The Interns Podcast: A Preview of Washington's Linebacker Position Groups

The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - roll through the rest of their position group previews by combining two more rooms into one podcast. After breaking down Washington's defensive line group, the interns got after it with the EDGE and Inside Linebacker rooms. To start, they analyze the UW EDGE players, starting with their stars - Bralen Trice and Zion Tupuola-Fetui - as well as Sekai Asoau-Afoa, Maurice Heims, Zach Durfee, Lance Holtzclaw, Anthony James, and Jacob Lane, as well as veteran Voi Tunuufi, who made the move from the defensive line room. Who will the Huskies lean on after Brice and ZTF? And how will their skill sets complement each other? And how will the walk-ons, starting with Milton Hopkins, make their presence known? After a quick break the guys then move inside to talk about the players responsible for handling the next level of the defense - the inside linebackers. This group has seen a bit of a personnel shift, as Cam Bright, Kristopher Moll, Demario King, Daniel Heimuli, and a handful of walk-ons are all gone; Ralen Goforth was brought in from USC, as well as true freshmen Deven Bryant, Jordan Whitney, and a couple of new walk-ons to help fill in the gaps. So is it a matter of addition by subtraction? Will having Edefuan Ulofoshio from the beginning of the year show itself in a way it couldn't last season? And will Alphonzo Tuputala continue to develop on the field considering all the physical changes he's made in the weight room? And will a player like Goforth reach his potential in a new environment after a mixed career with the Trojans? And will a stalwart like Carson Bruener be the perfect foil for Goforth? Will they be the pair behind Ulofoshio and Tuputala the Huskies can count on for quality depth that they couldn't in 2022? Jack and Luke finish out this preview pod by taking a look at the other scholarship players that make up the linebackers room, as well as the quality walk-ons like Drew Fowler, Austin Harnetiaux, and others. DawgmanRadio: A Washington Huskies Recruiting Deep Dive

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - go way above their allotted time to really sink their teeth into Washington's recent recruiting efforts, as well as what their plan is moving forward with next month's official visits. To start, Chris gets Scott's take on Kalen DeBoer's new 'woof' that he debuted on Twitter recently, as well as thoughts on UW's latest commitment for their 2024 recruiting class, Paki Finau. Scott doesn't believe the Huskies will enter the fall with as many commitments as they had a year ago, and there are reasons for that. The guys go into those reasons, as well as some of the recent trends the guys are seeing with recruiting in general, from the impact made by the transfer portal and NIL, to specific thoughts on why the Huskies are recruiting so many quarterbacks for 2025. And will the staff be able to compete at a high level for some of the country's top prospects, or will they have to rely more on trying to mining those nuggets they can develop into top players? And how will the new recruiting landscape test DeBoer's patience and determination in maintaining his core beliefs and culture that has been established at Montlake? After a break to pay some bills, the guys come back to talk specifically about scholarship numbers, how many scholarships should be available for the 2024 recruiting class, and whether or not the UW staff will keep some rides in their pocket for key portal additions or if they'll reward current walk on players like Jack McCallister, Drew Fowler, Grady Gross, etc... They also talk about some recent offers, including one to long snapper Cannon Skidmore (you can see the full list of 2024 offers HERE), and they also go deep into the two visit weekends that are set to start a month from now (you can see the full list of players that are expected to officially visit Washington HERE). Will some names be added to those lists? Will they try and have one big week like they did last year where they ended up with nearly a commit a day for about 10 days in June? Or are they looking to be more targeted in their approach and exercise patience for some of the bigger fish out there that aren't expected to make their commitments until much later in the process? And finally, we get to hear Scott's educated guesses when it comes to the list of players he expects could commit to Washington soon. This is a great story on what it takes to succeed, I think its important to understand that those out in front have had to work hard to get there and Drew articulates that struggle well through this episode. Failure is a big part of success, take the lesson and keep moving forward, those that achieve are those that don't give up. Have to apologise as this episode wasn't edited due to time constraints, but hope you take some learning from it and enjoy.

The NCAA Tournament is only about a month away now, and barring a complete collapse, the Dawgs are probably going to make it in. If the Selection Show was tonight, where would they land? CBS Sports' Matt Norlander discusses the Dawgs' potential seeding, as well as his thoughts on Gonzaga, and who will top the seeding. The Arizona AD made a statement today re-affirming support for basketball coach Sean Miller. Statements like that are the kiss of death. Bellevue linebacker Drew Fowler could have gone to school at a number of schools in the Pac-12, and beyond, but turned down all the offers to walk on at Washington. He explains why he's potentially giving up a scholarship to become a Dawg.
