For our penultimate episode of Music Mayhem 2020, Matt chose one of the most successful albums of all time, Michael Jackson's THRILLER. THRILLER has it all: Beat It, Thriller, Billie Jean, that song with Paul McCartney, that one ballad, that other ballad, a couple of other ballads, and You Wanna Be Startin' Something, a song that has yet to come to an end. Listen, we all know why everyone picked up this album, and it was because of those three singles and their classic music videos. We definitely talk about those songs and even debate on which jacket is better: the Thriller jacket or the Beat It jacket? Trust us, it's a good one, smash that play button. Today on Episode 47 of Quarantine Radio, we make calls from our Upper West Side apartment to celebrated audio engineers Leslie Brathwaite, Alex Tumay and Anthony Cruz! First we jump on the phone with legendary mix engineer and multiple-Grammy Award winner Leslie Brathwaite to discuss his work with TLC, Beyonce, The Carters, Pharrell, Outkast, Jeezy, Lil Uzi Vert, Jack Harlow, Madonna, Cardi B and more, how he rests his ears and his soul, his relationships with artists and executives, what album made him sit up straight and open his eyes, what he believes sets Michael Jackson's Thriller album apart from the rest, the incredible creativity he's applying to his mixing environment since quarantine went into effect, the bird that attacked him while we were recording this very episode, and so much more! Then we call to the Lower East Side to catch up with the great Alex Tumay to discuss his bout with COVID-19, how crippling it was, his efforts in combating it, how it's changed the way he operates even after recovering, how it effected his work, why he and Kenny Beats collaborate so perfectly together, what a terrific experience it was to mix with 40 and PartyNextDoor on his latest project, and so much more! And finally we dial up Meek Mills' personal engineer Anthony Cruz to break down how he's spent the last two months, how fatherhood has been treating him, what it was like when he and Meek first listened to Jay Electronica's album in the studio, being a resource for artists who are at home learning to engineer themselves, trying to skip out on Zoom birthday parties, order studio equipment to his in-law's place and much more! For the last thirty-plus years we've been witness to many inventive, creative and groundbreaking music videos but now we here at GBW have decided that there can also be a disturbing and/or horrific side to them. Which is why we've each decided to pick our five favourite horror-related music videos. Covering various genres and with such things as murderous kids, doom-laden movie clips and dark industrial sounds these videos are ones we think do the genre proud. However, you're not going to find Michael Jackson's "Thriller" on these lists because we both agree it's the G.O.A.T. and it wouldn't of been fair to all the other great videos out there. But first we're talking about what we've been watching and it includes a return to the black metal realm, some top-notch found footage, an inventive 80's sci-fi flick, some more Jess Franco action, Lucio Fulci and much more! Thanks for listening! We're back with a round of weird ass short films this week. Joe Finkelstein teaches Audio-Video-Film class at The Hutchings College and Career Academy in the Bibb County Public School System, Macon, GA. He is focused on helping kids develop a purpose and pursue a future path. His own career path has had some very cool twists and turns. Two of my favorites: being an 800 number support staff member who answered the questions of the Olympic torch carriers and being a stand-up comedian in New York City. Awesome! Originally from the state of New Jersey, he attended the University of Georgia where he majored in journalism (emphasis on broadcast journalism). Joe is married to Ellen who he met at a party the night of the premiere of Michael Jackson's Thriller video on MTV. He recently celebrated his 27th wedding anniversary and has two sons. Joe first worked in New York City for a major advertising agency (McCann-Erickson) and then shifted to the publishing field. After moving to Atlanta in 1994, he eventually focused on becoming a teacher. He has been an EIP teacher, a 1st-grade teacher, a high school computer programming teacher, the robotics team sponsor, and now the Audio-Video-Film teacher. He is currently finishing his 4th year at Hutchings. Additionally, Joe also has become the voice for many events including several sports at Mercer Unversity located in Macon, GA. Joe's classes produce WVIP-TV and maintain a video site for the school district where all videos they produce are available on demand. Joe has incredible energy and a wonderful focus. I had fun talking to him and I think that you are going to enjoy listening! Thanks for being here! Enjoy! WVIP-TV website W.S. Hutchings College and Career Academy Length - 1:05:59

Band/Artist: Michael Jackson Album: Thriller, 1982 Composed by: Rod Temperton, produced by Quincy Jones Listen/Buy: Apple Music | Amazon | Spotify ------ A NOTE FROM KIRK: It’s been a couple months since I produced this episode, and just a few days since I watched the first part of “Leaving Neverland,” a devastating new HBO documentary in which two men, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, detail their alleged childhood sexual abuse at the hands of Michael Jackson. It’s an intense and difficult documentary to watch, but I recommend that everyone listening to this episode do so. Jackson’s estate denies it all, but watching people on camera relaying such painful memories, in such excruciating detail, is both wrenching and convincing. It’s impossible to separate an amazing song like “Thriller” from the man who sang it. I still think Thriller is a great song and admire the many people involved in making it, but hearing Robson and Safechuck’s accounts, on top of the similar stories I and the culture at large brushed aside or shrugged our shoulders at when they first surfaced many years ago, has certainly changed the way I hear Jackson’s voice. I’m leaving this episode as is, but I wanted to add this note, as well as to link to this New York Times editorial on Jackson’s legacy by Wesley Morris, which says so much, so well. ~KH 3/6/2019

Finally, the initial formation was completed with Alan Paul, gallant and singer in Broadway, New York, on October 1, 1972, which is considered the date of foundation of the group. They had the influence of vocal arranger Gene Puerling Although The Manhattan Transfer was already a recognized group in its environment by its colleagues and the critics, its definitive consecration was still missing, that would arrive in 1985 with Vocalese, where they interpreted the classics of jazz with lyrics contributed by Jon Hendricks, who was considered the genius that put lyrics to jazz. The song that titled the album was nominated for twelve awards, situation only surpassed in the history of the Grammy by Michael Jackson's Thriller

The Eagles' greatest hits album has moonwalked past Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to become history's best-selling album of all-time in the U.S.The Recording Industry Association of America told The Associated Press on Monday that the Eagles' album — "Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975" — is now certified 38x platinum, which means sales and streams of the album have reached 38 million copies. The album was released in 1976 and pushes Jackson's "Thriller," which is 33x platinum, to second place.RIAA also said that the Eagles' "Hotel California," released in 1977, is now 26x platinum and makes it the third best-selling album of all-time.The last time RIAA tallied sales for the Eagles' greatest hits album was in 2006, when it said it was 29x platinum. Sales and streams for "Thriller" were last updated last year."We are grateful for our families, our management, our crew, the people at radio and, most of all, the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the ups and downs of 46 years. It's been quite a ride," Don Henley said in a statement.RIAA's platinum status was once equivalent to selling one million albums or songs, but in 2013 the company began incorporating streaming from YouTube, Spotify and other digital music services to determine certification for albums and songs. Now 1,500 streams of an album is equivalent to an album sale. Also, 10 song downloads = 1 album sale. The Eagles, who formed in Los Angeles in the early 1970s, mastered the mix of rock 'n' roll and country music, and the band's hits — including "Hotel California" and "Take It Easy — became part of the soundtrack of that decade. They broke up in 1980, coming back together 14 years later with Henley and Glenn Frey being the only remaining original members. Frey died in 2016, but the Grammy-winning band remains on tour. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and received the Kennedy Center Honor in 2016.LISTEN TO KARL PUSCHMANN TALK WITH ANDREW DICKENS ABOVE
We started the podcast by not starting it the way it should start, with an intro. We actually just started talking about "Weekend at Bernie's" and the dance from Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Once we realized we should probably kick things off, we finally kicked it off. Going through introductions, we keep it very open. Honch was talking about his wife's coffee, he accidentally used the word corpse, but we assure you that his wife is alive. Apparently her coffee order is getting more complicated, and he is so mad about it. Why can't you just order a regular coffee? Cold pressed, brewed, a venti, smoked, double espressor, more cream. And not to totally go off the side, but what do people get when they are searching for BBC on the Internet? Do they really get the news, but get other results? After talking about coffee, we went onto wrestles, Macho Man, Hulk Hogan, and Owen Hart. So CVS is being sued - this is what happens; he was getting Viagra and paying cash, and his wife called about his medications, and found out that her husband was taking it. He is now going after the chain of pharmacies. Apparently, the man's marriage has broken down. What is the most temping that that isn't worth it? Honch thinks that it is anal - on either end of the conversation, as long as you give him a McCafe. Telling your wife "I told you so." is probably something you would regret. The D was tempted to use the meat slicer at the deli counter, which would probably always end in a devestation. A woman showed up to winning the lottery in an emoji mask. That is one way to show up so people don't know who you are at the end of the day. And have you ever purchased McDonalds and just left it out to see it not age? A man took a 6 year old Big Mac and fries and put them up for sale on eBay. The eBay team ended up taking them down. If you listen for anything, just listen because of the phrase "Raymond Noodles". And did you know that Ramen Noodles come on halves?
A tough Arizona cop is teamed with a lesbian cop to catch a serial killer who is murdering police officers. A few miles away, Adam and John discuss two 1980s icons and which would win, were they to fight.

Back in 2006, Stuck in the '80s was just a year old, but we felt fancy enough to honor Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album. The show, just 30 minutes long, was one of the first episodes we really felt good about when we were done. And not just for all the suggestive humor. Now, on Thriller's 35th anniversary, we go back in time to honor the album, the artist and the episode we recorded 11 years ago. Listen for some familiar voices and names and just smile. Stuck in the '80s in a proud member of the CLNS Media Network.
Hey welcome to episode 50 of Lighten Up with Melanie Dale. 50! We've made it to 50, guys, and I'm so excited that for the 50th episode I get to share my conversation with Chewbacca Mom Candace Payne with you. We've all seen her viral Facebook video wearing the Chewbacca mask, and it's impossible not to laugh right along with her. We do a lot of laughing together on the show, and talk about her happy Chewbacca tattoo, her lofty goal before she turns 40 (hint: it involves Michael Jackson's "Thriller"), being on the Late Late Show with James Corden, and her theories about The Last Jedi. We also chat about her faith journey, experiencing homelessness as a child, her new book, Laugh It Up, and how we can embrace defiant joy in the middle of hard times. With that first leg thankfully laid to rest, we look ahead to part two on Thursday. How will both teams set up? Can it get any worse than Sunday? And do the 'Caps have a realistic chance of doing the business once again on the road when no-one expects it? The guys talk about what they think about revelations from the recently wrapped-up San Diego Comic-Con, as well as what they've been up to. Chris and Nathan saw Spider-Man Homecoming. Dallas watched Captain America: Civil War, and Suicide Squad. Chris took in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and enjoyed it a lot more than the average Rotten Tomatoes rater. Mat and Cheeseburger take a tour of Michael Jackson's "Thriller," a John Landis directed music video that takes place in a dream, in a Vincent Price directed movie. While many consider "Thriller" to be one of the best music videos ever made, does it still hold up? After Cheeseburger and Mat discussed "Black or White," they're a bit skeptical. However, spoiler alert, "Thriller" is still awesome and has the best jacket featured in a music video of all time.
This week's episode of The GAR! Podcast is a long one, the incredible fourth of five episodes recorded live at the 2017 Camden Comic Con. First Glenn and friend of the show, the amazing Robert Repici, discuss the panels of the Con, including the one that they and Ray moderated later in the afternoon. They also discuss the guests of the panel – Amy Chu, Fred Van Lente, Dean Haspiel, and Larry Hama – the legendary silent issue of G.I. Joe, the Hydra Captain America, diversity in comics, the Justice Society, the Fox, and the art of storytelling. Next, in a special French Fry Diary segment, the GAR! con crew (Jennifer Walker of The Make Mine Magic Podcast, friends of the show Jeff Milliman and Jessy Lukens, and the returning Ray) try some of the fries from the food trucks assembled by the Camden Comic Con, even the kimchi ones, which Glenn rightfully refuses to try. There's also more discussion of energy drinks, and anti-vaxers. Thanks to Stink Fisher of The Pop Shop for the awesome burger. Then we finally meet the mythical David Lisa, the geekiest librarian in New Jersey, and the equally cool Janel Miller of the South Jersey Writers' Group, and we talk about the Echelon Mall, Michael Jackson's Thriller, computers, injectable contraceptives, old school phones, libraries, first movies, drive-in theaters, the etymology of dork, graphic novels, and of course, Fantastic Four. David recently re-read the first one hundred issues of the classic series, which made for an intriguing starting point for the discussion of the characters and the creators, favorite stories, the lost FF adventure, the Silver Surfer, reprints, Bullpen Bulletins, comic book movies, Avenger X, March, and the legacy and tragedy of Jack Kirby. The GAR! Podcast is the Glenn Walker and Ray Cornwall weekly podcast where they talk unrehearsed about whatever happens to come to mind. It's an audio-zine for your mind, a nerd exploration of a nerd world, coming to you from the suburbs of New Jersey and the sunny lakes of Florida via Skype. Chapter 1: The Making of Michael Jackson's "Thriller"
Gary Butterfield and Kole Ross begin their journey through R.E.M.'s full-length discography in earnest, by discussing the deeply earnest album Murmur. Quiet, dark, and weird, it was unlike anything people had heard. It sold like gangbusters, took Rolling Stone's "Album of the Year" over Michael Jackson's Thriller and U2's War, and gave our four boys a seat at the table. The links below are a comprehensive listening list, and we encourage you to listen to them before, alongside, and after the podcast. The next episode will be about Reckoning (http://amzn.to/2mFa6qt).
This week the boys made a return trip to Cloud 9 Comics on SE Clinton to visit the newly remodeled shop and check out some silver age comics. Next they took a walk down the block and had a pie over at Scottie's Pizza Parlor on SE Division. Listen to the end to hear the reviews on those fine establishments. On this episode we're talking new Batman director, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in Logan, Beauty And The Beast, Jude Law in King Arthur: Legend of The Sword and The Young Pope, Scarlett Johansson in Ghost In The Shell, Spider-Man & Thor, Hacksaw Ridge, Hellboy 3, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Legion, Humans Season 2, The Americans, Into The Badlands, Better Call Saul, Fargo, For Honor, Kona, we got a ton of Star Wars news, we discuss some of our favorite podcasts, what single men are like, how difficult it can be to end something, Paris Jackson, Maisie Williams, Centurylink's price gouging, and a whole crap ton of other things both pertaining to and not pertaining to all the other previously mentioned subjects. And we end it off with a rapid fire round of listener submitted questions. It's charming, in a sense. In 1982 Michael Jackson's “Thriller” became the best-selling album of all time, Walt Disney World opened the Epcot park, and Sony released the first commercial CD player. Bill and Brian start off the month of massive albums with the biggest and bestselling album of all time, Michael Jackson's Thriller (1982. Epic). Following up on the success of his collaboration with Quincy Jones on 1979's Off the Wall, Jackson re-teamed with the producer to create this career defining record. Hailed as the album that saved the music industry, no less than 7 of Thriller's 9 tracks were released as singles. Bill and Brian discuss how they view Michael Jackson, his career, and the legacy he created. They also talk about Brian's first experience with Jackson's music when he was in kindergarten, Jackson's development into a worldwide phenomenon, world music, legendary bass lines, the cult of personality, and as always a track by track review of the whole album!
Our guest, Quincy Jones III aka QDIII - Producer and digital/tech entrepreneur. You might not exactly say he came from humble beginnings, as the son of perhaps the greatest music producer the world has known. Young Quincy got to sit in on recording sessions for Michael Jackson's Thriller and tag along with big Quincy backstage with jazz and r&b greats. But, as he puts it, "I had the luxury in my opinion of growing up rich and poor,” spending most of his childhood with his mother in a working class home in Sweden. There, he learned to hustle on his own, as well as to take his talents to the streets, literally, as a champion breakdancer. Before moving back to the States, Quincy had released his first hit song and had already embraced the idea of reinvention, pivoting from dancing to making music. From there, the story just gets more interesting. From being immersed among the pioneers of hip hop to becoming a close friend and collaborator to 2Pac before his death, Quincy found himself at the epicenter of the culture. Next pivot: He leaves production behind and becomes a filmmaker, having tremendous success as one of the genre’s leading documentarians, most notably with the Beef DVD series that chronicled hip hop conflicts from LL and Ice-T to Biggie and 2Pac. And now he’s embarking on a new career developing technologies that leverage his vast experience in entertainment. His first app Wemes (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wemes-create-share-video-memes/id1023485444?mt=8) launched last month. Listen to learn how he’s done all of that, what he learned from mentors like LL Cool J and Ice Cube, and what motivates him to keep going. Leave us a comment about how you liked this episode, your favorite QDIII or QDII song, or just to wish us a happy birthday.
Michael Jackson's "Thriller" is arguably the greatest pop song ever. And it's definitely the scariest. This Halloween, we thought we'd take a crack at finding out what makes it so spooky, and why we can't stop listening to it.
In this week's episode Simon and Keith talk about John Landis, a director who is mostly known for his comedies, but has done the odd horror. He started working on films as a stuntman and assistant director before making his first feature film, Schlock, an independent film with a gorilla suit design by Rick Baker. From there he went on to make some of the biggest comedies of the 80s like TRADING PLACES and COMING TO AMERICA. He also revolutionised music videos with Michael Jackson's THRILLER. The films under discussion are THE BLUES BROTHERS, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, BEVERLY HILLS COP 3 and BLUES BROTHERS 2000. Movie Heaven Movie Hell is a show where filmmakers Simon Aitken (BLOOD + ROSES, POST-ITS, MODERN LOVE) and Keith Eyles (FEAR VIEW, DRIVEN INSANE, CROSSED LINES) go through the A-Z of directors. Simon and Keith talk about their favourite and least favourite film from that director's body of work. It's hard not to think of the 80's without thinking of the movies of John Landis. This is the guy who was responsible for making not only the movie that started the low-budget frat sex comedies that followed in its wake (Animal House) but also the greatest music video ever with Michael Jackson's "Thriller", a top notch werewolf flick (An American Werewolf in London), and one of the most raucous musicals in history with The Blues Brothers. Tune in as we talk about "The Landis". But first we talk about Josh's trip to Los Angeles, What We Do in the Shadows, the Alien series, and much more! Thanks for listening! Don't Run Over a Baby in the Middle of the Snow by James Altucher The car started to skid and swerve and we couldn't stop. It was all my fault. I had sped up while going into a sharp curve. I was just fooling around. The entire road was ice. My 12 year old kid was sitting next to me. Why did I do that? I don't know. Because I'm an idiot sometimes. I hope all people are idiots sometimes so I don't have to feel so bad but maybe it's just me. When we couldn't stop the car from skidding Mollie started screaming. We went into a snow drift and kept going. The snow was beautiful and white and we were over the top and sitting in a perfect white yard. I put it in reverse but the car was perched in the air above the snow bank. It wouldn't move forward or backward and the wheel just spun in the air. It was getting cold and dark. I had no shovel and when I went outside to try to kick away the snow around the wheel it seemed almost infinite. I kept kicking but my feet got cold and then I got cold and went back in the car. Mollie was disappointed in me. "What are we going to do now?" She said. She was angry. But I had no idea. I could have been disappointed. "Why me?" Or I could have been regretful. "Stupid me!" I could have also been scared. What if we are stuck all night? Or even worse, what if I don't stop by the pharmacy and run the errand I said I would run for Claudia! This is a great example of what I call a "difficult gratitude problem." Everyone says be "grateful." It's easy to be grateful when things are going well. Grateful for kids, wife, home, food, blah blah. It's much harder to be grateful when you know you are an idiot and everything bad is your fault. So here's what I am grateful for about crashing into the snow and being stuck in the night. I was totally irresponsible and foolish and it seemed like nothing good would come out of it. A) I spent more time with Mollie. She was disappointed in me at first. But then while we just sat there in the car doing nothing she showed me a game she was playing on her phone and we spent some time going back and forth, laughing, while she tried to explain her strategy for winning to me. B) We live in an amazing service world. I called Claudia, who called Honda, who called a towing service. It would take an hour but a towing service was on the way. I didn't even have my phone. Mollie had her phone. Total cost: $0. We had some sort of insurance for an unlicensed irresponsible father crashing into snow banks on an icy road in the night. C) It takes a village. First one person passed and said, "do you need help?" Then another. Then another. One person helped me shovel. Another person got his own tow truck out. Another person kept finding more chains to link the two cars to help me. Strangers wanted to help. I feltgood about that. D) I learned about cars. I said to the first guy: "I think my car is broken now." He laughed. He didn't even know what that meant. He said it just needed to be moved a little and it would be all right. He told me to cancel the towing service. We figured I had "front wheel drive". I didn't know what that was. He said, "it means the front wheels drive. Not the back wheels." And he showed me where the strap goes when a tow truck tows another car. E) Rope beats Chain beats Nylon. My car was really baked into the snow. It was like the candle in a cake. We couldn't drag it out. We tried a nylon strap. Then a metal chain. Both broke. Eventually a rope worked. F) We had a party. The reason I was outside was I just dropped off my older kid to her "sweet 16" sleepover with friends. Meanwhile, about 7 of us adults were outside in the cold trying to get my car out of the snow. We were laughing because this was our version of an adult sweet 16. I seldom go to parties for more than 30 minutes. This was about an hour of hangingout and talking to people. G) I didn't finish the errand. By the time the car was out, the pharmacy had closed. I never got the medication. And then it turned out Claudia didn't need it. Which is good because the side effects were bad. H) Hot chocolate. After the car was out, instead of going home, I took Mollie for hot chocolate. While we were having hot chocolate I had us do an exercise: where does she see our relationship in five years (she's 12) and where do I see it? We didn't finish the exercise but we talked about the importance of doing exercises like that. I'm glad she still listens to me even though she knows her father definitely shows signs of severe stupidity. She said, "we had an adventure tonight!" Adventures are good for little kids. Sometimes for adults also. I) I got to listen to music. For a while I was sitting in the car alone while I was waiting. Mollie was in the house where the sweet 16 was with her older sister. I hardly ever listen to music I like in the car. There was a "top 40" from this week in 1984. I will be honest: 1984 was the best year in history for music. I listened to John Lennon's "Nobody Told Me There Would Be Days Like These." Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and a song I forget the title to bySheena Easton. Go 1984! J) I felt happy. When the towing finally worked with the rope strap, I felt "Hurray!" I probably would not have felt that happy if I had just driven straight home. I got out of the car and shook everyone's hand. Everybody laughed. Everyone was happy even though this had taken up an hour of their time on a Saturday night. Maybe they felt glad they could help. I also probably learned a lesson. Don't speed up on a curve on a road made of ice with snow all around at night. I say "probably" because who can predict? I make mistakes all the time. Difficult gratitude problems are how you exercise the gratitude muscle. Don't waste it on easy gratitude problems. Believe it or not, exercising the gratitude muscle helps solve digestive problems and makes it easier to sleep and even helps people with cancer and polio. I'm not kidding. When we were having a hot chocolate later, Mollie told me something she was scared of in her life. Something that might happen in the future a year or two from now that she hopes doesn't happen. I asked her to write down all the things she predicts in the future and see which ones come true. So she will know her success rate as a psychic. She laughed because she knew I was making fun of her. I also told her there could be worse things. And she said, "like what?" And I said, "well, I could've run over a baby while driving the car just now." She laughed, "why would there've been a baby crawling across the road in the middle of the night?" "Well," I said, "I don't know. But that would be worse." Click here to listen to today's episode of Ask Altucher. Regards, James P.S. My new book is finally out! I've been quietly working on this new volume for the better part of the year. Many are telling me it's my best book yet. I'd love to hear your feedback. My new book is all about money – how to make it, keep it, grow it, and enjoy it. This book is not yet available on Amazon, but you can get a copy ...

We all have them, those friends that just don't get it. I've lived my adult life loving Techno in almost all its forms. I have also lived with the knowledge that we have historically been a counter culture to the mainstream. That was one of the reasons I got into this music to begin with. Man do I ever hate Pop music. That's not to say I don't have Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and "Bad" on vinyl, but the pop of the 80s is part of the reason I love Techno today. How much inspiration have we all taken from that era? One of the most common complaints I get whenever I DJ for a non-house-head crowd, or try to bring some techno or house music to the attention of a pop music fan is "This all sounds the same, there are no words I can sing to!" Challenge Accepted! I did a mix years ago now when I lived in Vancouver for my cousin who just couldn't wrap her head around Techno. She was used to singing out her favorite songs on the radio and was just unfamiliar with taking in the sonic tapestry of an instrumental track, more specifically of a whole hour of them! "Hey I get it, there is something visceral and ancestral about vocal music, it's where music started after all.", I said. So I proceeded to create a Progressive House mix made up of all vocal tracks. That was tough back in the days of Vinyl as I had to peel through a relatively modest collection by today's standards. This months mix is the start of a new series that I have had the pleasure of compiling in order to try to introduce this music to another un-initiated. My goal is to slowly ramp up to the non-verbal mixes that make this group of genres so compelling to me but to start with... A mix of all Vocal tracks! And let me assure you, even I was surprised by how many I have been able to compile over the last decade of digital music. Hence we have another Rob C series on our hands and hopefully some classic mixes for you all to enjoy in the years to come! RC

This week we talk about the Drew Carey Show, Vice President "Diamond" Joe Biden, remember ringtone commercials, and take a call about Michael Jackson's Thriller.
A new series in which each week Stuart Maconie examines the final album by a major artist. This week, Synchronicity by The Police. Released in 1983, it was the band's fifth album and it hit the number one spot on both sides of the Atlantic. In America, it knocked the commercial juggernaut of Michael Jackson's Thriller from the top of the charts, selling over 8 million copies in the process. It also produced five international hit singles, including their most famous track Every Breath You Take. As Sting & co toured the world to promote their most successful release, each night playing 60,000 seater venues, at that point in their career they could genuinely lay claim to being the biggest band on planet Earth. Although the split was never officially announced, Synchronicity was to be the last studio album they would ever record. Despite all of the success, the truth was the three members couldn't stand to be in the same room as each other. With archive interviews from Sting and Andy Summers and brand new contributions from Stewart Copeland, manager Miles Copeland, producer Hugh Padgham and journalist John Pidgeon, Stuart Maconie examines what went wrong.
