The truth is in the field — and it's been altered. Every year, the Aviv barley inspection claims to guide Yah's calendar. But what if the barley being inspected in Israel today… is genetically modified? Selectively bred for speed? Planted for fodder, not faith? In this exposé, we uncover how modern Israeli barley and wheat are no longer the signs of the biblical year — and how the priestly calendar never relied on them in the first place. From GPC-B1 gene modifications to engineered early harvests, this is the untold story of why the "Aviv calendar" has no scriptural or agricultural foundation. Dealing with the idea of “Waiting, Seeking, and Being strong,” Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to Isaiah chapter 51 to provide a glimpse of what “His world” will look like. For one thing, “His world” will include those who “pursue righteousness” (vs 1). For another, “His world” will be filled with the Light of His Torah (vs 4). To enter “His world,” we must have expectancy—a hope for all that Yah has promised to those who are His. Then, moving into the Psalms, Rabbi Berkson shows us the one verse that could solve all our fear and anxiety problems. From the Psalms, we move to Jeremiah, chapter 30, where we learn a little about the two houses, Judah and Israel, and that the doctrine of Replacement Theology has no standing in Scripture. Guard. Walk. Do. Sounds like covenant again, right? Rabbi Berkson takes us to Leviticus chapter 26 and shows us the promise of peace in His world through the words of the Creator. Then on to the prophet Micah chapter 4, as Yahweh says His mountain will be above all mountains and His house will be there, from where the Torah will go out to judge and teach all. In this section, Rabbi Berkson has a very different thought on verse 5 that you have probably never heard before. Becoming a Kingdom of Priests in Light of the Melchizedekian Order-Part 6 of our Melchizedek Series

In this 6th installment in our Melchizedek series, we discuss the concept of a royal priesthood as originally intended by Yah in Exodus 19. We focus on the importance of obedience to Yah's covenant for the establishment of this priesthood as well as we cover: Yah's Intent for a Priesthood: Yah intended for a royal priesthood among His people, as stated in Exodus 19, where He called Israel to be a kingdom of priests.   Melchizedek's Role: The figure of Melchizedek represents a royal priest, combining the roles of king and priest, predating the Levitical priesthood. Levitical Priesthood Establishment: The Levitical priesthood was established after Israel broke the covenant by worshiping the Golden Calf, restricting priestly duties to the tribe of Levi.   Covenant with Yah: The covenant was ratified at Mount Sinai, where Israel accepted Yah's terms, which included becoming a set-apart nation if they obeyed His laws.   Golden Calf Incident: The Golden Calf incident illustrates Israel's failure to remain faithful to Yah, leading to the establishment of the Levitical priesthood as a response to their unfaithfulness.   Yah's Expectations: Yah requires His people to guard His covenant to achieve the royal priesthood status; without obedience, this status cannot be realized.   Priestly Functions: The document discusses the priestly functions of educating others in Yah's Torah and modeling righteous behavior, which are central to fulfilling the role of a priest. Future Fulfillment: The original vision for a royal priesthood will ultimately be fulfilled through the ministry of Yeshua, who represents the Melchizedekian priesthood.

Christadelphians Talk
Thoughts on the readings for May 11th (Deuteronomy 28, Song of Solomon 8, Acts 25, 26)

Christadelphians Talk

Play Episode Listen Later May 10, 2025 4:53

Deuteronomy 28 verses 1 to 15 speak of the blessings that would accompany obedience to the ways of the LORD. Verses 16 to 68 speak of the punishment (curses) for disobedience – more than a threefold increase over the blessings. This in itself is an indication of the dominant direction that the nation of Israel would follow. Joshua no doubt picks up on this in the 24th chapter which gives his speech after the reading of Deuteronomy 27 and 28. The cursings contain prophecies about the holocaust which overtook the Jewish people in the middle of the twentieth century (particularly note verses 65-67). It is also interesting that there was no requirement for assent with the pronouncement of “Amen” after any of the blessings and cursings of chapter 28. The blessings tell of bountiful harvests, fruitful families and a guarantee of peace when the nation came to Jerusalem for worship. The cursed speak of droughts, adverse weather, poor crops, of being endlessly pursued by their enemies and of an incapacity to stand and fight against their foes. Song of Solomon 8 concludes the book. In the first 7 verses the bride continues to extol her well loved and highly desired husband. She says their mutual joys are like those of innocent children. These thoughts transport us in mind back to the innocence that was once in Eden before sin entered the world. These conditions will likewise characterise the kingdom age which will be ruled over by our majestic Master and his glorious bride. Verse 6 talks of a seal. Our eternal Father gives us this seal through His beloved Son the Lord Jesus Christ – John 6:26-29; Revelation 14:1-5. In the KJV we find no mention of Yahweh's name, nor reference to any of His titles. The ESV translation of verse 6, “set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of Yah.” Nothing can, says Solomon, be valued above love. This is true for the love of God and that of His Son – Romans 8:31-39. In verses 8-9 the bride's companions say that they have a litttle sister. The day when she will be spoken for will be the time when the fulness of the Gentiles will occur in the kingdom when all nations will at the millennium's end be incorporated into the body of Christ. In verses 10-12 the bride continues with her counting her blessings. In verse 13 the groom tells of his longing to hear the voice of his desirable spouse. The bride finishes the song in verse 14 with an urging of her groom to rush to her side to be with her (evermore). “Even so. Come Lord Jesus.” Read and ponder the culmination of our desires in Revelation 22:20-21. In Acts 25 tells us that, when Festus was determined to send Paul to Jerusalem, the Apostle had no alternative but to make his appeal to Caesar. After a short period of time Festus conducts another hearing of Paul's matters. Festus was again seeking the favour of the Jews and at this time Paul announces that he would exercise his right as a Roman Citizen to be judged by Caesar. We then hear of Herod Agrippa and his wife Bernice visiting Caesarea and at this time Festus requests that they hear Paul's case as Festus was struggling with the wording of the charge to be made against Paul. Festus explains to Agrippa that in his opinion there was no commuting or a capital crime, but simply matters concerning Jewish law. With great pomp and ceremony Agrippa, Bernice and all the other dignitaries enter the judgment hall. Festus seeks Agrippa's view about the nature of the charge to appear on the letter to be sent to Caesar. Chapter 26 records Paul's defence and his earnest appeal to Agrippa to embrace the Christian cause. Paul tells his audience of his fervour for the Jewish way and his concerted opposition to Christianity. But when he was confronted by the risen Lord Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus everything changed. He tells the audience of his great commission and then knowing king Agrippa to be a man who read the prophets he appeals to the king to adopt the Christian belief. Festus, being embarrassed by the situation, attempts to finish the hearing immediately by declaring Paul to be mad due to his great learning. Paul was not to be silenced so quickly and continues to ask Agrippa whether he believes the prophets. Paul states plainly I know you believe them king Agrippa. At this point king Agrippa and all the dignitaries rise and leave with the king stating Paul's innocence.

We are all born with our own desires and passions, but are they right and good for us? What about Yah's desires and passions? Is it possible for ours to meld with His? Continuing in Romans chapter 8, Rabbi Steve Berkson shows us more of what the apostle Paul wrote about the nature of man versus the nature of Elohim. What are the character traits of Elohim? Rabbi Berkson quickly moves us to Galatians 5:22-23 to reveal the answer. In Galatians chapter 5, Rabbi Berkson points out the comparison between the fruit of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit of Elohim. How does this fruit of Elohim show itself in our lives? What is the consequence of it not appearing in our lives? In James chapter 3, Rabbi Berkson helps us understand how the tongue can either steal peace or bring peace. Then Job replied to the LORD:2 “I know that you can do anything,    and no one can stop you.3 You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?'    It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about,    things far too wonderful for me.4 You said, ‘Listen and I will speak!    I have some questions for you,    and you must answer them.'5 I had only heard about you before,    but now I have seen you with my own eyes.6 I take back everything I said,    and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”Job 42:1-6The book of Job is perhaps the most unique book in the Old Testament. Up until this point we had been reading narrative accounts of historical events, but Job ushers us into new territory as a wisdom literature book. It tracks events that happen in the life of a man named Job . . . but it does leave you to wonder if these events really happened as written, or if this is a different type of literature exercise altogether. Most importantly for the book of Job though is what it teaches us about God and about ourselves and there's a central question at the very heart of this book that will completely change and shape how you read it. To help us navigate the book of Job is Dr. John Walton. Dr. Walton is professor of Old Testament Emeritus at Wheaton College and other of many books including How to Read Job and the NIV Application Commentary on Job.Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson begins in Deuteronomy 20 to examine how fear and peace cannot coexist. How do we today “do battle” with others? What's the “fear factor” in those situations? When a situation feels overwhelming, what do you do? How does leadership fit into the picture? Then, moving into Numbers chapters 13 and 14, Rabbi Berkson demonstrates how fear is contagious and highlights the failure of leadership when Israel went to spy out the promised land. Why did they have to “spy out” the land? Rabbi Berkson also offers some life coaching regarding jobs or careers and discusses how the fear of change can seep into one's walk with Yah. From there, Rabbi Berkson addresses the issue of “evil speaking, " in Hebrew “Lashon hara, " literally, “evil tongue. " He shares from the perspective of his organization MTOI, detailing the criticisms aimed at him and MTOI. Worship of Yah is absolutely central to serving Father, getting filled with His Spirit and drawing close to Him. One should worship for at least an hour every day of the week, every week of the year IF you are serious about drawing close to Him. Two hours a day is preferable if you are intensely committed. As you get increasingly filled with the Spirit of Yah you will find you have more energy and need less sleep. On this second occasion, while they were drinking wine, the king again said to Esther, “Tell me what you want, Queen Esther. What is your request? I will give it to you, even if it is half the kingdom!” Queen Esther replied, “If I have found favor with the king, and if it pleases the king to grant my request, I ask that my life and the lives of my people will be spared.  For my people and I have been sold to those who would kill, slaughter, and annihilate us. If we had merely been sold as slaves, I could remain quiet, for that would be too trivial a matter to warrant disturbing the king.” – Esther 7:2-4Esther holds an interesting place in the Old Testament. It's a post-exilic narrative similar to Ezra and Nehemiah, but rather than focusing on the Jewish community returning to Jerusalem, it tells the story of some of the Jewish remnant in Susa – people who for one reason or another chose not to return to Jerusalem. In many ways, Esther reads like a thriller. There's a nefarious plot, divine providence, and bold actions culminating in a decisive moment for Esther herself and the Jewish people. But, at its heart, Esther is a very relatable story. There are no demonstrative miracles, just people making the choice to stand up for a cause important to them and the God who is ever-present, even if not specifically named. To help us navigate the book of Esther is Dr. Iain Duguid, Professor of Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary and author of a commentary on Esther. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. “O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands, listen to my prayer! Look down and see me praying night and day for your people Israel. I confess that we have sinned against you. Yes, even my own family and I have sinned! We have sinned terribly by not obeying the commands, decrees, and regulations that you gave us through your servant Moses.“Please remember what you told your servant Moses: ‘If you are unfaithful to me, I will scatter you among the nations. But if you return to me and obey my commands and live by them, then even if you are exiled to the ends of the earth, I will bring you back to the place I have chosen for my name to be honored.'“The people you rescued by your great power and strong hand are your servants. O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honoring you. Please grant me success today by making the king favorable to me. Put it into his heart to be kind to me.” Nehemiah 1:5-10The book of Nehemiah continues the post-exilic story of the people of Israel that we started in Ezra. The people of Israel had been living in exile and the temple of Jerusalem had been destroyed. Yet now they had been allowed to return to rebuild the temple. Nehemiah is a book about the workers, about the real people who took up God's call to rebuild the temple. It's a book about putting God first, about leadership amidst trials and opposition – but ultimately it's a book about the truth that as much as we can build and rebuild buildings, it doesn't take the place of letting God build his temple in your heart. To help us navigate the book of Nehemiah is Dr. Dean Ulrich, author of the book Now and Not Yet about Ezra and Nehemiah.Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. “Praise the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who made the king want to beautify the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem! And praise him for demonstrating such unfailing love to me by honoring me before the king, his council, and all his mighty nobles. I felt encouraged because the gracious hand of the Lord my God was on me.” Ezra 7:27-28The book of Ezra continues the narrative of the people of Israel into what is known as the post-exilic period. When we left things in 2 Chronicles, the king of Babylon had conquered Jerusalem and the temple had been destroyed. But the final part of the book ends with a glimpse of what's to come. 2 Chronicles 36:23 says, “This is what King Cyrus of Persia says, ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build him a Temple at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Any of you who are the Lord's people may go there for this task. And may the Lord your God be with you.” That then ushers us right into the heart of the story of Ezra. Ezra 1 begins with this same retelling of Cyrus's words and then continues the story from there as we the Zerubbabel lead a group of exiles back to Jerusalem followed by Ezra's group. What follows is a story of rebuilding, opposition, and restoration. Ezra is a book that doesn't often get the credit it deserves as it sits alongside Nehemiah, but it is a beautiful picture of the God of continued second-chances and a people who so desperately need them. To help us navigate the book of Ezra is Dr. Tiberius Rata, Associate Dean and Professor of Old Testament at Grace College and author of a commentary on Ezra. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.' After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever.” – 2 Chronicles 20:20-212 Chronicles, the second part of the complete volume known as Chronicles, continues the retelling of the story we saw in 1 and 2 Kings. As we talked about in the 1 Chronicles episode, Chronicles is like a different vantage point look at the same events as Kings. But as we talk about in today's episode, the vantage point allows us to identify and focus on some beautiful themes – particularly what it means to live with God at the center of your life. 2 Chronicles takes us back to King Solomon, the Temple, the dividing of the kingdom, military victories, and the many good and bad kings of age. To help us navigate 2 Chronicles is Dr. Carol Kaminski, senior professor of Old Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and founder of Casket Empty, bible studies that trace God's plan of redemption through the entire Bible, and author of a commentary on Chronicles. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 16th of February, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Isaiah 26:3-4:”You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.Trust in the Lord forever,For in Yah, the Lord, is everlasting strength.” Then Psalm 20:7:”Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” Trust - who are you trusting in today, my dear friend? Are you trusting in politics? Are you trusting in your own efforts? Are you trusting in your personal belongings, your personal riches, your efforts, the things that you've built up, or are you trusting in the promise of God?I've got a dear friend, we have walked together for most of our lives and he is a lawyer by profession, and one day I spoke to him and I said, ”Leon, what is the ultimate trust that we can put ourselves into? He said, ”There is a word in Latin and this is what it says, “uberrimae fidei” which stands for utmost trust.” He says, ”The promise and the word of a person is more trustworthy than any document.” He says, ”That agreement that you've signed on that paper is not even worth the weight of the paper, it's the promise that a man gives you.“Now God has promised you, He will keep us in perfect peace if we concentrate our minds on Him. It's the trust that we have in the Lord that gives us His peace. Jesus Christ has promised you and He's promised me that He will never leave us and He will never forsake us, and that is where our faith comes from, and our peace, and our hope, and our future.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.

“Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And now, O God, in addition to everything else, you speak of giving your servant a lasting dynasty! You speak as though I were someone very great, O Lord God! What more can I say to you about the way you have honored me? You know what your servant is really like. For the sake of your servant, O Lord, and according to your will, you have done all these great things and have made them known.” – 1 Chronicles 17:16-19 The book of Chronicles, broken into 1 and 2 Chronicles, holds an interesting place in the Old Testament. When we finished the book of Kings, we were left with a back and forth tale of the divided kingdom between Israel and Judah seeing story after story of terrible king to terrible king, with occasional bright spots. 1 Chronicles, the next book of the Bible, goes back and tells much of the same story again, but from a different perspective. We once again read about King David, but it's as if we are getting a different vantage point to their reigns. 1 Chronicles is a fascinating book beginning with a series of genealogies, the death of Saul and the rise of David, military victories, the Ark of the Covenant, the role and duties of those who served God, and much more but, at its heart, it's a book about what it means to live a God-centered, worship-filled life. To help us navigate the book of 1 Chronicles is Dr. Mark Boda, Professor of Old Testament at McMaster Divinity College and author of the Cornerstone Biblical Commentary on 1-2 Chronicles.Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. Exodus 17 tells us how Israel's God provided water in the desert from the rock, when His people were extremely thirsty. And as the people had shown they always grumbled against the LORD, verse 3. This was typical of God's provision, for us in His Son the Lord Jesus Christ (see1 Corinthians 10 verses 1-6). Moses struck the rock, representing Israel's crucifying our Lord Jesus; out of whose side flowed water (John 19 verses 34-35,1 John 3 verses 6-8; note that the three that bare witness are the Spirit, the water and the blood – verse 7 in the AV is a faulty insertion by a Jesuit monk (in the Middle Ages). The finding of water immediately brought Israel into war with the Amalekites, who were killing the stragglers of Israel(Deuteronomy 25 verses 17-19 contrast with the attitude of the Israelites who had triumphantly departed Egypt in Psalm 105 verse 37. Their spirit failed with time and they failed to put their trust in the Living God (see Hebrews 3). Amalek came and fought with Israel and were defeated – not by might, nor by power, but by Yahweh's Spirit being exercised energetically on the behalf of His people in response to Moses' prayer. Note when Moses' hands dropped Amalek prevailed; but when they were extended upwards invoking the LORD's help for His people, Israel prevailed(see Hebrews 12 verses 12-14). He was supported in prayer by two men – Aaron the high priest; and Hur, (meaning “white” speaking of those who gain the victory through Christ) the prince of the tribe of Judah. So collectively these three men spoke of prophet, priest and king. Moses, Aaron and Hur agonised in prayer in order to aid Yahweh's warriors, led by Yahoshua (meaning “Yah's salvation). Israel's weapons were not carnal, but mighty to God (2 Corinthians 10 verses 3-6). This battle was against sin; and secondly symbolised Armageddon, when Gog (the chief of Russia) and its clans invade Israel in the near future). Consider Moses' prophecy about this in Numbers 24 verse 19. This is the reason that in verse 16 of the 17th chapter of Exodus God declared perpetual warfare on Amalek. And as emblem of His declared will a banner, or ensign was set up – verses 14 and 15 and a book written, and its words rehearsed in Joshua's ears – compare Isaiah's 4th chapter as speaking of the end of the process of destroying Amalek.Chapter 18 of Exodus explains the wise advice given to Moses by his father in law, Jethro. Jethro had taken custody of his daughter Zipporah and his two grandchildren from Moses, apparently when Moses had confronted Pharaoh in Egypt. Moses showed great respect for his father in law, who met him to return Moses' family back to him. Jethro was delighted by the report of Yahweh's wonders, which had been seen in Egypt. And Jethro, who appeared to have some familiarity with the Lord GOD of Israel, now acknowledged Yahweh's supremacy. The following day Jethro observed the great effort Moses exerted in judging the people. Jethro told Moses such efforts were not sustainable. He needed support in the work from honest, trustworthy men who hated bribery and covetousness. A hierarchy of help was established; leaving Moses as judge only in the most difficult cases. It also enabled Moses to prioritise his work as the mediator between God and His people. After this Jethro returned to his home in Midian.cont ...https://christadelphianvideo.org/thoughts-on-the-readings-for-february-9th-exodus-17-18-psalm-72-mark-5/

“What has been resolved has to be released.” In this the final episode of Forgiveness, Resolution, Reconciliation & Restoration, Rabbi Steve Berkson gives a more detailed review of everything that's been taught up to this point. He then moves into consequences incurred and consequences removed. What's the beauty of our relationship with our Creator? Rabbi Berkson takes us to 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 to find out. There we find the very well-known verse that starts with, “If my people who are called by my name…” In this passage we see all the processes of forgiveness, resolution, reconciliation and restoration. Does forgiveness necessarily remove consequences? What is it that the Creator is wanting from us as He forgives us? Who does he do all this for? Why should you be Torah-Observant? Because the path, the instructions for coming into right relationship with your Creator was given to Moshe (Moses), as the psalmist King David wrote in Psalm 103. If you have the proper fear or respect of Yah and His awesomeness, you will be given the desire to want a right relationship, aka, The Covenant, with Him. (see Deuteronomy 10:12-13) What does it mean to “pass over the transgression”? What is the Father's approach to forgiveness that we should have? (Micah 7:18) In Jeremiah 31:31, with whom is the “new covenant” made? Has He rejected one group to accept another group? Has this prophecy already happened? When you accept and act on the forgiveness provided you through what Messiah Yeshua did, does this absolve you of sin past, present and future? Why? Why not? Finishing this teaching in the letter to the Colossians, Rabbi Berkson points out words such as expectation, worthy, fit… what do these crucial words have to do with the reward promised to us? Along with those words there are other words such as fruitful, empowered, delivered, redemption. Don't miss this final episode of this series that will forever change your life. “Fifty men from the group of prophets also went and watched from a distance as Elijah and Elisha stopped beside the Jordan River. Then Elijah folded his cloak together and struck the water with it. The river divided, and the two of them went across on dry ground. When they came to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken away.” And Elisha replied, “Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit and become your successor.” - 2 Kings 2:7-9The book of 2 Kings picks up right where 1 Kings left off. The kingdom of Israel is divided into two kingdoms, Israel and Judah, and the prospects for God's people seem to wax and wane on the different leaders to come to power in each of these regions. Let's be clear, most of the leaders are, to put it mildly, not good. But there are a few bright spots too. In 2 Kings we also see Elijah taken to heaven and ascension of Elisha as we heard in the passage I read at the beginning of this episode. Trust me, you'll want to stay tuned later in the episode when we talk about Elisha – he's such a fun, interesting figure in the Bible. 2 Kings is fascinating because it toggles back and forth from Israel to Judah and back, all the while pointing us to a God who remains sovereign even when the kings of this earth turn away from him. To help us navigate the book of 2 Kings is Dr. Philip Ryken. Dr. Ryken is the president of Wheaton College and author of a commentary on the book of 2 Kings. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson focuses on what follows forgiveness, which we seek when we kneel before the Father after trespassing against Him. As he takes us to the first of the passages in this teaching, Luke 23:33, we see Messiah Yeshua as He is being crucified by the hands of the Romans, crying out to His Father to forgive them…they don't understand what they are doing. Can you do the same under much less circumstances? Can your unforgiveness cause someone to stumble? Rabbi Berkson takes us to Luke 17 to find out. Is the definition of the word ‘forgive' in this passage clear? Could you forgive someone who comes to you and repents seven times a day? How does faith (emunah) work together with forgiveness? Rabbi Berkson shows us how from the event in Matthew chapter nine. In Acts 5:30, Rabbi Berkson points out, through the apostle Peter's words, how Yah's forgiveness and repentance remove the consequences of sin. In 2 Corinthians 5:16, Rabbi Berkson explains the apostle Paul's idea that we should now look at forgiveness from a covenantal perspective. He says how much value the Father places upon you that He would send envoys to plead with you, reconcile with you, and restore you to favor. Don't miss this series of teachings on a subject that is so vital yet so misunderstood.

“Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, ‘How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!' But the people were completely silent.” – 1 Kings 18:21The book of 1 Kings marks the transition from the reign of King David to the reign of Solomon. The nation of Israel is now firmly in the age of monarchy and Solomon is ready to not just take over his father's mantle but also to build the temple his father had wanted to build. However, as is usually the case, things do not go smoothly and Solomon's reign ends up being a rollercoaster ride. 1 Kings also introduces us to Elijah, one of the most fascinating prophets in the Bible. This book, full of accounts of Solomon's wisdom, Solomon's palace, the ark of the covenant, the Queen of Sheba, Elijah's miracles and his defeat of the prophets of Baal, this full and robust book, is at its heart a book about God – who the one true God is. To help us navigate the book of 1 Kings is Dr. Iain Provan, Professor Emeritus of Biblical Studies at Regent College and author of the Understanding the Bible Commentary on 1 & 2 Kings. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. “Who am I, O Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And now, Sovereign Lord, in addition to everything else, you speak of giving your servant a lasting dynasty! Do you deal with everyone this way, O Sovereign Lord?” – 2 Samuel 7:18-19In 1 Samuel, we were introduced to a new cast of characters in the story of Israel – and a new season of change. The people of Israel demanded a king and, despite God's warnings through the prophet Samuel, they were given Saul, the first king of Israel. But all was not well and soon God's anointing turns from Saul to David. 1 Samuel ends with the death of Saul and 2 Samuel then picks up the story of David's reign as king. 2 Samuel is a complex book of palace intrigue, wars, adultery, murder, repentance – all wrapped around these themes of who is the real king and what does it really mean to be a man after God's own heart. To help us navigate this book is Dr. Heath Thomas. Dr. Thomas is the president of Oklahoma Baptist University, an Old Testament Professor, and author of the Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary: Exalting Jesus in 1 & 2 Samuel. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland.
