This week on Dem Vinyl Boyz, we spark off our 8 Weeks of Soundtrack Summer with a cult classic that’s hazy, hilarious, and downright iconic — the 1978 soundtrack to Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke. More than just a stoner comedy, Up in Smoke became a cultural touchstone, ushering in the era of counterculture comedy and solidifying Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong as legends of the genre. The soundtrack captures the film’s irreverent spirit with tracks like “Up in Smoke,” “Earache My Eye,” and plenty of comedic interludes that blend music, satire, and absurdity. In this episode, we’ll roll through how the film and its soundtrack reflected the late-70s vibe, contributed to the duo’s massive success, and left a smoky trail in music and comedy history. Whether you’re reliving your youth or discovering Cheech & Chong’s antics for the first time, this album is a must-spin for fans of comedy, rock, and soundtrack collectors alike. So grab your headphones—and maybe some munchies—and join Dem Vinyl Boyz as we launch Soundtrack Summer with Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke. It’s going to be a trip!

In this episode of the Big Bad Broadcast, we are joined by our special guest, John Joseph, a seasoned comedian known for his performances on cruise ships. We begin by introducing our guests, discussing the quirks of barbecuing, particularly the unsettling fact that flies vomit on our food. This leads to a humorous exchange about the challenges of outdoor dining and the various gadgets people use to keep flies away. Then, the reading from the Daily Stoic sparks a discussion about expectations and self-perception. John Joseph joins in, sharing his experiences on the road and the unique challenges of performing on cruise ships, including the often frustrating travel arrangements and the sometimes chaotic nature of life at sea. We reminisce about our early days in comedy, sharing stories of our experiences at iconic venues like the Comedy Cellar, as well as our adventures with the legendary Beach Boys, travel, connecting with audiences, and the sometimes absurd nature of the entertainment business. Hey! We had some fun, but we got to run.  The Big Bad Broadcast.

In this episode of the Big Bad Broadcast, John and Mike dive into a variety of topics ranging from politics to personal anecdotes. We kick off the show with a light-hearted jab at each other, particularly focusing on John’s sometimes rude demeanor. We express our gratitude to our friends in the entertainment industry, including Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling and Tommy Chong, and share some humorous insights about the current political landscape, particularly regarding Trump and his views on education. The conversation shifts to our own educational experiences, with Mike recounting his journey through community college and John sharing stories about his children’s college experiences, including the surprising rise of the University of Northern Florida. As we reminisce about our youth, we reflect on the pressures of high school sports and the rigorous schedules that young athletes face. Mike shares a funny story about his son’s football experience, while John reflects on his own college days, filled with mischief and a lack of focus. The episode takes a personal turn as I share my recent vacation to the Dominican Republic, where I encountered both the beauty of the resort and the chaos of a family-friendly atmosphere. We laugh about the absurdity of seeing 300-pound women in thongs and the challenges of enjoying a vacation amidst rowdy crowds. We also discuss the importance of family connections, particularly through sports, and how our experiences with our fathers have shaped our relationships with our own children. The episode wraps up with a discussion about the ups and downs of dental visits and the quirks of life, all while maintaining our signature humor and camaraderie. Join us for a fun and engaging episode filled with laughter, personal stories, and a bit of nostalgia! It's The Big Bad Broadcast - Had Some Fun, Gotta Run...

For over 40 years the world has laughed along with the lovable stoner duo of Cheech & Chong as they navigated the world with smiles on their faces and joints in their pockets. Whether you know him as Yax the nudist colony owning Yak from Zootopia, gracefully doing the tango on Dancing With The Stars, or as Man from 1978 hit Up In Smoke, everybody loves Tommy Chong. At 84, he reflects on the ride that took him from the farms of Calgary to the bright lights of Hollywood, and all the places in between. The Grateful Dead and Tommy Chong would both attest to what a long, strange trip it's been. Actor, comedian, and musician Cheech Marin stormed into the public imagination back in the 70's as half of the stoner comedy duo Cheech & Chong, but his career has long since expanded beyond weed-fueled road trip movies. Along the way, he's had ups and downs with creative partner Tommy Chong, gone through two divorces, and opened an art museum celebrating Chicano art. Alicia has the whole smoke-filled ride.
