Julianna Carella and her daughter Dominique stopped by the podcast to give Briana and Josh a lesson in THC vs. CBD while also sharing an incredible journey that started with a garbage bag filled with weed. The mother-daughter duo are the driving forces behind two highly successful therapeutic hemp companies, Auntie Dolores for humans and Treatibles for pets. With no formal business education and a profile best described as devoted single mom, professionally trained dancer employed as a bookkeeper and a mission-driven activist, Julianna established the Auntie Dolores brand in 2008, with Treatibles debuting not too long after in 2013. Little did Julianna know the legacy she would create from these passion projects - a family business that would allow her daughter to learn and grow alongside her.
Julianna Carella is an entrepreneur, innovator, visionary, and expert. She is the CEO and Founder of Treatibles, a hemp wellness nutraceutical company for pets and humans, and also an offshoot of a company she first created called Auntie Dolores. Listen in to this episode as Julianna, a staunch advocate of the cannabis movement displays her deep commitment to providing the highest quality products. She shares with us the wisdom of running a business that has been at odds with legal authorities for long and has given her seemingly insurmountable odds but has in the same way given her incredible rewards, nonetheless.
Kate and Don interview Julianna Carella, CEO and Founder of Treatibles and Auntie Dolores. We discuss the use of hemp-derived phytocannabinoid nutraceuticals and their ability to offer dogs relief from anxiety, arthritis, pain, inflammation, seizures, nausea, motion sickness and even their ability to help those with cancer. We discuss the science behind these products, their safety, and what one should look for when selecting a Phytocannabinoid Nutraceutical for their pet.
With the Capitol Corridor train in the background and a very personal point up front, Julianna Carella returns to discuss Auntie Dolores and Treatibles. In the wake of California’s new regulations, she’ll be shuttering Auntie Dolores edibles to focus on Treatibles exclusively. Julianna certainly understands and appreciates the two steps forward, one step back reality of legal cannabis, but at this moment in time she has evaluated other realities- slim margins on high-end edibles and the raid preparedness nature of California dispensaries. With those points, adding potency and serving size requirements in the new regulations make continuing with edibles untenable for her. That said, hempCBDbased Treatibles certainly lives on.
Julianna Carella is the founder and CEO of two companies that create cannabinoid infusions. Her first company, Auntie Dolores, is an infused gourmet edibles producer that offers medical cannabis concoctions; her second company, Treatibles, has quickly become a national sensation for providing nutritious and wellness-focused CBD treats that have been enjoyed by animals of all shapes and sizes throughout the U.S. In this interview, our host TG Branfalt talks with Julianna about the founding of her two companies, the importance of providing a consistent dosage in any product with infused cannabinoids, lessons she picked up when making the swap from providing products meant for human consumption to products meant for animals, and much more! We first go back to Hempfest 2015 where we talked with Tommy about his outlook on the cannabis landscape and how he’s happy to see the beginnings of greater society focusing on the benefits of cannabis and hemp. Tommy goes on to talk about his experience with the George W. Bush administration and even brings us back to a scene from the iconic “Up in Smoke." Tommy then joins us by phone to discuss the history leading up to the movie as well as what he knew he needed to do to leave a mark. Tommy also touches on why we owe a thank you and/or apology to Mexico and Mexicans and his exceptionally non-white experience with Cheech. And speaking of Cheech, Tommy shares specifically what makes the duo work so well through the “Dave’s Not Here” bit. Enjoy the ride with Tommy Chong. Julianna Carella has cooking in her blood - she learned from her parents in the kitchen and has spent her whole life cooking creative and delicious food (much of it with cannabis) for her friends and family. However, this San Francisco native would take two very different career paths before making food her profession. First, she followed her passion as a dancer in New York City, truly living the “starving artist” lifestyle, but when she had her daughter, took up a career in accounting back in San Francisco. Through this experience, she learned the ins-and-outs of what makes businesses succeed or fail, and when a visit to a dispensary opened her eyes to the huge market gap that existed for high-quality cannabis edibles, she used this knowledge to start Auntie Dolores. Auntie Dolores is now the category leader in wellness-minded edibles. Julianna weighs in on setbacks she experienced in building her company, her concerns over how California is going to properly regulate cannabis, and how she is extending her business into other states. Enjoy!

Auntie Dolores (that's not really her name) met me at the Comedy Store patio to talk about edibles. She makes some of the best brownies, pretzels, lolipops, nuts, and popcorn you can find in California. We talked about how she makes things, her worries with the authorities, and when she got started. Plus we also reminisced about our history with pot cookies.

Auntie Dolores with Julianna and Dominique Carella today on Grassroots Marketing only on Cannabis Radio. Auntie Dolores is one of the first five medical cannabis brands in California and began creating a variety of edible cannabis products. In 2008 you started Auntie Dolores in San Francisco, California, and quickly became the go-to for patients seeking outstanding infused gourmet edibles that promoted the freedom for each to determine their own personal dose. Recognizing the special needs of so many medical cannabis patients, Auntie Dolores set itself apart by offering gluten-free, sugar-free, and vegan options. Talk to me about AD. Julianna, you and Dominique have redesigned Auntie Dolores' expanding the beneficial CBD product line sourced from organic full-spectrum hemp oil, and created a reimagined, inviting, and informative website to inform and educate their customers.
