood is 50% coffee, you'll be addicted to this episode... (See what we did there?) Caleb and GK sit down with all-round-legend and the second of the three Hearne Brothers, Andrew "AJ" Hearne. A life-long dream to fly planes temporarily took AJ from the Gold Coast to Adelaide. He was undergoing training and pursuing this dream when the offer for a casual job in a cafe and roastery changed the course of AJ's life. He's the first to admit that he wasn't always "into coffee", but with all he has learned over the last 8 years in the industry, and in his current role as Gold Coast & Northern Rivers Regional Manager for Seven Miles Coffee Roasters and ASCA Brewers Cup Judge, coffee has become his passion. You can hear it in his voice. AJ is clearly a wealth of knowledge on the subject and whether you're into cofffee or not, you're bound to learn something you didn't know. We even think you may enjoy your next coffee even more after listening. OG Recommendations: GK: Be resourceful with items in your pantry/fridge! Use that jar and don't let those veggies go to waste ! Welcome to Recap, a brief overview of recent coffee developments every two weeks from the Specialty Coffee Association.Rabobank Group, a Dutch lender known for financing agricultural traders, joined other commodity lenders in reducing its activity following a difficult year. Usually an area of specialization, commodity financing is perceived to be riskier than other types of lending. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, commodity lenders experienced a high volume of frauds and defaults as shipping delays and bankruptcies impacted contracted deliveries. Other commodity lenders, like ABN Amro NV and BNP Paribas, have closed their commodity lending operations all together. Many coffee producers and producer organisations rely on these lenders for the pre-harvest financing that makes it possible to pay workers for their labor and farmers for their coffee before the product is exported and contract payments kick in. Although it is shuttering offices in London, Shanghai, and Sydney, Rabobank will continue to offer trade and commodity finance operations from Utrecht, Singapore, Hong Kong, New York, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, and Nairobi. The Hivos 2020 Coffee Barometer, released at the end of last year, suggests there is little evidence that coffee companies' voluntary sustainability efforts have made an impact on the sector. Written by global non-governmental organizations, the Coffee Barometer has been released regularly since 2009. While the 2018 Coffee Barometer brought attention to the impact of global mergers and acquisitions on the coffee supply chain, the 2020 Coffee Barometer focuses on the impact of “voluntary sustainability standards.” Although more certified coffee is available, it's uptake is stagnating. As a result, these standards alone will not be enough to address the wide scope of sustainability issues facing the coffee industry. The report closes by calling for a renewed sense of shared financial sustainability across collaborative initiatives with clearly articulated commitments and measurable impacts. Sucafina, a Swiss green coffee trading company, acquired the UK's Complete Coffee Limited, or CCL, in early January. CCL is a known supplier of UK-based Coca-Cola-owned Costa Coffee. The acquisition is expected to expand Sucafina's trading capacity across both conventional and specialty green coffee. CCL's acquisition is one of many growth initiatives Sucafina has recently announced, including the creation of a new company in the Yunnan province of China, the Sucafina Specialty brand, and the opening of a new, Indonesian-based company, Sucafina Indonesia, as recently as Monday this week.Australian-based Seven Miles Coffee Roasters has launched a new telemetry system called “Perfect Pour” across its café network. An internet connected device, called “the Flow device,” collects data from the espresso machine, comparing each shot to the programmed recipe and scoring it accordingly. A web-based dashboard then displays the scores, allowing both the baristas and Seven Miles' trainers to identify areas for improvement and focused training. Created in partnership with Flow Technologies and Barista Technology Australia, who produce the Flow device, Seven Miles has a goal of installing the Perfect Pour in 200 cafés by the end of the year. If you want to dive deeper into anything you heard today, check out the links in the description of this episode. Recap will be back in two weeks' time. Thanks for listening. In this episode, Bryan, Dani, and Justin discover the joys of truly trying to make something from nothing by using their first "title" pitch. I mean, I suppose that's better than an acting class drama or a COVID-stress drama and it's DEFINITELY better than a superhero delivery driver. Actually, as I'm saying it out loud, that sounds pretty cool. But, alas, the trio use the title and friendships, tests, and terrifying experiments come to the forefront in this thriller-drama.Originally Recorded 11-01-2020

Fairy tales are not just familiar stories told to children but are also a means of conveying dark truths about morality and behaviour to adults. There are similarities between stories shared in different cultures . Composer Kerry Andrew has published her first novel Swansong and she performs many traditional songs. She talks to writer Katherine Langrish, author of Seven Miles of Steel Thistles and a “Troll Trilogy” about the cultural legacy of fairy tales and the lessons we can learn from them in a Proms Plus event recorded at Beit Hall, Imperial College London before an audience and chaired by Rana Mitter.
Och aye!! It’s a super-spooky super-Scottish episode today, though somehow we completely avoid any actual Scottish dialects! We talk morality, geography, and funny hats with Anne Whitaker, and the point value at the end of this episode is downright spooooooooky! Listen in and enjoy!
A Better Story: What happened after the resurrection and why does it matter to us today?
THE POWER OF REDEMPTION FREEDOM: Brokenness is no longer the author of my story. HOPE: The past is not dictating my future. TRUTH: It was finished on the cross. RESTORATION: My heart can be restored from the depths of my pain. THIS IS RESURRECTION 1 - TWO GUYS ON THE ROAD TO EMMAUS LUKE 24:13-35 NIV Now that same day TWO OF THEM were going to a village called Emmaus, about SEVEN MILES from Jerusalem. 14 They were TALKING WITH EACH OTHER ABOUT EVERYTHING that had happened (the crucifixion). 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, JESUS HIMSELF (after He was resurrected) came up and WALKED ALONG WITH THEM; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him. LUKE 24:13-35 NIV 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, "Were not OUR HEARTS BURNING WITHIN US while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" 33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together. 2 - DUSTIN KUECHLER – STORY 3 - PETER 1 Peter 1:3 NIV Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his GREAT MERCY he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead… JOHN 21:14-17 NIV This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead. 15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "FEED MY LAMBS." 16 Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "TAKE CARE OF MY SHEEP." 17 The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "FEED MY SHEEP”. LUKE 24:33-34, 36, 45-47 NIV 33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, "It is true! The LORD HAS RISEN and has APPEARED TO SIMON." ... 36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." ... 4 – BRUCE CUMMINS - STORY 5 - ??? Romans 10:9-11, 13 NKJV … that if you CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH THE LORD JESUS and BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART that God has RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD, you will be SAVED.

Seven Miles a Second is being re-released, and artists James Romberger and Marguerite Van Cook are in the studio talking about the comic book’s re-issue on The Mike & Judy Show. Judy McGuire is joined in the studio by a “substitute Mike” – Michael Gonzales from Complex.com! Listen in to hear why Seven Miles a Second is still relevant today, and why they decided to re-release it in the style of an European Album. Hear James and Marguerite talk about David Wojnarowicz and his vision, and the value of hand-lettering in comic books. Marguerite talks about her time with The Innocents and touring with The Clash! Hear how James went from the world of comic books to becoming a fine artist. This episode has been sponsored by Roberta’s. “I thought I was going to be a comic artist. I didn’t ever really set out to be a fine artist, but we ended up running galleries in the East Village, I kind of fell into that.” [14:40] “Losing David was a big loss because he was so honest. We need to come out and speak like that.” [26:00] — James Romberger on The Mike & Judy Show
