This very special episode of The Ticket is linked to the PeCAN (Petersfield Climate Action Network) Story Writing Competition for young people, organised by Shine Radio's Suzie Wilde. As a fiction author, and teacher of creative writing to all ages, Suzie observed the careful awe most children have for the natural world. It can be a struggle for adults to regain their honesty and directness and she thought it would be fun for our youngsters to have a go at both Fiction and Non Fiction, and be inspirational. Our winners certainly are!Judging Non Fiction was Roger Morgan-Grenville, who was the April guest author in Shine Radio's Talking Books podcast, with Tim O'Kelly of One Tree Books. Roger is passionate about the natural world and his books show that quality of putting the reader in the exact time and place. PeCAN provided the prizes for this category. The Fiction judge is also an author who writes with clarity and purpose. Barbara Henderson lives and works in Scotland and writes for young people, and on her many school visits she helps them combine good storytelling with the natural world. She was the June guest on Talking Books. One Tree Books awarded book tokens to the winner and runner-up. Suzie hopes these young people inspire us to look at what's around us with fresh eyes, so that appreciation of our South Downs home makes us truly nurture it.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Successful candidates will receive specialist training to deal with a wide variety of incidents from road traffic collisions, fires and floods to chemical spills, rescue from heights and animal rescue. You can apply to join the service as a trainee or a competent firefighter if you already have experience. The service says that keeping people safe in their homes is a priority right now. This means you’ll visit the most at-risk residents, attend schools and community events and inspect high-risk properties to reduce the chance of fires happening in the first place. If you’d like to pursue this opportunity, you can find out more at the link we’ll post on petersfieldradio.uk Look – here it is… bit.ly/JoinHantsIOWFire A Petersfield environment group wants to know your thoughts on climate change. The Petersfield Climate Action Network is conducting an online survey to discover what people in our town think about climate change and the environmental measures we can take to help combat it. There are sixteen questions in the survey including points about the new Covid-19 restrictions in Petersfield Town Centre and whether they should become permanent. The survey organisers also want to know what you have done so far to help. They suggest reducing household energy, driving and flying less, using an electric vehicle and buying from local businesses can all contribute. The council’s Constitution is a key document which supports the council’s operations and ensures efficient governance. The work has also included a revised Code of Conduct, which is clearer and more helpful to councillors. The Code of Conduct will be shared with town and parish councils who can comment on it and adopt it as they require. The final version of the constitution, to include the new Code of Conduct and new protocols for officers and councillors, will be finished in November. EHDC leader Cllr Richard Millard believes the new Constitution will be more comprehensive, flexible, easier for residents and councillors to understand and will provide the council with a clear set of guiding principles.
