In this episode of the Big Bad Broadcast, we dive into a mix of humor, nostalgia, and introspection. We kick things off with a light-hearted story about a college professor and his playful antics with his wife, setting the tone for a fun discussion. We talk about our celebrity guests who introduce the show, including Tommy Chong, Lance Burton, and Michael Carbonaro, and we reflect on the nature of humor and how our listeners appreciate the playful jabs from these stars. The conversation shifts to personal reflections, where we share feelings of self-doubt and compulsions, particularly regarding body odor and cologne, leading to a humorous exchange about our obsessions. We also touch on the quirks of online shopping, recounting experiences with package deliveries and the frustrations of hidden items. The episode takes a nostalgic turn as I reminisce about my early career in comedy, sharing stories about my first TV appearance and the journey that led me to work with notable figures in the industry. Throughout the episode, we explore themes of reflection and life's satisfactions, discussing the highs of our careers and the joys of family.  We wrap up with a humorous take on sports, comparing the intensity of basketball to the more relaxed nature of our youth sports experiences. The episode is filled with laughter, insightful moments, and a reminder that while we cherish our past, the future holds even more potential for joy and fulfillment.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Stacey back on the show to discuss the 1986 "comedy" Soul Man.  Remember the 80's when black face was so fun?  Yeah, neither did we.  This Tom Howell supposed comedy fails to bring the laughs and fails on many other levels as well.   Darth Vader is there to provide the moral center (Darth Vader?  The moral center??).  Ron Reagan is there to embarrass this dad's presidency.  Frank Drebin and Elaine Benes are absolutely wasted in their non-roles.  Tommy Chong's daughter rounds out the cast.  No one could be proud of being in this turd.  Enjoy the podcast!Jason, Andy and Dana will discuss a 1986 movie weekly, breaking down all the nonsense there within. WhatI discovered almost immediately was Bryant's depth, experience, dedication, vision, and movie persona. A quintessential film personality wrapped up inchildhood dreams and directions. From a young age in Ohio, he studied balletand eventually studied acting in NYC. An original cast member of Footloose onBroadway and in a 2001 revival of Hair. To me, his journey is classic. Thestuff they make movies about. There are elements of special depth and humanityto his journey. He's exploring the human experience of an aging woman who hasbeen grifting in his first direction. Heavy stuff. ‘Nowhere Good' is riveting, with wondrous acting. Yes, Bryant's direction is brilliant. I saw the film. Allof a sudden, we're talking about Steve Buscemi, Harrison Ford, and Paul Newman. We both love ‘The Sting.'  And Bryantplayed McMurphy in an Ohio production of ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.'Versatile Beyond. I didn't want the interview to end. Great conversation. Iremembered Sally Field is one of Bryant's favorite actresses. I reminded him,she said, of the box of chocolates in Forest Gump. To be continued.” Calvin

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Season 5 of Fritanga looks in three directions: past, present, and future. We begin with someone whose life spans all three. The legendary comedian, actor, author, and art collector Cheech Marin!  For over five decades, Cheech has helped expand who gets to be visible and heard in American culture. Born in South Central Los Angeles, Cheech left the United States during the Vietnam War era and met Tommy Chong in Vancouver. What they built together moved from underground comedy stages to national influence, blending satire, music, and lived experience in a way that reshaped American entertainment. In this conversation with our host, Antonio Tijerino, Cheech reflects on identity, reinvention, and belonging. They talk about growing up Mexican American in LA, about music as the rhythm behind comedy, about leaving America and returning to reshape it. From film to television to Disney animation to sold-out reunion tours decades later, Cheech shares what it takes to pivot without losing who you are. The conversation culminates in his work as a collector and advocate for Chicano art. What began in the 1980s as a personal commitment became national exhibitions and ultimately The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art and Culture, the first museum dedicated to Chicano art. For Cheech, institutions matter because they affirm presence. This episode is about who we have always been in relation to this country, and what it means to make that presence permanent.   Follow The Cheech Center:Instagram -  @theCheechCenterTikTok - @theCheechCenterFacebook - @theCheechCenter Support The Cheech in their effort to uplift diverse artists:https://bit.ly/thecheechlegacy   WATCH THIS EPISODE TODAY: https://hispanicheritage.org/fritanga/ FOLLOW: @FritangaPodcastCONNECT: Fritanga@HispanicHeritage.org   TEAM: Host: Antonio Tijerino Executive Producer: Antonio Caro Senior Producer: Connor Coleman Producer: Ambrose Davis

Lovecraft story, discussing how Director Richard Stanley brought the author's unfilmable concepts—like an unspeakable hue and the creeping terror of the unknown—to life. The crew will dissect the film's psychedelic visuals, the descent of the Gardner family into cosmic madness, and the truly unsettling performance by Nicolas Cage. They'll explore what makes this specific brand of horror—where humanity's insignificance is the real monster—so profoundly terrifying and ask: did this film finally capture the true essence of Lovecraftian dread? Join The Filmlosophers for a mesmerizing and unsettling start to their spooky season deep dive into the terror that lurks just beyond the stars!

Forty-years ago, Oscar-winning master Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Killers of the Flower Moon) directed his second dark comedy in a row (after The King of Comedy) with this quirky New York story which takes place almost entirely during one crazy night.  The whole story centers on Paul played by Griffing Dunne (An American Werewolf in London, My Girl, Dallas Buyers Club) who's just a lowly word processor by day but late one night, he decides to meet up with a mysterious, beautiful woman named Marcy (Rosanna Arquette) in the Soho district.  When he arrives at her apartment, she's at first not there so he ecounters her very strange, forward roommate (Linda Fiorentino)....eventually some one dies....and things just get stranger from there as Paul finds himself trapped in this ONE part of Manhattan unable to find his way home.  The stacked cast for this cult classic also includes Teri Garr, Catherine O'Hara, Will Patton, John Heard, Cheech Marin, and Tommy Chong. Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

It's a full-on cosmic horror double feature this week as we dive into Color Out of Space (2019) and The Endless (2017) — two movies where the universe is broken, time is meaningless, and Nicolas Cage might be your dad.We kick things off with Richard Stanley's goo-soaked nightmare Color Out of Space, where Nicolas Cage yells about alpacas, chugs space milk, and absolutely loses his marbles in a way only Nicolas Cage can. There's a meteor in the yard, purple lightning in the well, and a disturbing lack of child supervision. Bonus points for Joely Richardson slowly fusing with her son in the kitchen blender from hell. Oh, and Tommy Chong lives in the woods recording alien vibes on cassette like a stoner Fox Mulder. Then we head into The Endless (dir. Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead) — a movie where time loops are everywhere, everyone's in a cult (sorta), and reality is held together by what may or may not be a cosmic sadist in the sky. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead star as brothers returning to their old cult campsite, only to discover that time is a circle, no one leaves the tent, and the beer is still free (so... not all bad?).Derick tries to unpack the cult's Netflix-worthy pitch. James compares The Entity to a hungover god watching YouTube fails. Josh wonders if the Cabin in the Woods dome tech is involved. Justin swears The Endless is a metaphor for aging millennials stuck in their hometown group chat.Mind-Melting Topics Include:Meteor goo and why alpacas are the first to go Why The Endless is It Follows for philosophy majors The rules of time loops and how badly we'd mess them upIs the color in Color Out of Space evil… or just lonely?“Stay out of the basement” energy from both moviesCosmic horror vs. existential dread: Who wore it better?    The Entity in The Endless: unknowable god or artsy Dungeon Master?WTF Highlights:Cage's fruit rant, rated 10/10 on the Cage Scale™Is The Endless secretly a flex about low-budget filmmaking that slaps?Would you join a UFO cult for free beer and campfires? (Asking for a friend)Why everything is terrifying when time is a flat circle and the goats are screamingSubscribe for more horror deep-dives, movie chaos, and weekly reminders that cosmic horror is just your anxiety with a fog machine.CREEP-O-RAMA is:Store:CREEP-O-RAMAYouTube:@creep-o-ramaJosh:@joshblevesqueArtwork: @bargainbinblasphemyTheme: @imfigureAudio:@stranjlove

This week on Dem Vinyl Boyz, we spark off our 8 Weeks of Soundtrack Summer with a cult classic that’s hazy, hilarious, and downright iconic — the 1978 soundtrack to Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke. More than just a stoner comedy, Up in Smoke became a cultural touchstone, ushering in the era of counterculture comedy and solidifying Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong as legends of the genre. The soundtrack captures the film’s irreverent spirit with tracks like “Up in Smoke,” “Earache My Eye,” and plenty of comedic interludes that blend music, satire, and absurdity. In this episode, we’ll roll through how the film and its soundtrack reflected the late-70s vibe, contributed to the duo’s massive success, and left a smoky trail in music and comedy history. Whether you’re reliving your youth or discovering Cheech & Chong’s antics for the first time, this album is a must-spin for fans of comedy, rock, and soundtrack collectors alike. So grab your headphones—and maybe some munchies—and join Dem Vinyl Boyz as we launch Soundtrack Summer with Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke. It’s going to be a trip!

At 84, he reflects on the ride that took him from the farms of Calgary to the bright lights of Hollywood, and all the places in between. This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome first-timer Shamus to the podcast as we discuss the 1985 action flick Commando.  In this shoot-em-up, Arnold needs to murder just about everyone he comes in contact with, except Tommy Chong's daughter, all in the hopes of saving Tony Danza's TV daughter.   Even though this is our 3rd trip into the Arnold filmography, this is the one that really started all the things we love about him.  The one-liners, the close ups on this arms, his insane ability to avoid 10,000 bullets all flying at him at once.  Shamus is former military (thank you for your service), and it is fun to get his insight into how believable it is to jump out of plane and survive and how one swims to an island in a speedo and then changes into the most heavily armed person on the planet.  This was a fun one to discuss.  Enjoy the podcast.
