Numbers have meaning. For one caller, the number 26 has followed her for her entire life — birthdays, addresses, arrests, even dorm rooms. It became a pattern too strange to ignore. But it wasn't until her best friend Dominic tragically died in a house fire that the number took on a life of its own. Her husband’s death began a period of transition for Nora. She took over his hardware business and cared for their three children on her own. “Be strong,” friends often told her. But what does that mean? she’d think. That I must deliver without fail in my responsibilities? God gave great responsibilities to Othniel in a time of transition for the people of Israel. As discipline for the nation’s idolatry, God had given them “into the hands of Cushan-Rishathaim . . . to whom the Israelites were subject for eight years” (Judges 3:8). Under the cruel king of Mesopotamia, the Israelites “cried out to the Lord,” and “he raised up for them a deliverer” (v. 9)—Othniel, whose name means “God’s strength.” As the first judge of Israel, Othniel had no predecessor to help him. This military leader had to guide the Israelites back to living out their covenant relationship with God and defend them from their enemies. But because “the Spirit of the Lord came on him” (v. 10), he succeeded. With God’s strength sustaining Othniel’s leadership, “the land had peace for forty years, until [he] died” (v. 11). How can we truly “be strong”? It’s by knowing we’re not strong and by trusting God to give us His strength. His “grace is sufficient for [us], for [His] power is made perfect in weaknes

In today's episode, Florence Atiega kicks things off with a heartfelt community greeting, reminding us all that we are loved. As we continue our 261st day in the journey through the Bible, we dive deep into Ezekiel chapters 42 through 44, where detailed visions of the temple layout, the holiness of God's dwelling, and the responsibilities of the priests take center stage. We then soar to the breathtaking promises found in Revelation 22, where John describes the crystal-clear river of life and the ultimate restoration and glory awaiting God's people. As always, we reflect on God's word, letting it shape and transform us. Florence leads us in thoughtful prayer, inviting God's presence, peace, and mercy into our day. The episode also features warm check-ins from listeners around the world before a grateful shout-out to the faithful supporters who make this daily podcast possible. Whether you're joining from Maryland or the far reaches of the globe, settle in—let's soak in the Scriptures together, discover God's heart, and remember this powerful truth: you are loved. TODAY'S DEVOTION: John sees a river called life. It's crystal clear—radiant, transparent, a perfect reflection of the truth and beauty found in the One who is Life itself. John invites us to join him, to look together into those crystal waters and behold something marvelous: the very glory of God, revealed as in a mirror. In that vision, we not only see God as He truly is but also discover ourselves as we truly are—loved, cherished children of God. Paul, in 2 Corinthians, tells us that as we behold God's glory, we are being transformed “from glory to glory.” The veils that have obscured God's true heart, all the lies that have separated us from Him and plunged us into darkness and despair—those will be removed. The day is coming when we'll see with clear, unveiled faces. In that moment, seeing the face of Jesus, we will discover the deepest hope of our hearts: that we belong, that we bear the family resemblance, that we are His. John tells us the river of life is not just for a future day. Even here and now, as we look to Jesus through the Scriptures, as we meditate on His goodness and see His fingerprints in creation, those veils begin to lift. Day by day, we gain greater clarity of who God is—and who we are in Him. As we let His Word and His presence wash over us, we are transformed to live as His beloved. Every moment spent in His presence is a glimpse of that crystal river, a taste of the unveiled life that is to come. That's a prayer I have for my soul—may I see with unveiled face. It's a prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And it's a prayer I have for you. May we all come to the river and see, and know, and reflect the glory of the Lord. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. "Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours." - 1 Chronicles 29:11If God owns it all, what does that mean for the way we manage money? Brian Holtz is here to unpack the Five Pillars of Financial Discipleship—principles that, when embraced by families, bring freedom and joy to their finances.Brian Holtz is the CEO of Compass Financial Ministry and the author of Financial Discipleship for Families: Intentionally Raising Faithful Children.More Than Money ManagementWhen it comes to managing money as followers of Christ, the Bible calls us to more than financial freedom or peace of mind. It calls us to financial discipleship—a life of stewardship, surrender, and multiplication for God's Kingdom. Here are five key pillars that shape this journey.Pillar One: OwnershipEverything begins with recognizing who truly owns it all. Scripture reminds us in Psalm 24:1, Haggai 2:8, and 1 Chronicles 29:11 that God is the Creator and ultimate Owner of everything. Our role is not ownership but stewardship. This mindset shift—from “mine” to “His”—brings both relief and challenge. It's freeing to know the responsibility doesn't all rest on us, but humbling to realize our lives and resources are not ultimately ours to control.Pillar Two: SurrenderAcknowledging God's ownership requires surrender. Luke 14:33 makes this clear: discipleship means yielding everything back to God, not just intellectually but in our hearts. This surrender extends beyond giving—it includes how we spend, save, and plan. Trusting God's plan over our own is an act of daily obedience.Pillar Three: ChoiceIn Matthew 6:24, Jesus tells us we cannot serve both God and money. Every financial decision—whether saving, giving, or spending—reveals who we serve. Choosing God requires aligning daily habits with His Word, even when it feels counterintuitive. As Isaiah reminds us, God's ways are higher and better than ours.Pillar Four: MultiplicationDiscipleship is never meant to stop with us. In the Parable of the Talents, Jesus calls us to multiply what He has entrusted to us. This means sharing what we've learned and inviting others into the journey. Financial discipleship involves helping others apply biblical wisdom so that God's Kingdom continues to grow.Pillar Five: Eternal FocusFinally, discipleship means setting our eyes on eternity. Jesus said in Matthew 6:19–21 to store up treasures in heaven, not on earth. But these treasures aren't material—they're about our relationship with Christ. Living with an eternal focus keeps us from being distracted by temporary wealth and anchors our hope in Him alone. How Financial Discipleship DiffersIt's easy to confuse financial discipleship with financial stewardship or freedom. Stewardship may stop at wise resource management, but discipleship goes further—it's about helping others learn, apply, and multiply biblical truth for God's glory. True discipleship always leads to transformation, both personally and in community.Compass Financial Ministry exists to equip believers to live this way. Through resources, training, and community, they help people break free from the love of money and serve God more fully. Financial discipleship is really about helping others learn, apply, and multiply everything for God's glory, rather than for our own. Many denominations have erroneous traditions about what it means to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. The scriptures reveal that not all who received the Spirit spoke with tongues, but all were quickened with the equipping to hear the Word of God and to proclaim it. The Father sent a Comforter, one alongside the called, to His church, the out-called ones. The mark of a Christian is the out-raying of God's nature in us, which is the fruit of the Spirit, not the crazy acts people use to try to prove they have the gifts of the Spirit. Every day brings choices — some small, some life-altering. In today's prayer and devotional, we remember that whether it’s navigating relationships, parenting, work, or personal growth, our need for God’s wisdom is constant. Wisdom is more than human intelligence or cleverness. It is discernment rooted in God’s will, applied through a humble heart that acknowledges His way is always better. Amanda Idleman reminds us that our natural instinct is to react emotionally or cling to control. But God’s wisdom invites us to pause, pray, and listen. His way looks beyond the moment and steers us toward goodness, mercy, and Spirit-led living. Seeking wisdom requires intentional rhythms — morning prayers, moments of worship, pauses in the middle of our busyness — that anchor us in His guidance. God promises that wisdom is His gift to those who ask (James 1:5). As we cultivate hearts that surrender and listen, we learn to discern His gentle nudges, recognize His peace, and walk confidently in His direction. Today's Bible Reading: "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding." – Proverbs 2:6 Key Takeaways Wisdom is God’s gift, rooted in discernment and alignment with His purposes. Our way is often reactive, but God’s way sees the bigger picture. Building daily rhythms of prayer and Scripture helps us hear His guidance. God’s wisdom shapes not just our choices but also our character and faithfulness. Let’s Pray Together Father, I need You to help me know Your way and find Your path. I need Your wisdom for today’s decisions. Show me how to pause and listen for Your Spirit before I rush ahead. Forgive me for relying on my own pride and control. Teach me to live humbly, trusting Your way is better. Thank You for being faithful to provide wisdom for every circumstance. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Calls to Action Begin each day by asking God for wisdom before making decisions. Create small “holy pauses” throughout your day to re-center on God’s direction. Share this episode with someone facing a difficult choice and remind them of Proverbs 2:6. Subscribe to Your Daily Prayer for daily encouragement and prayer rooted in Scripture. When I became physically disabled in my mid-twenties, much of the world became inaccessible to me—including faith spaces. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today's episode, “September 16th, 2025,” host Hunter invites us to gather around the Scriptures and discover what God is saying to us on day 260 of our journey. We'll explore detailed visions of the temple in Ezekiel 40 and 41, the blessings of Psalm 128, and the promise of a new heaven and new earth in Revelation 21. Hunter walks us through these passages as our Bible reading coach, highlighting how the temple—once the epicenter of sacrifice and divine presence—is ultimately eclipsed by Jesus, the true source of life, light, and hope. Heather joins to share a personal reflection on change, using a story about Portland's migrating swifts as a reminder of God's enduring faithfulness amidst life's transitions. Together, we close with heartfelt prayers and encouragement to embrace the new seasons God brings. Settle in as we warm our hearts by the fires of God's love, and remember—no matter what changes, you are loved. TODAY'S DEVOTION: The story of sacrifice is no more. That's what stands out in today's readings—a whole narrative built around altars, offerings, and a temple, with its Most Holy Place, fades away. In Ezekiel, we see exact measurements for the place where heaven and earth would meet, the space where God would, by design, invite broken humanity into his holy presence through sacrifice. The temple stood as the epicenter of Israel's worship and God's bridge to his people. Every room, every altar, every detail pointed forward, always and only ever pointing us to him—the Lamb. But in Revelation, John sees something altogether new. The story changes. There is no more temple, because there is no more need for it: “I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.” Even the sun and the moon, those keepers of time, are no more. All that once gave structure and symbol to history has been eclipsed. Darkness, suffering, and death are gone. The instruments of sacrifice have given way to the fullness of what they pointed towards—Jesus himself. What remains? Life. The Lamb's Book of Life. Jesus, the Lamb, has brought history to its completion. All stories are now dissolved into his, and only he remains, shining brighter than the sun, illuminating the city, and infusing every moment with the glory of God. The story of God's unfailing love has reached its apex, and you have been woven into that story. Your name, written in his book, means you share his eternal life and light. So now, we are called to live in that light, to abide in him, to let his life become ours. All other stories fall away. The seasons change. The world shifts around us. But here is something that endures, unchanging: you are written into the very life of Christ. The Lamb is your temple. The Lamb is your life. That's a prayer I have for my own soul. That's a prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer I have for you. Amen. Summary In this episode, Dr. Michael Easley is joined by theologian Dr. Fred Sanders to explore the essential connection between the Trinity and the Christian life. Dr. Sanders explains how the work of salvation is one unified act of God—accomplished by the Son and applied by the Spirit. Together, they discuss how terms like “indwelling,” “filling,” and “illumination” describe the Spirit's role in bringing believers into the fullness of Christ's work. Dr. Sanders highlights that while different traditions use various words to capture the Spirit's activity, the unifying theme is that the Spirit applies what belongs to Christ directly to believers. He emphasizes that this understanding keeps Christians from fragmenting salvation into pieces and instead shows how the Father, Son, and Spirit work inseparably for our redemption. The conversation also touches on practical challenges: why faithful Christians sometimes reach different conclusions in studying Scripture, how conscience and conviction intersect, and how works fit into salvation. Ultimately, Dr. Sanders reminds us that the Trinity is not “doctrine number 21” tacked onto our faith, but the very center that holds all Christian belief and experience together. Takeaways Salvation is accomplished by the Son and applied by the Spirit. Terms like indwelling, filling, and illumination describe aspects of the Spirit's work. The Spirit takes what belongs to Christ and gives it to believers. Conscience is an unreliable master but a useful servant under the Spirit's guidance. Good works flow naturally from salvation but never earn it. The Trinity is not an add-on doctrine but the framework that unites all Christian belief. What are the defilements of flesh and spirit that Paul talks about? Can we be tarnished spiritually as believers? How can I stand up for the truth in my small group without creating division? Can a Christian be possessed by a demon? What is the ultimate solution to spiritual warfare?
Welcome to the first week of the Gospel Spice Podcast's series, "Identity in the Battle," where we embark on a journey through the book of Ephesians. In this lesson, we'll dive into the heart of Ephesians chapter 1, focusing on what it means to have our identity rooted "in Christ." As we walk through Ephesians, we're encouraged to "taste and see that the Lord is good"—embracing the variety and richness that God offers. Overview of Ephesians Paul wrote the letter to the Ephesians while in prison around AD 60–62. The key purpose of this letter is to urge believers to walk as fruitful followers of Christ, serving in unity and love, particularly in challenging times. Paul's guidance in Ephesians is deeply relevant to our own spiritual journeys today. The book can be split into three main parts: Chapters 1–3: Who we are in Christ (our identity). Chapters 4–5: How to walk out our calling (practical Christian living). Chapter 6: How to face spiritual battles with the armor of God. Identity: In Christ, Adoption, and the Holy Spirit Paul uses the expression “in Christ” (or similar) ten times in the first fourteen verses of Ephesians. This repetition emphasizes that our identity is rooted not in our achievements, background, family, or appearance—but solely in who Jesus says we are. What matters is God's perspective of us, not the world or even those closest to us. Stephanie highlights that understanding our identity is a lifelong process, with four main steps: Discovery: Learn who God is, what He's done, who He says you are, and what He calls you to do. Acceptance: Move from mere head knowledge to heart-level acceptance. Truly taste and see that God is good. Transformation: Let your understanding of God begin to change you from the inside out—your thoughts, your self-image, and your relationships. Daily Living: Live in your new identity daily, relying on the Holy Spirit and the Christian community for support. Adoption into God's Family Paul employs the metaphor of adoption—a process which, in both Roman law and today, requires moving from one family to another, with full legal recognition and new rights. As Christians, we were once “children of wrath,” but God chose to bring us into His family, giving us full rights as His sons and daughters. This legal and spiritual transformation means that our old “family” (the world and sin) no longer defines us, and we now receive an eternal inheritance with Christ. The Holy Spirit: Our Seal and Guarantee Paul says we are “sealed by the Holy Spirit,” who is the guarantee of our inheritance. This sealing means we belong to God forever, and the Spirit empowers us to live out our new identity and purpose. Application and Encouragement As new members of God's family, we are called to let go of old habits and embrace the rights, intimacy, and inheritance God offers us in Christ. This transformation is possible because of the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, who assures us that we are deeply loved, accepted, and called. Take time this week to reflect on these truths. Discover, accept, and step into your identity in Christ—chosen, adopted, and sealed for a purpose far greater than you ever imagined. Discussion Questions: What does it mean to you to be “in Christ”? How does understanding spiritual adoption change how you see yourself? In what ways do you need to daily embrace your new identity and release your old one? Gospel Spice exists to inspire our generation to delight in God. We do this through the podcast, online Bible studies, leadership trainings, and more. We want to serve Christ-followers who seek to live a life spiced with the gospel. We want to love God, because He first loved us. We want to experience the fullness of life with Him—and not be content with stale, boring, leftover faith. Jesus tells us that the most important thing is to love the Lord our God, so we take Him seriously. He adds that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. Now, there are many ways to do that, but I have always personally felt deep compassion for victims of human trafficking – it is modern day slavery, and it revolts the heart of God. And so, they are our particular neighbors here at Gospel Spice. We want to play our part in raising awareness and then financially supporting those who fight this great evil. Now we would love to invite you to join the team in one of three ways: 1, pray Gospel Spice forward – pray for our guests, our listeners and participants, and for us too! 2, play Gospel Spice forward by telling your friends about us, and by please leaving positive reviews and comments on your podcast listening app; and 3rd, PAY GospelSpice forward. Less than 1% of our listeners are supporting us financially. We need your help! Please pay Gospel Spice forward today. It can be a one-time donation, or a monthly one, for the amount of your choice. Your donation is fully tax-deductible in the US. Plus, once we cover our costs, a significant portion of your donation will be given back to Christian organizations that fight human trafficking, and that we vet thoroughly. So, you can know that every dime you give is used for the Kingdom of God. Every little bit helps. So, be part of the spice of the gospel by becoming a financial partner today! Details and registration here: https://www.gospelspice.com/prayer There are a few things in our Christian life that we know we should do more, or at least better – and prayer just might top the list. Prayer is a mystery. Why would a conversation with a human have any influence on God's eternal, sovereign plan? It defies logic, and beckons love. How can God, the Almighty Lord of Hosts, be this close, this personal? It defies understanding, and beckons involvement. But, lack of time, inspiration, and discipline, combined with the ruthless tyranny of our busy lives, push prayer to the periphery, to the “one day I'll get to it” pile. And yet, we can excel at what we endeavor to undertake. So, why isn't prayer more of a spiritual priority? Could we develop a mindset around prayer that made it attractive, inspiring, even maybe delightful? What if we attuned our spiritual ears to listen to God, and our spiritual eyes to see His provision? As an unassuming student, I'm going to humbly offer to share the little I have learned from others about the joy of prayer. I will give us theology, practical tips, and useful resources, sharing what works for me as we, together, learn to pray. If you find prayer intimidating, or if your lack of prayer makes you feel guilty or “less than,” then this is the place for you! If you have been a student of prayer for many years, this is the place for you too! If you have breath in your lungs, then prayer can become one of the deepest joys of your day. Don't miss out! A PERSPECTIVE ABOUT PRAYER To pray is to believe that God not only hears, but that He responds. It is to stand in the gap for a broken world, wielding the authority of Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and trusting in the goodness of the Father. The question is not whether prayer works, but whether we are willing to pray the kinds of prayers that invite God's Kingdom into the darkest places of the earth—and of our own hearts. We may never fully understand the mechanics of prayer, or how it intersects with God's sovereignty, but we are not called to understand everything. We are called to be faithful. And faithfulness means showing up—in prayer, in persistence, in expectation. So today, let us pray not only for the comfort of our hearts, but for the transformation of the world. Let us take our place as image-bearers, co-laborers, and co-heirs. Let us believe that God is still listening—and still acting. Because He is. There's only one way to find out what might happen when we truly pray like this. Let's begin. THE MINDSET BEHIND THIS COURSE Before we begin, let me tell you the obvious: I don't really know how to pray. I'm a humble student and absolute beginner at the holy endeavor that is prayer. So, this course isn't really about what I've learned, or any wisdom I might have gathered. But, I've sat at the feet of many prayer warriors over the decades, through books and teachings. So, I'll share what I learned from them. Humility is going to be our primary heart posture! With each lesson, I will offer a few thoughts, practices, and ideas – with much humility, and not taking myself too seriously. I will also share her favorite books and resources about prayer. FInally, I will introduce you to some of the most influential prayer warriors of our history as the Body of Christ. Most importantly, I will invite YOU to pray! Learning to pray comes from praying. Our humble ambition is to inspire you to pray, and to give you a few tips on how to do that. Then, it's up to you! Prayer is a lifelong endeavor. Let's make it delightful together! Latte and Laundry: A home for Catholic women, moms, and hearts
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” – 1 Corinthians 12:4-6. This week I speak to the heart of the working momma! Somehow, many of us have bought into the lie that to be a good momma, you should not work. However, time and time again, God has revealed that his path towards holiness is divinely unique for every one of us. It isn't about what we do; work, stay-at-home, public school, private school, or homeschool, but rather how we do it. Is our heart oriented towards heaven? Are we leaning into the magnificence of our vocation with a deep desire to love our children well, regardless of how we do it? Do we know the eternal impact of shepherding our children back to him? In this episode she shares her story of God's faithfulness and describes her grateful heart despite the immense suffering. Through it all, Tara wrote a book called Finding Everyday Fruit: Discover and Develop a Life Formed by the Fruit of the Spirit. With host Joey Svendsen, the two discuss the Fruit of the Spirit in the context of her book; and switch topics to question worship services: Should big screens show closeups of worship leaders during services? Why does Seacoast play high quality worship music and what role do human emotions play in the worship experience? And, what does it say about a person who has a challenging time worshipping to songs he or she doesn't like? It has been quite a week. My heart has been heavy with sadness, shock, grief, anger, confusion—and also with a resolve. Once again, tragedy has shaken our nation and reminded us of the brokenness in our culture. As Psalm 120 says, “In my distress I cried to the Lord, and He heard me… I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.”In moments like this, the temptation is to turn inward—to blame, to divide, to harden our hearts. But as followers of Jesus, our first response is to turn upward. This is a moment for prayer. It's a time to seek God's presence, to humble ourselves, and to remember that our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1–2).So how do we respond? We pray. We care for those around us. We stay tethered to a Kingdom that is above politics, culture, and rhetoric—a Kingdom that carries peace in the storm and hope for the future. We choose humility and boldness, and we let joy be our strength.Prayer Focus This Week:Pray for our nation and for God to pour out His Spirit.Pray for eyes, ears, and hearts to awaken to truth.Pray for comfort for those who mourn and grieve.Pray that despair will lift and hope will fill hearts.Pray for an awakening in the Church, full of the Spirit and boldness.Pray for God-given creativity and solutions to bring healing.Pray for this to be a true turning to God moment across our land.Let's be a people who grieve without it turning into bitterness and hate, who hold hope and who believe that unity grows where pride and fear die.-Eric J.For more info, you can go to our website, check us out on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. Charles Spurgeon once said, “Consider how precious a soul must be, when both God and the devil are after it.” The story of the Rich Young Ruler in Matthew 19 shows us just how true that is. This young man approached Jesus with a pressing question: “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”What followed was a conversation that revealed not only his heart but also the way possessions can grip any of us more deeply than we realize.A Revealing QuestionAt first glance, the man seemed sincere. But notice his words: “What good thing must I do?” He assumed that eternal life could be earned—checked off like an item on a list. Jesus, however, had just finished telling the crowd that the Kingdom belongs to those who receive it like children, wholly dependent on God's goodness. The man either missed or resisted that truth. When Jesus pointed him to the commandments, it wasn't because those could save him. It was to reveal what held the highest place in his heart. Outwardly, he looked moral. Inwardly, his wealth had become his god. When the man pressed further, Jesus cut to the core: “Go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19:22 records the heartbreaking result: “When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had many possessions.”The issue wasn't money—it was devotion. Jesus loved him enough to name the one thing keeping him from life. For him, it was wealth. For us, it might be something else—career, reputation, control. Whatever we prize above Christ must be surrendered. What This Means for UsDoes this mean every believer is called to sell everything? Not necessarily. As the NIV Study Bible notes, Jesus's command applied directly to this man's spiritual condition. But the principle still stands: anything we cling to more tightly than Christ can become a barrier to faith. After the man walked away, Jesus warned His disciples: “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Wealth is not evil, but it has the unique power to enslave us.So the question for us is this: What competes for your devotion? What gives you a sense of identity or security apart from Christ?Jesus's words to the Rich Young Ruler are both sobering and full of hope. Wealth can blind us to our need for God, but surrendering to Christ leads to true life. The invitation is the same today: Will we cling to temporary treasures, or embrace the eternal treasure of knowing Him?Because the problem isn't wealth, the problem is worship.———————————————————————————————————————At FaithFi, we often talk about being “rich toward God,” a phrase Jesus used in Luke 12 when warning about the Rich Fool. Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com "When the glory falls" versus "falling short of the glory" It is important not to confuse the phrase with "falling short of the glory," which is a separate biblical concept from Romans 3:23. In that context, "falling short of the glory of God" refers to sin and the human failure to reflect God's perfect character. The saying "when the glory falls" is not about a personal failure but about a collective, supernatural experience of God's overwhelming presence In Christian terminology, "when the glory falls" means the moment when the manifest presence of God becomes so powerful in a place or among a group of people that it is physically or spiritually tangible. It is often associated with intense worship, supernatural manifestations, and a profound sense of God's power and holiness. Biblical roots This phrase is inspired by multiple events in the Bible where God's presence was revealed in a powerful, undeniable way: The Tabernacle and Temple: In Exodus, after the Tabernacle was completed, the glory of the Lord appeared as a cloud and filled the tent, preventing Moses from entering. A similar event happened during the dedication of Solomon's Temple in 2 Chronicles, where God's glory was so overwhelming that the priests could not stand to minister. Pentecost: In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit "fell" on the disciples in the form of wind and fire, an event that empowered them and marked the birth of the Church. Isaiah's vision: The prophet Isaiah had a vision where the train of the Lord's robe filled the temple, and the sound of the seraphim praising God shook the building. Meaning in modern Christianity The phrase is used today, particularly within Charismatic and Pentecostal denominations, to describe a highly anticipated moment during a church service or revival. Deep spiritual encounter: It signifies a moment of intense spiritual experience where people feel a profound sense of awe and reverence for God. Tangible power: Believers describe the experience as the "weight" or "heaviness" of God's presence, an overwhelming spiritual force. Manifestations: During these moments, physical and emotional reactions can occur. Some people may fall to the ground in worship, a phenomenon referred to as being "slain in the Spirit." Others may cry out, shake, or feel waves of heat or energy. Supernatural occurrences: For many, the "glory falling" is associated with miracles and healings, where people are healed in their seats without physical touch, as the presence of God moves through the room. Divine heist or kidnapping - its a takeover: It represents a shift from a human-led service to one in which God is taking control. In these moments, planned sermons or prayers may actually stop the flow as worship takes over and the Holy Spirit moves in unexpected ways. But here is the kicker, it almost always happens in context of believers meeting together in worship or in church (doesn't have to be a church building, but it is the church that gets together) My point… what if you went to church not hoping worship is good, the preacher is good, the sermon keeps your attention, you see sally and Bill… what if you go to church to be the church - to pray, worship and expect the glory to fall.
Send us a textWhat's the missing element in your family legacy plan? Most successful entrepreneurs wouldn't dream of running a business without a strategic plan, yet we often leave our most important organization—our families—to operate without clear direction or purpose. The reason God chose Abraham reveals the answer. Genesis 18:19 tells us God selected Abraham specifically because "he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord." This divine endorsement of family planning serves as our foundation for creating lasting legacies that extend beyond financial success.A comprehensive family plan consists of several critical components. Start with a vision statement—a concise declaration of what your family stands for (mine is "Passion for Jesus, compassion for people"). Develop a mission statement outlining how you'll live that vision daily. Identify core values that define your family character—these become the filters through which you make decisions. Finally, create a family constitution establishing rules for handling conflicts, money, responsibilities, and time.Implementing this framework requires intentional family gatherings where everyone contributes to the conversation about what you collectively value. Document these discussions and revisit them regularly during family meetings. As Habakkuk 2:2 instructs, "Write the vision down, make it plain." My family has begun this journey by exploring what the McCart family should be known for—loyalty, family unity, generosity, and Spirit-led decision-making.The benefits are transformative: unity during challenges, clear decision-making frameworks, stronger identity in your children, and effective transfer of both wealth and values to future generations. Don't leave your family's legacy to chance. Start crafting your family vision today, and discover how this intentionality becomes the foundation for generational impact.Have you started developing your family plan? Presented by Lauren Stibgen We love it when things happen quickly! Wouldn't it be great if the dream that came to your mind could just—poof—happen tomorrow? I admit, the thought of a good vision suddenly happening muses in my mind. Culturally, this is sometimes referred to as manifesting something. Basically, if you think about it enough and envision it as done, then it will be so. You and I know only God can perform a mighty miracle like this, and more often than not, he prefers to use the long game of endurance to help us build that one fruit of the Spirit we are talking about this month—patience. The more I thought about enduring in patience, I realized it is part of how God created us in his image. About 4,000 years passed from the fall in Genesis to Jesus in the Gospels. During this time, God endured in patience while his people fell in and out of obedience. Our God is a super patient God. As his people, we really need to work on this enduring part! Let's consider the story of Moses and Mt. Sinai. This is the time he had to go up to meet with God to receive the commandments for the people of Israel. First, he had to cut two giant tablets of stone. While we don't know how long this took, I can imagine this took patience in the form of endurance. Next, he went up for 40 days in the presence of the Lord. The Lord himself inscribed those stone tablets with the 10 Commandments for his people. During those 40 days, the people of Israel did not endure patiently! In Exodus 32 you can read more about the Israelite's impatience and their demands on Moses's brother Aaron to create something for them to worship—the golden calf. They were so impatient in waiting on God, they used their worldly possessions of gold and jewelry to create this golden calf. Moses comes down from Mt Sinai to this sight and drops the tablets—breaking them into pieces. The word of God—his own penmanship—shattered! After the destruction of this man-made idol, Moses again cuts two more tablets and heads back up Mt. Sinai for another 40 days. God must redo the tablets for Moses to take back down to the remaining people of Israel. How often are you trading the endurance God may be calling you to for something you are making for yourself? Are you leaning into what culture tells you to do? Going it alone—creating your own destiny? We are created in God's image, and God is very patient! He wants us to be patient with him! God's timing is always perfect!

The word "baptism" is a Greek word (from "bapto") that indicates a dipping into. It is used in four ways in the New Testament: the baptism of John the Baptist, the baptism of Christ's suffering, the baptism of believers, and the baptism in the Holy Spirit. John's baptism unto repentance and confession represented a bridge between the old way of the Law and the prophets and the new way of the Gospel. Jesus instructs his followers to make disciples, baptizing them and then continuing to teach them. The pattern in the New Testament is the hearing of the Gospel followed by baptism. It's not about gadgets, worksheets, or even the words we say. The most powerful coaching tools are not tangible at all. They're experiential. They shape how your client feels, how they think, and how they transform. Today, I'll share five of the most important coaching tools I've discovered in decades of training and practice. These aren't just methods. They're actually biblical, Spirit-led ways of partnering with God to help someone change from the inside out. And once you learn to use them, you will never see coaching or your clients the same way again. Welcome to the Christian Coaching School podcast. I'm your host, Doctor Leelo Bush. I'm a master coach, author, curriculum creator and the number one authority on Spirit-led Christian coaching. I've trained tens of thousands worldwide since 2003, and if you are ready to uplevel your skills, find greater fulfillment, and employ the most powerful coaching available to mankind, let's go. Welcome back to the Christian Coaching School podcast. I'm your host, Doctor Leelo Bush, and today we're diving into a powerful topic. We're talking about the five best coaching tools every coach needs. Now, these aren't just nice-to-have tools. These are the tools that will make or break your effectiveness as a coach—the very things that transform conversations into breakthroughs. And as you'll hear, each one of these tools is also grounded in God's Word. Be sure to stay with me until the end, because I'll be announcing our highlight podcast review and Amazon gift card winner. And if you'd like a chance to win in the future, make sure you leave us a review wherever you're listening. All right, let's dive in. One of the first and most important skills a coach must learn is holding space. This means you show up fully present for your client, giving them your complete attention without judgment, without rushing to fix them, and without making it about you. Practically, this looks like open body language, steady eye contact, and silence that isn't uncomfortable, but supportive. It's letting your client know through your presence—whether it's in person, on the phone, or on a Zoom call—that you are safe here. You can share what's really on your heart and I will not condemn you for it. Why is this so critical? Because most clients enter sessions carrying shame or fear of being misunderstood. If they sense criticism, they will close up. But if they feel accepted, they'll open up. That's when the real coaching begins. Matthew 7:1 says, do not judge, or you too will be judged. Jesus himself modeled this by welcoming people others rejected. He listened and he cared. He made them feel safe and seen. When you hold space for a client, you mirror the mercy and grace of God. Here's when to use this tool: every single coaching session, especially at the beginning of your relationship and anytime your client is sharing something tender or vulnerable. Holding space is the foundation of transformation. The second tool is a thought framework. Understanding how this framework functions will change how you coach and improve your effectiveness. This simple yet powerful framework, originally described within CBT structures and later coined as “The Model” and widely promoted by Brooke Castillo, demonstrates how circumstances trigger thoughts, which in turn create feelings, which drive actions, and ultimately lead to results. Now, this is the perfect example of an evidence-based coaching tool. This process is not really anything we can argue with—it is simply the way God created our brains to function. And we can see this evidence every day if we look for it. Here's how it looks in practice. Let's say your client says, “I'll never be able to do this.” That thought creates a feeling within them—in this case, most likely discouragement. That discouragement typically causes procrastination, and the result is failure to move forward. When you walk them through this framework, you will help them see the cycle and then choose a new thought, one that lines up with the truth and the outcome that they are really looking for. Romans 12:2 tells us, be transformed by the renewing of your mind. That's exactly what this framework helps our clients do. It takes what feels complicated and overwhelming and puts it into a simple framework that reveals where transformation needs to begin—in the thought life. Here's when to use this tool: anytime a client feels stuck, caught in old patterns, or unable to reach their goals. This framework helps them see the connection between their thoughts and outcomes, and equips them to make lasting change. I recommend you learn and practice this tool first. Use it on yourself and eventually, when it fully makes sense and flows, use it with your clients. The third tool is learning to process and allow a feeling. Most people do one of two things with emotions: they either resist them, pushing them down, or they indulge them, getting stuck in them. But neither approach leads to healing. As a coach, you can teach your clients to identify what they're feeling, notice where they sense it in their body, and allow it without judgment. For example, when grief shows up as heaviness in the chest, you can guide your client to breathe through it, describe it, and simply notice it. When they do, within minutes, the intensity usually begins to fade. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us, cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. Processing emotions doesn't mean wallowing. It means experiencing them while releasing them to God. Clients learn that feelings aren't dangerous. They are signals that can be allowed, acknowledged, and surrendered to the Lord. Here's when to use this tool: anytime your client is feeling overwhelmed, dealing with loss, or feeling paralyzed by fear. It's especially crucial in grief coaching, stress relief coaching, and life transitions. The fourth tool is examining belief systems. Beliefs act like the operating system of our lives. Most of them are formed early, often through painful experiences. They can run silently in the background and dictate behavior without our clients even realizing it. As coaches, we listen for statements like, “I'm not good enough” or “things never work out for me.” Then we gently help clients examine them. Where did this belief come from? Is it really true? What would your life look like if you believed something different? Proverbs 23:7 says, as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. Beliefs are what we think in our hearts. And when a belief is a lie, it will keep producing destructive results. But when we replace lies with God's truth, lives change. A client who once believed, “I am worthless,” can learn to declare, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” And that's Psalm 139:14. Here's when to use this tool: anytime your client keeps hitting the same wall, self-sabotaging, or struggling with identity. This is deep, foundational work, and it's where some of the most profound breakthroughs happen. And finally, the fifth tool, which should really come as no surprise, is asking powerful questions. Unlike counseling or consulting, coaching is not about giving advice. Rather, it's about drawing out answers from within the client. That's why powerful, open-ended questions are a coach's sharpest tool. Instead of asking, “Did you try harder?” you might ask, “What do you think God wants to show you through this situation?” Or, “If you fully trusted His plan, what action would you take right now?” Proverbs 20:5 says, the purposes of a person's heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out. That's what powerful questions do. They draw out truth. And this is exactly how Jesus coached, through questions like “Who do you say I am?” or “Do you want to be healed?” Here's when to use this tool: throughout every coaching session. Questions are especially powerful when your client is stuck in old thinking, uncertain about a decision, or needs to see new possibilities. Send us a textIn this short episode, Kenny shares some thoughts from our stake conference. Our visiting area Seventy, Elder James N. Robinson, shared some profound insights with us during the Sunday morning session. Many walked away from that meeting with a whole new understanding of what it means when the scriptures tell us that God requires "a broken heart..." as an offering from us to Him. I hope Elder Robinson's insight is as meaningful for you as it was for me! -KennySupport the Show!Become a "PATRON SAINT"!
