Micros & Macros of Life: My Burnout Story

Burnout is just an overachiever word for depression (usually induced by work). I have had symptoms, obvious ones, for months. People even told me what it might be, but depression wasn't in my dictionary, it wasn't in my universe. I ignored the symptoms until my mind clearly said “no, we are going to address these issues.” If this sounds familiar or you know someone who might be going through a similar situation, I recorded this for you. In the following sections I will share my journey, what I did to get back on track and most importantly my epiphany about what I call the Micros and Macros of life

09: Laurențiu-Victor Bălașa - CEO & Founder of Basmo.app on transmutation of sexual energy into creative force, goals without attachment, books that saved his life...

Laurențiu-Victor Bălașa is the founder & CEO of Basmo.app. I'm happy to call him a friend and in this unusual episode we did NOT discuss business. Don't expect any tips on ASO and how to hack the App Store algorithms. We do not talk about subscriber conversions and all the usual topics you normally hear on this podcast. Instead, we discuss the most important topics in life. Just a few of the topics we discussed were: What happened to Laurentiu after he achieved his biggest life goal. What books saved his life. How to turn your sexual energy into creative energy. Why masturbation (especially for men) drains you of your creative juices (pun intended). Why Ferrari is a horrible car. What's the real cause of burnout, depression and anxiety. What are the red flags of burnout and depression? How to set goals without being attached to the outcome and why is that even important...and so much more. This episode might offend some people, it might even make you angry and that's okay with me. We have decided to publish this episode anyways. I hope you enjoy.

Stéphane Maarek is one of the the top 10 highest-earning Udemy instructors in the world. (Udemy is an online course marketplace, where you can learn or teach pretty much any skill.) Stéphane has achieved incredible success on Udemy, teaching over 600.000 paying students and he is not even 30 years old yet. We recorded this episode over a couple of glasses of great wine in Lisbon, Portugal. Apart from being one of the smartest people I know, he is also a lot of fun to hang out with. He could be the poster boy for the work hard & play hard slogan. I've never seen someone focus so hard he won't leave his home for days to record a massive course and then be the life of a party the very next day. Nick is the Chief Technology Officer at YourSuper. The team at yoursuper.com creates superfood and plant protein mixes so you can improve your health and feel your best every day. This episode was so much fun to record because Nick is a fastinacing character and has tried pretty much all engineering roles from back-end, to front-end and even no code. Now as a CTO he shifted more towards management. However, we don't really discuss business and engineering. We talk about Nick's journey and how he keeps his mental health as strong as possible by using meditations, mantras, flotation tanks and even psychedelic experiences. Mik is the founder of Tattoodo, world's biggest tattoo community. I visited their Copenhagen office and had a great chat about the process of creating and building Tattoodo. I've know Mik for a few years but this was the first time we had the opportunity to diver deeper into the early stories of how they got off the ground. Mik is a great story teller so this episode was a lot of fun for me to record. Mik is very straight forward in his communication, no bs. In college his studies philosophy and we also discuss how that influenced him as a founder of a startup and how he uses philosophy in his every-day life.

In this podcast I will interview top performers from around the world and try to find out what are their beliefs, thoughts patterns and mental frameworks we can all learn from. In the first season, most of the guests will be from the business world, more specifically from the mobile app space. I myself am the Chief Marketing Officer at Reflectly which is the world's most popular journaling app. Before that I've basically tried building app companies my whole life. In my last company which was in language learning, we took the Silicon Valley route, moved to San Francisco, raised capital but that didn't work. Now Reflectly is on fire, we're at about 10mil users, acquiring 10 - 30k users a day and we started to acquire other companies, building a mental fitness empire. If you want to know, you can check out my YouTube channel Darius Mora where I share practical tutorials about app marketing And I have a couple of courses on Udemy which are best sellers and highest rated in the app marketing and general marketing categories. Here are a couple of highlights of what you can expect in the next couple of episodes.
