Find us at: iTunes Spotify Patreon YouTube We’re joined this week by a very special guest, Lucy, the Apple Bloom to our Sweet Apple Acres here at Mac & Maud HQ, because it’s a Cutie Mark Crusaders episode! Or at least, it should be, but when the Crusaders ask their grown-up counterparts to help with a derby racer challenge, they start to take over the whole shebang. Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, and Apple Bloom all have different ideas of how they want to race, and their sister ponies have shoved them out of the process almost entirely. Inevitably, things are bound to go badly, and it’s entirely possible that the CMC’s are going to have to save the day once again. Join us for a special Crusaders-sode this week on Macintosh & Maud! Check out our merchandise at our new Teepublic store! We've got lots of fun designs to choose from and more on the way! Macintosh & Maud have a Patreon! Find us at: iTunes Spotify Patreon YouTube This week we catch up with the Cutie Mark Crusaders post-cutie marks! Despite a lot of swooning over their shiny new flank decorations, the Crusaders are a little perplexed about what comes next for them. While Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo find some new activities to try on their own, Apple Bloom has a…just checking our notes…ah, yes, FULL-ON EXISTENTIAL CRISIS. For a few minutes, Apple Bloom rapidly descends into darkness before realizing her purpose might just be staring her in the face. We review “On Your Marks” this week on Macintosh & Maud! Content Warning: We directly confront disrespectful and transphobic tropes used in this episode of My Little Pony (a stallion dresses in drag, which is used mostly for comedic purposes). While many of these moments are mild in nature, some of this content may be upsetting to some listeners. Please take care of yourselves and do not listen to this episode until you feel safe doing so. Thank you. Find us at: iTunes Spotify Patreon Every season or so of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, an episode comes along that has not aged well. This episode in particular sees Big Macintosh wanting to re-connect with Apple Bloom so much that he’s willing to dress in drag to be her partner at the Sisterhooves Social. The gesture is, as Sweetie Belle points out: “Sweet. Weird, but sweet.” Except that the writers missed the mark badly by leaning into the drag tropes and jokes waaaaaay too hard. And yet despite that layer of ickiness, the final scene of the episode sees Big Macintosh open up his sweet stallion heart to his little sister, feeling a little overshadowed by Applejack. As problematic as this episode is, it’s super sweet and meaningful to see this experience open Big Mac up to share his feelings. This week we review a problematic pony fave, “Brotherhooves Social.” Check out our merchandise at our new Teepublic store! We've got lots of fun designs to choose from and more on the way! Are you ready for PRINCESSES??!?! People, it’s not a stretch to say that this is the most important episode we’ve covered thus far. It's a musical episode, Twilight is inventing new magic, there's a coronation - a whole lot of stuff gets packed in to what could have been the last-ever episode of this series. Who better to discuss this episode with than Pony-superfan and Apple Bloom to Diana's Applejack, Sarah Kinney! Don’t try to tell Granny Smith how to pick Zap Apples. She might just make you wear a bunny costume. It's Zap Apple season and the neon flowers are blooming. That can mean only one thing for Apple Bloom, though - a lot of weirdness and ridiculousness from Granny Smith. But as crazy as Granny seems, there's a tried-and-true method to her madness. Cutie marks aren’t made, they’re earned. At, least, not unless you want to risk the cutie pox...Every filly gets antsy for their cutie mark. But we’re not sure we’ve seen a filly quite as antsy as Apple Bloom. Everypony has skills and talents, but Apple Bloom is facing a dozen or more - and she can't control them. We’re not even sure Twilight can fix this problem; we may need Zecora to help us find the remedy. If you've got questions or comments you can email us at macintoshandmaud@gmail.comor leave a comment on the episode. Please subscribe and rate us on iTunes and use your best pony pun! Macintosh & Maud might have had enough of the Cutie Mark Crusaders. I mean, almost 1/3 of this episode is just a montage of the three fillies trying to find their cutie marks. Still, there's a rocking song right in the middle that's worth the price of admission. And we can't really fault Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle or Scootaloo - they're just fillies trying to find their way like anypony else.
