The fourth trimester is real, intense, and wildly under-discussed. Christin, Joyce, and Chloe sit down for an honest conversation about the first 12 weeks after birth. What's happening in the body, why "being cleared at six weeks" is not the same as being fully healed, and how physical recovery, nutrition, nervous system regulation, identity shifts, and societal pressure all collide at once. They unpack why postpartum isn't a bounce-back phase, how under-eating and rushing recovery can backfire, and what slowing down, deep nourishment, and rebuilding really look like in practice. The conversation also dives into cultural gaps in postpartum care, the impact of social media expectations, and why community, support, and asking for help matter more than doing it all yourself. This one is for new moms, seasoned moms, and anyone supporting someone through the fourth trimester who wants real talk, not platitudes (and permission to take their time). I used to assume conception began at the first sign of pregnancy — until I learned about Trimester Zero. The 100-day window before conception may be the most powerful period in shaping your baby's lifelong health — and your own. In this minisode, I sit down with Vida Delrahim and Ronit Menashe, co-founders of WeNatal, to unpack what science now calls the pre-pregnancy trimester. We talk about how both women and men can dramatically influence fertility and genetics before conception through nutrition, lifestyle, and the health of one mighty organelle — the mitochondria. This episode features highlights from our full conversation, which premiered August 12th, 2025. Watch the full episode here → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gztCFH603g About the guests:After experiencing miscarriages just a week apart, best friends Vida and Ronit were devastated — and confused. Both were healthy, both on prenatal vitamins, and yet doctors dismissed their losses as “random” or “age-related.” They partnered with leading experts, pored over research, and created a science-backed prenatal system for both women and men. What began as a personal mission has grown into WeNatal — a movement giving couples the knowledge, tools, and products to support conception, pregnancy, and the lifelong health of future generations. *** Subscribe to The Neuro Experience for more conversations at the intersection of brain science and performance. How do you find a good OBGYN when you’re pregnant? Ever felt a sharp pain in the butt during your period? And what role does testosterone play in perimenopause? In this episode, we talk to Kirsten Palmer, Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with Monash University to find out what’s happening throughout your pregnancy including morning sickness (just why?), preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, food safety, immunisations, and what impact being pregnant may have on your prescription medication. Plus, why do you fill up with fluid? We also talk about why you’re so tired in the first trimester and whether to announce your pregnancy before 12 weeks so you get the support you need. Plus, Mariam talks about why new national guidelines that redefine what we call 'recurrent miscarriage' really matter. Hey Mama! Welcome back to Pregnancy Unpacked for weeks 24-26 of your pregnancy journey. This episode is all about busting 2nd trimester myths, diving into what's happening with your body and baby, and empowering you with the facts to trust yourself. Let's unpack the real stuff. What's Happening with BabySize Check: Your little one is about the size of an ear of corn - 13-14 inches long and close to 2 pounds!Big Developments: Baby's building fat stores, fine-tuning hearing and touch, and growing stronger lung tissue. They're practicing breathing movements, opening and closing their eyes, and even having hiccups (so cute).Brain Boost: Rapid brain development means more kicks, rolls, and jerky jumps. Keep an eye on those movements!Join the Calm Mama Membership: labornursemama.com/cmsLeave a review and include your Instagram username for a chance to win our monthly raffle! What's Happening with YouShortness of Breath: Try deep breathing exercises or get on hands and knees with your booty in the air to ease it.Carpal Tunnel: Swollen wrists or tingling fingers? Elevate your hands, shake them out, or grab a wrist brace. Talk to your provider if it's intense.Round Ligament Pain: Sharp pains in your lower belly? Move slowly, support your belly, or try a belly band and prenatal yoga.Leg Cramps: Stay hydrated, stretch calves before bed, and consider magnesium lotion or gummies (check with your provider).Your Appointments Glucose Screening Test: Screens for gestational diabetes. Options include the glucola drink, Fresh Test, or home blood sugar checks. Mama, it is not your fault if you test positive - it's hormones, not your diet.
