In this episode of the SMSF Show, host Maja Garaca Djurdjevic is joined by shadow treasurer Angus Taylor to discuss the current state of the financial advice sector, the economy, the housing affordability crisis and more. Taylor, a key figure in the opposition, shared his views on a range of issues from the government's handling of the Quality of Advice Review (QAR) to the challenges facing the Australian economy, including productivity, while also emphasising the principle that superannuation is Australians' money, not the government's. The shadow treasurer shares his belief that the answer to most problems is less government intervention and not more. “I'm a big believer in getting government out of the way as much as you can,” Taylor says. Touching on Labor's perceived regulatory overreach, specifically in financial services, Taylor says: “The commitment on our side … is to recognise that there has been regulatory overreach, that we have got a whole group of Australians now that are under-advised, underinsured and underbanked, and that we've got to have more accessible financial services and advice if Australians are to have the prosperity they deserve.” Tune in to hear him speak about: The advice profession and the Coalition's intentions Broader economic challenges The Help to Buy scheme, and more

Join us on a journey to the heart of Ireland as we welcome the extraordinary David Keohan, better known as Indiana Stones, to share his transformation from a life of revelry to a champion in kettlebell sport and a pivotal figure in resurrecting the ancient tradition of stone lifting in Ireland. Listen in as David recounts the rigorous training, dedication, and profound personal growth he encountered on his path to success. His tale isn't just about physical strength; it's a rediscovery of a rich cultural heritage that had been lying dormant for centuries, awaiting revival by those who honour the legacy of the land. Our conversation then takes us across the sea to Scotland, where we immerse ourselves in the history of the clach cuid fir, or manhood stones. Hear about the emotional weight of lifting the Fianna Stone, and the broader context of standing stones and megalithic structures that dot the British Isles. These are not just stones; they are stories etched in granite, marking rites of passage and connecting us to a time when physical prowess intertwined with spiritual significance. Finally, as we wrap up we explore the captivating search for Ireland's lifting stones, including the Limo Flautist stone, a narrative that beautifully weaves together themes of strength, memory, and the cycle of life. Celebrate with us the moment when David's quest to lift a storied stone reaches a triumphant crescendo, uniting the threads of folklore and reality in a community's embrace. David's insights leave us reflecting on the undercurrents of life, the tales that live beneath the surface, urging us to keep the spirit of these stories alive for generations to come. Don't forget to engage with our community on social media and become a part of preserving these legacies.David's links;https://www.instagram.com/_indiana_stones_/?hl=enhttps://www.patreon.com/Irishstoneliftingandresearchwww.undercurrentstories.com
If you decided to escape the corporate world, would you buy up a plot of land in an isolated part of Japan? It's not my first thought, but this is what Walk Japan CEO Paul Christie did at the age of forty, and with many good consequences. One of these is that Walk Japan has a strong social, "giving back" element, between the Community Project in Kyushu - which springs from Paul's initial plot of land - and its emphasis on taking travellers to rural areas of Japan which can really benefit from the tourism dollars (quite apart from being some of the most beautiful parts of the country, with the most welcoming inhabitants!). This episode is a wide-ranging chat with Paul about his career, how he came to be in Japan and what Walk Japan is doing to give back to many local communities, and particularly in the Kunisaki Peninsula in Kyushu, southern Japan. Ep 26---We hope you're doing well and enjoying the latest episodes of the Voices of Boyle! In our latest episode, we had the pleasure of hosting a special guest, Ciaran Sheerin, who shed light on the exciting developments taking place in Boyle town center. Ciaran is the current chairman of the Boyle Town Team. Ciaran introduced us to the dedicated town team responsible for implementing the Boyle 2040 vision. This team consists of local individuals representing different areas in the town, working closely with the local government to bring about positive changes. Their focus? Revitalising the economic heartland and promoting town center living.During our conversation with Ciaran, we learned that the Boyle 2040 vision is a detailed plan divided into three structures: the overarching 2040 vision, a 3-5 year plan called LECP (Local Economic and Community Plan), and a yearly plan referred to as the plan of works. This breakdown allows the team to tackle the implementation in practical, day-to-day efforts. What sets Boyle apart is the availability of a guiding document that many other towns don't possess. The town team stresses the importance of working collectively towards achieving the vision outlined in this document. (This document is available to view in the resource section of this post). And to spread the word effectively, they have created a brochure that not only promotes the 2040 vision but also provides information about available grants for renovations. This brochure will be distributed widely, ensuring that both residents and visitors are aware of the exciting changes coming to Boyle./span>As you can see, there are exciting developments happening in Boyle, and we're grateful to Ciaran Sheerin for sharing his insights and updates with us. Make sure to listen to the episode to get all the details and hear directly from the town team chairman about their vision and plans for the future.Stay tuned for more thought-provoking conversations on Voices of Boyle, where we continue to explore the stories and initiatives that shape our town.Check out the accompanying blog post by visiting: (https://www.voicesofboyle.com/ciaransheerin/)Join us on:( Facebook ) ( Instagram ) You can support the Voices of Boyle Podcast by clicking here. For thousands of years possum skins were used to make cloaks by First Nations people in the south-east of Australia. Often given to them at birth, a person's possum skin cloak told their life story, growing with them and collecting more elaborate designs as the owner moved through life. Sadly, after European colonisation, the practice was lost, lying dormant, with only a handful of cloaks remaining in museum collections. In recent years, the cultural practice of the possum skin cloak has been re-awoken and revived by communities, becoming a significant and profound way of connecting and strengthening culture. Tune in to a material lab and story sharing session about possum skin cloaks led by Hannah Presley, Senior Curator, Museums and Collections at University of Melbourne. Hannah was joined by Dr Vicki Couzens, Gunditjmara woman and Senior Knowledge Custodian for Possum Skin Cloak Story, Tarryn Love, Gunditjamara Keerray Woorroong artist, and Dr Sophie Lewincamp, Nyingarn Project Manager. This workshop was presented as part of the program for UNTOLD at MPavilion presented by Agency Projects.

Episode 40. AJ Climate Champions with Hattie Hartman. In this episode, we explore the global phenomenon of shrinking villages in the countryside, hearing about a remarkable series of interventions in southeastern China by DnA_Design, a small Beijing practice. Xu advocates a role change for architects in both rural and urban contexts. Architects should no longer accept a commission as given, but take the initiative and evaluate a project's regional context to make a proposal that is unique and rooted in its place. In less than a decade, Xu and her team have built more than 20 projects that vary widely in programme and materiality: a tofu factory, a museum, performance spaces and a sugar factory. These projects have attracted new residents back to formerly dilapidated villages by creating jobs and a sense of purpose in these forgotten places. CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY Win a copy of Greta Thunberg's The Climate Book (Penguin 2022). We have two copies to give away. New video footage of the interior of the vandalised St James Theatre has been released by Auckland Central MP Chlöe Swarbrick, showing fungi growing on damp floors, damaged electrical fittings and roof, as well as an exposure to the weather and rain, and foundation-eroding dampness. Swarbrick has written an open letter calling for the government to match the Auckland Council's $15 million commitment to restoring the building. She says this decision can't be kicked down the road any more and that the revival of the theatre will secure Queen Streets' status as a buzzing destination that will provide space and a place for Auckland's creative community. Built in 1928, St James Theatre once hosted many shows and concerts. St James Theatre is also regarded as a Category 1 Heritage building, meaning it is a historic places are of special or outstanding historical or cultural significance or value. Joe spoke to the owner of St James Theatre, Steve Bielby as well as Green Party MP for Auckland Central Chlöe Swarbrick, about why the revitalisation of St James Theatre is so significant to Auckland.
