Many people misread this passage as Jesus opposing the Law of Moses, but as you’ll hear today, Christ wasn't criticizing the law—He was explaining it more deeply. This message unpacks … Continue reading "A Deeper Understanding of God's Law"

In this thought-provoking episode of "Father and Joe," hosts Father Boniface and Joe Rockey delve into the power of reading the Bible in sequence, particularly examining the profound teachings of Jesus through the lens of the Sermon on the Mount. Joe discusses his experience of reading the Bible in order, highlighting how the text often folds back on itself, reinforcing themes that resonate deeply with readers by connecting seemingly disparate teachings into a cohesive narrative.Using Matthew as an example, Joe describes how the Sermon on the Mount extends beyond the Beatitudes, presenting a comprehensive discourse that invites reflection on human nature, societal norms, and intrinsic motivations. By reading these scriptures in their entirety, Joe finds fresh relevance in old teachings and learns the art of delivering powerful messages, drawing parallels to his own experiences on stage as a speaker.Father Boniface offers insights into Jesus' historical and cultural context, emphasizing the importance of understanding scripture both as divinely inspired text and powerful rhetoric. He supports Joe's interpretative journey, validating the approach of reading with faith rather than skepticism, and applying lessons from scripture to everyday life as well as professional relationships.Together, they reflect on the potential personal growth in embracing scripture with openness, noting the inspiration derived from Christ's strategic communication and progressive ministry. Highlighting stories such as the raising of Lazarus, they discuss how contextual understanding of these narratives can bring new illumination.Throughout the conversation, they unpack the importance of viewing Biblical events within their broader scriptural setting, drawing connections between personal experiences and spiritual teachings. This balance allows listeners to rediscover the richness of biblical messages and encourages them to build a profound relationship with spirituality.Join Father Boniface and Joe Rockey in this enlightening episode to explore how contextual reading of the Bible isn't just about understanding divine instructions but is also a journey towards personal transformation and reclaiming faith in a world desperate for spiritual connection.Sermon on the Mount, Bible Study, Biblical Context, Faith Journey, Spiritual Growth, Jesus Teachings, Divine Inspiration, Scripture Analysis, Contextual Reading, Personal Revelation, Sermon Insights, Gospel Sermons, Spiritual Reflection, Faith Discussion, Christian Teachings, Theology Study, Deeper Understanding, Relationship with God, Spiritual Direction, Biblical Narratives, Historical Jesus, Faith Exploration, Scripture Wisdom, Spiritual Lessons, Jesus' Ministry, Catholic Perspective, Sermon Breakdown, Gospel Readings, Divine Faith, Sermon Interpretation, Spiritual Guidance, Personal Transformation, Bible in Context, Divine Message, Sermons of Jesus, Faith Application, Gospel Context, Scriptural Interpretation, Faith and Life, Sermon Engagement#SermonOnTheMount, #BibleStudy, #FaithJourney, #JesusTeachings, #SpiritualGrowth, #DivineInspiration, #ScriptureAnalysis, #ContextualReading, #SpiritualReflection, #GospelSermons, #FaithDiscussion, #ChristianTeachings, #TheologyStudy, #UnderstandingScripture, #RelationshipWithGod, #SpiritualDirection, #BiblicalNarratives, #HistoricalJesus, #FaithExploration, #ScriptureWisdom, #SpiritualLessons, #JesusMinistry, #CatholicPerspective, #SermonBreakdown, #GospelReadings, #DivineFaith, #SermonInterpretation, #SpiritualGuidance, #PersonalTransformation, #BibleInContext, #DivineMessage, #FaithApplication, #GospelContext, #SpiritualJourney, #SermonEngagement, #FaithAndLife, #FatherAndJoe, #ChristianFaith, #SpiritualEnlightenment
Simon Sinek says that a lot of organizations can talk about what they do and how they do it. But he says, “Very few organizations know why they do what they do.” And it's the ‘why' that is the most important. In this episode, we're taking this lesson and more from Simon Sinek with the help of our special guest, Guru Sundar.Together, we talk about finding your ‘why', looking for inspiration in unexpected places, and timing your content so it feels fresh. About our guest, Guru SundarGuru Sundar is VP of Marketing at Abridge, a leader in generative AI for healthcare. Guru has been with the company since September 2023. He previously served as VP of Marketing at Looking Glass Factory and Butterfly Network. Guru holds a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University and an MSc in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Simon Sinek:Find your ‘why'. Figure out the reason your work is important and use that in your content. Guru says, ”Every company should have a ‘why' that's rooted in a large problem. And it may be broken into a subset of problems that you tackle over time, but like really focus on that ‘why.'”Look for inspiration in unusual places. Inspiration for your content can come from unexpected places. Guru says, ”Drawing inspiration from outside is culturally ingrained in how we do what we do at Abridge, because if you look at who's next to you, you're not going to innovate. But if you look way far out and break down like, ‘Oh, that brand or that person is having similar challenges, but they're making t-shirts, but I can draw some inspiration from them,' or like ‘That person over there is making music, or they're making some form of art that no one's ever seen before.'”Time your delivery so content stays fresh. Finesse is everything when delivering content to your audience. Guru says, ”No one likes fatigue. And so you have to keep fatigue, freshness, innovation in mind as you're generating these pieces of content. You could have like four or five different content streams. And people need to hear things multiple times, but they don't need to hear it seven times in a row. A lot of the content is developing the right things for your audience that are innately interesting. If you just ask someone, ‘Hey, is this interesting? Is this useful?' They say yes. But then serving it at the right frequency, at the right time, in the right form factor and package, is what I think differentiates okay marketers from incredible marketers.”Quotes*”Drawing inspiration from outside is culturally ingrained in how we do what we do at Abridge, because if you look at who's next to you, you're not going to innovate. It's like amazing content that resonates with your audience, you know, your buyer, your end user, and then you have to serve it on all the right channels with the right frequency, usage, et cetera, like cut it up the right way. But content is everything. So it's like, what is it that's going to inspire your buyers? What is it that's going to inspire your end users? And it's keeping it provocative.”*”No one likes fatigue. If you don't believe in the content, don't serve the content. And I think a lot of people in marketing just check the box. ‘We need to do emails. We need to do ads. We need to do a white paper,' but like, why are you doing it? And then assess like, ‘Did this work? Did this not work?' And use that as impetus to drive the next thing. But you have to really believe in your content. And I think a lot of people are very tactical and that's where I think it falls flat.“*”The way we operate at Abridge is like you almost have this mentality that this is the last time you're ever gonna create a piece of content. So make it last, make it meaningful. At some point, you gotta pull back and appreciate everything you've done. Take stock of it. But in the moment, like, don't look back. Don't look too far forward. Focus on today and crush it. And when you think about content that way, it's like, ‘I'm going to really focus on this piece of content. I don't really care what we've done in the past. I don't care what we're going to do in the future. What's the connection between Shema and Teruma? Our Sages tell us that one fiftieth is the average tithe that a farmer should give to the kohen from his grain and produce. The Vilna Gaon explains that the word 'terumah' is an allusion to 'trei m'meah', meaning two out of one hundred, which is one fiftieth. But if the word ‘teruma' is hinting at a fiftieth, why use a word that hints to two parts in a hundred? In 1972, Rabbi Yaakov Asher Sinclair opened SARM Studios the first 24-track recording studio in Europe where Queen mixed “Bohemian Rhapsody”. His music publishing company, Druidcrest Music published the music for The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1973) and as a record producer, he co-produced the quadruple-platinum debut album by American band “Foreigner” (1976). American Top ten singles from this album included, “Feels Like The First Time”, “Cold as Ice” and “Long, Long Way from Home”. Other production work included “The Enid – In the Region of the Summer Stars”, “The Curves”, and “Nutz” as well as singles based on The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy with Douglas Adams and Richard O'Brien. Other artists who used SARM included: ABC, Alison Moyet, Art of Noise, Brian May, The Buggles, The Clash, Dina Carroll, Dollar, Flintlock, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Grace Jones, It Bites, Malcolm McLaren, Nik Kershaw, Propaganda, Rush, Rik Mayall, Stephen Duffy, and Yes. In 1987, he settled in Jerusalem to immerse himself in the study of Torah. His two Torah books The Color of Heaven, on the weekly Torah portion, and Seasons of the Moon met with great critical acclaim. Seasons of the Moon, a unique fine-art black-and-white photography book combining poetry and Torah essays, has now sold out and is much sought as a collector's item fetching up to $250 for a mint copy. He is much in demand as an inspirational speaker both in Israel, Great Britain and the United States. He was Plenary Keynote Speaker at the Agudas Yisrael Convention, and Keynote Speaker at Project Inspire in 2018. Rabbi Sinclair lectures in Talmud and Jewish Philosophy at Ohr Somayach/Tannenbaum College of Judaic studies in Jerusalem and is a senior staff writer of the Torah internet publications Ohrnet and Torah Weekly. His articles have been published in The Jewish Observer, American Jewish Spirit, AJOP Newsletter, Zurich's Die Jüdische Zeitung, South African Jewish Report and many others. Rabbi Sinclair was born in London, and lives with his family in Jerusalem. He was educated at St. Anthony's Preparatory School in Hampstead, Clifton College, and Bristol University. SHOW NOTES: On this show…we're diving into the art of seeing both sides of the coin. Have you ever been so convinced you're right about something, only to later realize you were missing an entire side of the story? It happens to all of us! We get comfortable in our own experiences, opinions, and beliefs, seeing the world through a lens shaped by our past. But what if we took a step back and considered another perspective—one that challenges our assumptions, expands our thinking, and maybe even changes the way we see the world? Today, we're exploring the power of looking at both sides of the coin, recognizing that understanding isn't just about what we know but also about what we're willing to learn. Imagine standing in a hallway lined with doors. Each one represents a different perspective, a new way of seeing the same issue. The more doors you open, the more complete your understanding becomes. But if you only stand at one door, insisting that what you see is all there is, you miss out on the full picture. Learning to explore different viewpoints isn't about giving up your own beliefs—it's about strengthening them by exposing them to new information. It's about building bridges instead of walls, seeking connection over conflict, and embracing curiosity over certainty. So, let's dive in, open our minds, and discover how seeing both sides of the story can lead to a deeper, more meaningful understanding of the world around us. To kick things off, let's clarify what it means to see both sides. It's about being open-minded, empathetic, and willing to consider perspectives beyond our own. In this episode, Michael Krasny sought answers to what we need to know—and still don't know—about what many are convinced might be our next pandemic. Leading health and environmental journalist Lisa Krieger provided an immense amount of important information about avian flu (H5N1), discussing what humans need to be most concerned about and how it affects different animals, as well as vaccines, surveillance, what to avoid, and routes of transmission.A listener asked Krieger what she, one of the nation's best and most awarded science writers, believes is the most underreported health or science story. This allowed Krieger to share her opinion and shed light on scientific progress, as well as questions surrounding the human genome project, health policy, and affordability.Another listener raised questions about the CDC's prioritization of the norovirus, followed by Krasny questioning Krieger on the fires in Southern California and COVID—including new variants, vaccines, and long COVID. The discussion concluded as a listener inquired about AI and healthcare, and Krasny asked Krieger about the new HIV drug and her perspective on the ongoing battle with climate change.Throughout this wide-ranging conversation, Krieger's expertise illuminated complex scientific and environmental challenges facing our society today. Her insights offered valuable perspective on how these various health and environmental issues interconnect, and what steps we might take to address them effectively.

For our final show of 2024, we are bringing you a conversation we recorded a couple weeks ago with the Cook Political Report's David Wasserman and the two pollsters who collaborated with the our team on 2024 Swing State Project. We started the project in the spring of 2024 in order to get a deeper understanding of the issues, concerns, and priorities of voters in the seven key battleground states. We teamed up with two amazing pollsters, Patrick Toomey, partner at the Democratic firm BSG, and Greg Strimple, president of GS Strategy Group, a Republican polling company. What we really loved about working with Greg and Patrick and their teams is that these are campaign pollsters. They understand the dynamics involved, not just in what voters are saying, but also how candidates and campaigns would respond to them.We conducted three surveys with Greg and Patrick, one in May, one in August, right after Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden on the top of the ticket, and a final one in September. You can find all of those at here along with our analysis. The one consistent theme we saw throughout those three polls was that voters' concern about the state of the economy and inflation dominated even as events like Biden's last minute dropping out and an assassination attempt on Trump roiled the campaign. So Amy started this conversation with Dave, Greg, and Patrick by asking: even though Kamala Harris was able to narrow the gap on economic issues from where Joe Biden stood earlier in the year, in the end, was this simply it's an economy stupid election? **We're excited that we'll be back in 2025 with a brand new season. Our guests will include people who live and breathe politics - like us! - and plenty who do not. We'll be back soon in the New Year, but for now, enjoy our final show of 2024.**
