In this episode we learn more about the men we refer to as "The Wise Men". Pastor Harris reminds us how important it is that we make it a standard practice to dig into scripture and make sure we really know what it's telling us. Case in point, the Three Kings we find in the traditional Christmas story. Dad was always a pretty straight shooter, so I got a kick out of dad's answer to his own simple question he posed regarding how the story of the three wise men following a star actually came about. He simply answers, and I quote, “Well it all started from certain myths and legends that were concocted after the church had been overrun by apostasy in the fourth century.” I'd say that is a pretty straight answer. Maybe not the most Christmassy answer ever, but accurate none the less. Now lucky for us, in this episode we will all be paid a visit from the Great Hercule Puaro of all things Biblical to investigate and correct any great misconceptions of the three men we call the wise men. Pastor Harris uncovers specifics behind the text that sheds light around locations, timing, and background of the many aspects that surround these men.
What is our life leaned up against, being propped up by? Is it faithful obedience and faith in God's promises? Or is it something else?
Merry Christmas BB's! They say time flies when you're having fun, and time has certainly flown by during this Advent series. Today we do things a bit differently and we each record separately what Jesus as Prince of Peace means to us individually. On this Christmas Day, our prayer is that you would not only believe that His peace is for you, but that you would feel His peace wash over you. Luke 2:11 "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord." Happy Birthday King Jesus, we couldn't love you more!
Today, if we listen, there is a message from God of His generous, extravagant, extraordinary love for you and for me.

Ep. 78 | Everlasting Father Advent 2021 by Basically Basic Podcast
(Advent Series: Part 5 of 5) A guided time with God through prayer and reflection on Scripture. In this final episode of 2021, explore the theme of love. Mary's story is a remarkable story, one that we can find a lot of our own story within, especially this year. Dig into the Hebrew concept of Hesed (committed love) and the Greek concept of Agape (others-oriented love) as you are held closely by Him. (Advent Series: Part 4 of 5) A guided time with God through prayer and reflection on Scripture. In this episode, explore the theme of joy. We all need joy, not just some fleeting happiness. In this upside down season, how can we find moments and glimpses of joy? We can only find real joy in light of the relational reality of God's coming near. Take some time to soak in the nearness of God, so you may be a source of joy to others around you. To learn more about Spiritual Growth, visit saddleback.com/grow . Ep. 77 | Mighty God Advent 2021 by Basically Basic Podcast
(Advent Series: Part 3 of 5) A guided time with God through prayer and reflection on Scripture. In this episode, put yourself into the shoes of those who lived in Bethlehem. What did peace mean to them? How is God's promised peace different from the world's peace? If peace is greater than the absence of conflict, what could that mean to you? Spend some time with the God who brings us true peace, the peace we all need. To learn more about Spiritual Growth, visit saddleback.com/grow . (Advent Series: Part 2 of 5) A guided time with God through prayer and reflection on Scripture. In this episode, put yourself into the shoes of the shepherds. What were their hopes? What did their thoughts go to? And how did the proclamation of the angels of the arrival of the new king change their hopes? How can the arrival of the new king shape your hopes? Spend some time with the God who builds our hopes, and shapes our future. To learn more about Spiritual Growth, visit saddleback.com/grow .
