Today’s episode is a joint recording with both Brett and Yiskah, and is centered on the theme of Freedom. Since we feel that this is such a complex and important concept (and also very timely in light of our current age of digital censorship and pandemic fear-mongering) we have decided to run a series, with this episode being the very first installment. Our plan is to follow up with additional recordings with the hope of examining this issue at greater depth, with the ultimate goal of raising some health awareness about our personal and collective responsibility as agents of freedom.*Just as a forewarning, this recording was made while Yiskah our son Noah was on Mommy's lap. Consequently, you will hear some background noise due to Noah periodically kicking at the mic. Sorry about that. :)Thanks for listening! In this Episode: Genesis 3: the reasoning of the serpent and its ramification for fear. The concept of freedom as a free-flowing spirit of inner being, or consciousness. The question of literal Messianism versus a collective accountability under God.Themes of “deliverance,” and the classical example of Moses.Deliverance and its implications for spiritual maturity.True freedom begins by liberating one’s self from mental schemas and threatening beliefs.Applying principles of liberty in the face of current lockdowns and social uncertainty.
In today’s episode, Yiskah and her husband Brett sit down together to elaborate on the whole concept of “shema” and how it relates to each of our lives in a very intimate sense. Yiskah also shares her announcement of both hers and Brett’s decision to merge their content together on the platform, and that the podcast name will henceforth be called the “Shema Connection Podcast.” Moving forward, some episodes will be joint conversations between the couple, while other episodes will be hosted either by Yiskah or Brett individually as they share their perspectives, reflections and devotions. With that in mind, we hope you enjoy today’s episode as you join Yiskah and Brett in their first online dialogue together. In this Episode: Daniel 2 and the fundamental lesson of listening versus assuming. The essential meaning of “shema” and its significance in our modern time. The problem of distracting and excessive noise in our life, and its many sources. The challenges of living in the digital age, and how to overcome distractions while trying to genuinely hear the voice of God.The nature of fear and addiction, and why we are all susceptible. The power of cleansing meditation, and why it’s okay to be messy about it.David’s insistence on seeking the voice of God.The beautiful gift of silence, and why it’s so important to make space for it.
I hope that you will find this podcast episode to be of service to you in these challenging times. In this episode I share from the Biblical Book of Proverbs, and consider what it really means to be wise in a Biblical sense. We are so blessed when we develop genuine wisdom, as it helps us to align with the true fullness found in the universe, and to deeply connect with the Creator. In this Episode: How true wisdom helps us to be optimistic about the future. The way that authentic wisdom helps us to be open to the Spirit. In what manner true wisdom is different than just head-knowledge.True wisdom is associated with humbleness and inspires us to "increase in learning."How genuine wisdom is associated with that which is "real" and leads to a connected-life.Biblical Passages Referenced in this Episode:Proverbs 1:1-7"The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:2 To know wisdom and instruction,To perceive the words of understanding,3 To receive the instruction of wisdom,Justice, judgment, and equity;4 To give prudence to the simple,To the young man knowledge and discretion—5 A wise man will hear and increase learning,And a man of understanding will [b]attain wise counsel,6 To understand a proverb and an enigma,The words of the wise and their riddles.7 The fear of YHWH is the beginning of knowledge,But fools despise wisdom and instruction."Proverbs 9:9Proverbs 14:6- Yiskah Rose
In this new podcast episode I share regarding the relevant, encouraging and inspiring message that shines forth out of the Biblical Book of Daniel, chapter 2. In this chapter we see prophecies concerning the unfolding of human history down through time, and we discover the amazing relevance of this prophecy to what we are experiencing in these challenging times. I believe that the insights that are found in this chapter are of great importance, and I hope that you will both take the time to listen to the entirety of this podcast episode and share it with whomever you think will also be interested. In this Episode: What does Daniel 2 have to do with what we are experiencing in our world today? In this episode Brett Jordan discusses some of the basic features of fear, particularly as it pertains to the unique and unusual COVID-19 culture in which we are living. Brett also explores the spiritual positives of struggle and uncertainty, and gives a heartfelt prescription for human growth and maturity while living in the midst of unpredictable times. It’s important to point out that, while we’re certainly living in very unpredictable times right now, the nature of our society’s upturning is really not as “unprecedented” as we might be hearing in the media. As a race of beings made in the image of the Creator, we have faced many upheavals in terms of the social order and we have also dealt with the looming threat of disease, disaster and imminent warfare countless times before. The point is that members of our species have dealt with injury on a large scale before – sometimes to a shocking and crippling degree – and it’s important to put that into perspective when considering our current navigating of the coronavirus climate. The point is that there is something for us to grow from in the face of these types of things, and we can choose to either be prisoners of the condition – or else recognize the liberty that is available directly within.Regardless of how our governments choose to respond in the face of “expert” recommendations about COVID-19, the more significant response lies within our own spirits. In other words, how we choose to act out and conduct our own moral positioning is what will yield true healing and recovery in the world. In this sense, our future is really not in the hands of those who appear to be in authority. Rather, our future lies in the vast potential of our relationship with the Divine. In this Episode: Why we generally struggle with the “unknown.”Patterns are very important to us (while ruptures in those patterns can deeply affect us).Why the majority of people on the planet actually do have some form of faith. The intrinsic benefits of an existential crisis. How existential stress can foster maturity in our perceptions and our views. How faith itself can be made more robust in the face of great difficulty. The unexpected power of vulnerability.Uncertainty as a positive stimulant for personal expansion. Why faith is the product of our highest perception of morality. The choice between atrophy and true muscle growth when faced with distress. The human lifespan as a perfect university. An ancient lesson from a single mother with no money.Acknowledging fear, and doing the right thing anyway.
In our world today, there are so many forms of personal fear that people are now having to come face-to-face with. With that in mind, I wanted to bless you with this particular podcast entitled "Rise Above Fear." I hope that you find it both practical and inspirational through the reminder that we are all so very blessed that our Creator is completely trustworthy, no matter what. We can always put our complete reliance upon Him.
In part 2 of this short podcast series, "In God's House" we'll be looking more closely at some practical ways that you can bring healing meditation and meditative prayer into your own life. The beauty of these meditative practices is that they will help you to clear away the blockages that stand in the way of your intimate connection with the Creator of the universe, and your ability to hear His still, small Voice. May this podcast episode be of service to you, so that you will be blessed to step into an even deeper connection to Divinity and His direction and guidance in your life. In this Episode: How to put into practice meditative prayer and clearing-meditation for personal healing. What is the "secret place" that David is speaking about in Psalm 27?What does it take to clear away limiting beliefs, toxic memories, past trauma and preconceived ideas? What the Biblical tabernacle is representative of in Biblical symbolism.
In this week's podcast episode, we will be considering the fascinating question of: what was David talking about in the Psalms, when he spoke of dwelling in the tabernacle, sanctuary or house of Yah? While we may not have a literal tabernacle or temple in Israel today for worship, we can still meaningfully manifest that which the tabernacle was always pointing us to, in its representative symbology. We are so blessed to discover the stunning message that our Divine Creator was communicating to us, when He gave the specific details concerning the tabernacle design. In this Episode: What David meant when he spoke about dwelling in the House of Yah.Practical ways that we can experience dwelling in the House of the Creator, in our own lives.David was in tune with the true Spiritual meaning of the details given in Torah, and many of these insights David shared through the Psalms. The difference between mechanical religious observances and truly dwelling in God's house. How we can practice awareness of the Creator's Presence in our own lives. How to silence the noisy distractions - inside and out - in order to gain awareness of the Divine Presence.Techniques for belief and emotion clearing meditation to assist in our Spiritual healing process.Biblical Passages Referenced in this Episode:Psalm 27:4-6:"One thing I have desired of YHWH,That will I seek:That I may dwell in the house of YHWHAll the days of my life,To behold the beauty of YHWH,And to inquire in His temple. For in the time of troubleHe shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacleHe shall hide me;He shall set me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to YHWH."
In this podcast episode, we'll be looking at the difference between ineffective, programmed prayer and truly powerful prayer. In particular, we'll be considering the role we personally play in how intimately the Creator can work with us, answer our prayers and direct our lives, as we seek to walk with Him. Prayer is a glorious gift from Divinity, and one that we are greatly blessed to meaningfully enact and participate in - both individually and ultimately as the collective of His people. In this Episode: What is our role in praying powerful prayer, vs ineffective prayer? What makes prayer effective and powerful? The two parts that are a part of authentically praying in our lives. What do we discover in Psalm 5 that can shift our perspective regarding what prayer actually is intended to look like in our lives? What does being a watchman have to do with prayer, according to the appearance of the Hebrew word "tsaphah" in the context of praying? How we need to be engaged in personal work, in order to clear away the toxic thinking that blocks our ability to hear Yah's answer to our prayer.Biblical Passages Referenced in this Episode:Genesis 1:26 - "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness...'"Psalm 5:1-3 - "Give ear to my words, O YHWH, consider my meditation. Give heed to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I will pray. My voice You shall hear in the morning, O YHWH; in the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up." Psalm 51:10 - "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me."
So what is holiness, really? That's the question that we're going to take a look at in this particular podcast episode. Like many other concepts in Scripture, we can take for granted that we already "know what it is." That is, until we decide to look again, outside of the religious frame-of-reference we were taught growing up. Holiness is an amazing Biblical concept that is far from a "holier-than-thou" attitude, and it also has little to do with a resistance to interact with others who see things differently than ourselves (not referring to those cases when blatantly evil behaviour is being exhibited). So, please join me as we consider this glorious topic afresh. In this Episode: What holiness is "not" and misconceptions around the Biblical meaning of holiness. How the beginning of Genesis gives us the key to understanding the true meaning of holiness. What it means to be God's "Holy People," in intimate connection with Him.What is the "Spirit" that is prophesied to be poured out upon His people? What are we being asked to return to, from a Biblical perspective? What it means to enact Torah along *with* the Spirit? How "holiness" relates to our collective calling and necessary transformation.Biblical Passages Referenced in this Episode:Exodus 20:1-2 - The first of the "ten words" (aka the "ten commandments"). "I am YHVH your God... You shall have no other gods in my face."Genesis 1:26-28 - Made in God's image and likeness, and given dominion.Genesis 2:18-20 - None of the animals comparable to Adam.Exodus 3:5 - The first time the Hebrew word for "holy" - "kodesh" appears in the Hebrew Bible.Isaiah 51:15-16 - "...I have put My words in your mouth..."
"Israel as Witness" is the final episode in the series "Lost Ten Tribes Arising," where we will be taking a look at the fascinating concept of the Spiritual essence of what "Israel" points to in the Hebrew Bible, in a symbolic sense. This in no way takes away from the prophetical promises that the physical people of the Ten Tribes are prophesied to be regathered; rather, this helps us to understand the purpose of the Creator with the Israel nation collective and what it truly means for Israel to be His witnesses in the earth. In this Episode: In what way Israel is a witness to higher truths associated with the original intention of the Creator with humanity. While Israel is clearly a literal, physical, blood-lineage people, how is Israel also a Biblical symbol of ultimate Spiritual truths? How does the prophecies concerning the "pouring out of the Spirit" apply to us today? What do we learn from the first time we see the name of "Israel" appearing in the Biblical record? What does the name "Israel" mean and signify? What does it practically mean to have the Creator as King over Israel first, and then all the earth (the promised future)? The importance of getting the details straight / right / accurate before we can begin to get into the deeper meaning and teaching given by the Creator in this Divine communication, and before we interpret prophetical and allegorical symbols that are an intrinsic part of the Hebrew Bible. The care, attention and discipline required to stay true to the Hebrew Bible message.
In this episode, "Lost Ten Tribes Arising Series - Part 4," we will be considering the fascinating subject of how the lost ten tribes are prophesied to come back from complete oblivion. Though once completely lost in the awareness of the global human collective, and even though the people of the lost tribes themselves became completely disconnected from their own identity as part of Israel, the Creator of the universe always remembered them and has given them hope of glorious "return."In this Episode: How the "House of Israel" / the lost 10 tribes / Joseph / Ephraim are said to be "no more."How the above collective (lost 10 tribes) were always remembered by the Creator, even though they have disappeared according to the awareness of humanity. The amazing parallel symbolism with the life of Joseph the man, and the lost 10 tribes who are called "Joseph" in prophecy. The miraculous re-emergence of the lost 10 tribes according to prophecy. They are Biblically prophesied to come back, from oblivion, to the Creator and His ways. The calling upon us, by the Creator, that we would step-up and be the leaders He intends us to be, according to what the Scriptures have always taught regarding His purpose with the nation of Israel.Biblical Passages Referenced in this Episode:Jeremiah 31:15-20 - Speaks of "Rachel" mourning her children as being "no more" & God's working with "Ephraim" (Rachel's progeny).Genesis 42:13 & 44:20 - Joseph's brothers speak of him as being "no more" and "dead."Hosea 8:8 - "Israel is swallowed up. Now they are among the Gentiles..."Verses where Joseph is mentioned in the psalm and prophecy to refer to the lost 10 tribes. (Note that the Psalms usage is more poetic / flexible in form.) Psalm 78:67; 80:1; Ezekiel 37:19; 47:13; Amos 5:15; 6:6; Obadiah 1:18; Zechariah 10:6.Jeremiah 31:9 - "Ephraim is my firstborn."Ezekiel 11:14-20 - Even though the whole house of Israel (ie. the lost ten tribes) have been disregarded as being a part of the people of promise, Yah has been a sanctuary to them wherever they go, and will gather them back to Himself, and to the land. Ezekiel 37 All - A nation (whole house of Israel) rises up at the last days. The lost 10 tribes are back from oblivion, though they have said "we are cut off." The stick of Judah and the stick of Joseph are joined into one.
This is Part 3 of the podcast series "Lost Ten Tribes Arising." In this episode we will be focusing our attention on the multiplicity of passages that clearly indicate that the "House of Israel" and Judah have been separate entities down through history (up until our day), and that they are both prophesied to be regathered, and brought into one collective, in a future sense. This will all be done by the glorious Hand and Guidance of the Creator. In this Episode: The primary Biblical prophetical books that speak about the separateness of the two parts that make up the whole nation of Israel. What do the prophets teach us about Judah and the House of Israel historically, and what do they prophecy for the future? What are also some practical lessons that come out of select passages associated with these two houses? How this topic is an uncomfortable subject for many religious people, due to its implications, and the fact it doesn't align with people's preconceived religious teachings.Biblical Passages Referenced in this Episode:Ezekiel 37: Dry bones arise, and the two sticks of Judah and Joseph (House of Israel) are brought together into one stick.Passages that indicate a historical and continued separation of the House of Israel and Judah: Isaiah 5:7; 11:12; 48:1; Jeremiah 2:4; 3:6-end; 5:11; 11:10; 11:17; 13:11; 30:3; 31:31; 32:30-32; 33:7, 14; 36:2; 50:20, 33; Ezekiel 9:9; 37:15-23; 51:5; Hosea 1:4-7,11; 5:5, 10-14; 6:4; 8:14.Passages that indicate that the 10 tribes are to return in prophetical fulfillment: Isaiah 11:12-13; 66:20; Jeremiah 12:14-16; 13:5-8; 30:3; 31:7-34; 33:7; Ezekiel 11:14-20; Ezekial 37 - all; Hosea 1:10-11.
This podcast episode continues the series: Lost Ten Tribes Arising. We will look at many of the Scriptural elements that speak to us of both the "House of Israel" and "Judah," in a separated sense, and also in the sense of the future promise that they will one day become "one" again by the glorious Hand and Guidance of their Creator. In this Episode:The "House of Israel" (10 tribes from northern kingdom) and Judah (2 tribes from southern kingdom) are spoken of separately numerous times in the Hebrew Bible, as we find in the book of Hosea. Submitting ourselves to the "how" of the Creator, rather than clinging to our own perceptions about how we think that He is going to fulfill His prophetical promises. Judah and the "House of Israel" ("lost 10 tribes") shall become one according to prophecy. There are many of us who are directly witnessing the beginning of the fulfillment of prophecies regarding the "House of Israel" (lost 10 tribes) coming back from oblivion, to be joined with their Creator, and with Judah. Why we find in Hosea 1 that Yah determines to have mercy on Judah, even though he removed his mercy from the House of Israel. What are we to learn and understand from the narrative of Judah "the person" and Jacob's blessing given to Judah at the end of Jacob's life? The significance of the "scepter" that would not depart from Judah. What "Shiloh" means, in a Hebrew language sense.
This podcast episode is an introduction to the exciting series: "Lost Ten Tribes Arising." We'll get a good start into the study by looking at a summary of the historical, Biblical context for the Lost Ten Tribes, and we'll also begin to look at the amazing prophecy given in Ezekiel chapter 37. In this Episode:The Biblical relevance of the title of this podcast series: "Lost Ten Tribes Arising."An introduction and summary regarding:The subject of the ten lost tribesHow the Kingdom of Israel split into two - the Southern Kingdom of Judah (2 tribes - Judah and Benjamin) & the Northern Kingdom of Israel (other ten tribes). How the 2 kingdoms went into captivity, and how the people of Judah returned to the land, whereas the people of northern Israel almost entirely remained scattered. Sharing from Ezekiel 37: the dry bones prophecy, and the prophetical fulfillment of the two sticks becoming one.
This podcast episode takes inspiration from Psalm 23, and considers what it means to truly have the Creator as our "Shepherd," listening to His Voice and following His direction for us. This is a Hebraic, reflective recording, intended to motivate the listener to connect deeper to the "I Am that I Am" Presence of the Creator in each moment of life. In this Episode:The distracting nature and complexity of our technological, noisy world today.Learning to quiet the voice of the world, in order to hear God's Voice. What it means for David to speak of "fearing no evil" while walking "through the valley of the shadow of death." Learning to make deliberate decisions around technology in our lives.Prophets speak of the pouring out of the Spirit, and how this is relevant to us in our relationship with Divinity. What does the Hebrew Bible mean when it speaks about the "Spirit?" ie. What is the Spirit?Where are we being regathered to, according to the purpose of the Creator?Personally connecting with the meaning of The Name of the Creator: "I Am that I Am," by connecting with His dynamic Presence and Leadership in this present moment of our life.
In this podcast episode, we'll be looking at what it means to tap into our individual and collective calling, from a Hebraic perspective. In simple terms it means that we are connecting with the Creator and allowing Him to guide our lives. This particular podcast is primarily reflective with some practical application, rather than a detailed study, and is intended to help you to step further into meaning and purpose in your life-journey.
In this podcast episode, we'll be looking at the exciting topic of how the Hebrew Bible, in its true essence, is the Inspired Word for an inspired people. What this means for us as individuals is that it is imperative for each of us to endeavour to become truly inspired people, connected with the deep wisdom and insight available to us in the Torah and the entirety of the Hebrew Scriptural writings."I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live...says YHWH." (Ezekiel 37:14)In this Episode:Why we need to come to the Hebrew Bible with the appreciation that there is an infinite quality to it.Why is it important that we have an open heart, open mind and open spirit? What needs to be our approach when we desire to understand the Biblical message? How to avoid coming away from the Bible with strange ideologies (recognizing that the Bible does record elements of humanities messy history).Realizing that the real Creator is much bigger than limited conceptions people often hold in their head. The valuable lessons from Moses' mother Yochebed, and her amazing faith that God would do the 'impossible.'That our trust and intimate connection with the Creator positions us to be safe under His protective Hand. What it means to "seek" the Creator, from a Biblical and infinite perspective.
What does it mean to become a person with dynamic openness, and authenticity in our Spiritual perspectives? The Hebrew Bible speaks to us of the idea of being "stiff-necked," and how that particular state makes it impossible for a person, or a collective, to be in a relationship with the Creator. In this particular podcast episode, Yiskah Rose will be considering both what it means to be part of a stiff-necked collective, and also what it means to become transformed into being a person of dynamic openness instead.
What happens when people believe in their own conceptions of God that they hold onto in their head, rather than connecting with the true, infinite Creator of the universe? In this podcast session, Yiskah Rose shares around the meaning of the very first of the 'Ten Commandments" as found in the ancient Hebrew Torah. She brings the relevance of this topic to our modern world, and the common tendencies of humanity throughout history. A valuable question for Bible believers to consider is this: Will the Bible (and Torah) make us close to God? In this podcast episode Yiskah challenges listeners to consider that connection to God is a personal choice, and that it does not automatically happen just by our reading, or carrying out certain Biblical and religious rituals in our lives.
