Disney connoisseurs Mike Westfall from Advent Calendar House and Charlie Ague from Closer to Christmas and Ague Designs are here with me to break it down!Joan Lunden and Mike Douglas host this 1983 Christmas parade with narration written by Doug Cody. The production was directed by Chico Fernandez. Tinkerbell opened the show, and Cinderella and her entourage processed down Main Street USA. Pinocchio and the Jungle Book crews followed right behind her.The Alice in Wonderland performers come next, along with Herbie the Love Bug and a Dumbo's Circus float. Soon followed the World Champion Percheron horses hitched to wagon commissioned by Disney. Goofy drove his jalopy immediately afterward, and Robin Hood and his Merry Men succeeded him. After Carol Lawrence and the Voices of Liberty Singers performed at Epcot, Mary Poppins and Cruella de Vil glide down Main Street. The toy soldiers from “Babes in Toyland” march along, and Mickey and Minnie ride a coach behind them. Donald, Snow White, and Mrs. Claus follow on floats, accompanied by characters from Peter Pan, Chip and Dale, and the Hundred Acre Wood. Finally, Santa Claus himself flew in to close out the celebration.Victorian garb? Check. Anthropomorphic bipedal reindeer? Yep. Endless commercials from Days Inn and Eastern Airlines? Definitely! What's up, dudes? It's another bonkers He-Man Christmas tale from the UK comics! This time I've got Jeff Loftin from Lost Christmas and Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast with me to break down the power of Grayskull!Hordak has cast a spell that freezes men's hearts, cutting out all hope. Desperate to lift this ice-fear, He-Man and the heroic warriors battle the evil Horde. Unfortunately, the villains escape through a portal leaving Eternia to the desolation. In a last ditch effort to bring hope to his people, He-Man concocts a plan with Man-At-Arms to deliver presents to all children. The fruits of his labor are seen through the eyes of woodcutter Nik-Las and his daughter Mouse. The sudden appearance of the doll gave Nik-Las hope and Mouse the courage to speak after many silent years. The ice-fear was banished from the realm!Cage of ice spears? Check. Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas joins me to talk all about “Thanks for Christmas” and its B-side “Countdown to Christmas Party Time!”The single had a few in jokes in the liner notes too! The writing is credited to Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar, the traditional Western names for the Magi. Credit was given to producer The Good Lord as well.Pseudonyms? Check. Modulations? A bunch. Adding a B-side just so the album doesn't warp? Definitely! What's up, dudes? I've got Robert Nicholas from Behind the Bells with me to talk all about the anthology special “Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales!” Released in ‘79, right on the cusp of the ‘80s, it's got 3 newly animated shorts held together by a loose framing device! Oh, and it's quite fun and spectacular too!The meta aspect of the special begins as Bugs Bunny, rehearsing his carolers, tells the tale of A Christmas Carol. Yosemite Sam is the miserly Scrooge who fires Porky Pig's Cratchitt. Bugs, mischievous as ever, takes it upon himself to play the Ghost of Christmas. Sneakily, he haunts Sam by banging drums, pouring snow in his hot bath, and threatening to take him to see the “other” guy in the red suit. As Bugs and gang sit for Christmas dinner, they congratulate each other on their acting performances of the Dickensian characters. Meanwhile, Wile E. Coyote eyes the turkey and immediately wishes he had roast roadrunner. The chase begins! Time and again the coyote is stymied by Acme products. His snow machine wallops him repeatedly, his sled dogs try to eat him, and his rocking horse leaves him. Returning to the choir, Bugs leaves to read his nephew A Visit from St. Nicholas. Unbeknownst to the rabbits, the Tasmanian Devil escapes his confinements and accidentally hijacks Santa's sleigh team. Trying to avoid being eaten, Bugs tricks Taz into eating an inflatable raft, levitating him away.Taz in a Santa suit? Check. Stuttering characters trying to sing? Yup. Wile E. Coyote constantly getting crushed by snow? Definitely! So grab your acme rocket skis, bang your drums really loudly, and trick your way into this episode about “Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales!”Behind the BellsFB: @BehindtheBellsIG: @behind_the_bells_podcastCheck us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! After thwarting a hostage situation in the Christmas aisle of a supermarket, he suspects the Night Slasher killer is more than he seems. His theory is confirmed when Ingrid Knudsen witnesses a killing spree by several members of this social Darwinian organization. Now trying to protect her, Cobra moves her to a safe house to evade the killers. Unfortunately, a mole in the police force tips off the Night Slasher gang and a battle ensues! The mole and the gang leader are dispatched in spectacular fashion, and the day is saved!Sunglasses? Check. Mid-movie photo shoot? Uh huh. Eating pizza with scissors?! What's up, dudes? It makes sense that a Christian music record label would release a version of the Christmas Story, right? Yup. Sparrow Records, founded in 1976 by Billy Ray Hearn, then A&R director at Myrrh Records, did exactly that! In 1987, Sparrow released a promotional album to radio stations containing several of their biggest artists narrating the Nativity story. The B-side contained some Christmas IDs of these stars wishing us all a Merry Christmas. The Christmas Story narration is done in this order: Michael Card is up first, followed by Scott Wesley Brown, Margaret Becker, Steve Camp, and Richard Souther. Michael Card then takes it up again, this time followed by Steven Curtis Chapman, Geoff Moore, Rick Florian of White Heart, Deniece Williams, and Steve Green. The musical selections were taken from Steve Green's album Joy To The World! The Scripture reading was taken from The New International Version translation.Steven Curtis Chapman? Check. The guys from White Heart? Yup. Deniece Williams?!? Well, let's hear it for the voice! So grab your donkey, knock on all the doors to the town's inns, and remember what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown, as the Sparrow artists narrate the Christmas Story!Check us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! What's up, dudes? Once again, I've got Christmas Clatter host Todd Killian here to discuss the back door Christmas in May “Newhart” episode ‘The Prodigal Daryl!' Either the writer really loved Christmas or there was a Christmas episode they hadn't used and really wanted to! Joanna decides to take Christmas card pictures early since she and Dick always miss the opportunity during the season. They deck the hall—or inn, rather—with a Christmas tree, garland, wreaths, etc. Their patrons even get involved and even help trim the tree!Meanwhile Larry, his brother Daryl, and his other brother Daryl win $30K in a jingle writing contest! When his brother Daryl takes his share of the money and blows it on wanton decadence, Larry asks Dick to help him track him down and bring him back. As the Loudons are about to take their Christmas card photo, the brother Daryl returns to his family! It's a Christmas in May miracle! Yes, this one's got it all! Popcorn jingle? Check. Beautiful live tree? Yep. Daryl in a track suit? Definitely! So grab $10K, party with Dave Coulier, and take a Christmas card pic with this episode!Christmas ClatterFB: @christmasclatterIG: @christmasclatter Twitter: @XmasClatterCheck us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! What's up, dudes? B-movie queen Sybil Danning bares it all in this Christmas(?) tale of seduction and murder, and I've got Shawn, Jaime, and Pax from Cult Film Club, Crestwood House, I Read Movies, Plastic Rocket Pop, and more to talk all about it! That's right! It's the 1984 erotic thriller "They're Playing with Fire!"Literature professor Diane hires her student Jay to varnish her yacht's woodwork. After seducing him, she convinces him to help her and her husband Michael get their inheritance. Jay will break in Michael's mom Lillian's house scaring her enough to move to a nursing home so Diane and Michael can move in. Jay breaks in, but is chased away by Lillian. An unknown assailant then kills Lillian. Meanwhile, Jay's ex-girlfriend is killed by a man in a Santa Claus suit in a play room decorated for Christmas. As suspicion falls on the trio, blame and thoughts of revenge are thrown around. Oh, yeah, and there's an incestuous love child step-brother of Michael hiding out somewhere. Forgot to mention that. Long story short, Michael is killed and Jay and Diane inherit everything and fly off to Hawaii.Killer Santa? Check. Evil long lost brother? Yup. Awkward love scenes? Definitely! What's up, dudes? It's a prog rock Christmas! Yes, we're talking Chris Squire and Alan White's “Run with the Fox!” This single along with B-side “Return of the Fox” was recorded and released in 1981 on Atlantic Records. The song is a masterclass on pedal point, syncopation, and suspended chords, with a driving beat and occasional mixed meter just to keep things interesting.Chris Squire and Alan White played bass and drums respectively for progressive rock band Yes, and co-wrote the Christmas song with King Crimson lyricist Peter Sinfield. How? You ask. Well, Yes frontman Jon Anderson and keyboardist Rick Wakeman had left the group in 1980, replaced by Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn from The Buggles. After an album and tour, Yes disbanded in ‘81 and Squire and White continued to work together, composing “Return of the Fox” with Squire on vocals. Naturally it got a lot of airplay through the ‘80s and early ‘90s during the Christmas season.Synths? Check. Pedal tones? Yup. Obscure metaphoric lyrics? Definitely! Yes, Bradley Lyndon from Million Monkey Theater joins me to talk all about the team up between Mr. T and Emmanuel Lewis in this wacky 1984 special! Mr. T stars as Benny, a Salvation Army-style Santa who meets a young latch-key kid, played by Emmanuel Lewis of TV's Webster, who seems to have lost his Christmas spirit. Mr. T sets out to change Billy's mind, taking him around the city to all the touristy must see spots! First up is FAO Schwartz, where David Copperfield gives him an ‘80s cigarette smoke filled magic lesson. There's even an Olympic figure skater routine at Rockefeller Center! The duo then proceed to Radio City Music Hall, where Maureen McGovern serenades them with Christmas songs. In typical kid fashion, Webster falls asleep watching a rehearsal and consequently imagines himself as one of the toy soldiers in the Rockettes' Christmas Show. Oh yeah, he also meets Willie Tyler and his dummy Lester. Naturally, in the big holiday finale, he's moved to realize the true meaning of Christmas, before being reunited with his workaholic parents. This one's got it all! ‘80s icons? Check. HO HO HO! This episode hosted by Santa Claus! Jesus, God, and the Holy Ghost join Santa, mad with power, to speculate about Trump's arrest, TUMS antiacid overdoses, Morgan Freeman, Trump calling DeSantis names, and if Jesus lives inside Trump. On 'Free Play/Recess,' Santa talks about whatever he wants, like reindeer performance reviews, nepotism, his new book tour, and Santa's village. On 'Ask God,' you'll get a look inside how Santa scores naughty and nice children, whether God will curse the GOP, did God send the giant seaweed blob to attack Florida, will Jesus get a tattoo, and will God boff Christopher Walken. On 'JFC LOL,' the gang discusses no one thanking God for their Oscar wins. On 'The Santa Show!' Jack Black and the Farrelly Brothers' movie 'Dear Santa' is reviewed months before its release. What's up, dudes? Christmas Eve in Gotham: uptown, the streets are filled with last-minute shoppers and the cheering jingle of chimes. But here, in the forgotten part of the city, the streets are almost deserted, save for a handful of scavengers and their unfortunate victim—and the very special sort of vengeance which lurks in the sheltering shadows! That vengeance is Santa Ambassador Matt Spaulding from North Pole Radio and Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast who join me to talk “Batman Monthly,” a 1988 UK comic from London Editions Magazine which reprinted older Batman stories. Volume 6 contains two classic Batman stories. In "Have Yourself a Deadly Little Christmas," Batman races to rescue a young girl from death by suicide. In his way stands the Blockbuster! In "Silent Night, Deadly Night," Denny O'Neil tells a tale of redemption when Batman helps a desperate and disgruntled former employee of a toymaker make up for his misdeeds. With the likes of Len Wein, Denny O'Neil, and Dick Giordano on these stories in "Batman Monthly," the Batman's humanity shines through!
