As a pediatrician, I was not asking enough questions about my patients' periods. We ask when the last one was. We rarely go deeper than that. And after this conversation, I will never approach it the same way again. I sat down with my friend and colleague Dr. Natalie Crawford, reproductive endocrinologist, fertility specialist, and author of The Fertility Formula. Here is what I want every parent raising a girl to understand: the menstrual cycle is not just a monthly inconvenience. It is one of the most important windows into your daughter's hormonal health, her long-term fertility, and her overall wellbeing. And the symptoms we keep brushing off as "just puberty" or "just a bad period" are often the first clues to conditions that will matter deeply later in life. In this episode, we cover: Why the menstrual cycle is a vital sign and what that means for the girls in your life The warning signs parents and pediatricians too often dismiss as normal What a first period should actually look like, and when irregular cycles need to be taken seriously Hypothalamic amenorrhea: the condition linked to over-exercising, under-eating, and chronic stress that silently affects estrogen during some of the most critical years of development PCOS in teens: why it does not always look the way doctors expect, and why so many girls get missed Thyroid disease and how it shows up in the menstrual cycle before anything else Endometriosis in adolescents: when period pain is not normal and what to do about it Why birth control is sometimes the right treatment but not always the full answer How to advocate for your daughter when you feel dismissed at the doctor's office The referral path from pediatrician to OB to specialist, and when to push for more Connect with Dr. Natalie Crawford on Instagram @nataliecrawfordmd, visit her site https://www.nataliecrawfordmd.com/ and buy her new book: https://a.co/d/0byHPtzr Here is the revised list of 20 chapters, spaced out chronologically to cover the entire duration of the provided text for "Podcast Natalie Crawford Final.mp3.txt": 00:00:00 The Paternalistic History of Women's Health 00:01:19 Introducing Dr. Natalie Crawford & The Fertility Formula 00:02:56 The Stigma of Cycle Tracking and Menstrual Shame 00:04:53 Dr. Mona's Personal Battle with Secondary Infertility 00:06:00 Overcoming the Unknown and Paternalism in Medicine 00:08:11 Empowering Younger Women to Advocate for Their Bodies 00:10:27 Raising Children to Trust Their Physical Cues 00:11:32 Dr. Crawford's Personal Experience with Pregnancy Loss 00:13:13 Shifting Medical Research Toward Natural Fertility 00:16:33 Cultivating Fast Vulnerability in Doctor-Patient Bonds 00:18:15 The Ovarian Vault and the Biology of Puberty 00:20:25 The Brain-Ovary Dance: Follicular vs. Luteal Phases 00:21:59 Static on the Walkie-Talkie: Environmental Disruptors 00:23:40 Red Flags: School Refusal and Endometriosis Risk 00:26:03 Beyond the Basics: Upgrading Pediatric Screening Questions 00:30:11 Deep Dive into Hypothalamic Amenorrhea 00:33:14 The Metabolic Realities of Living with PCOS 00:41:43 The Diagnostic Criteria for PCOS and Clinical Workups 00:44:16 Thyroid Disease and Its Impact on Reproductive Hormones 00:48:15 Long-Term Health Risks Linked to Untreated Infertility Our podcasts are also now on YouTube. Fear isn't the opposite of growth. It's the gatekeeper of it. Every hesitation before a risk, every excuse before a hard conversation, every night spent worrying about what others think.. These are more than subtle character flaws. They're ancient circuits doing exactly what they were designed to do. The real question is whether you understand your fear well enough to stop letting it make your decisions for you. In this episode, we explore the neuroscience behind the threat response — why trauma reshapes the brain, how anxiety disorders illuminate something true about all of us, and what it actually means to rewire the patterns that keep you small. Understanding fear is not a detour from building a better mindset. It is the path. The four core fears that explain almost every way we self-sabotage Why the brain's fear circuitry becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy — and how to interrupt it The shift from reactive to regulated: what the science says actually works The brain that learned to fear can also learn to grow — this episode shows you where to start NEW SHOW - How to Change the World: The History and Future of Innovation Learn about the evolving story of the human species and our ideas told in chronological order. Key Takeaways: Plan With the End Goal in Mind: Strong financial planning starts with knowing your long-term goals. Tax and investment decisions should support the outcome you want in the future. Use Cost Segregation for Early Tax Savings: Cost segregation can speed up depreciation and create larger tax deductions earlier on, especially for investments you plan to hold for many years. Think Ahead Before Selling Assets: Decisions about bonus depreciation and other tax strategies should be considered when you expect to sell an asset, since timing can affect future taxes. Goodwill Has Real Value: A business's reputation, customer relationships, and brand value are important assets. Properly valuing goodwill can improve tax outcomes during a sale. The Type of Sale Matters: Selling business stock and selling business assets are taxed differently. Careful planning before a sale can help reduce taxes and protect profits. You've done the therapy. You've read the books. You've done the work — or at least you think you have. So why does the same relationship keep showing up with a different face? In this episode, Christopher and co-host Natalie Stavola sit down with energy healer Stefanie Truino to explore what traditional self-help can't reach: the energetic and subconscious layers driving your love life from underneath. They break down how emotional blockages get lodged in the body, why cord attachments to past partners keep you energetically tethered long after the relationship ends, and how tools like Reiki, astrology, and the Akashic Records can reveal the patterns you've been too close to see. This isn't woo. This is the part of the work most people skip — and why they stay stuck. Did you know that pelvic floor dysfunction can show up as hip pain, back pain, anxiety, constipation, painful intercourse, bladder issues, restricted movement and even breathing dysfunction? In this episode, we're diving into one of the most overlooked aspects of women's health: the pelvic floor. Many women assume pelvic floor issues only affect those who have had children, but the reality is that pelvic floor dysfunction can impact women at every stage of life. From birth injuries and surgery to chronic stress, hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause, prolonged sitting and even the way we breathe, there are countless factors that can influence pelvic floor health. Drawing on insights from the London Pilates Conference and leading pelvic health education, I explore why the pelvic floor is so much more than a group of muscles responsible for bladder control. You'll learn how the pelvic floor works as part of a whole-body system, influencing movement, posture, breathing, core function and overall wellbeing. If this episode resonates with you, please share it with the women in your life. It could be the information they never knew they needed. Welcome to episode #1038 of Thinking With Mitch Joel (formerly Six Pixels of Separation). At a time when technology feels simultaneously more powerful and more opaque than ever, Marcus Fontoura is making a case for something many people feel they've lost: agency. A Technical Fellow and Corporate Vice President at Microsoft, Marcus has spent decades helping build the infrastructure that powers the modern internet, including leadership roles at Microsoft Azure, Google and IBM. His new book, Human Agency In A Digital World, is both a guide to understanding the technologies shaping our lives and a reminder that we are not merely passengers along for the ride. Drawing on his experience building cloud computing platforms and large-scale digital systems, Marcus demystifies everything from search engines and social media to artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure, arguing that technological literacy should be as fundamental as understanding economics or government. In this episode, Marcus explores the growing gap between the people building technology and the people living with its consequences. He discusses social media's impact on mental health, misinformation, polarization, AI's role as a prediction engine rather than an autonomous intelligence, and the importance of regulation in areas where technological progress has outpaced public understanding. At the same time, Marcus offers a deeply optimistic vision of the future. He believes that access to information, computing power and AI tools can empower a new generation of scientists, entrepreneurs and problem-solvers to tackle challenges ranging from healthcare and education to climate change and scientific discovery. Rather than viewing technology as something happening to us, Marcus argues that understanding how these systems work is the first step toward shaping how they evolve. What emerges is a thoughtful conversation about curiosity, responsibility, innovation and the enduring role of human judgment in an increasingly digital world. Enjoy the conversation… Running time: 47:25. Hello from beautiful Montreal. Listen and subscribe over at Apple Podcasts. Listen and subscribe over at Spotify. Western civilization did not invent slavery — it ended it. Western civilization didn't harm countries through colonialism, it helped them. These are hard truths to swallow but they are true. So, why do so many people hate civilization? Let's define civilization, shall we? Let's look at the chief characteristics that a civilization must possess. We shall list them in this episode. Why are Israel and America singled out for hatred and not Sweden, France, and Germany? Why Reform Judaism is more socially acceptable. Any thug, either urban or international, is advantaged by willingness to use violence. In a robust civilized landscape, thugs lose their advantage — naturally, they hate civilization. While the podcast team is taking a Radical Sabbatical, Kim is interviewing authors of the books that have had a big impact on her in the past two years. In this episode, Kim speaks with Gary Gerstle, best-selling author of The Rise and Fall of the Neoliberal Order and ten other books. Kim said that after reading this book, she began to feel that when it comes to economic policy, we really have a one-party system. The architect of the New Deal Order was FDR, a Democrat, but its general contractor was Eisenhower, arguably the most progressive of all American presidents. The architect of the Neoliberal order was Reagan, but its general contractor was Clinton. Kim also said that reading this book made her realize that, time and again throughout her career, she thought she was working towards progressive ends, not understanding how neoliberalism had taken hold of the Democratic Party. Gerstle explains that “the phrase political order is meant to connote a constellation of ideologies, policies, and constituencies that shape American politics in ways that endure beyond the two-, four-, and six-year election cycles. In the last hundred years, America has had two political orders: the New Deal order that arose in the 1930s and 1940s, crested in the 1950s and 1960s, and fell in the 1970s; and the neoliberal order that arose in the 1970s and 1980s, crested in the 1990s and 2000s, and fell in the 2010s At the heart of each of these two political orders stood a distinctive program of political economy. The New Deal order was founded on the conviction that capitalism left to its own devices spelled economic disaster. It had to be managed by a strong central state able to govern the economic system in the public interest. The neoliberal order, by contrast, was grounded in the belief that market forces had to be liberated from government regulatory controls that were stymying growth, innovation, and freedom. The architects of the neoliberal order set out in the 1980s and 1990s to dismantle everything that the New Deal order had built across its forty-year span. Now it, too, is being dismantled. Alarmingly, there seems to be no coherent policy around whatever it is replacing the Neoliberal order–just a mad grab for wealth, leading to even greater disparities than those that led to the Gilded Age's excesses and to the Great Depression. Guest Background: Gary Gerstle is Paul Mellon Professor of American History Emeritus and Paul Mellon Director of Research at the University of Cambridge. He is the author and editor of more than ten books, including two prizewinners, American Crucible (2017) and Liberty and Coercion (2015). He is a Guardian columnist and has also written for the Atlantic Monthly, the New Statesman, Dissent, The Nation, and Die Zeit, among others. Send us Fan MailDiscover how awakening is an ongoing journey, not a destination. Learn key insights on Why Your Spiritual Practice Isn't Helping You and personal and collective growth from Blaise Kennedy's experience in this enlightening discussion. In the quest for spiritual awakening, many often assume it's a singular, transformative event—a moment where everything changes and you Awaken Fully . However Learn Whats Missing, as Blaise eloquently shares in this discussion, awakening is not a conclusion but a continuous journey filled with growth, challenges, and deeper understanding. In this blog post, we'll explore key insights from Blaise's experience, emphasizing that spirituality is an ever-evolving process that impacts not just the individual but the collective. The Myth of Completion in Spiritual AwakeningAwakening is often portrayed as the ultimate goal in spiritual practices. Blaise challenges this notion by emphasizing that what many perceive as the pinnacle of enlightenment is merely a starting point. The journey does not end with self-realization; instead, this realization opens the door to a deeper exploration of consciousness.- **Why This Matters:** Understanding that awakening is ongoing helps to cultivate patience and resilience in our spiritual journeys. - **Common Mistake:** Assuming that once you reach a certain level of enlightenment, your spiritual work is complete. The Dynamic Nature of SpiritualityBlaise highlights that spirituality is not static; it is the movement of the universe itself. He shares that his journey has been characterized by continuous growth and transformation, emphasizing that our experiences and challenges are integral parts of this process.- **Key Insight:** Spirituality reflects the ever-changing dynamics of the universe, and as such, it requires us to adapt and evolve continuously.- **Example from Blaise's Journey:** Blaise recounts how he initially sought to replicate the paths of his teachers but soon realized that each individual's journey is unique, necessitating a personalized approach to spiritual growth. Understanding Trauma and Its Impact on GrowthA significant aspect of Blaise's journey revolves around understanding the effects of trauma—not just personal but collective. He emphasizes that many behaviors and challenges in life stem from unresolved trauma, impacting both individual and collective consciousness.- **Key Insight:** Our individual healing contributes to the healing of our ancestors and the collective consciousness. As we heal, we help to mend the wounds of those who came before us.- **Example from Blaise's Experience:** He illustrates how his physical ailments were not merely personal but resonated with the collective pain of his ancestors, underscoring the interconnectedness of all experiences.

With refugee resettlement effectively closed and mass deportation instituted throughout the country, it's immigrant families that are getting the brunt of these policies. In this episode, Brandon Stiver interviews Matthew Soerens from World Relief about US immigration policies, refugee resettlement, family separation, and biblical perspectives on immigration. They explore the impact of current policies, stories of affected families, and how the church can respond biblically and practically. Meaningful success rarely works that way.In this episode, we'll unpack why many people stay stuck waiting for certainty, and how putting direction over perfection creates forward momentum. We also introduce the Direction Over Decision framework to help BIGG Goal-Getters move from paralysis into progress.BIGG Takeaways:Graduation ceremonies create a magical moment, but they often bring overwhelming pressure afterwards.Every transition can feel like graduation, where uncertainty meets societal expectations for certainty. The biggest cultural lie is that you should have your life figured out by now, which is damaging.Instead of seeking a perfect decision, focus on the direction you're willing to explore next. Many successful people didn't have a perfect plan; they took steps before feeling ready.Life is not a straight line, and most decisions are not permanent; they are directional choices.BIGG Chapters[00:14] Graduation Ceremonies and Their Significance[01:24] The Reality of Life After Graduation[03:38] The Paradox of Choice and Its Impact on Graduates[05:28] Choosing a Direction Over Making Decisions[07:05] Navigating Uncertainty in Career Choices[09:00] Taking Meaningful Steps Towards SuccessLinks referenced in this episode:BIGGsuccess.comLife MapOODA LoopsJoin our newsletter

While the podcast team is taking a Radical Sabbatical, Kim is interviewing authors of the books that have had a big impact on her in the past two years. In this episode, she's speaking with Luke Burgis about his new book, The One and the Ninety-Nine, Forging Identity in the Age of Social Contagion. Through stories ranging from the parable of the lost sheep to August Landmesser, the only person in a huge crowd to refuse to salute to Hitler, Luke describes the missing skill that makes real community possible: learning how to remain oneself while staying connected to others. He offers practical, tactical advice for how to recognize false belonging, escape coercive dynamics, and pass through the rites of passage that produce people with integrity and courage. This is a book that will help you figure out what YOU want, so that you can go get it rather than being distracted by what others want. Guest Background: Luke Burgis is the director of The Cluny Institute and a professor at The Catholic University of America, where he studies the invisible forces that shape human behavior. He is the author of Wanting: The Power of Mimetic Desire in Everyday Life. He lives in Washington, D.C., and Michigan with his wife, Claire, and their children. What if the key to thriving in today's fast-paced world has been around for thousands of years? In this episode of The Greatness Machine, Darius Mirshahzadeh connects with ninth-generation doctor of Eastern medicine Dr. Jenelle Kim to explore the ancient principles behind modern wellness, longevity, and true inner balance. Dr. Jenelle shares the deeply personal story behind her book, “The Korean Art of Living Well: The Eight Keys of Living Meditation for Balance and Transformation,” a work inspired by her lineage and her father's legacy. Rooted in 10,000-year-old Daoist traditions, she introduces the three pillars of optimal living: medicine, movement, and mindset. The conversation dives into how modern life creates stagnation, mentally, physically, and spiritually, and how simple practices like breathwork, grounding, and even laughter can restore flow. Dr. Jenelle explains that true wellness comes down to function and flow, and that imbalance begins when we become stuck in our thoughts.
