Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air! This week, we talk about how hype can help or hurt brands. Naturally, there are plenty of other topics on the docket, including television, German culture, and more!Hype is a funny thing. Nearly everyone or every company wants it, but at some point, enough can be enough. From one-hit wonders to oversaturation, there is no shortage of examples of when a once-popular topic becomes played out or hackneyed. While we aren't here to predict which brands could fall prey to such a situation, we do talk about some models and strategies that are working well or flying very close to the sun.HandgelenkskontrolleWe kick off our episode regarding hype with an interesting chat about German garden houses, known as Schrebergartens or Kleingartens. These little huts are an interesting sight for foreigners who often wonder if they are looking at a strange encampment. This discussion is connected to a chat on lawn art, including gnomes and orbs. For television, Mike has been watching Ponies on Sky, and Balazs just finished the Man on Fire series. Regarding the Handgelenkskontrolle, Mike continues his Heuer love with the chocolaty Camaro 7220 NT. Balazs has brought back a fan favorite with the Omega Speedmaster Professional Speedy Tuesday 1.Hype and its effects on brandsWe kick off our discussion about hype and its potential effects on different companies with a brief tale about the luggage brand, Rimowa. It seems that unscrupulous sellers are now hawking counterfeit versions of the well-known aluminum suitcases. This raises a fundamental question: whether a brand begins to lose its luster when the hype is so large that fakes begin to appear. The answer is complex and inconsistent. Or what happens when a brand suddenly goes after a new set of buyers, which can turn off its traditional core fans? We pose these questions around Rolex, Omega, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Tudor, Grand Seiko, Ming, Panerai, and more. Brands such as Porsche and Ferrari also make an entrance. Of course, our thoughts differ depending on the situation, what the brand is trying to achieve, and how they behave when a person enters a store. Listen in and provide your thoughts. We hope you enjoyed today's episode, and we look forward to bringing you more! As always, let us know if you have future topic ideas, and thank you for listening.

Legendary “Cayuse pony” breed gave Indians far more endurance and speed than settlers' mounts, a fact that cost gambler and horseman Joe Crabb most of his ready cash on “The Day Pendleton Went Bankrupt” (Pendleton, Umatilla County; 1870s) (For text and pictures, see https://offbeatoregon.com/1404a.cayuse-tribes-legendary-ponies.html)
Dartmoor is famous for its semi-wild hill ponies that roam across the moorland. But concerns have been raised by the Dartmoor Hill Pony Association that new agri-environment schemes will require such a steep drop in the numbers of grazing livestock in the area that up to 93 percent of the ponies will be lost. We hear from the association's Secretary, Joss Hibbs.Next year will be the last that farmers in England receive direct subsidy payments, based on how much land they farm. Direct payments have been particularly important for upland farmers in areas like the Lake District, where they are now being replaced by environmental schemes. Caz Graham speaks to two generations of a Lake District farming family about the continued viability of upland farming. The Government has published fresh guidance this week for farmers and food businesses to help them prepare for the new sanitary and phytosanitary - or SPS - agreement between the UK and the European Union, which is expected to be brought in in around a year's time. The Government says the SPS agreement will make it easier for British farmers to sell into the EU, but it could also mean a change in the agro-chemicals farmers can legally use on their crops, and if the rules change suddenly, there are concerns farmers could be left with crops grown under the old rules, which they could no longer sell under the new rules. UK peatlands - an important habitat for wildlife and a major carbon sink - are facing pressure from development, intensive land use and a changing climate, with around 80% believed to be degraded. In Wales however, the National Peatland Action Programme has completed over three and half thousand hectares of restoration work since 2020. In the Cambrian Mountains the project has been so successful that water voles have arrived in the area. A study out this week from Lantra - a charity which provides training and qualifications in land-based industries - says that there are jobs in farming, fishing and forestry that are not being filled because of a so-called 'skills squeeze'. This comes a week after a much-discussed report, commissioned by the government, which found that job opportunities for young people are shrinking, with one million classed as NEETS - not in education, employment or training. We ask if land-based work is part of the solution.Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Jo Peacey. A BBC Audio Bristol production.
Concerns have been raised that new agri-environment schemes will require such a steep drop in the numbers of grazing livestock that 90% of Dartmoor ponies will be lost. We're talking about upland farming all this week, and this morning we hear how the phasing out of the old EU farm payments are affecting English hill farmers, with two generations of a Lake District farming family. It's twenty years ago this summer that a group of farmers put their heads together and decided to set aside a particular day when they'd all open up their farms to the general public. It was a fairly radical idea at the time, driven by a desire to address the disconnect between urban populations and farming, and inspired by a similar project in Denmark. That was the very first Open Farm Sunday which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this weekend.Presented by Caz Graham and produced by Beatrice Fenton.

We welcome a Dish listener who's been a fan since day one! There's a whole lot of love around the Dish table as we welcome long-time listener, first-time visitor, Emilia Clarke. The actor, known for her incredible and life-changing role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game Of Thrones, brings her passion for food, Nick, Angela and martinis to a special episode marking the fourth anniversary of Dish. Emilia starts by showing why writing down your food likes when slightly hungover makes for a long and salty list. But what a list it is, as we get great detail about the fish, vegetables and meats that whet Emilia's appetite, as well as the specific textures and ingredients that don't make it onto her plate. Emilia is also a regular cook, who is willing to take on any challenge when making food for friends and family, or herself while away on set. Emilia can currently be seen in PONIES, a 70s spy thriller set in Russia, which is currently available to watch on Sky and Now in the UK and Ireland. Emilia and co-star Haley Lu Richardson play two women working at the US embassy in Moscow who, after the mysterious deaths of their husbands in a plane crash, become CIA agents to investigate what happened. The role came with Emilia having to master Russian, a skill which she did with the help of a very impressive memory palace. The episode begins over a glass of Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Champagne and a start of tomato tonnato salad. It's followed by rack of lamb, inspired by this recipe for super greens vignole with lamb steaks, and there's even enough time for an elderflower & mint martini. The Waitrose wine experts paired the meal with a bottle of Villa Cafaggio Chianti Classico. Cheers Emilia... and happy fourth birthday to us, too! Voice Of Costume - Creating Character through Costume Design
A 1970s spy thriller shouldn't look gray—and Anastasia Magoutas explains how color, character, and costume rewrite the Cold War. Costume designer Anastasia Magoutas joins Voice of Costume to discuss designing PONIES for Peacock, starring Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson, and how she built a vibrant, stylish, emotionally grounded 1970s spy world. Raised in Queens by Greek immigrant parents, Anastasia shares how curiosity, theater, art school, NYU, and hands-on collaboration shaped her path from acting and directing into costume design. She breaks down the creative philosophy behind the show: rejecting the flat "gray Soviet filter" often used in Cold War stories and instead creating a world full of color, humor, danger, aspiration, and real people living complicated lives. Anastasia dives into sourcing vintage 1970s fashion, using LA and European costume houses, building hero coats, duplicating key garments for stunts, and finding the difference between American casual cool and European vintage elegance. The episode also explores the contrast between Bea and Twyla—one precise, polished, and controlled; the other rebellious, chaotic, and "the right kind of wrong." Anastasia shares how trust, long-term creative relationships, fear, perfectionism, and community helped her deliver a costume world that feels cinematic, character-driven, and unforgettable. The "Voice of Costume" is the first podcast created between working costume designers sharing stories, inspiration, struggles, and insights into the creative career of costume design. A behind-the-scenes podcast to showcase the voices of Costume Designers around the world. Listen in on this inspirational, one-on-one conversation with Catherine Baumgardner. Mo Walker joins Matt and Dawn to review four new shows available to watch this week. First, The Burroughs from Netflix, which functions almost as an elderly version of Stranger Things set inside a retirement community, led by performances from Alfred Molina and Geena Davies. Next, on Sky, Ponies, a series set in the 70's which focuses on two men who go undercover with the CIA. The BBC's Two Weeks in August which could be seen as an attempt to make a British version of The White Lotus but plays more like a terrible sequel to a Channel 5 drama the team hated years ago. Lastly, Dawn's favourite new show, Apple TV's Widow's Bay, which follows a Mayor played by the always brilliant Matthew Rhys, in a cursed town. For our quiz, Dawn challenges the boys to name as many Game of Thrones cast members as they can.
Want some TV recommendations? Yeah, you do. This month we're chatting about Legends, Ponies, Widow's Bay and Believe Me, as well as some good and bad news about what's still to come this year, plus what should probably never have been on the telly in the first place. Mustang enthusiasts “in the know” already know that the annual Ponies In The Smokies show is one of the top must-see events in the country. (To see why, check out our Podcast Playlist to see John and Mike's own coverage from last year's Ponies show.) With its assortment of fun activities, spectacular venue at the Sevierville Convention Center and close proximity to the famed “Tail Of The Dragon” driving route, PITS has become a bucket-list event. So it should be no surprise that Show Me Mustang Club President Jerry Watkins and club co-founder Mitch Mitchell decided to jump in Jerry's Shelby GT350 and head for Pigeon Forge, TN, to join in the fun. But while heading out to take on the Tail Of The Dragon before the show, catastrophestruck: They got broadsided by a Kia! They both survived the crash but the GT350 was totaled. How would they get back to their hotel from the hospital? What's going to happen to the car? How will they get home so far away from their home in St. Louis? Listen in as Jerry explains how some fellow club members and the Mustang Brotherhood and Sisterhood stepped in – not only to help them get around and experience the show, but also to even find a replacement ride for the smashed GT350. Listen in as Jerry reveals this incredible story (plus his new car) while John and Mike confirm what great friends we all have in the Mustang enthusiast community!Don't forget to Like, Subscribe and leave a Comment. Plus, show that you're a true Mustang insider by wearing Mustang Owner's Podcast branded apparel, available on TheSVTstore.com!

It's that time of the year again when the few of us who care about horse racing actually discuss it. Essex attorney and former delegate Todd Schuler returns to Koco's Pub on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour to discuss Preakness ponies not at Pimlico, Triple Crown dreams sold off to the Churchill gypsies and insurance companies ponying up in court when they're not doing what the TV ads say they will. The post Essex attorney Todd Schuler talks Preakness ponies and insurance companies ponying up in court first appeared on Baltimore Positive WNST.
This week, Scott sat down with his Lawfare colleagues Eric Columbus, Molly Roberts, and Loren Voss to talk through a few of the week's big news stories, including:•“Meet Joe Flack.” The Justice Department's ongoing investigation into the alleged “grand conspiracy” against President Trump in relation to the 2016 elections and their aftermath has entered a new phase this week with the appointment of Joseph diGenova, a former Reagan-era U.S. Attorney and political commentator, as counselor to the Attorney General in charge of the investigation. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Justice Department may be preparing to bring charges against former CIA Director John Brennan, a vocal Trump critic, whom diGenova has previously called a “traitor” in interviews with Fox News, even after the career attorney previously in charge of the investigation withdrew. What should we make of diGenova's new role in this investigation? And how seriously should we take these attempts to prosecute Brennan and others allegedly involved in the “grand conspiracy”?•“No Occupation Without Representation.” A district court officially closed out Trump v. Illinois this week, that case that ultimately led the Supreme Court to invalidate the grounds on which the Trump administration had federalized and deployed national guard troops to several states last year over the objections of their governors. But while those deployments have ended, other deployments remain ongoing – including the more than 2,500 soldiers that are still on the streets of Washington, D.C., whose deployments are expected to last as long as 2029. What are the limits on these other forms of domestic deployment? And what space does Trump v. Illinois leave for the Trump administration to renew more aggressive deployments if it sees fit?•“Hungary for Change.” Last week, Hungary voted to end the sixteen year reign of Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Fidesz Party, which have been frequently cited as models for President Trump and his MAGA movement. This was in spite of a last minute visit by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, which unsuccessfully sought to shore up support for Orban in the waning days of the campaign. How do we see Orban's defeat playing out in the U.S. as the conservative movement begins to think about what comes next after the Trump presidency? For object lessons, Eric recommended The Brick as a way to stop the noise of the internet from distracting you from your work (on your phone, at least). Molly showed off her matryoshka, or Russian nesting dolls, in celebration of the step back in Russian influence in Hungary. Scott celebrated in his own way, by recommending the new spy series Ponies, not so much for its authenticity, but for its incredibly stylish take on 1970s Moscow. And Loren recommended that D.C. locals stop by her favorite chai place, Afghan Chai in Dupont Circle. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The digital iron curtain just fell. This week, we dive into the total communications blackout in Moscow and St. Petersburg as the Kremlin panics over satellite photos of their burning oil terminals. But the internet ban is just the beginning. We're tracking the terminal phase of the Russian economy: the 39% food-poverty trap, the mandatory 15% labor purges, and the terrifying "Soviet" plan to confiscate 67 trillion rubles in civilian bank accounts. Meanwhile, the military-industrial complex is a grift. We look at the scavenged reality of the trenches, where Russian troops are crowdfunding DIY rocket tubes and using electric kick-scooters for assaults, while the elite hallucinate about a thousand new passenger jets.Support the Perun Battalion!
