Bible reading Genesis, Chapter 37. Joseph's dreams of his brothers bowing down to him made them hate him, so that when the opportunity arrived, they sold him to traders who then sold him to an Egyptian official.
Bible reading. 1 Corinthians 12:12-20 The body is made up of many parts. All are necessary and all are important. The church also has members with a variety of gifts and abilities; all are necessary for the church to function the best it can.
Bible reading. Genesis 32: 22-32 Jacob wrestles with God. God changes Jacob's name to Israel.
Bible reading. Genesis chapter 16 God promised Abram that his offspring would be so many that they would be like the stars in number. His faith in this promise is considered since he and Sarai his wife were old and had no children.

The question of whether Jesus' life was a wasted life, since he only lived for 33 years, is considered. The value of this short life is also shown in the Communion Service.
Bible reading. John 19: 17-27 Jesus' mother and her relationship with Jesus are considered, so also is Jesus' final request to John to look after Mary. Christians belong to the household of God. Scripture has a number of references where we are called "brothers and sisters".
Bible reading. Luke 23: 32-43 When Jesus was crucified, two thieves were also crucified along side him. One thief disbelieved who Jesus was because he did not save him from his just punishment; the other realized Jesus to be the Messiah and if he would remember him when he, Jesus, returned to his kingdom. Jesus assured him that he would. We are urged to consider our view of, and attitude toward, Jesus.
Bible reading. Colossians 1: 3-20 This is the first in a series of messages based on passages of Scripture that will prepare us for the reflection and celebration of Easter.

Bible readings. Matthew 6:5-14, Mark 11:25, Luke 6:37. The following were considered: How is forgiveness defined? What motivates a person to want to forgive another? How can we commence the process of forgiveness? Personal peace can be experienced following genuine forgiveness.
Bible reading. Luke 10: 1-22 Jesus sent 70 disciples out to the villages to tell the people the good news that the kingdom of God was near. They were instructed on how to react if they were well received or if they were rejected. It is our duty to live and proclaim the Gospel message in our time but not to take it personally if we are rejected.
Bible reading. Psalm 23. A consideration of David's confidence in God. "I have all I need" and "I fear no evil".
Bible reading. Luke 10:25-37 A religious leader asked Jesus how he could obtain eternal life. Jesus asked him to say what his understanding of the law was. The leader did this and Jesus told him if he lived according to this he would gain eternal life. The leader then asked Jesus who was his neighbour. To explain this, Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan, then told the leader to act likewise.

Stephen has the courage to tell the religious leaders that Jesus is the promised Messiah and they have killed him just as their ancestors had persecuted the prophets. For his honesty and speaking the truth, Stephen was stoned to death.
