In this episode of FinTech Layer Cake, host Reggie Young speaks with Evan Minsberg, Partner at Morrison Foerster, about the nuanced world of money transmission licenses (MTLs). Evan explains what MTLs are, why fintechs need them, and the trade-offs between pursuing a license, partnering with a bank, or using alternative models. He also unpacks the hidden costs, both in dollars and time, behind getting licensed, and how fintechs can think strategically about when it makes sense to pursue one. From agent-of-payee exemptions to the risks of operating without proper licenses, Evan offers a practical primer for founders navigating regulatory quicksand. He also shares trends in state-level adoption of the Money Transmission Modernization Act (MTMA), rising anti-money laundering scrutiny, and myths about “FBO” and “BOBA” accounts. Whether you're building a payments product, exploring embedded finance, or just trying to future-proof your business, this conversation is packed with insights you won't want to miss.

Poslechněte si speciální epizodu Vlevo dole a vyberte v anketě zvířecího vítěze voleb!----Vlevo dole řeší politické kauzy, boje o vliv i šeptandu z kuloárů Sněmovny. In Part 3 of our Camp Hale series, host Christian Beckwith explores America's military mountaineering experiment during the pivotal winter of 1942–43. Following Second Lieutenant John McCown, the episode traces early training frustrations, the media frenzy that made the “mountain warriors” famous, and the disastrous Homestake Peak Maneuvers—an exercise so plagued by frostbite, blizzards, and failures it drew comparisons to Napoleon's retreat from Moscow. Interviews with Lance Blyth, David Little, and Sepp Scanlin provide behind-the-scenes insights into the Army's evolving mountain experiment and its cultural ripple effects that would later shape America's outdoor recreation boom. Highlights include: The recruitment push led by Minnie Dole, John Jay, and Deborah Bankart The birth of the 86th Mountain Infantry Regiment Special missions, including the Columbia Icefield Expedition and Studebaker's M29 Weasel Lessons from the Homestake Peak Maneuvers Resources & Bonus Content: christianbeckwith.com Sponsors: CiloGear: Premium alpine backpacks – cilogear.com (Code: rucksack). Adam kicks off the show with writer and director George Gallo to discuss his 2020 film The Comeback Trail, which is currently topping the charts on Paramount+. They also dive into Gallo's all-time classic Midnight Run, the importance of studying classic cinema for aspiring filmmakers, their shared admiration for Woody Allen, and a nostalgic look back at the claymation series Davey and Goliath.Next, comedian Gary Owen joins Adam in the studio to talk about his stand-up special No S, their recent show at the Ryman with Kid Rock, and some hilarious run-ins involving David Hasselhoff. They also touch on the strange coincidence of Gary and his opener having daughters with the same name, and the idea of maintaining “plausible deniability” by avoiding other comedians' material. Gary shares stories about joining the Navy, and how he managed to serve while simultaneously hosting a TV show.Later, Adam, Gary, and Jason “Mayhem” Miller tackle some of the day's top news stories, covering everything from Catholic priests and Alcatraz to Smokey Robinson. The conversation wraps up with talk about Boba and Poke, Richard Dreyfuss' grandfather, and the film The Rock.
