Triggers and Activators Are More Than Buzzwords: We clarify that “triggers” (or “activators”) are events that alter our nervous system, often deeply rooted in past traumas, not just everyday disappointments. In this conversation, Jeff shares a personal story about how traumatic events from our past, big or small, can leave lasting marks on our nervous system and influence our emotions well into the future. Our discussion takes a thoughtful look at how emotional intelligence (EQ) can help us navigate and manage these triggers, not by erasing them, but by developing new ways of thinking and responding. We emphasize the importance of curiosity instead of judgment when reflecting on emotional responses and describe how, just like updating outdated computer software, we can “upgrade” our mindsets and beliefs to function better in today's world. This episode offers practical strategies, a few laughs, and a poignant reminder that while working through our triggers takes effort and sometimes outside help, the journey is well worth it, and none of us has to go it alone. Whether you're looking to understand your own emotional responses or support someone else, there's something here for everyone looking to grow on their EQ journey. Here are 3 key takeaways for you:Triggers = Old Neural Pathways: Our emotional triggers are often rooted in past events that created neural pathways in our brains—think of it as “old software” that keeps running unless we update it through intentional effort and curiosity.EQ is a Learnable Tool: Emotional intelligence isn't a magic fix, but it's a powerful, learnable skill to help us recognize, understand, and slowly reprogram our responses to triggers. This process requires work, but that's where real growth happens.Curiosity Over Judgment: The first step to transforming our experience is curiosity, not blame. By exploring past emotions without judgment, we can identify which beliefs still serve us, and which need updating.Key Moments00:00 Trauma's Impact on the Brain03:59 Navigating Triggers with Emotional Intelligence07:12 Building New Neuroconnections11:53 Curiosity in Emotional Reflection13:28 "Rewire Thoughts, Question Core Beliefs"18:12 "Creating Space for Energy Renewal"21:38 "Simple Complexity of Auto Repair"23:41 "The Insidious Influence of Wealth"26:40 "What Happens When the Wizard's Power Fades?"30:28 Thinking, Fast vs. SlowIn each episode, Jeff and Eric will talk about what emotional intelligence, or understanding your emotions, can do for you in your daily and work life. This guided meditation aims to create space for possibility amidst challenging life situations. While we all encounter challenging situations, I created this meditation for my 12,000 Google fomer colleagues who were laid off a few years ago and the countless others affected by layoffs in the tech sector since then. These layoffs serve as a wake-up call for all of us—a reminder of the significance of intentionality in life and building financial resilience to overcome difficult times.Overview of the PracticeWe begin by finding a comfortable and alert position and taking three deep breaths to focus on the sensation of our breath in our bodies. We practice mindfulness, observing our thoughts with kindness and curiosity.Next, we expand our perspective and recall a challenging situation we are facing—a layoff, a divorce, the loss of a family member or pet. With mindfulness, we observe this situation with a kind and curious awareness. Then, we shift our focus to exploring the possibility of even the smallest positive outcomes in this challenging situation.I sincerely hope this meditation proves helpful as you process your challenges and embrace the opportunities life presents to you.Wishing you all the best on your journey.AdamPS: Introducing the…

Dr. Majesty Greer, a PGY-1 Anesthesiology resident at Stanford, joins us on this episode of Stranger Fruit to explore the concept of "Growing Seasons"—those unique periods in life marked by change, uncertainty, or intense transformation. Just like in nature, growth in our lives doesn't happen all at once. Some seasons are about planting, others about pruning. Some feel slow and silent, while others are full of blossoming and bloom. We'll discuss how to recognize the season you're in, how to respond with grace and intentionality, and how to make peace with periods that feel unproductive or unclear. What does it mean to grow when everything around you feels dormant? How do we cultivate patience when the fruit of our labor hasn't yet appeared? We all hit seasons where nothing makes sense—where it feels like God is silent, progress has stalled, and hope is drying up. In this powerful message, Pastor Mark Rempel unpacks Moses's 40 years in the desert and the truth we often forget: God does some of His deepest work in the quietest places. If you've ever felt stuck, delayed, or overlooked, this message will remind you—you're not abandoned, you're being prepared.SUBCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/@2911Church?sub_confirmation=1FOLLOW: https://www.instagram.com/2911church/?hl=enLISTEN: https://pod.link/1456498714LEARN MORE: https://www.2911church.com/SUPPORT: https://2911church.churchcenter.com/givingJoin us live every week from 2911 Church in Tempe, AZ as we worship together, hear powerful teaching, and grow in faith as a community. What's the last time you did something you didn't know how to do...For me, it was last week when I took up the idea of building custom Cornhole boards (fun and addictive sport, look it up) with my kids.My woodworking skills are limited, at best. And that's one of the reasons I decided to take on this project.I can tell you, now in the midst of the process, that I've already made a dozen small mistakes. However, going out of my comfort zone and doing something for the first time is weirdly what gives me a great sense of joy and satisfaction. Next to having my own custom Cornhole boards at the end of this project I'm sure that the skills, experience and knowledge I'll have gained will be useful somewhere further down the line. So in my personal life, I try to create a lot of space for these types of projects. (Sometimes a bit too much space if you ask my wife.)But what if the environment you're in is explicitly designed to stay in its comfort zone... as much as possible? The reality is that most of the organizations we work with as service design professionals are exactly just that. They are designed to keep things stable, controllable, and predictable. The incentives are basically to keep doing what we've been doing, but just do it faster and cheaper. So for us, who are in the business of experimenting and trying things out in order to drive positive change, that's a serious problem. It's easy to become frustrated with the organization's lack of risk-taking.Fortunately, there are more productive things that you can do instead of getting frustrated. Yes, even in those situations where the appetite for risk-taking feels non-existent. In this episode, we chat with Jen Briselli, who's an expert at growing a learning, adaptive, and dare I say even a bit more playful mindset within organizations. As all change starts within ourselves, we explore what you can do to increase your appetite for risk and uncertainty. We explore ways to be more adaptable, even in systems designed to resist change. And why breaking through some of the common roadblocks in order to be more playful might not be as hard as you think. This is a great conversation for anyone who wants to drive change with more impact and ease. Ready to jump in?One of the insights that stuck with me is that we have more agency than we often think to shake things up a bit inside organizations. We're active participants in these systems, not passive bystanders, and everything we do has a ripple effect. Enjoy and keep making a positive impact!~ Marc--- [ 1. Cycleways are often a hot button topic, but not in the Auckland district of Rodney, where plans are underway to build a 120k trail from Puhoi to Mangawhai for cycling, walking, running and even horse riding in some areas. Currently there are 23 'Great Rides' around the country, cycle trails that attract cycling tourism and stimulate local economies but none of them are in the Auckland Province. New Zealand marathon great Allison Roe is the founding Chairperson of the Matakana Coast Trail Trust, she spoke to Jesse about the issue.

I share some big milestones, like launching Experiential Anatomy with Jamie Lee Finch, building new communities, navigating complex relationships, and experiencing real growth—financially, emotionally, and creatively. One of the themes that keeps coming up for me is how essential it is to prioritize self-care, creativity, and emotional well-being—not just as a healthcare professional, but as a human being. Ever wondered what happens when you create a space for people to slow down and connect? Joey Mac Dizon did exactly that with The Mobile Cigar Lounge, and the results have been magical. In this conversation with Cam and Otis, Joey shares his journey from initial concept to creating a business that brings people together during life's most meaningful moments. "Don't rush a cigar. That's what cigarettes are for," Joey tells us, revealing his philosophy that some experiences deserve our full attention and time. From gender reveals (no, not with colored smoke coming from cigars!) to celebrations of life, Joey has seen how creating the right atmosphere transforms ordinary gatherings into memorable experiences. His military background taught him that being just one degree off can lead you astray—a lesson that has served him well in business and life.Whether you're a cigar aficionado or simply someone seeking to build something meaningful, Joey's approach to finding your tribe and creating space for connection will leave you inspired to slow down and savor what truly matters.Mention this episode when booking with The Mobile Cigar Lounge for an additional 20 cigars with your experience!#10xYourTeam #Leadership #VeteranOwned #ConnectionMatters #MobileCigarLounge #EntrepreneurJourney #TribeAndPurpose #SlowDownToConnect #MilitaryMindset #CigarCulture #CommunityBuildingChapter Times and Titles:When Level Isn't Level [00:00 - 03:00]Opening banter about construction challengesThe struggle of building when things aren't squareOne Degree Off Course [03:01 - 10:00]Joey's military experience with land navigationHow small errors lead to big mistakesThe Philosophy Behind the Lounge [10:01 - 21:15]Creating the Mobile Cigar Lounge conceptBuilding a business around meaningful experiences"Don't Rush a Cigar" [21:15 - 27:00]Joey's approach to slowing downWhy some experiences deserve dedicated timeCelebrations Worth Remembering [27:01 - 40:00]From birthdays to gender reveals to celebrations of lifeCreating the right atmosphere for meaningful momentsFinding Your Tribe [40:01 - 55:00]Building community through shared experiencesThe importance of connection in businessSpecial Offer and Closing [55:01 - End]How to book The Mobile Cigar LoungeContact information and podcast wrap-upJoey Mac Dizonhttps://www.themobilecigarlounge.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/joeymacdizon/https://www.facebook.com/themobilecigarlounge/https://www.instagram.com/themobilecigarlounge/

The Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo has attracted global fame for his bold and sensual portraits. He paints bodies and faces using his fingertips instead of a brush, capturing form through direct, tactile gestures. When he went to art school in Vienna, he was struck by the extent to which Black subjects had been overlooked in global art. Determined to change the status quo, he drew inspiration from early 20th Century Viennese artists like Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele and added his own techniques to invent a fresh new style of portraiture. Lucy Ash follows his preparations for a major new show at Gagosian in London. It involves a transformation of the gallery space into a full-scale recreation of a Ghanaian courtyard – just like the shared space in which he was raised. With the help of his collaborator, Glenn De Roché, an architect famous for community buildings and with an artist friend who produced a set of playing cards, especially for the event. This episode of The Documentary, comes to you from In the Studio, exploring the processes of the world's most creative people.

Send us a textCreating space for authentic communication is Ben Nathan's superpower. From his early days as an Actor to his current role as Founder of Luft Coaching, Ben has dedicated himself to helping others find clarity, confidence, and purpose in how they express themselves.Ben's journey is deeply personal. Growing up as the only Jewish child in his Primary School gave him a unique perspective on identity and belonging – experiencing what it means to feel different in ways others couldn't immediately see. This understanding fuels his approach to diversity and inclusion, bringing genuine empathy to his coaching practice. When he shares the story of his company name – Luft, meaning "space" or "air" in German – we understand it's more than clever branding; it's a reflection of his life philosophy. The conversation takes us through pivotal moments that shaped Ben's worldview, from the profound influence of his Russian-Jewish grandparents to the devastating loss of his brother to suicide. Rather than allowing tragedy to defeat him, Ben discovered that "out of hardship, good things can come" – a perspective that transformed his relationships with his brother's children and informs how he helps clients navigate their own challenges. What sets Ben apart is his commitment to "meeting people where they're at." Whether working with corporate teams or guiding his own children, he begins by accepting people as they are, not where he wishes they would be. This philosophy creates the psychological safety essential for genuine growth. Drawing from his teaching background, Ben ensures everyone feels included by incorporating diverse learning styles into his workshops, making them accessible to visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic learners.Ben closes with a powerful metaphor about elephants who remain tethered to small posts because they've been conditioned from infancy to believe they cannot break free. It perfectly encapsulates his mission: helping people recognize and break through self-imposed limitations to discover their true potential.Ready to find your voice and communicate with greater impact? How can we break barriers for women in God's service? In this episode, host Tina Yeager sits down with husband-and-wife co-authors Amy and Rob Dixon to explore the important topic of breaking gender barriers in church leadership and service. Drawing from their experiences, latest picture book Penny Preaches, and years of ministry, Amy and Rob share compelling stories and practical insights about empowering both women and men to use their God-given gifts fully within the church. Together, they discuss the power of seeing role models, the impact of tradition and history on church culture, and how to have healthy, grace-filled conversations around challenging topics. Whether you're a church leader, parent, or someone wanting to better understand the value of egalitarianism in faith, this episode will encourage you to rethink how we can all flourish by embracing the diverse callings God places on each of our lives. Key Takeaways from the Conversation: The Power of Models: Amy and Rob remind us how critical it is for children—especially girls—to see women in leadership roles within their faith communities. “It's hard to be what you can't see,” Rob shares, highlighting how exposure and representation fuel confidence and ambition. Gifts Without Gender Limits: The church thrives when everyone is able to use their God-given gifts freely, regardless of gender. Amy notes, “God has gifted us each individually with good gifts, and they're not sectioned off by gender.” Imagine the impact if the whole team was on the field, not just half! Moving Beyond Fear: The resistance to women in leadership often stems from fear—fear of change, of lost power, or simply the unknown. Rob reflects on how churches can move forward together and men can serve as allies, supporting rather than fearing women stepping into their callings. Healing from Past Wounds: Amy's openness about her own wounds from the church is a powerful reminder that you're not alone—and that healing comes, in part, from supportive communities and looking at the “fruits” of service. Creating Space for Dialogue: These conversations aren't always easy, but the key is humility and honest, scripture-centered discussion. The church has a unique opportunity to model healthy disagreement and mutual respect to the wider world. For Parents and Leaders:Penny Preaches isn't just for girls—it's for every child (and parent) eager to see what happens when everyone is empowered to serve God. Boys, too, benefit from seeing strong, Spirit-led women in their midst. Ready to Get Involved? Grab a copy of Penny Preaches at IVPress.com, AmyDixonBooks.com, or wherever books are sold. Stay connected with our guests: Amy Dixon: amydixonbooks.com Rob Dixon: doctorrobdixon.com Final Thought Let's keep the conversation going—with courage and humility—as we build faith communities where every person's gifts can truly flourish. Whether you're stepping into leadership or cheering others on, remember: the church is at its best when all its members are included. We're thrilled to accompany you on this journey of faith, growth, and transformation. As always, we appreciate your support! Please subscribe and share this episode. What would your summer look like if peace, ease, and cash flow could just exist together? This summer, I'm breaking up with the idea that success requires intensity and redefining what's truly productive! I used to believe that the more I worked, the more successful I would be. What if less effort actually created more results, space, creativity, and more cash flow? I have spent so many summers working in my office and feeling jealous of the people who were outside. I always felt obligated to be ‘in the trenches' because I convinced myself that more work equals more success. And that is so wrong! This summer, I am rewriting those rules and testing what happens when I work less, focus more, and trust that space might be the missing piece between where I am and where I want to be. Podcast Notes Episode 465 Creating Space for Awareness Hosts: Brian Miller, PCC and Chad Hall, MCC Date: May 15, 2025 In this episode of the Coach Approach Ministries podcast, Brian Miller and Chad Hall dive deep into the core coaching competency of evoking awareness. They explore how the International Coaching Federation reframed this concept to shift the focus away from simply asking questions and toward generating new insight and understanding for clients. The conversation includes practical strategies, mindset shifts, and real-world examples to help coaches foster meaningful breakthroughs. Key Highlights The Evolution of a Core Competency: The ICF shifted from emphasizing “powerful questioning” to “evoking awareness,” highlighting that questions are just one of many tools to spark insight. The Role of Deep Listening: Evoking awareness begins with truly listening — not just to words, but to tone, patterns, and what's left unsaid — with a deep sense of curiosity. Avoiding Entrenchment: Coaches should be careful not to challenge clients in ways that provoke defensiveness; gentle observations or reframing can lead to more open exploration. Multiple Paths to Awareness: Beyond questions, awareness can be evoked through metaphors, observations, reframing, or offering models and distinctions (like the “3 Ps” for leadership issues). Shifting the Coaching Mindset: Tools like the hourglass model are not instructions for the coach but frameworks to understand and support the client's thought journey. Takeaways Awareness is the goal, not the question itself — be flexible in your approach. Curiosity is foundational: great coaches listen beyond the surface. Evoking awareness means meeting the client where they are, even if that's uncertainty or resistance. Effective coaching requires patience — allow clients the space to discover rather than forcing insights. Throughout the history of the church, there has been a tendency to fall into different ditches of emphasis. During the medieval times, singleness was celebrated, and religious movements were dedicated to convents and monasteries. But those days are far in the past of the church. Our current services and church social events are set up to cater to married couples and parents. So much so that I've heard from several single friends that they don't feel like there is space made for them in the church! What has made the church a notoriously difficult place to be single? In this episode of our Hold Fast series, we're leaning into what it really means to lead with purpose—especially when the weight of funding pressures feels unrelenting. Iara Peng joins us for a heart-opening conversation that invites nonprofit leaders to breathe a little deeper and reimagine funding as a partnership, not just a transaction. With compassion and clarity, Iara offers a vision for building trust-based relationships rooted in alignment and shared purpose. You'll walk away with practical ways to pause the hustle, reclaim time for strategic thinking, prioritize fewer but better-aligned funders, and lean into storytelling as a spacious, powerful tool. It's the reminder we all need: you are already enough. Your work matters. And there's a more intentional, more human way forward.
