Founder Maurice Terzini is best known for stamping his indelible mark and style on both the Sydney and Melbourne dining experience. His long history in the hospitality industry and gift for fostering lasting creative relationships have seen him establish not only some of Australia's most iconic dining venues, but also a number of Sydney's most recognisable events. Born to Italian parents in Melbourne, early years spent back in Italy cemented in him a love of his culture and heritage, awakening a life-long passion for Italian hospitality. At the age of 23 Terzini opened his first venture, Caffe e Cucina on Melbourne's then undiscovered Chapel Street, with the café radically altering perceptions and conventions around the dining scene at the time, offering high-end quality in a café setting. A string of successful hospitality ventures followed, capped by the jewel in the crown of Icebergs Dining Room and Bar on the cliffs of Bondi- opening in 2002. More than a decade on, Icebergs is still at the forefront of the Australian culinary landscape, thanks to Terzini's gift for dreaming the big picture and executing it, often ahead of his time and breaking ground in ideas, style and locations.

On today's show we chat to Taiba Ash - founder and director of FinerRings - a super popular jewellery brand you have most likely come across, which she has been operating for 10 years.  Taiba was working full time about to take the risky move of quitting her job to become a nurse. She quickly realised that her millennial-style lack of value for money would ensure her savings would quickly dwindle. So, she devised a plan: start a small business to get her through her 3 year course.  The small business? FinerRings - which is not at all small. With FinerRings, Taiba aimed to provide quality, affordable jewellery that is designed in Melbourne. Taiba never expected FinerRings to get to where it is today. From her early days of selling out of her extremely popular stall at South Melbourne market, to launching an online store and later opening the doors of her first store on Chapel Street in South Yarra in November of 2018. The brand now has four locations in Melbourne, one in Sydney, and even hosts classes teaching others how to make jewellery themselves.  In all of this, Taiba also founded Romper & Co. - a baby boutique  of carefully curated collections of quality pieces for newborns and young munchkins - following the same principle of being of great quality, yet affordable.   Taiba runs her business with her strong Jewish values in mind which she'll tell you all about - so let's dive in!  – When Taiba switches off from business stuff, she's reading Colleen Hoover novels books, and just started watching Love Is Blind in some spare time.  – Find Finer Rings on Instagram @finerrings and shop their waterproof, tarnish free jewellery at finerrings.com  Find Romper & Co. on Instagram @romperandco and shop for quality baby & toddler pieces at affordable prices at romperand.co  – Wanting more? Today's House Guest is the guru of interiors - Nina Campbell. Nina was my very first podcast victim and has graciously agreed to chat again to celebrate 50 years in the business. Having started with John Fowler at Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler, 'I considered myself lucky to be carrying his bags', she says, Nina went on to work for Mark Birley on the interiors of Annabel's members' club. They teamed up to open a shop on the Pimlico Road, SW1. Nina explains: 'Eventually Mark got bored, but I continued and moved to Walton Street, SW3. I was a bit tired of interior design at that point but, one day, Anne Heseltine walked into the shop and asked if I could decorate her and Michael's new house on Chapel Street, SW1. It turned out to be a house in which I had lived as a child. I've always been guided by these sorts of things – interference from the Almighty, so to speak. Interior design is a bossy business and if you're that way inclined and someone asks you to help, you say, ‘Yes.' Tune in to hear about what Nina has been up to recently and her top tips on decorating a beautiful home.

Episode 24 of The Blank Canvas Podcast with Maurice Terzini. This weeks guest is visionary restauranteur and entrepreneur - Maurice Terzini.Maurice has drawn on his Italian heritage and combined it with his passions; food, music, art, fashion and design...and in the process has created a contemporary dining aesthetic that has blazed trails throughout the Australian hospitality industry.A modest man with a punk sensibility, a fierce work ethic and attention to detail bar none. The interior design of his restaurants, the locations, the branding, marketing materials, not to mention the food and service, are the stuff of legend. At the age of 23 he opened his first venture, Caffe e Cucina on Melbourne’s then undiscovered Chapel Street, with the café radically altering perceptions and conventions around the dining scene at the time, offering high-end quality in a café setting - Voted in the Top 10 cafes in the world in the NY Times for four years. Numerous successful hospitality ventures followed including Il Bacaro, the legendary Melbourne Wine Room, Caffe Vini Spuntini, OTTO and spin-off NOVE, North Bondi Italian Food, Melbourne’s Giuseppe Arnaldo & Sons, Café Veloce...capped by the jewel in the crown, the iconic Icebergs Dining Room and Bar. His more recent restaurants are CicciaBella Bondi Beach & Parramatta and The Dolphin Hotel in Surry Hills. Maurice seems to thrive on dreaming up impossible visions in the field of hospitality and single-mindedly working day and night until they are manifest - all the while bringing people together for conversation and culture.
