Preached on Sunday the 24th of May, 2026.Jeremiah 6:14-1614 They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace,' when there is no peace.15 Were they ashamed when they committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed; they did not know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time that I punish them, they shall be overthrown,”says the Lord.16 Thus says the Lord:“Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.'Intro Music by Julius H. from Pixabay Outro Music by PianoAmor from Pixabay

Walking The Ancient Paths: Confession by Gospel Centered Mission Focused
We're not just a church. We're a Family. Our Vision is clear, simple, and unique. Our vision is Jesus in you. Our vision is for the people of God to have a faith that holds them. The kind of faith that vanquishes doubt, verifies identity, and voraciously contends for inner peace. A faith that removes the past, clarifies the present, and breathes life into the future. Our vision is the Kingdom of God built within the people of this obscure, yet mighty generation. A kingdom so great that its purpose destroys the common lack of self worth. A kingdom that sharpens the eyes, tenses the muscles, and readies itself for the battle against darkness. A Kingdom that brings purpose and healing to those who have failed more than succeeded, who are sinners more than saints, and who have known more pain than pleasure. Our vision is to challenge the weak and unproductive church of our day. To step beyond those who are religiously immature and search out those who for their love for Christ cannot be offended. Our hope is to raise warriors instead of those who think God only exists to keep bad things from happening. To raise those who know that following Christ means suffering loss yet gaining all things. Our vision is clear, simple, and unique…. It is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

In today's episode, Phil Reinders invites us into a pastoral journey shaped by a deep conviction: Canada is his mission field. Drawing from decades of ministry across Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto, Phil reflects on what evangelism and discipleship look like in a culture that has rapidly shed its Christian memory. We explore why many people today are drawn not to novelty, but to the ancient paths of Christian formation, and how historic practices, when lived communally, can form resilient disciples in a fragmented age. At the heart of the conversation is Habitus Community, a shared rule of life community designed to strengthen local churches by helping ordinary Christians practice a coherent way of life with God.This conversation is an invitation to pastors and leaders who are longing for deeper formation, sustainable rhythms, and a renewed love for the local church. In this conversation, Jason and Phil explore:Why Phil understands his calling as being a missionary to Canada, and what that means in a post-Christian culture,The hunger for ancient Christian practices in a world that promises freedom but delivers fragmentation,How a shared rule of life can form ordinary disciples through daily, weekly, and communal rhythms,The origin and vision of Habitus, and why community is essential for spiritual practices to endure,Rediscovering love for the local church, not as an ideal, but as a gift God uses to form us.Phil speaks with clarity, humility, and a deep love for the Church. His reflections invite pastors to slow down and believe that faithfulness, lived together, still bears worthwhile fruit in our time.Show NotesHabitus CommunityPhil's Book: Seeking God's Face: Praying with the Bible through the YearPartnersWe couldn't do the work we do at The Pastorate without your generous support. As a new year dawns we find another opportunity to reflect on the daily paths we walk and to reconsider God's invitation to walk “The Ancient Paths”—with Him. His offer is not to add him to a loose list of resolutions, but to enter his fellowship, experience his presence, and enjoy his rest more deeply. Will you consider his offer?

Jeremiah 6:10–17 (Listen) 10 To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ears are uncircumcised, they cannot listen; behold, the word of the LORD is to them an object of scorn; they take no pleasure in it.11 Therefore I am full of the wrath of the LORD; I am weary of holding it in. “Pour it out upon the children in the street, and upon the gatherings of young men, also; both husband and wife shall be taken, the elderly and the very aged.12 Their houses shall be turned over to others, their fields and wives together, for I will stretch out my hand against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD.13 “For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for unjust gain; and from prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.14 They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace,' when there is no peace.15 Were they ashamed when they committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed; they did not know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time that I punish them, they shall be overthrown,” says the LORD. 16 Thus says the LORD: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.'17 I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Pay attention to the sound of the trumpet!' But they said, ‘We will not pay attention.' (ESV)
How are we to navigate this present moment? What are our fixed points? The ancient paths - Love God, Love others AND Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Jesus says all the Law and the Prophets are fulfilled in these.“Those who lead disorderly lives tell those who are normal that it is they who deviate from nature, and think they are following nature themselves; just as those who are on board a ship think that the people on shore are moving away. Language is the same everywhere: we need a fixed point to judge it. The harbor is the judge of those aboard the ship, but where are we going to find a harbor in morals?” - Blaise Pascal, Pensees 697
Many Evangelical churches suffer from a shallow understanding of church history and theology. However, many Christians today are rediscovering the wisdom of the Historic Creeds and Reformed Confessions and Catechisms. These historic documents, grounded in Scripture, bring clarity to Christian beliefs, foster unity across congregations, and offer depth to personal faith. In this talk, we cover their biblical foundations, their role through church history, and how they're still relevant—practically speaking—for pastors, leaders, and families today. No fluff, just real talk about tools that help the church stay rooted.Full notes & resources from this lecture: https://theotivity.com/post/evangelical-churches-creeds-confessions-catechisms/-----------------ℹ️ For more info on THEOTIVITY, please visit: https://www.theotivity.com/

Ministers Rest | Mar 24, 2025 In these times, the world is entering an era where human existence is increasingly intertwined with machines and artificial intelligence. However, true wisdom and understanding do not come from artificial sources but from the ancient paths—foundations established long ago by those who walked closely with God. It is the responsibility of those who carry this understanding to rise and bear witness to the truth in these last days. Spiritual maturity requires discernment. Not every light is true light, and not every teaching carries life. Many seek validation through material achievements, measuring spiritual success by external displays of grandeur. Yet, the true temple of God is not built with human hands—it is within those who have surrendered fully to Christ. The pursuit of external recognition often leads to striving, but those who find acceptance in Christ alone are free from the pressures of human expectations. The journey of faith is not about accumulating knowledge from every source but about allowing the Spirit to refine and filter what is true. Many have wandered, seeking deeper revelation, but true wisdom is found in aligning with the foundation that has already been laid—Christ Himself. This requires a willingness to let go of old mindsets, to remove the rubble of past teachings that hinder growth, and to build afresh on a foundation that cannot be shaken. Growth in the Spirit comes through humility, correction, and unity. Disagreements must be handled with wisdom, and rather than arguing over doctrine, believers should seek understanding through one-on-one conversations. Correction should be given in a way that edifies rather than divides. The goal is not to win debates but to grow together in truth and love. Ultimately, the path forward demands death to self—letting go of personal ambition and the desire for recognition. The only thing that matters is pleasing Christ. In surrendering fully to Him, believers will find themselves positioned to stand firm in the days ahead, walking in the wisdom and strength that only God can provide. The most dangerous financial trap isn't overspending. It's comfortable compromise. After years of telling ourselves "I'll give more when I get my next raise," we discovered a profound truth: Without a system, good intentions evaporate into lifestyle inflation. But through this simple rule, we found a way to increase both our giving AND our financial freedom—without feeling the sacrifice. In this episode, we share: The "50-50 Rule" that transformed our approach to raises and windfalls Why financial "peace" might actually be sabotaging your spiritual growth The fascinating story of 3rd century Christians who fled to the woods when they got wealthy (and what it teaches us about modern abundance) How we're implementing a radical month-long sabbatical for our entire team This isn't just another money management strategy. It's a practical framework for breaking free from the gravitational pull of cultural norms around wealth—while still enjoying the fruits of your labor. Whether you're living paycheck-to-paycheck or already practicing generosity, this simple rule could be the key to unlocking both greater impact and personal benefit.
