In this recording we take a look at another type of vrtti that we experience and the one taken up by Patanjali in sutra 1.9 imagination or fanciful thinking. As with the others this can be both useful and a hindrance in this recording I talk to the nature of imagination in every day life but also in how it related to our yoga practice and applying vikalpa

Mentioned twice in Patanjali's yoga sutras, it's the second yama and without establishing ourselves in it we have little chance of achieving much on this journey.
Practice becomes firmly established when it has been cultivated uninterrupted with devotion over a prolonged period of time. This is Sutra 1.14 from Patanjali's yoga sutras.

Our Modern thinking tells us that we experience reality through the senses and the mind and yoga shifts the focus...instead believing that all matter exists so that our consciousness can experience it. We struggle and suffer (dukham) when we become overly attached to matter, we loose our connection to our consciousness and this becomes our standard operating mode in daily life. In this recording I present these basic principles so that we can build on them week to week.
This recording is for both teachers and students alike. Getting the most out of our yoga practice can be a challenge especially in group classes and with just a few key tools we can start improving our understanding and results.

For most of us we don't have an awareness of what state of mind we're in, in any given moment nor do we have any concept of how to shift the state of mind we're in what's contributed to that and how we might be able to start to shift some of these states.
What if I told you yoga isn't something we do!...but rather yoga is a feeling? Yoga philosophy presents us with a way of seeing our mind that is more than just understanding our superficial cognitive functioning. According to yoga we have different types of mind that we all possess and can function from.
We hear it in meditation classes all the time, we need to move beyond attachment and aversion. Develop more equanimity, because these two qualities are obstacles and will impact our ability to be truly happy. Many Buddhist teachings center around this principle of attachment and aversion and how as a practitioner we need to get savy at identifying when these two are in the drivers seat.
In this short recording I take the time to talk about the 3 qualities you want to develop as a yoga student and if you're a teacher the ways in which you need to support your students to finding their yoga practice.
Join me for a short chat on this beautiful practice we call yoga and why you would bother studying or reflecting on the yoga philosophy.
