A nostalgic look back at the extinct Walt Disney World attractions I wish I could've experienced in person. From soaring through the park on the original Skyway, to exploring the optimistic future of Horizons, to stepping inside the imaginative dreamscape of the original Journey Into Imagination, this episode dives into the classic rides that helped define Disney magic for an entire generation of fans.
Black Panther Park has officially opened in Skyway, Seattle, marking a significant community achievement dedicated to preserving the legacy of Seattle's Black Panther Party. The new space, spearheaded by Nurturing Roots and founder Nyema Clark, aims to commemorate the Party's historical contributions to community empowerment, food justice, and self-determination. It features public art, community resources, and designated areas for gathering, reflection, and healing, reflecting a long-standing community effort to honor this impactful heritage. Interview by Chris B. Bennett.
This week, Sent from Disneyland continues its mailbox tour with two more lost Disneyland mailboxes—and one modern postcard surprise. First, a 1976 Matterhorn postcard takes us to a forgotten Tomorrowland mailbox once located beneath the Skyway, Monorail, and PeopleMover. Then, a 1965 Frontierland postcard leads us to the mailbox hidden beside the Westward Ho Trading Company and its iconic wooden Indian photo spot. Finally, an incoming 2026 postcard featuring vintage stamps and a Sinatra quote ties today's mail magic back to Disneyland. Along the way: park history, extinct attractions, vintage stamps, and the stories written on the backs of postcards. Below are some of the regulars on Art Throw Down, Follow all of them on Instagram anyway for great art and postcards in your Instagram feed: Hipstadufus, luluvision, jlynch9923, greenmosspaper, georgemailsart, state_of_the_funyun, RussRomano2021
This week, a permit to remove an attraction has been filed, a big timeline change is coming to an area of Disneyland, more updates to the Disneyland app, some rare discounted merchandise at the resort, we finish our discussion with Kevin Rafferty, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: A popular attraction in Disney California Adventure is moving towards extinction. Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue! has had a permit filed with the city of Anaheim for demolition. In addition to the attraction, the Hollywood Lounge beverage stand is also included in the demolition permit. The timeline to start demolition is not until at least late 2027. - https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/04/19/confirmed-this-disney-ride-will-permanently-close-in-2027/ We are just about a week away from the timeline expanding at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. On April 29th, Batuu will welcome original trilogy characters like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solor, and Leia Organa. This has been a long time request from guests who want to interact with characters from across the trilogy in the Star Wars themed land. There is some criticism that the characters are not close enough to their appearance in the films, but we will have to wait and see. In addition, the area will have the classic music of John Williams playing from the movie score. - https://www.micechat.com/434704-disneyland-update-star-wars-land-glow-up-app-shake-up-toy-story-5-build-up/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/photos-dok-ondar-changes-april-2026/ In the latest update to the Disneyland app, there have been some good quality of life improvements. Under My Visit, the Tip Board has been renamed to Wait Times & Showtimes, and My Day has been renamed My Plans. These updated names better reflect what can be found in each section. MyDisney Wallet has been added to the account settings where you can add your credit or debit card for payments. There still is no option to add a gift card. - https://www.micechat.com/434704-disneyland-update-star-wars-land-glow-up-app-shake-up-toy-story-5-build-up/ With the Disneyland 70th celebration coming to a close this summer, there are some good discounts to be had. Many 70th anniversary items are marked down up to 50%, including some Loungefly bags. In addition, there are some new Duffy and Friends items that have arrived at the resort from Aulani. Pins, a button up shirt, and more are available. - https://www.micechat.com/434704-disneyland-update-star-wars-land-glow-up-app-shake-up-toy-story-5-build-up/ A classic attraction is retuning to the Disneyland Resort. The Skyway is coming back! Ok, only as a straw topper, but still! Starting April 22, guests can add this to their collections. It features the classic rectangular, four person gondola from 1965. - https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-skyway-straw-clip/ SnackChat: New Menu Items - https://www.instagram.com/p/DXV432qlrJ3/?igsh=MWw5aDRwNHFybzZx Discussion Topic: Imagineer Kevin Rafferty Magic Journey: My Fantastical Walt Disney Imagineering Career - https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Journey-Fantastical-Disney-Imagineering/dp/1368020488 Marty Note pdf.pdf Marty's Marty Note pdf.pdf Marty's Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. April Palmer joins this episode of Convergence.fm to break down a practical, repeatable approach to product innovation that starts with customer conversations and ends with shipped improvements. We talk about why most innovation is actually "amelioration," how to run a closed loop ladder from stories to product decisions, and how to earn buy-in from sales and frontline teams so innovation becomes a team sport. April is in charge of client relationships at Duckbill and teaches product innovation at VCU. She is a former top sales performer for Fortune 100 companies across various industries, where she consistently drove double-digit growth in six- and seven-figure portfolios. Today, she helps aspiring entrepreneurs turn their ideas into successful businesses by developing strategies that integrate finance, marketing, sales, and customer experience. April shares how a sales driven internal request at Duckbill became Skyway, a cloud contract and spend visibility product, and why the best use of AI is helping humans do human work better. In this episode: Defining product innovation as improvement of existing workflows, not just net new invention The closed loop ladder: capture, translate, synthesize, decide, ship, close the loop The "wet monkeys" lesson, how tradition blocks obvious change How to use ride alongs and story capture to surface patterns fast How to earn trust from sales and frontline techs without slowing them down Why call centers are opportunity centers, not just cost centers AI in support: where it helps, where it creates risk Sales led innovation stories from ADP and Duckbill, from insights to new offerings Building a challenge network and creating room for whimsy in problem solving Delightful product experience, why Wayfair's self explanatory assembly labeling mattered Mentioned in this episode: Follow April Palmer on LinkedIn Duckbill and Skyway Share More Stories and SEEQ They Ask, You Answer by Marcus Sheridan Rocket Fuel by Gino Wickman and Mark C. Send us a textThe gangway drops, the music hits, and we kick off a cruise-driven, faith-forward journey from Port Canaveral with one goal: make your time at sea effortless, joyful, and unforgettable. We introduce our duo—Captain Jesse and the Cruise Coach—and dive right into how to choose the best Florida homeport, from Miami's buzz to Tampa Bay's Skyway views, and why that first decision shapes your itinerary, budget, and onboard rhythm. We unpack the big Caribbean question—East, West, or South—and explain what each route delivers, from Cozumel tacos and Cayman reefs to longer Southern escapes like Aruba. Then we zoom in on the ships themselves: Utopia, Icon, and Star of the Seas redefine “floating city” with aqua theaters, two-tier promenades, solariums, and spa sanctuaries that rival land resorts. You'll hear smart, actionable tips: Boardwalk and Central Park balcony hacks on Oasis-class ships, the best ways to catch the AquaTheater (including from your own balcony), and complimentary breakfast windows that most guests miss.Competition is reshaping the industry for the better. We talk MSC's rise, why dry docks matter, and how more than fifty new ships on order will push design, dining, and entertainment forward. Private islands are leveling up too—think Perfect Day at CocoCay and Carnival's Celebration Key—making short sailings feel like full-on resort getaways. If you're a first-timer, we demystify gratuities, inclusions, and what “turn off your brain” truly means once you step aboard. Most of all, we're building community. Join our hosted group cruises to get concierge-style planning: curated excursions, dining guidance, show reservations, and flexible tracks for families, foodies, and adventurers. Link two ports in one vacation with Brightline rail, or bookend your sailing with Cocoa Beach sunsets and Orlando theme parks. We keep it service-first and faith-centered, closing with a prayer for safe voyages and lighter hearts.Subscribe, share with your cruise-curious friends, and tell us where you want to sail next. Your next great story might be waiting just beyond the pier—come aboard and let's chart it together.Support the showFollow us on Instagram @spacecoastpodcastSponsor this show Want to watch our shows? https://youtube.com/@spacecoastpodcast

We’re talking about the future of a big job today: King County Executive.Whichever candidate is elected to this position will oversee the sheriff’s department, manage public health, transportation, public housing, and jails… according to the King County website, they’ll lead one of the largest regional governments in the United States. The last time we had an open race for King County Executive, Barack Obama was about to become President. And everyone was talking about some new Washington-based movie called “Twilight.” Today, two county leaders are vying for the job. Guests: Claudia Balducci is a member of the King County Council. She represents District 6, which includes Bellevue, Mercer Island, and Redmond. She is an attorney who previously served as Mayor of Bellevue, she was a Bellevue city council member, and Director of the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention for King County. Girmay Zahilay is chair of the King County Council, representing District 2, which includes Skyway, Allentown, and the University District. He’s also an attorney and founded the non-profit Rising Leaders, which offers mentorship and leadership training for middle school students. Destination D23 2025 took place at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort at Walt Disney World. This year's theme marked "A Journey Around the Worlds of Disney" and featured several panels, including a Walt Disney Studios Showcase, a Disney Villains presentation, a chat with Roy P. The lads welcome special guest Tim Kelly this episode for a whirlwind of Disneyland in the '70s, from speeding Casey Jr. trains and Skyway shenanigans to fireworks misfires and Tinker Bell crash landings. Tim also dives into his days as a pitcher, scout, and coach with the Dodgers and Angels — including unforgettable moments at Dodgers Fantasy Camp with Joe Walsh of the Eagles, stories of big-band nights at the park, and Michael Eisner's quirky Angels era. It's trains, tunes, and trouble all rolled into one.

Disney Adults have an affinity for Disney Parks, Disney Animation, Disney Consumer Products, and other Disney Experiences. They make frequent visits to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, or any other Disney Destination. They prioritize Disney movies and watch Disney shows. They decorate their home with Disney designs, and they yearn for more Disney experiences. In this episode, I chat with AJ Wolfe of Disney Food Blog about this very topic, exploring what it means to be a Disney Adult and discussing AJ's new book: Disney Adults: Exploring (And Falling In Love With) A Magical Subculture, available on August 5. Walt Disney Imagineering invited me on a very special and exclusive tour of their headquarters at 1401 Flower Street in Glendale, California. This tour gave me the chance to chat with Imagineers, visit multiple Imagineering departments (model shop, sculpting, sound, animation, and R&D), attend demonstrations and presentations, and experiment with some innovative Imagineering technology. I got to power on a realistic Star Wars lightsaber, play with the lovable BDX droids from Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (Disneyland and Walt Disney World), and touch and feel silicone samples from Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure (Shanghai Disneyland), just to name a few exciting milestones. In addition, I had the opportunity to interview Imagineer Dave Crawford inside Walt Disney Imagineering. All of this will be shared in today's episode. In this episode, I share more details about my behind-the-scenes tour of Walt Disney Imagineering, including what I saw and what I learned from the experience. Walt Disney—A Magical Life opened at Disneyland on July 17, 2025 (the 70th anniversary of Disneyland) in the Main Street Opera House (to be rotated with Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln). With Walt Disney One Man's Dream as the opening sequence, this new attraction features the first-ever Audio-Animatronic figure to depict Walt Disney. On July 15, I had the honor of attending a special media preview of this brand new show with the opportunity to view the show twice plus hear from the Imagineers (Tom Fitzgerald and Jeff Shaver-Moskowitz) and Walt Disney Family Museum representatives (Kristen Komoroske) who worked on this new experience. In this episode, I'm joined by Jack Kendall from DSNY Newscast to discuss this new attraction, including plenty of honest and detailed analysis about the new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic and some discussion about the lobby experience (led by Imagineer Kim Irvine) and film sequence.
