The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church pet controversy has now exploded across the world, with headlines in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada and beyond. After reports emerged that a child connected to the Hales family was bitten by a dog, new ministry regarding pets was reportedly read out across the PBCC internationally. Families have been left devastated, terrified and confused as dogs, cats, birds and other pets suddenly became the focus of urgent ministry. But this is not new.Former members still remember the horror of the original anti-pet ministry from the 1960s, when beloved family animals were removed in heartbreaking and often deeply inhumane ways in the name of obedience. And yet, in recent years after COVID, pets had quietly started appearing again in some Brethren homes. Some former members even claim local priests were allowing pets if it helped persuade families to stay inside the church as more people quietly began leaving. So what changed? This episode of Lady Whistleblown's Brethren Dispatch looks at the contradictions, the hypocrisy, the loyalty tests, and the deeper emotional control behind the latest ministry. Why is there emergency global ministry over pets, yet no worldwide emergency readings over child abuse, drink driving, or protecting victims? Why does the Rapid Relief Team publicly promote Cookie the kookaburra as a comforting mascot with stuffed toys and emotional symbolism, while inside the church members are reportedly told that pets are spiritually dangerous and take affection away from “God”?And what did Revelation actually mean when it spoke about “dogs” outside the gates? The deeper you look into this story, the stranger it becomes.#PBCC #PlymouthBrethrenChristianChurch #ExclusiveBrethren #RapidReliefTeam #BruceHales #CultAwareness #LadyWhistleblown #GetALifePodcast
A new business survey reveals a growing number of employers are considering leaving the state, citing taxes, regulations, and overall business climate. In this episode of Washington In Focus Daily, we break down the biggest stories impacting families, businesses, and policy across the state.
China Controls Our Antibiotics. That's Not a Trade Issue — It's a Health Crisis. Dr. Terri and EVEXIAS co-founder Dan DeNeui just got off a two-week sprint through Washington, from the MAHA event with Secretary Kennedy and Dr. Oz, to lunch with former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, to the America's First Policy Institute conference. What they brought back isn't political talking points. It's a clear-eyed picture of where medicine is headed, and how close we are to a crisis most people haven't even thought about. Peptides are legally back on the table, for now. But the two and a half years they were off market created a gray market that's still operating, still cutting corners, and still putting patients at risk. Meanwhile, the peptide stacks trending on TikTok aren't just sketchy, they're illegal, and the practitioners prescribing them are going to find out the hard way. Dr. Terri and Dan explain exactly what's safe, what's not, and how to tell the difference. Then there's the supply chain conversation nobody is having loudly enough. Over 80% of the active pharmaceutical ingredients used to make American medications, including antibiotics, come from China and India. The same is true for fertilizer. If either of those supply lines gets cut, it's not an economic problem. It's a warfare problem. Your cells don't care what party you voted for. They just know they need to function. This one is for anyone who wants to understand what's actually happening at the intersection of health policy, food security, and medicine, and why it matters to them personally. What you'll discover: What Dr. Terri and Dan took away from the MAHA event and their conversation with Scott Gottlieb [03:29] Why MAHA is not a political issue — and why your cells don't know if you're a Democrat or Republican [04:58] The peptide gray market: what it is, how it grew, and why it's still dangerous [09:03] The sushi rule for compounding pharmacies — and how to know if yours is cutting corners [12:00] Why EVEXIAS sued the FDA over peptides — and what that means for their credibility in this space [13:13] Peptide stacks: why mixing compounds in a single vial is illegal, unpredictable, and putting practitioners at risk [17:35] The $99 GLP-1 question — and the patient who died of acute pancreatitis from an online platform [24:20] Why fertilizer supply is a national security issue — and what one fertilizer manufacturing plant means for your food [31:36] The API supply chain problem: why China controlling our antibiotic ingredients is a form of warfare [34:58] Why hormone optimization with pellet therapy is still the best place to start — and Dr. Terri's 84-year-old mom as proof [30:04] The decisions being made in Washington right now will directly affect the medications you can access, the food on your table, and the healthcare you receive for decades to come. Dr. Terri and Dan break it all down — so you're not caught off guard. ---- The Dr. Terri Show is presented by EVEXIAS Health Solutions. In this issue of Lady Whistleblown's Brethren Dispatch, we look at a question that has remained unanswered for years — where are the teachers? For decades, teachers working within OneSchool Global and Brethren schools have been in a unique position — outside the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, yet close enough to see what happens inside. Many former students have now spoken out about their experiences, but far less has been heard from those who taught them. That may be starting to change. We've begun receiving information and testimonies from current and former teachers, raising serious questions about contracts, expectations, and what has been known — and kept quiet — over many years. This video explores those questions, and why the silence may be breaking now.#plymouthbrethrenchristianchurch #pbcc #exclusivebrethren #oneschoolglobal #rapidreliefteam #cult #cultawareness #brucehales
There's a story being pushed right now inside the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church about a man who's come back after 30 years. They're calling it a “prodigal son” moment. A return and a success story. But that's not what this is.Those 30 years weren't just him being “lost.” What happened to him started inside, with abuse he experienced before he ever left. What came after that... the addiction, the violence, the brain injury... didn't come out of nowhere. And through all of that, no one went looking for him. No one stepped in. No one helped. Now suddenly, he's back and it's being celebrated. Publicly! Like something has been restored. But he's going back into the same environment. The same people. Nothing has been dealt with.So the question is pretty simple — where was all of this care when it actually mattered?#plymouthbrethrenchristianchurch #exclusivebrethren #pbcc #rapidreliefteam #oneschoolglobal #brucehales #cultawareness #cult
In this very special issue we are once again live from my absolute favorite convention Penguicon. This year OND was specifically invited back to bring our shenanigans by Con Chair Heather Williams so it was only fitting that we brought her to the microphone for the show. We were also joined by two very special Guests of Honor, acclaimed author of the Dresden Files and the Codex Alera Jim Butcher and author of the Honor Harrington series and other numerous works David Weber. We pour one out for meme legend Chuck Norris, share stories about things we found in old book stores, and talk about being nerd parents.
Inside the PBCC, when abuse happens, it doesn't get dealt with properly. It gets turned around, and you grow up being taught that if something went wrong, it must somehow be your fault. Even when you were a kid and had no power in the situation. That shame sticks, and it's used to keep people quiet. And if you don't stay quiet, there are consequences. People get pushed out, cut off, talked about. Right now there are people who have come forward and aren't even being allowed access to a psychologist. That alone should tell you what's going on.This isn't just a few bad situations. It's how it works. Protect the image, protect the institution, and deal with anyone who threatens that.Something has to change. People deserve to be able to speak without losing everything. They deserve proper support, access to therapy of their choice, and real accountability.
In this edition of Lady Whistleblown's Brethren Dispatch, society finds itself discussing a most delicate matter — the curious relationship between loyalty and money.Within the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, loyalty is often spoken of as a spiritual virtue. Yet for years, whispers have circulated suggesting that business opportunities, financial arrangements, and influence sometimes appear to follow those same lines of loyalty. In a tightly connected global community of more than fifty-five thousand members, business networks and personal allegiance can become deeply intertwined. To some observers, the question quietly emerges: where does faith end… and where might financial expectation begin?Naturally, those within the Brethren world insist that these relationships are simply the result of trust and cooperation among members of the community. But when money and loyalty appear in the same conversation, even the most polite drawing rooms of society cannot help but whisper. And when whispers travel far enough…they eventually reach Lady Whistleblown's desk.
What happens when a group that does not recruit… suddenly does?In this latest dispatch, Lady Whistleblown turns her attention to a most curious situation within the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church — one where long-standing rules appear to bend, narratives quietly shift, and certain details do not quite align.Whispers within the Ton suggest that the story being presented publicly may not be the full account. Questions have begun to circulate about changing histories, unexpected involvement from within the community, and relationships that may not be as simple as they appear. At the centre of it all are vulnerable children, fractured family connections, and a situation that raises an uncomfortable question:Who are the real victims here?
In this edition of Lady Whistleblown's Brethren Dispatch, a most curious spectacle is placed under the lens of polite society. What began as a modest weekly chronicle of whispers has quickly grown into something rather more substantial. As reports accumulate regarding the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church and its charitable arm, the Rapid Relief Team, Lady Whistleblown observes the increasingly elaborate efforts to manage reputation, narrative, and public perception. From legal manoeuvres and carefully orchestrated diversions to a globe-spanning podcast production discussing the virtues of Maple Creek, the story begins to resemble a theatrical performance of remarkable scale. One might almost admire the choreography.Yet when the spectacle becomes quite so elaborate, even the most seasoned observers of society cannot help but raise an eyebrow.Indeed… one might say that even the Devil appears to be taking notes.#plymouthbrethrenchristianchurch #pbcc #exclusivebrethren #maplecreek #cultawareness #cult #brucedhales
In this dispatch, Lady Whistleblown examines disturbing testimony now emerging from within the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC) — testimony that some observers have begun referring to as “The PBCC Epstein Files.” A survivor describes years of abuse beginning in childhood within the Brethren community, allegedly involving multiple men in positions of religious authority. The survivor later moved within the orbit of senior PBCC leadership in Sydney, including Bruce Hales, the long-time global leader of the church, and Gareth Hales. The allegations described are now part of an active police investigation into this abuse. As these testimonies begin to surface, questions are growing about the culture of silence, power, and protection within the PBCC — and whether distractions and public controversies are being used to divert attention from far more serious issues. This dispatch explores the allegations, the historical context inside the Brethren movement, and why a growing number of voices believe the full story is only just beginning to emerge.
From the Desk of Lady WhistleblownDearest Gentle Reader…Every society — whether gathered in grand ballrooms or behind far more modest doors — possesses its own peculiar customs, alliances, and whispered intrigues. And where such intrigues exist, there will always be someone observing them. You may think you know where the truth resides. You may believe the stories circulating among polite company. Yet those who watch carefully often discover that the most revealing details are seldom spoken aloud. It is therefore with great delight that this humble correspondent introduces a new series of dispatches arriving from within the social circles of a most curious community. The author of these letters — known to us only as Lady Whistleblown — has chosen to remain anonymous. From her vantage point within the Ton, she has undertaken the delicate task of recording the small hypocrisies, curious coincidences, and remarkable spectacles that polite society might prefer to keep quietly out of sight. Her observations arrive as whispers carried on the breeze… though some may find they echo rather loudly once printed.Readers are, of course, free to decide for themselves whether these matters are scandal, coincidence, or simply the natural comedy of human affairs. But one thing is certain. When Lady Whistleblown writes, society listens.About This Issue:In this inaugural dispatch, Lady Whistleblown examines a most intriguing sequence of events involving the Rapid Relief Team — a charitable organization known for its impressive public presence beneath bright red tents and its well-documented enthusiasm for humanitarian relief. For a few years now, allegations of abuse raised by a former member of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church circulated quietly in media and online spaces with little apparent legal urgency. Then, quite suddenly, a new concern emerged. Not regarding the allegations themselves… but regarding copyright.More specifically, copyright connected to a video involving a bird. The timing, as Lady Whistleblown observes with some curiosity, has raised a number of eyebrows among attentive observers. And so the first dispatch begins — with the most remarkable of coincidences, and a bird that appears to have fluttered into the centre of a rather larger story.
After our holiday break, we are back with another rambling episode. We share some stories about our kids, we talk about what is going on with Star Wars, and we plug Penguicon and our upcoming live recording.

Episode 5 of On The Record, and the conversation has hit its sweet spot: loose, curious, opinionated—and occasionally interrupted by reality. There's a healthy scepticism about hype, a refusal to confuse longevity with importance, and a shared belief that some things still genuinely matter—even if the algorithm disagrees. Brian Wise brings context and deep musical memory; Michael Mackenzie brings reflection, curiosity, and the occasional philosophical swerve. Together, they interrogate nostalgia without fully surrendering to it, defend enthusiasm when it's earned, and question why so much modern culture feels like it's passing time rather than saying something. There are laughs, strong opinions, thoughtful pauses, and moments where the conversation snaps into focus just long enough to land a point before wandering off again. It's not a panel show, not a lecture, and definitely not a hot take factory. Episode 5 doesn't shout. It knows what it's doing. Sort of. Recently, the utter mismanagement of airline bookings (Indigo) and a fire disaster (Goa club) shook the world. Unfortunately, it didn't shake the nation. In whatever we saw, the blame went solely and squarely to the end parties i.e, Indigo and the Goa club. The governing bodies - the Civil Aviation Ministry, the Goa municipality, and the Fire Services - were not blamed at all. They are there only to take our money, but do nothing. THAT is the problem with India. THAT is why everyone wants a government job.

May came in like a lion and out at point five past light speed. In this issue we pour one out for a TV Icon. We cover the most important OND May tradition, another round of "Weed Strain or Racehorse". In another story of John's Poor Impulse Control we have a reading from the Australian Bogan translation of "War and Peace". We learn how Gen Z is killing the Yakuza and cover a local rash of brazen Pokemon robberies.
After a rather lengthy hiatus due to tragic technology death, OND is back... again. Recorded on the holiday formally known as Easter Rojen and I pour one out for a lengthy role call of celebrities, catch up on the cavalcade of things we missed, more stories of "It Came from John's Poor Impulse Control", and we discuss why we are both currently in love with physical media. With luck, we'll be back with more shows as we now witness the power of my fully operational podcasting station.
Ready for the latest insights in prehospital care? In this episode, we're diving into an eye opening question in emergency medicine: could giving just a single dose of epinephrine during cardiac arrest be more effective than the standard approach? This topic isn't just about changing a drug protocol—it challenges the way we think about resuscitation itself. We're spotlighting a new study that's sparking important conversations in the field, and it's part of a broader theme in the latest issue of Prehospital Emergency Care, which also features articles on pediatric emergencies, compelling case studies, and new insights into cardiac arrest care. It's a summer without blockbuster movies so far so in this issue of Old Nerds Drinking we discuss possibly one of the strangest movies ever made that was so weird even Rojen, connoisseur of weird and strange movies, was blown away. We finally talk about the amazing Fallout tv show from Amazon Prime and get to talk a little bit about the Acolyte on the Star Wars front.
Arriving in Philadelphia after deejaying in her native New York and Washington D.C., where she was known for a time as “Ebony Moonbeams,” Dyana Williams established the popular radio show “Love on the Menu” for radio station WDAS and later Soulful Sundays for Classix 107.9. The latter show lasting for 12 years before signing off for the last time in 2020. Even with her luminous on-air career, Dyana's contributions behind the scenes have been even more impactful. Formerly married to music producer Kenny Gamble (Gamble & Huff), Williams has long been associated with the “Sound of Philadelphia” (Patti LaBelle, McFadden & Whitehead, Teddy Pendergrass, etc.) and has produced documentaries, founded and led organizations and mentored countless emerging artists, a passion that she continues to pursue. But perhaps her most lasting gift to us is her role in the founding of Black Music Month. Its initial recognition in 1979 was the beginning of a process that Dyana would shepherd until it was written into law by congress and proclaimed first by President Clinton in 2000 and again by Presidents Obama and Biden. Read more about Dyana in Issue No. 7 of AphroChic magazine.

Child poverty levels fell dramatically — nearly in half — in 2021 with the help of pandemic-era government programs and cash assistance. But with those programs gone, poverty in the United States looks pretty much the same as it has for the past 50 years, despite an overall increase in how much we're spending on welfare. This has us wondering: Why is that? On the show today, sociologist Matthew Desmond, author of “Poverty, by America,” breaks down how the United States became a country with more poverty than other rich democracies, what's wrong with our welfare system and what really works to reduce poverty. Plus, the role regular Americans play in all of it. In the News Fix: Following the tragic death of Jordan Neely in New York City, we reflect on the responsibility shared by society at large for allowing unjust systems to remain in place. And, a key player in the global wood pulp industry is considering switching to Chinese currency in its business transactions. We'll get into what that could mean for the future of the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency. Later, we'll hear about an early depiction of a bathroom in the “Star Wars” universe. Plus, one couple shares their perspective on Kai's “rants.” And, this week's answer to the Make Me Smart question comes from the mom of one of our producers. Here’s everything we talked about today: “Why Poverty Persists in America” from The New York Times “Child poverty fell by nearly half in 2021, Census Bureau says” from Marketplace “Private opulence, public squalor: How the U.S. helps the rich and hurts the poor” from NPR “How many people are really facing poverty in the U.S.?” from Marketplace “National Poverty in America Awareness Month: January 2023” from the U.S. Census Bureau “The Uncertain Hour” from Marketplace “Opinion | Society’s failures on mental health put Jordan Neely on that F train” from The Washington Post “World's Biggest Pulp Producer Suzano Considers Trading With China in Yuan” from Bloomberg Mad magazine Issue No. 197, March 1978 from the Internet Archive Do you have an answer to the Make Me Smart question?
