Paddock:Flat track: Springfield mile on Sunday, don’t know if I’ll catch it before the show. In yet another example of what appears to me to be marketing ineptitude, the times for viewing the race were virtually unobtainable, and every time I tuned into live streaming on when one of the warmup, qualifying, or actual races should have been running I got … nothing. Even now, with the race over and the results in, I cannot find a description of the race. So I will give you what I have, just the results. Once again, Mees wins, indian sweeps with smith in second and baker in 3rd, Halbert on the yamaha in 4th and the Harley guy, robinson on the new xg750 in 5. News: Well incase you have been living under a rock for the last few days Harley Davidson has release a few new bikes and shook up their lineup.  Here are three articles that we read before we chat. Need information about new Harleys, and another take and another.  We also talk about a first ride.   Here’s the lowdown. Dyna line has been dropped.   Some model names have been merged with Softail line: lowrider, fatbob, and streetbob have been carried forward to merge with the heritage deluxe, classic, softail slim, breakout, and fatboy.   8 new bikes. Common features are the dual counterbalanced Mil 8, with some (classic, fatboy, breakout) available with the 114. ABS is either standard or available (really!) but they don’t mention if its reflex linked as in the Rushmore and onward touring line.   All have single front rotors (boo). Bike weight reduced up to 35 lbs (yawn), frames are much stiffer and shocks have all been redesigned with showa cartridge like front forks and rear shocks that are easily preload adjustable and have more travel. Greater ground clearance and lean angle has been incorporated. Bikes are claimed to have much improved handling, significantly more torque. The engines are not identical to the 8’s in the touring models, as they now have large oil coolers between the front frame members that look like water radiators. Presumably, engine heat had to be addressed in the softail models, perhaps because they don’t have the farings to redirect the heat as in the baggers? 3 to 5 gallon gas tanks. All bikes have led lighting that varies from modern to futuristic looking, some have lcd readouts instead of the traditional analogue dials with inset lcd windows.   Indian opens an experience center. MotoAmerica replaces KTM Cup with Junior Cup   Recall:BMW Scooters   New Rever Group:We have created a new Rever group/community for our listeners.  Just search for Throttled in the community section and you will be able to follow along as the host and other listeners take and publish rides. Summer is ending we hope you get out there and ride.  Thanks for tuning in this week, as always we start by talking about our riding. Roads for Barber visitors to try and ride from two locations 1st – Oak Mountain State Park State park road heading to Oak Mountain from HWY 119 is one of my favorite, tree canopy short < 5 miles There is a back entrance to the park (or at least us to be) and the road through the park is a nice ride. 39/331 one that I want to ride Different roads heading out to Columbiana 2nd – Barber itself From HWY 280 and I-459 take Sicard Hollow to Rex lake If you are staying north of that area closer to down town Birmingham take Overton on the way to I-459 then hit Liberty Parkway and that will run into Sicard Hollow State HWY 25 – some call it the Alabama dragon ( I wouldn’t go that far) but a fun little road, watch your speed there are a few blind hairpins. Ride through the Talladega National forest, some dirt roads some paved but you can have a ton of fun on either or both Throttled Ride Along: If you are interested in having a Throttled Ride where you can come and ride with Kevin at Barber write in and let us know. How many miles would you want to do or how long(hours) would you like to ride. What day of the event Fri, Sat or Sunday works best? What time of day, Morning or after lunch? What starting point works best? Barber, 280 and 459, Pelham or Hoover *note that some of the roads that I mentioned about will most likely be involved in the ride at some point. We can go ahead and say that this will be a moderate pace that may at times be slightly faster than posted speeds but shouldn’t be worth an officers time. News:Looks like another brand to be built in India and Triumph announces plans. Sena released the 10uPad. We cover the video of Canadian riders holding up traffic. We also cover a rider who survives a tragic accident and then…blames the bike? Recalls:BMW issues two recalls this week  Here is first and the second.
