Many people assume separation means the marriage is over, but what if separation isn't always about ending the relationship? What happens when a lifelong emergency physician steps back from clinical practice and dedicates himself to helping other doctors navigate the impossible job of medicine? In Part 1 of a two-part episode, Dr. Rob Orman joins Dr. Andrea Austin to share his remarkable path, from documenting mass casualty events to becoming a technical advisor for the hit HBO series The Pit, and ultimately building a coaching practice that helps physicians create meaningful change in their behavior and careers. Rob also opens up about his own career struggles and the deep fulfillment he finds in one-on-one behavioral coaching. They discussed: How documenting mass casualty events led to advising on The Pit The career shift from full-time clinician and educator to physician coach Why “not everyone thinks like you do”, and the power of cognitive empathy Building awareness and creating the pause between stimulus and response Behavioral coaching for physicians on performance plans or struggling with reactivity The role of storytelling and art in driving healthcare change Lessons from burnout, skill decay, and career transitions
Downsizing is rarely about the stuff. For many women, it's about deciding what still fits, what no longer serves them, and how to create space for the life they want next. Professional organizer and author Donna Barwald joins Agnes to talk about decluttering, moving, family treasures, storage units, memories, and why your home should reflect who you are today—not who you used to be. In This Episode: Why downsizing is really about lifestyle, not possessions The emotional side of letting go What to do when your children don't want your treasures How clutter affects stress, focus, and decision-making Simple ways to start decluttering today Creating a home that supports your next chapter Sometimes creating space isn't about having less—it's about making room for more of what matters now. In this solo episode of Referrals Done Right, Scott explores a simple idea that has the power to change everything. Success is not created by finding more time. It is created by intentionally making space. In a world filled with constant notifications, endless commitments, and nonstop distractions, many people keep telling themselves they will focus on what matters most when things finally calm down. The problem is that moment rarely arrives. Scott challenges listeners to stop waiting for more time and start creating the margin necessary for clarity, purpose, and better decision making todayThroughout the episode, Scott introduces the concept of "the space between" and explains why some of life's most important breakthroughs happen during moments of reflection rather than constant activity. He shares how his own perspective on productivity has evolved over the years and why creating space is essential for personal growth, stronger relationships, and long term success. This episode is a powerful reminder that many of the answers we are searching for are already within us. We simply need enough quiet to hear them. You Will Learn:• Why waiting for life to calm down often leads to missed opportunities• How creating space improves clarity, decision making, and self awareness• The difference between being productive and being intentional• Why subtraction is often more powerful than addition when creating change• A practical exercise to help identify what deserves more and less attention in your life---Scott Grates' Links:Referrals Done Right - https://www.referralsdoneright.orgReferrals Done Right FB Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/296359076662332Scott Grates Website - https://www.scottgrates.comLove Living Local - https://www.instagram.com/lovelivinglocal315Scott's FB - https://www.facebook.com/scott.grates.1Scott's - https://www.instagram.com/scottgratesTikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@scott.grates
Like many online teachers, Akari was teaching 1:1 lessons through a platform and getting totally burned out. She had created a solid foundation for her business, but needed a change. When she discovered the idea of teaching through voice chats, she didn't hesitate. She tried it out with a new student and it was a great experience for both of them. Now her students are getting better results, and she prefers giving feedback asynchronously. She has a reasonable schedule and more time to spend on her hobbies, writing, and podcast. Whether you live in a massive metropolis or a tiny town- the places to gather and dance might dwindle over time. Or it could be that they're simply be non-existent from the jump. Those DIY prone might be driven to carve out space, and by proxy change culture. But just what does it take to create something from seemingly nothing?I'm joined by Gage Spex, co-collaborator of The Spectrum and Dreamhouse; experimental and queer spaces that have fundamentally altered NYC arts and music scenes. As havens for expression and exploration- they pushed boundaries, dramatically impacting people personally and society at large. Tommy Thompson brings back one of the earliest and most beloved episodes from Space for Life, a conversation with his brother and 40-year business partner, Litt Thompson. After a business crisis in the early 1990s pushed Litt to his breaking point, one desperate morning spent alone in a university library set him on a path he has been following for over 25 years. In this episode, Litt shares his five-part formula for carving out intentional time to think deeply about your life, and why he believes it is the second greatest secret to life next to knowing Christ. What You'll Hear in This Episode:The early 1990s savings and loan crisis that pushed Litt and Tommy to the edge of burnout, invisibly and simultaneously. The morning Litt spent alone in a university library with nothing but a legal pad and a pen, and why it became the most productive day of his career. How writing one focused question at the top of a page and going deep unlocks a level of creativity you cannot access in the middle of your normal day.Why so many of our stressors are fears in disguise, and how creating space helps you tell the difference.Litt's five-part formula for intentional solitude, including why place, time, and removing distractions all work together. Why this practice applies to everyone in every stage of life, not just entrepreneurs and leaders.Timestamps:(0:00) Intro(1:25) Tommy introduces Litt Thompson(3:20) The 1989 business storm(5:20) Litt's first day off the freeway(9:37) Legal pad and the blank slate(15:33) From crisis tool to life practice(21:15) Litt's five-part formula(29:18) This applies to everyoneLove the show? In this episode, I sit down with Alison Jamison — coach for women physicians and certified Fair Play facilitator — to talk about the invisible labor that quietly fuels resentment at home and at work. Empty space is not wasted time. It is where the biggest ideas are built. In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, Paul Alex breaks down why strategic silence is one of the most profitable tools a founder can use. Let's be real… If your calendar is packed from morning to night… If every gap is filled with calls, emails, meetings, and noise… You are not scaling. You are surviving. In this episode, you'll learn: Why constant busyness destroys high-level strategy How empty space creates room for better thinking and better decisions Why CEOs need altitude, not just activity How silence, boredom, and reflection unlock massive breakthroughs The truth is simple: You cannot see the whole machine if you are buried inside of it. Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do is step away. No phone. No noise. No distractions. Just space to think. That is where the real leverage appears. The next offer. The next system. The next hire. The next move that changes everything. Most people are afraid of the void because it feels unproductive. But high-level operators understand this: Strategic silence is a weapon. Clear the schedule. Find your altitude. Do the deep thinking. And direct the business with sharper vision than ever. Your Network is your NETWORTH! This one was recorded on a window ledge at the Millcroft Inn, still wrapped in the softest robe, fresh off my second annual Creating Space retreat with eight incredible physician humans. The theme that kept surfacing all weekend? Being selfish: the word we were all using to explain why we couldn't possibly take up space, rest, or honor what we actually want.In this episode, I dig into where "selfish" actually comes from (spoiler: 17th-century Scottish Presbyterians, and yes, it's exactly as patriarchal as it sounds) and why every choice we make is technically selfish… even people-pleasing.So if we're all being selfish anyway, the real question is: which kind do you want to practice?Learn more about Hippocratic Collective: https://hippocraticcollective.org/Connect on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joanchanmd
After getting sober in her twenties, Breezy Nowlan found herself navigating the often-complicated world of recovery housing. That experience led her to create Taste Recovery, a platform that helps people find safe and supportive sober living options across the United States. But as the platform grew, something still felt missing. In this episode of Rooted, Breezy shares the question from her father that changed the course of her work: What do you love to do? The answer led her outdoors and eventually inspired Camp Sober Fest—a unique recovery community experience that combines camp activities, connection, personal growth, and belonging. Together, we explore the role of community in recovery, why environment matters, what happens when people feel safe enough to be themselves, and the courage it takes to create something that doesn't yet exist. While nature isn't the central focus of this conversation, it quietly supports the experiences Breezy has created—offering space for connection, play, challenge, and transformation. In this episode, you'll hear: How Taste Recovery began from Breezy's own recovery journey What sober living is and why it matters The story behind Camp Sober Fest Why belonging is such an important part of healing How play, challenge, and shared experiences build connection The simple question that helped Breezy discover her purpose Connect with Breezy Nowlan Taste Recovery: https://www.tasterecovery.com Camp Sober Fest: https://www.campsoberfest.com Instagram: @taste.recovery Connect with Rooted Website: www.rootedsoulliving.com Instagram: @susanmorganbailey If you enjoyed this conversation, please follow, rate, and review Rooted. Focus isn't something you force. It's something you create space for. In this episode, I'm sitting down with Tracy Hoth to talk about why so many smart, capable women feel mentally scattered… and how organization can actually help us reclaim our attention, energy, and peace. And this conversation goes way deeper than bins and labels. We talk about: the connection between clutter and mental load why physical environments impact focus and overstimulation the identity stories that keep people feeling “messy” or disorganized how delayed decisions create clutter in both our homes and our minds why organizing starts with removing—not containing how to create systems that actually work in real life and how small maintenance rituals can completely change your home and routines over time Tracy also walks us through her five-step SPACE method for organizing everything from physical spaces to calendars, digital clutter, and even our thoughts. One of my favorite parts of this conversation is the reminder that organization isn't about perfection—it's about creating enough space to focus on what actually matters. And honestly? This episode feels like a deep exhale for anyone carrying too much mental load right now. What does it really cost to follow Jesus? And what does it cost us when we don't?In this powerful conversation, Steve Adams welcomes Morgan Snyder to the Embracing Brokenness Podcast for a deep and honest discussion about discipleship, formation, healing, risk, and the slow work of becoming whole in Christ.Morgan reflects on his 26 years in formal relationship with Wild at Heart, his transition with his wife Cherie into the Become Good Soil movement, and the deeper work of apprenticeship to Jesus in the second half of life. He shares why he and Cherie are now focused on “going deeper with fewer,” investing in the thirsty few who long for more of God and the abundant life.Together, Steve and Morgan explore the danger of consumer Christianity, the difference between information and formation, the invitation to become wholehearted men and women, and why brokenness is not the end of the story but often the beginning of deeper restoration. This episode is for anyone who feels stuck, spiritually dry, overextended, or aware that simply “believing the right things” has not produced the healing, maturity, intimacy, and purpose they long for. Morgan reminds us that God is not far away. He meets us at the end of our rope, in our need, in our pain, and in the ordinary moments where we create space to notice His voice.Learn more about Morgan and Cherie Snyder's work at Become Good Soil:https://becomegoodsoil.comLearn more about Embracing Brokenness Ministries:https://embracingbrokenness.orgChapters00:00 — God Meets Us at the End of Our Rope01:00 — Welcome to the Embracing Brokenness Podcast01:32 — Introducing Morgan Snyder02:14 — Morgan's History with John Eldredge and Wild at Heart03:34 — Becoming Good Soil and Going Deeper with Fewer04:55 — Husband and Wife Ministry in the Second Half of Life05:45 — Don't Waste Your Pain07:01 — Preferring a Circle Over a Platform08:00 — The Hidden Years and Carrying Water09:11 — Steve's First Wild at Heart Retreat11:08 — Trusting the Slow Work of God12:33 — The Interior Work of Becoming Whole14:23 — We Are All Being Discipled by Something16:21 — Leaving Platform, Salary, and Momentum17:45 — Brokenness, Anesthesia, and the Fire in the House21:22 — The Cost of Not Following Jesus22:36 — Sabbath as Resistance23:48 — God as the Father Who Initiates Our Children24:56 — Why Embrace Brokenness?27:16 — Living Where God Has to Show Up29:16 — Becoming the Kind of Person God Can Entrust30:25 — Risk at the Core of Discipleship31:05 — Prison Ministry and Holy Ground34:11 — What Is Burdening Morgan's Heart?35:48 — Dallas Willard and the Discipleship Crisis37:40 — Power, Service, and the Vulnerable39:52 — The Incomplete Gospel41:57 — Consumer Christianity and Hyper-Individualism43:53 — Information Is Not Enough45:22 — What If God Feels Distant?46:31 — How Do I Find God?47:31 — Creating Space to Notice God48:37 — The Gift of Margin49:35 — Micro-Shifts That Change a Life50:31 — Start with What Is Necessary51:08 — Becoming a King and Practical Resources52:02 — Become Good Soil and the Thirsty Few53:28 — Participating in the Restoration of All Things54:05 — Closing Thoughts

Creating space in your life is about making room for what matters most. This guide explores evaluating how you spend your time, identifying what no longer serves you, and making intentional choices about what to keep and what to release. Space is not emptiness—it is potential. The quiet moment is where you discover what you truly want to make room for. In the stillness, you can hear what your life is asking for.

Host: Steve Macchia Guest: Suz Skinner, Matt Scott "Soul care begins by creating space to listen." - Steve Macchia If you feel spiritually weary, distracted, or hungry for deeper intimacy with God, this episode offers a gentle invitation to create space for the One who refreshes our souls. Steve Macchia is joined by Suz Skinner and Matt Scott for a rich conversation about creating space to be with God and how that space nourishes the soul. Together they explore the many ways God meets us—in prayer closets and art studios, through journaling and gratitude, in silence, Scripture, creativity, nature, and the ordinary rhythms of daily life. This conversation invites listeners to slow down, pay attention, and rediscover that soul care is less about perfect practices and more about relational presence with God. We've provided a 3 page Soul Care Audit that will offer you a handful of questions to consider how well you're caring for your soul. You can download the PDF here and spend some time prayerfully reflecting on your current rhythms and practices. There's a moment that most of us miss. It happens in a split second, right before the outburst or the shutdown, before the spiral or the silence, before you say the thing you wish you hadn't or withdraw in the way you always do. It's the space between what triggers you and how you respond. And learning to find that space, and to use it intentionally, is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself. In this episode, part nine of the Cognitive Freedom Method™ series, I'm teaching one of the most important skills inside this work: how to train your mind to pause between trigger and response, and how to use that pause to make intentional choices rather than automatic ones. Because here's what I know after decades of working with people: the untrained mind doesn't pause. It reacts immediately and automatically, from old patterns and old wounds, and it will keep doing that until you train it to do something different. That training is possible, and this episode walks you through exactly how. Inside this conversation, I walk you through: Why most reactions happen automatically and what's actually driving them The trigger response cycle and how it unfolds in a split second Why the pause between trigger and response is an active skill, not a passive one A three-step process to notice, name, and consciously choose your response How Dr. Shyamala personally works this process in her own relationships Why creating space between trigger and response is what puts you back in the driver's seat of your life _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Shyamala Kiru is a former psychotherapist of 20 years and the founder of Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic and the Cognitive Freedom Method™. Through her work in leadership development, practitioner training, and clinical practice (now retired), she teaches a structured framework for understanding and transforming the cognitive patterns that shape how we think, lead, and relate.

While the podcast team is taking a Radical Sabbatical, Kim is interviewing authors of the books that have had a big impact on her in the past two years. In this episode, she's speaking with Daniel Coyle about his new book, Flourish, The Art of Building Meaning, Joy and Fulfillment. What is a meaningful life, and how do we make one? How do certain communities foster closeness, fulfillment, happiness, and energy? Daniel Coyle has spent the last few years trying to crack this code. He talks about the transformation that happened during the famous story of the 33 miners trapped 2000 feet underground in a mine in Chile. It turns that the key to survival was a leader who was willing to let go of control. You can't command and control your way to flourishing--or surviving in a crisis. Background on Daniel Coyle: Daniel is the New York Times bestselling author of The Culture Code, which was named Best Business Book of the Year by Bloomberg, BookPal, and Business Insider. Coyle has served as an advisor to many high-performing organizations, including the Navy SEALs, Microsoft, Google, and the Cleveland Guardians. His other books include The Talent Code, The Secret Race, The Little Book of Talent, and Hardball: A Season in the Projects, which was made into a movie starring Keanu Reeves. In this episode, I dive into the common hesitations that keep us from doing the deep emotional work. Using the analogy of delaying a doctor's visit, I explore why we wait until a crisis point to seek help and how that avoidance creates a “challenge magnet” in our lives. I also challenge the fear of being overwhelmed by emotions, offering a powerful perspective on how to create the capacity for success. The Doctor Analogy: Why we procrastinate seeking support for both physical and emotional pain because we fear the diagnosis and the changes it might require. The Challenge Magnet: Understanding how your body and environment send messages through recurring issues when you aren't ready to listen.Fear of Capacity: Addressing the Fear Number Two from my book: “What if I don't have the capacity to hold what comes up?”.Creating Space vs. Finding Time: Why there is never a perfect time to start emotional work and how choosing to do it shifts the compound effect in your favour. The Magic of Release: Real-life stories of how processing emotions leads to unexpected opportunities in career, money, and relationships.A Message from the Universe: A grounding reminder that you won't be sent anything you aren't ready to handle. What if the reason you still feel off… isn't because you're not trying hard enough, but because the advice you're following was never designed for your body? In this episode of The Balance Theory, Erika sits down with Iman Hasan to unpack one of the most frustrating experiences so many women face: doing everything “right” when it comes to health - eating clean, trying fasting, investing in supplements and still not feeling better. This conversation challenges the idea that more discipline or stricter habits are the answer. Instead, it explores what's actually happening beneath the surface, from chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation to why your body might not be absorbing the nutrients you're giving it. If you've ever felt like your body isn't responding the way it “should”… this episode will help you understand why and what to focus on instead. What We Cover: * Why fasting doesn't work the same for every woman and when it can actually make things worse * The hidden impact of stress and being in a constant fight-or-flight state * Why your body might not be absorbing nutrients (even if you're eating well) * The truth about “healthy eating” and why food quality isn't what it used to be * Why supplements alone won't fix the root issue * The importance of cell health and what it actually means * How to approach your health in a way that works with your body, not against it * Simple, overlooked shifts that can make a real difference day-to-day You're not doing it wrong, but your body might be under more stress than you realise. And until your body feels safe, no amount of “healthy habits” will work the way you expect them to. SPONSORS:

What if working harder is actually holding you back from creating your biggest impact as a leader? Most of us were taught that grinding, hustling, and saying "yes" to everything is how we elevate our leadership. But what if I told you that's the trap? So many leaders, maybe even you, feel pulled to give more, do more, be more, hoping it's a fast-track to greater results. But what if the breakthrough you're craving comes from letting go of chasing quantity over quality, wearing busyness like a badge, and believing your wellbeing is negotiable? When you start to honor your unique strengths, draw clear boundaries around your energy, and invest in your balance, everything changes. Your impact expands. Your confidence grows. You lead, not from depletion, but from deep conviction and presence, and people can feel it. Imagine trading exhaustion and overwhelm for clarity, energy, and influence that ripples through your team and your life. That shift is more than possible. It's yours when you choose it. My guest, Mike Miles, and I get to the heart of why real leadership impact isn't about doing more. It's about changing how you do it and honoring the incredible human inside the leader. This episode is your nudge to step off the hamster wheel and courageously embrace your full humanity as the source of your greatest power. The moment you put these insights into practice, you'll start to notice the tension ease, your creativity spark, and your sense of purpose strengthen. You'll see that you really can have an extraordinary impact without burning out or missing the life you want to lead. This can be your turning point—the moment you choose leadership that's sustainable, impactful, and true to YOU. I can't wait to see you step into that transformation. Send a textIn this episode, I explore one of my favorite Ayurvedic concepts — langhana, or lightening — and I bring a more nuanced lens to how we can work with this energy in spring without depleting ourselves in the process. Recording from my kitchen in Maine while watching the snow melt, I reflect on the signs of kapha accumulation I'm noticing in my own body and life, and share why the conventional wellness culture approach to spring cleanses and detoxes can backfire — especially for women in perimenopause, those in big life transitions, or anyone whose nervous system is already running on empty. If you've been feeling overwhelmed, scattered, forgetful, or like you're constantly behind, this conversation may shift how you understand stress and burnout. Chronic stress and burnout don't just affect your mood, they impact brain health, memory, attention, and decision-making. When your brain isn't functioning well, everything feels heavier than it needs to. We talk about brain fog causes, how poor sleep disrupts your brain's nightly cleaning system, and why elevated cortisol over time can shrink the hippocampus. We also explore ADHD symptoms and attention struggles through a new lens. Are you dealing with true ADHD, or the effects of sleep deprivation, digital overload, and chronic stress? You'll hear practical ADHD tips, how to get rid of brain fog, and simple ways to build real stress resilience. This episode also dives into rumination and negative neuroplasticity, how repetitive negative thoughts strengthen neural pathways that reinforce burnout. The good news? The brain is malleable. You can interrupt those patterns and strengthen new ones. As you listen, I'd love for you to consider: What if feeling better isn't just about changing your thoughts — but about strengthening your brain? And what small shift this week could begin healing stress and burnout at the root? In this episode of The Sacred Speaks, Dr. John Price sits down with Molly Carroll, therapist, writer, and host of the podcast Cracking Open, for a searching conversation about intuition, rupture, and the cost of inner honesty. Molly is the author of Trust Within: Letting Intuition Lead and Cracking Open. Her work grows out of lived dislocation, from moments when the life she was building no longer aligned with what she knew in her body. Together, John and Molly explore intuition not as a slogan or guarantee, but as a capacity that often becomes audible only after something in our lives refuses to continue as planned. The conversation moves through engagement endings, grief, codependency, therapy, and the subtle tension between anxiety and knowing. It considers whether intuition steadies us or unsettles us, and whether following it restores coherence or quietly dismantles the identities we once relied upon. Rather than offering formulaic guidance, this episode invites listeners into a more honest and discerning relationship with their own interior life. Key Takeaways: Molly Carroll describes the first “white picket fence dwindling moment” when she realized the life she planned (including an engagement) wasn't the life she truly wanted. The conversation frames intuition as a lived capacity shaped by rupture, grief, and risk rather than a simple gift or guarantee. The hosts emphasize integration of experiences—personal, spiritual, and professional—rather than retreating from discomfort after rupture. Molly recounts leaving an engagement with a fiancé visa in play, choosing honesty with herself over social expectations. The interview situates therapy and healing arts as pathways to listen to deep truths, even when those truths disrupt established life scripts Time-stamps (00:00) Introduction and Guest Overview (00:41) Housekeeping and Announcements (02:44) Introducing Molly Carroll (04:31) Molly's Journey and Intuition (07:16) Cracking Open Moments (11:28) The Role of Intuition and Personal Growth (22:53) Victimhood and Personal Responsibility (33:01) Connection and Compassion (43:05) Exploring Emotional Expression (43:53) The Healing Power of Tears (46:32) Creating Space for Vulnerability (49:20) Understanding Codependency (52:57) Intuition vs. Codependency (54:41) The Role of Intuition in Decision Making (01:08:56) Money, Worth, and Intuition (01:18:17) Concluding Thoughts and Reflections Connect with Molly Website https://molly-carroll.com/about/ Book https://www.amazon.com/Cracking-Open-2nd-Molly-Carroll/dp/1320934374?keywords=cracking+open&qid=1572021083&sr=8-1 Website for John http://www.drjohnwprice.com WATCH: YouTube for The Sacred Speaks https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOAuksnpfht1udHWUVEO7Rg Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thesacredspeaks/ @thesacredspeaks Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thesacredspeaks/ Brought to you by: https://www.thecenterforhas.com Theme music provided by: http://www.modernnationsmusic.com
