Send us a textIn this week's episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, Dr. Mark Amols takes you on a guided tour of your baby's very first pictures—the first trimester ultrasound. From the tiny gestational sac to the yolk sac (your baby's first lunchbox), to the fetal pole and that reassuring flicker of a heartbeat, Dr. Amols explains what each step really means and when you should expect to see it. You'll also learn:Why we stop checking hCG once we see the sacWhat it means if a yolk sac is missing or measures unusually small or largeHow to understand the fetal pole and when to expect a heartbeatGrowth benchmarks from “grain of rice” to “strawberry”Why being 3–7 days behind may (or may not) be concerningHow and why the placenta forms, and when we can actually see itWhat nuchal translucency is, what causes it, and what it does—and doesn't—meanOne ultrasound is just a snapshot, but together they create the story of the first trimester. If you've just found out you're pregnant—or you're supporting someone who has—this episode will help you decode what's on the screen and know what to expect in those exciting early weeks. Thanks for tuning in to another episode of 'Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday' with Dr. Mark Amols. I have some big news to share — I'm pregnant! In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on my first trimester (because what THE HECK was that) The unexpected challenges, moving less than I'm used to, watching my body change, and learning to navigate lower energy while taking care of my health and running a business. This season has taught me so much about slowing down, trusting my body, and letting go of the pressure to “do it all.” It's also made me rethink how I want to show up in my work and opened my heart to helping more women in a different capacity.Whether you're a fellow business owner, a mama-to-be, or simply in a season of transition, I hope this episode encourages you to lean in, let go of perfection, and make room for what matters most (and a little bit of magic).Do you feel like your metabolism has slowed down? This episode features a big life update and even more insights for the podcast! We dive into Katie's A race for the foreseeable future: pregnancy! Topics include: why relatively limited research on endurance training during pregnancy makes individual anecdotes so powerful; how Katie thought about “planning” pregnancy in the context of training and racing (and why pregnancy is ultimately harder to plan than your race calendar); first trimester symptoms—including nausea, fatigue, and food aversions—and how they impacted her training; how she collaborated with coaches, doctors, and other members of her support team to train safely; the decision to “race” a 5K at 8 weeks pregnant and how it went; how Katie's mindset and mental strategies have shifted so far in the context of pregnancy; goals and intentions for the remainder of pregnancy and postpartum; and some favorite academic papers on exercise during pregnancy. Conversations around fertility, pregnancy and postpartum journeys can be hard, so please know that wherever you are in this journey, you are enough. And even if you aren't pregnant or planning to become pregnant, this episode has some general insights that may be relevant to you. I have been asked countless times if I am going to be creating pregnancy resources and so this podcast episode (and those to follow each trimester) are my response! In today's episode, I brought on my very own naturopathic dr, Dr. Jenna Priestap, who I've been working with throughout my pregnancy and will continue to work with postpartum to optimize my nutrient levels, hormone health, mental health, and overall recovery. Not just for the baby, but for me, too! We chat about it all… the difference between conventional and functional lab testing in early pregnancy and why "normal" lab results don't always mean everything is optimal. We walk through the key nutrients to look at in your first trimester blood work, how I've tailored my supplements based on those results, the common symptoms, how I supported my body through food (even during weeks of intense aversions), and the emotional reality of early pregnancy. This was such a supportive, honest conversation. Whether you're pregnant, trying to conceive, or thinking ahead, I can't wait for you to listen! Supplements mentioned: NFH Prenatal SAP, methylated folate, vitamin D, vitamin B12 in the form of methylcobalamin, omega-3s with EPA + DHA, lemon balm, magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium citrate, P5P (activated B6), and Rescue Remedy Spray. The homemade electrolyte recipe: 0.5 tsp salt, juice of 1 lemon, 0.5 tsp baking soda, 1 tbsp raw honey, 1 L of water. Drink 1L daily. When you're pregnant after IVF, you're likely beaming with joy while at the same time trying to keep negative, worrisome thoughts in check. If you're like so many of the fertility patients I see, then you may be hyper-aware of your body, emotions and sensitive to the what-ifs of pregnancy after fertility treatment. Now you're pregnant, and yes, you may have dreamed of this moment for quite some time. But it's okay not to love every second of being pregnant. You are not alone! And you do not have to manage these feelings by yourself or with the help of Google (In fact, please make a pact with me right now that you'll do your best to avoid Google). Save yourself the heartache and talk to me, your OBGYN or tune into today's podcast episode where I'm sharing all about what to expect, and how to navigate the first few months of being pregnant after IVF. In this podcast, Dr. Valentin Fuster discusses a groundbreaking study from JACC that explores how genetic risk and cardiovascular health in the first trimester of pregnancy predict hypertensive disorders, such as preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, and eclampsia. The research highlights the potential of improving cardiovascular health early in pregnancy as a preventive measure, especially for those at high genetic risk, and calls for more accessible, community-based interventions to better support maternal health.

Then I was able to not only prevent worsening of issues with my subsequent two pregnancies, I was able to heal my leaking and issues while I was pregnant! Inside this week's episode I am letting you in on all the basic foundational core and pelvic floor information that every pregnant woman should know, and frankly every human. You can listen to Beth's first birth story in episode 254 and today she shares her second pregnancy and birth story - from the perspective of a midwife and a mother. After moving interstate, Beth had two hospitals to choose from and halfway through her pregnancy, intuition dictated she change from one to the other. While she had beautiful care through the midwifery clinic, she talks about the consistent conversations about her ‘big baby' and she takes us through the process of trusting herself, tuning out of doubtful comments and declining suggestions for growth scans and induction. Her labour was a mental game and Beth details it beautifully, especially the mother/midwife tussle and the profound difference a reassuring, trusting care provider can make to labour progression and a woman-centred birth._________ We're celebrating Spring with a spring time sale!
