Officers from Hampshire and nine other forces were involved in the three-day campaign, called Operation Pandilla, using automatic number-plate recognition to target vehicles on arterial routes and motorways. It resulted in 230 arrests for offences including attempted murder, possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, possession of offensive weapons, possession of firearms, assault and possession of criminal property. Men and women in Petersfield are being encouraged to consider a career as a firefighter. The Hampshire Fire and Rescue service is recruiting for permanent firefighters in our area. Successful candidates will receive specialist training to deal with a wide variety of incidents from road traffic collisions, fires and floods to chemical spills, rescue from heights and animal rescue. You can apply to join the service as a trainee or a competent firefighter if you already have experience. The service says that keeping people safe in their homes is a priority right now. This means you’ll visit the most at-risk residents, attend schools and community events and inspect high-risk properties to reduce the chance of fires happening in the first place. If you’d like to pursue this opportunity, you can find out more at the link we’ll post on petersfieldradio.uk Look – here it is… bit.ly/JoinHantsIOWFire A Petersfield environment group wants to know your thoughts on climate change. The Petersfield Climate Action Network is conducting an online survey to discover what people in our town think about climate change and the environmental measures we can take to help combat it. There are sixteen questions in the survey including points about the new Covid-19 restrictions in Petersfield Town Centre and whether they should become permanent. The survey organisers also want to know what you have done so far to help. They suggest reducing household energy, driving and flying less, using an electric vehicle and buying from local businesses can all contribute. The council’s Constitution is a key document which supports the council’s operations and ensures efficient governance. The work has also included a revised Code of Conduct, which is clearer and more helpful to councillors. The Code of Conduct will be shared with town and parish councils who can comment on it and adopt it as they require. The final version of the constitution, to include the new Code of Conduct and new protocols for officers and councillors, will be finished in November. EHDC leader Cllr Richard Millard believes the new Constitution will be more comprehensive, flexible, easier for residents and councillors to understand and will provide the council with a clear set of guiding principles. Travel news On Winchester Road in Petersfield there are temporary traffic lights at its junction with Princes Road. Watch out there if you’re coming off the roundabout because the traffic can back-up right onto the roundabout when the light is red going into town. On Station Road the electrical works continue and there are temporary lights controlling traffic from Sandringham Road and Winton Road.
