Regálate unos minutos y practica conmigo #ElBailedelPollo.Comencemos…Este ejercicio se parece mucho al baile del pollo, ponte de pie con los pies separados al ancho de las caderas, ahora, inspira y suelta lentamente el aire por la nariz, mientras toma consciencia de la Tierra que te sostiene y te acoge sin restricciones. Empuña ambas manos y llévalas frente a tu pecho flexionando los brazos (como si fueran alas).Ahora, mientras respiramos suavemente por la nariz, vamos a subir y bajar los brazos, golpeando nuestras costillas, justo como si estuviéramos haciendo el baile del pollo, mientras sonreímos recordando un momento divertido o simplemente sintiendo cómo éste baile del pollo nos permite mover el cuerpo y salir del estado de tensión, de ansiedad o preocupación que podemos estar sintiendo en este momento.Continúa respirando por tu nariz mientras subes y bajas los brazos golpeando tus costillas… como si estuvieras haciendo el baile del pollo...¡Terminamos! ¿cómo te sientes? Después de un par de minutos, muy posiblemente sientas cómo tu pecho se ha relajado con el movimiento y tu ansiedad también ha disminuido, inclusive puede que te sientas alegre.Esta práctica está inspirada en los ejercicios del Maestro Ping, quien lleva más de 25 años enseñando QiGong y TaiChi. Así que esta semana te invito a practicar un ejercicio muy sencillo inspirado en el Maestro Thai que he llamado “Una Pausa de Alegría”. Puede servirnos como un pequeño ritual de inicio o de cierre de actividad; nos ayuda a enfocar nuestra atención, a conectar con nosotros mismos y con nuestra sabiduría interior. También puedes hacerlo cuando necesites una pausa restaurativa para recargarte de energía durante tu rutina diaria.Pero, lo importante no es que me creas, sino que verifiques qué beneficios trae para ti esta práctica. What do oscilloscopes, Swiss cheese, and Barack Obama have to do with Disney's defunct Skyway ride? As we walk through the concepts, creation, and evolution of this beloved attraction, we learn about the art of the Fantasyland sky station, what the inner section of the Matterhorn was called, some unique railing designs, and the rumors (and facts) about why this ride closed. Over its 35-year history, the park has undergone a large evolution, so extensive that its five opening day attractions (including the Great Movie Ride and Backlot Studio Tour) are all no longer a part of the park. What’s Trending: A Federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit that challenged the ability for non-citizens in Washington DC to vote. Public schools in Washington will be required to teach LGBTZ history by 2025. Gov. Jay Inslee signed the bill into law that would require this history be taught while the Holocaust is optional.  // Big Local: The city of Burien has decided to raise their minimum wage, bigger companies are going to be required to pay their employees $3 more than the minimum, smaller companies will have a $2 over the minimum wage requirement. A smash and grab in Skyway that was targeted at at pot shop ended up with the criminals broke into the wrong building and broke into a business that was not in the cannabis industry. There is a burglary spree going on in Maple Valley and the businesses are wising up that they should improve their security measures. // You Pick The News: A handgun was found in the lunchbox of a 2-year-oldwhile at daycare. This happened in Florida and the mother of the child said they she stores her handgun in her glove box in her car but switched her placement of it to her child’s lunchbox because she does not have a purse. 

The government buys lots of services…but not all service contracts work the same way. There are personal services, non-personal services, Service Contract services, advisory services, and so on. We have a whole podcast playlist just for service contracts.One common type of services is Professional Services. These services are defined as having a “recognized status based upon acquiring professional knowledge through prolonged study.” In other words, these are skilled services that require expertise, education, and/or time to master.  The level of expertise, education and time can impact how much a “professional” is paid for said services. How then does the government know what a reasonable rate is for these services?Enter: The Evaluation of Compensation for Professional Employees (52.222-46).This clause is critical for evaluating professional services. As the government continues to rely on professional expertise of contractors, both government and industry need to understand the requirement for, and application of, this clause. In this episode, Kevin is joined by Joe Luetke from Skyway to explain the why, how and what of the Professional Compensation clause.

The United States government buys a wide variety of things in a variety of ways. In this episode, we cover one of those unique ways: through Foreign Military Sales (FMS).Under FMS, the US government procures equipment and services for foreign partner nations. These FMS purchases are often referred to as “security assistance” that is part of Foreign Policy to help nations maintain their defense.FMS covers a wide variety of products and services. While this is not something every contracting officers or every contactor touches, it's a big enough deal that it warrants its own episode. For some context, in FY 2022, FMS sales were over $51 Billion (with a B)…including contracts with both large and small businesses.Since FMS is still pretty niche, I invited Steve Lucianetti to join me on this episode. We talked in episode 440 about how the government awards contracts for lots of services – unless those services are “inherently governmental activities”. We outlined the definition of that in episode 195. What makes these roles “inherently governmental” is that they are filled by people making decisions on behalf of the government. For example, these folks are deciding if the government will buy something, what they will buy, and how they will buy it, among others. You may recognize some of these activities from the groups we outline in our “3 Deciders” concept we covered in episode 118. In this episode, we explain what exactly makes the decisions inherently governmental. However, the hiring of all those people to provide those services under government contracts is not happening in a vacuum – it's happening as part of the overall economy.
