Lindsey Marcelli is the Founder of the Non-Profit Organization called Compete for a Cure with a mission to fund breast cancer survivors' wellness within local communities and provide breast health education for coaches and trainers. They seek to empower the survivor, the gym owner, the event planner, and the business owner so that the survivor can be a part of a community that revolves around physical activity and overall well-being. Through this organization they have run many competitions worldwide (Girls Gone RX) that are hosted by gyms all over the world or lifting competitions (The OLY Open & Winter Solstice) that are run online. All of these competitions push to achieve the mission of finding a cure for Breast Cancer and supporting those affected. SHOW NOTE: In the intro/outro I mistakenly refer to the organization as Compete for a Cause when in fact it is called "Compete for a Cure". You can find them at www.competeforacure.org for all information pertaining to their work and to get support. Scott Britton joins the show to talk about the creation of Battle Cancer and it's impact of shaping the lives of those who are battling the vicious disease of cancer. We talk about how it has impacted us personally as well as Battle Cancer's initiative to help cancer survivors take back their health and what they are doing to empower gyms worldwide to take up the cause. Scott also happens to be quiet hilarious and has an affinity for tattoos, motorcycles and an apparent distaste for shirts. On this episode as well we talk about a competition called "Girls Gone RX" that is being hosted locally in Ocala, Florida by CrossFit Zoo on April 9th. The competition is a 3 Person Women's Team event that is being held nationwide to help bring awareness and support to battle cancer worldwide. You can follow Scott on IG @scottbrits and Battle Cancer IG @battle.cancer Follow CrossFit Zoo and Girls Gone RX on IG @crossfitzoo & @girlsgonerx to find out more about their competition. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wexappeal/support
Another J&C episode this week, full of very important information about the merits of crispy chicken skin, how to cope with the man flu, and why finding motivation to workout on your own is more of a unicorn than Scott is. We also talk about the Girls Gone Rx competition last week, Claire’s synesthesia, and wine. It gets a little random in the best way possible. I think this episode will become an instant GGW Classic! Lindsey Marcelli, the founder of Girls Gone RX and co-owner of CrossFit Eminence, shares her experience in running events and hosting competitions Music: "KYD" by Ryan Little. Link: freemusicarchive.org/music/Ryan_Lit…n_Little_-_KYD.
Gym owner, 321Go Specialist, and Girls Gone Rx founder, Lindsey Marcelli will show you how to crush your next event. Lindsey has put on a ton of events and in true Help First fashion, will show you how to kill it at your next one. To start things off, you can download Lindsey's free event checklist. Second, Lindsey talks about how to stick out from a very crowded event marketplace. Instead of being everything to everybody, try niching down your market to really target very specific athlete groups. Once you've niched down that market, you can begin to do business development with other small businesses in your area. In the case of Girls Gone Rx, Lindsey's partnered with apparel brands, food trucks, and different accessory companies to make her entry fees go as far as possible. You can also use your event as an opportunity to provide even more brand awareness for your gym. Lastly, Lindsey tells us how to advertise our events in a very professional and attractive manner. So, go download Lindsey's checklist and crush that next event!
From 400m sprints and tutus to the most quad destroying WOD ever, we had another amazing experience at this year’s Girls Gone Rx competition, and in this episode we recap every awesome and sweaty (and sometimes painful) moment… and talk about how hard it is to go down stairs right now. The struggle is real, people! And now that the comp is over and fall is here, it’s time to re-visit our summer goals, including having to convince Joy that seeing a concert outdoors doesn’t count as hiking, and set some fall goals. Like to eat more pumpkin things. That’s a good goal, right? Pumpkin spice up your life, guys!
It’s catch up time! Claire and Joy talk about Hawaii, birthdays, and the kombucha beads Claire bought Joy for turning 37. We also discuss the beauty of Pinterest but decide that social media is sucking away our lives, so we do something pretty drastic LIVE on the podcast. Dun dun dunnnnnnn! The Girls Gone Rx competition is coming up (you have a week left to donate!!) and we have new costume ideas, Joy plays Claire the best song ever, and we pretty much don’t disappoint in the girl-talk-randomness department. We love you, too.
Lindsey Marcelli, co-owner of CrossFit Eminence and founder of the Girls Gone Rx competition, is back! In this episode, we chat about Lindsey’s big decision to take Girls Gone Rx nationwide to spread the CrossFit love and raise money for breast cancer awareness and research. And as one of the most accomplished female coaches we know, we also pick Lindsey’s brain about how to approach your first WOD as a newbie CrossFitter, and how to approach your first competition when you’re ready for something new. And be sure to check out www.girlsgonerx.com to see if there’s a Girls Gone Rx competition coming to a box near you!
