This week we will be studying Mark 2:23–3:6 under the theme “The Life-Giving Lord of the Sabbath.” In these verses, Jesus confronts not only questions about rest and obedience, but the deeper issue of who has authority over life itself. The Sabbath was given as a gift, yet it had become a burden. Jesus does not abolish God's command; he fulfills it by restoring life and revealing himself as the One in whom true rest is found. When the Lord of the Sabbath is present, rules give way to mercy, and rest is no longer something to achieve, but something to receive.Series Summary: Fast-paced, urgent, and relentlessly focused on Jesus, the Gospel of Mark shows us not just what Jesus said, but what he did. Written for a Roman world hungry for power, Mark introduces a surprising King - one who comes to serve, to suffer, and to give his life for many. Over the coming weeks, we'll walk this road with Jesus, from the wilderness to the cross, discovering how the Servant-King's actions reveal the true good news - and what it means to follow him as disciples who take up our own cross and trust him with our lives.Add St. Marcus as your church on the Church Center App!Fill out our online connection cardHow can we pray for you? We can't believe we're saying this… Episode 200 of the Drive Time Debrief is here! What started as a few honest conversations has grown into a community of physicians who are re-imagining what it means to practice medicine without losing themselves in the process. Whether this is your very first episode or you've been with us since the beginning — welcome. We're so glad you're here.
We live in a culture obsessed with efficiency—quick fixes, shortcuts, and life hacks that promise fast results. But what if the life God is forming in us requires something slower, deeper, and more transformative? In this message, we explore the difference between life hacks and life-giving habits, and why spiritual maturity is not accidental—it is formed through intentional rhythms, practices, and relationships over time. Using Colossians 1, Hebrews 5, and other key Scriptures, this teaching reframes Christian maturity not as doing more religious activity, but becoming fully trained in Christ for the sake of others. We examine common cultural lies about identity, truth, and independence, and contrast them with biblical habits that lead to real formation: knowing and relying on God's love, ongoing engagement with Scripture, sacrificial service, and authentic interdependence within the church. This message challenges cultural Christianity and invites us into a committed, formed, resilient faith that lasts. If you are entering a new year asking, “Who am I becoming?” or “What kind of faith do I want to build?”, this teaching offers a clear, biblical vision for spiritual growth rooted in Jesus—not hype, not shortcuts, but transformation.Resources in this SermonScripture PassagesColossians 1:21–29Hebrews 5:11–141 John 4:15–18Romans 12:1–2Philippians 3:15–181 Corinthians 3:1–3Psalm 16:11Galatians 5:22Philippians 4:4–6Books & AuthorsInvitation to a Journey — M. 22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;24 for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

The struggle is where the growth happens. This beautiful metaphor helps illustrate how vital the growing pains are for us to become who we desire to be. Pairing committed action with struggle develops us in intentional ways.

How can Christian men and women live faithfully in a world confused over sexuality and gender? The answer is simple — amidst the moral chaos, embrace God's beautiful design for manhood and womanhood. Hosts Scott Brown and Jason Dohm discuss this subject with pastor Michael Clary. Clary's new book, God's Good Design, is a compelling call for men and women to reject the world's dark vision of sexual madness and fall in love with the way God made them. Today's young people are crying out for truthful answers of who they are, and this book gives an oasis of hope, explaining how God wonderfully creates each person as “male” or “female” (Gen. 1:27).

In Matthew 9:23-26, Matthew gives the final aspect of Jesus' character that invites us to a deeper faith in Him. In our study, we will find two clear examples of Jesus' authority.
A person can either live by the wisdom of the world which leads to division or to the wisdom of God which leads to peace.
We focus on Romans 12:13 and how a generous, hospitable church turns resources into real ministry. From the tithe as a baseline to a culture of welcome, we trace how open hands fuel missions, benevolence, and lasting impact across generations.• giving as a command and a joy• tithe as baseline not ceiling• Jesus' teaching on treasure and idols• needs of the saints met locally and globally• cooperative program and missions sending• benevolence stories and quiet aid• legacy giving and planting for future generations• hospitality pursued, not passive• practical outcomes from small consistent gifts• invitation to commit, belong and be baptizedWe would love to see you any Sunday morning at First Baptist El Dorado
In the two miracles recorded in Matthew 9:18-26, Matthew reveals five aspects of Jesus' character that invite us to a deeper faith in Him.

In our newest season, Lifegiving Parenthood, Cameron and Anna will unpack the I AM statements of Jesus in John's Gospel. They seek to answer the question: can raising kids be life-giving? By grasping the truth of who Jesus is, we can walk in greater confidence, joy, and peace as we raise our children. They unpack biblical terms like believe, trust, and life in order to establish a better understanding of what it does–and does not–mean to flourish as a Christian parent. Throughout it all, we'll see how trusting Jesus as our great I AM provides the strength and hope we parents need. On Sunday Pastor Nate kicked off our new series, “This is the Way.” Early Christians were known as “people of the Way,” because they learned to walk with Jesus and live reflecting God's values. In the book of Acts we read about Spirit-led patterns and practices that were part of the fabric of the early church. In this 5-part series, we'll cover a pattern each week on Sunday and discuss it in Connect Groups throughout the week. The first pattern that Pastor Nate preached about is “Life-Giving Spiritual Community.” We may find community in many relationships, but spiritual community brings life to our soul. If we want the fruit of community, we need to have the roots of commitment to each other. What a powerful message! If you couldn't join on Sunday, check out the message here.
In our exploration of life-giving holiness, we're reminded that holiness isn't a burden, but a source of freedom and joy. The book of Hebrews provides a powerful pathway, urging us to 'fix our eyes on Jesus' as we run the race of faith. This imagery invites us to shed the weights that hold us back - be they sins, hurts, or unhealthy habits. We're challenged to view God's discipline not as punishment, but as loving preparation, much like a coach who sees potential in their athletes. This perspective shift can transform how we approach life's trials, encouraging us to ask, 'Lord, what are you building in me through this?' As we pursue holiness, we're called to strengthen others, recognizing that our individual journeys impact our community. The message culminates in the beautiful reminder that true holiness is received by grace, not achieved by effort.

Life-taking systems compared to life-giving systems are the essential polarity of human civilization's spiritual, economic, and ecological struggle. One paradigm consumes, extracts, commodifies, and alienates; the other nurtures, regenerates, harmonizes, and connects. These are the forces that either nourish or vampirize the living world.A taking system is built on extraction. It is the foundation of empire which sees Earth not as a living web of relationships, but as a warehouse of resources to be plundered. It views human beings as units of labor, as consumers, as demographic segments to be manipulated. These systems — settler colonialism, unbalanced industrial capitalism, and technocratic surveillance states, are obsessed with control. They create scarcity in the midst of abundance to maintain leverage. They produce alienation by severing people from land, from each other, and from their own inner depths. "Saint Helen, the mother of Saint Constantine the Great, when she was already advanced in years, undertook, in her great piety, the hardships of a journey to Jerusalem in search of the Cross, about the year 325. A temple to Aphrodite had been raised up by the Emperor Hadrian upon Golgotha, to defile and cover with oblivion the place where the saving Passion had been suffered. The venerable Helen had the statue of Aphrodite destroyed, and the earth removed, revealing the Tomb of our Lord, and three crosses. Of these, it was believed that one must be that of our Lord, the other two of the thieves crucified with Him; but Saint Helen was at a loss which one might be the Wood of our salvation. At the inspiration of Saint Macarius, Archbishop of Jerusalem, a lady of Jerusalem, who was already at the point of death from a certain disease, was brought to touch the crosses, and as soon as she came near to the Cross of our Lord, she was made perfectly whole. Consequently, the precious Cross was lifed on high by Archbishop Macarius of Jerusalem; as he stood on the ambo, and when the people beheld it, they cried out, "Lord, have mercy." It should be noted that after its discovery, a portion of the venerable Cross was taken to Constantinople as a blessing. The rest was left in Jerusalem in the magnificent church built by Saint Helen, until the year 614. At that time, the Persians plundered Palestine and took the Cross to their own country (See Jan. 22, Saint Anastasius the Persian). Later, in the year 628, Emperor Heraclius set out on a military campaign, retrieved the Cross, and after bringing it to Constantinople, himself escorted it back to Jerusalem, where he restored it to its place." When faith feels impossible, what makes the difference? John Piper opens John 6:60–71 to show how the Spirit gives life through the word.
Peace is the fruit of the spirit. It has changed me again to study and ponder the real depths of Shalom—peace in Hebrew. God wants us to enjoy the fullness of life, quietness, a rest, a sense of flourishing every day because of His reality.
