• A quiet Charlotte family is thrust into Hollywood • “Writing for me was something that I didn't share with anybody” (Total Recorded Time is 18:21) When it comes to the alure of show business, the same bug that bit stars like Ronald Reagan, Hilary Swank and Leonard DiCaprio bit a family living quietly in sedate Charlotte, North Carolina. And while the DeBoer family's star is still rising, it has spun off its first book, “Until Tomorrow, Little People.” Family patriarch Matt DeBoer wrote the book based on a blog he wrote during the family's first beachhead in Hollywood, holed up in a 2-bedroom apartment for three months, to give their kids a chance to break into stardom. Son Chandler is in a Warner Bros. movie called, "8-Bit Christmas" starring Neal Patrick Harris and daughter Olivia played Young Love in the Netflix movie “You.” Matt DeBoer talks about the unusual series of events that launched the children's careers and formed his book in this Bizgnus Podcast. Please click here to watch the interview: https://youtu.be/1_05Eqg18HQ “Writing for me was something that I didn't share with anybody because I was afraid that it would be rejected,” Mr. DeBoer says. “I was afraid it would be rejected.” Then he realized that his hesitation was at odds with the “go for it” approach he was encouraging for his son and daughter. Mr. DeBoer worked with an editor at his publisher for months to refine the text before it was published. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 27th August. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. RIVIAN TO GO PUBLIC WITH IPO - Rivian Automotive, an electric-vehicle start-up backed by Amazon, announced Friday that it has filed a confidential draft registration form for an IPO. The size and price range for the IPO has not been determined, the company said in a release. - The news comes months after Bloomberg reported that the company had selected Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley as underwriters for its IPO and could seek a $70 billion valuation Original Source : https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/27/rivian-electric-vehicle-maker-backed-by-amazon-files-for-ipo.html RIVIAN FILES TO GO PUBLIC AT UP TO A REPORTED $80 BILLION VALUATION - Rivian will be doing a traditional initial public offering, bucking the recent trend of electric vehicles going public by merging with a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC. - The draft will initially remain confidential, though Bloomberg has reported that Rivian is seeking a valuation as high as $80 billion. The IPO date is expected to be sometime before the end of this year. When it happens, Rivian will add to a fundraising war chest that is already over $10 billion. The service subscriptions could pave the way for Tesla to allow owners to repair their own cars. - The first subscription is the Service and Repair Information package, which gives owners access to manuals, tooling catalogs, wiring diagrams, and other pertinent documents. Owners had access to these documents previously, according to Tesla owner-hacker @greentheonly or Green. - The second, newer subscription gives Tesla owners access to the company's diagnostic software. Green noted that Tesla's diagnostic software was not acc to US owners until now, but it was already available to owners in Europe. In December 2020, Tesla gave European owners access to their vehicles' toolbox feature, granting them access to diagnostics and some software. Original Source : https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-diagnostic-software-right-to-repair-service TESLA IS TAKING OVER NORWAY - Tesla's recent events in Norway have been groundbreaking. The electric automaker shipped around 1,300 Model Ys to Norway as it began deliveries to Europe recently. It turns out these Model Ys were shipped directly from Gigafactory Shanghai. In turn, all of these are the Tesla's Made-in-China (MIC) Model Y Long Range variants. - The Tesla Model Y has become the number one electric vehicle (which also means #1 vehicle overall) in Norway. Original Source : https://cleantechnica.com/2021/08/29/tesla-is-taking-over-norway/ TESLA NOTES 395 ENVIRONMENTAL OBJECTIONS TO GIGA BERLIN - In the third public participation in the approval procedure for Tesla's planned vehicle factory in Grünheide, 395 new objectors raised objections to the planned Gigafactory. A new public hearing will therefore be necessary. The Brandenburg State Office for the Environment has decided to schedule another hearing to discuss the objections. The date this time will take place online – because of the high number of objections and the current Corona regulations. 13 September has been mentioned as a possible date. However, the discussion could start earlier – but then it could also take a longer period of time, “possibly even several weeks”. It aims to sell 650,000 vehicles a year by 2025. - Car companies globally are working with more tech companies, battery makers and mining firms to develop future products and secure supply of components amid a shift towards electric vehicles (EV). Since then, the German automaker replaced the X5 with an all-new model called the X5 xDrive45e. - The addition of a bigger battery may be a more significant update, at least in terms of day-to-day driving. The pack now has a gross capacity of 24 kWh, with a useable 17 kWh. That endows the X5 xDrive45e with an EPA-estimated 31 miles (50 km) of range when just using the battery and electric motor, making it extremely competitive with other plug-in hybrids of a similar size and price. The X5 xDrive45e is also now capable of going a little faster in electric-only mode—84 mph (135 km/h) instead of 75 mph (120 km/h). A government document has revealed that an MG ZS EV with a 40kWh battery pack is to be offered soon. - In India, the three mass-market electric vehicles currently on sale include the Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Kona Electric and the MG ZS EV. While the Nexon EV is the most affordable model of the three - it is possible that MG could just replace the current version with the more affordable 40 kWh model. Should this be the case, it would help bring the cost of the ZS EV down and may result in a boost in sales for the model. In 2016, Sophie de Boer won the overall cyclocross world cup series. The following season, she was feeling tired and unhappy, and stopped her season early due to what was diagnosed as overtraining. On this episode, pro cyclocross racer Sophie shares how she bounced back from that period and how she's now happier and more motivated than ever on the bike. She explains to us how she got to this point and talks about overtraining and how this term doesn't really do justice to the condition she was in. She explains the importance of feeling happy, and how she thinks it is important to practice controlling how we feel, as this can have a big impact on what happens to us. Finally, we also talk about how she started in the sport and discuss why the Dutch Women are so good in cyclocross. What happens when we live out what we say we believe? In today's episode, Are We Living What We Say We Believe? Cindy DeBoer shares how she and her husband seemingly had it all--great kids, a beautiful home, luxury cars, family, friends, a great church, lucrative careers--yet there was something missing. Their marriage was good but not great, why? Because there were things in the past they needed to share with each other so they could work through it and move forward. It was then they were able to ask God this loaded question: "How shall we live if we really want to live what we say we believe?" When we ask God a question like that we need to be prepared for His answer. God did answer them in a powerful and unexpected way. Hear how God seemingly turned their lives upside down, when in fact as Cindy puts it, it was right side up. She also shares what God is teaching her about being thankful in hard seasons, including her serious and progressive lung disease. I know what Cindy has to share will encourage, inspire, and challenge you, so listen in while I have a chat with Cindy DeBoer. I hope what Cindy shared inspired and challenged you to walk deeper in God's word and take action where your passion, compassion, and conviction intersect. What encouraged you most about Cindy's story? It reminded me of the story of the rich young ruler, only flipped. The man asked Jesus what he needed to do to inherit eternal life. He had kept all the commandments since his youth, yet when Jesus asked him to sell all his worldly possessions and follow Him, he could not part with his stuff. He could not part with the stuff he couldn't take with him into eternal life. We need to let that sink in a bit. Are we brave enough to ask God these kinds of questions and brave enough to be obedient when He answers? We would hope so but we'll never know until we ask. I pray we all have the boldness and courage to ask God how we should be living if we lived what we say we believe. Cindy's blog and title of her book/memoir were inspired by this quote: “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”—C.S. LEWIS Favorite Quotes from the show "...all we could think about was how to bless others, how to give more away, how to live more simply--how to live simply so others can simply live." - Cindy DeBoer "The world needs more brave Christians." - Cindy DeBoer Spread the Word Could you do me a huge favor, friend?
Today, we're talking about climate litigation against private companies and the implications for China. We have recently seen the burgeoning of climate-related law-suits, including earlier ones such as Kivalina v. ExxonMobil in 2009, and more recent cases in Norway against oil drilling in the Arctic, and the case of New York City v. Chevron. There's also an on-going case against BP in the UK right now filed by ClientEarth UK. In today's podcast, we'll discuss the case in the Netherlands brought by Friends of the Earth against Royal Dutch Shell. On May 26, the court ordered Shell to reduce its CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030 (with 2019 as a base level). The court stated that Shell's climate policies were “not concrete and are full of conditions...that's not enough.” This is a second monumental verdict issued by the district court in the Hague, after the Urgenda Case, brought by the Urgenda Foundation and Dutch citizens against the government of the Netherlands, which was decided in 2018. Today we have two guests from ClientEarth China to talk about this judgement and issues beyond: Dimitri de Boer and Boya Jiang. Dimitri de Boer is the head of ClientEarth China, one of China's most prominent environmental cooperation experts. Before joining ClientEarth, He previously led the EU – China Environmental Governance Programme from 2010 to 2015. Dimitri worked as senior adviser on environment and climate change for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in China for 12 years. He also worked as a consultant for the World Bank, European Union, and the Chinese government. Dimitri volunteers as vice-chairman of the Board of China Carbon Forum, an independent platform which aims to foster trust and cooperation among China's stakeholders for climate action. Boya Jiang is the Nature and Climate Lawyer at ClientEarth, a charity focusing on advancing environmental governance and rule of law. Boya is a legal expert and she holds a Magis Juris degree in law from the University of Oxford. At present, Boya is focusing on how to promote the environmental rule of law to help resolve issues related to biodiversity and climate change. On today's episode of the Cross-Check NHL Show, co-host Mary Clarke is still on vacation, so Locked On Canadiens host Laura Saba joins Andrew Berkshire to break down the biggest stories in hockey. Speaking of big stories, the Montreal Canadiens have gone from the 18th-best regular season record to the Stanley Cup favourites? What? How? Laura and Andrew break down the keys to their shocking Game Five win against the Vegas Golden Knights, including the trifecta of their young guns in Nick Suzuki, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and Cole Caufield all having big games, and the absolute force that Corey Perry has been on and off the ice. After looking at the Montreal side of the equation, the hosts welcome Jesse Granger from The Athletic to explain how Vegas found themselves in this situation, the goaltending carousel that we've seen in the playoffs, why the Golden Knights' forwards have been so silent offensively, and whether Max Pacioretty can be the answer.
