Both the basketball teams took a trip to Kansas City and had vastly different outcomes. The ladies went in and took care of business, claiming the conference title on their way out of the Big 12, despite the challenges they've faced this year. Rodney Terry's team had the opposite experience, looking convincing early but struggling to hold onto the lead and losing in their first shot in Kansas City. The Texas Longhorns had a wildly successful weekend on the diamond. The baseball team completed a weekend shutout for just the third time in school history, while the softball pitching continued its hot streak from the circle. The MBB team went to Lubbock and came out with a big win, while the ladies were one shot away from a Big 12 title. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. The baseball season is officially underway with the series win in the 50th opener at the Disch, while the softball team continues to knock off the top teams in the country en route to a No. 2 ranking. The diamonds are heating up, with the baseball team ready for action and the softball team already knocking off top-10 teams. As the seasons get underway, we will quickly find out what these teams are made of with elite matchups hitting in the first month of the season. The softball team rose to No. 2 after going out west and knocking off UCLA in dominating fashion, while the baseball team has high hopes for their final season in the Big 12. The Texas women's basketball team has seemingly rebounded and could potentially deliver on the lofty preseason expectations, despite losing stars to injury. With their recent streak, the Longhorns are right back in contention for the conference title but still have some climbing to do. After notching a pair of back-to-back wins over ranked teams, the Texas Longhorns men's basketball team lost its next two games, one of them in heartbreaking fashion. This time last week, the Texas men's basketball team was coming off of a pair of embarrassments -- a blown lead against UCF and a Horns Down meltdown from head coach Rodney Terry. How did they respond? A pair of ranked wins, including one on the road against No. 11 Oklahoma to move out of the basement of the conference and directly into the NCAA Tournament conversation. Before the wins over No. 9 Baylor and the Sooners, Texas appeared to be on the outside looking in and in peril of a disastrous season. With two wins, it seems like their fortunes and the narrative of the season may have turned. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Intro and Outro: Earth, Wind, Fire by Ryan Little

Coming off of the most successful season this side of 2009, the Texas Longhorns and Chris Del Conte extended head coach Steve Sarkisian's contract another four years through the 2030 season. While the contract details have yet to be released, it's safe to assume that Sarkisian is getting a sizeable raise, with Texas getting Sark's services for a relative discount -- as the third-best paid coach in the Big 12. For context, if Sarkisian was in the SEC for the 2023 season, he would have been No. 13 in the conference, just behind Eli Drinkwitz of Missouri. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. The Texas Longhorns are headed to Louisiana to take on the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl, kicking off the Longhorns' first trip to the College Football Playoff. We're a year removed from these two teams squaring off in the Alamo Bowl, with both squads looking significantly improved in the year that has passed. Texas is stronger and more stout on defense, while the Huskies are an even more refined version of the offensive juggernaut they were in the Alamo City. It was a big week for the Texas Longhorns, with the volleyball team demolishing the top teams in the B1G Ten on the way to its second-consecutive NCAA Championship. Early in the season, it felt like this Texas team may not have been up to the lofty standards set by previous iterations, but when push came to shove they were elite and proved beyond any doubt that they are the best in the nation. Early Signing Day is also upon us, with Texas finding the next crop of talent to take with them into the SEC. For the third straight year, Steve Sarkisian and company brought in an top-five class, positioning themselves alongside the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs as the most talented teams in the SEC going forward. After a somewhat rocky start to the year, the Texas Longhorns volleyball team has caught fire at the right time and has made it back to the NCAA Volleyball Final Four. To get there, Texas had to survive a dramatic outing against a tough Tennessee Volunteers squad and get revenge on the Stanford Cardinal, who swept them earlier in the season. Texas did just that and is now heading to Florida to try and defend its title. How do the Longhorns match up with the field and who needs to play well for Texas to hoist the trophy? The No. 7 Texas Longhorns got an unexpected addition to their revenge tour, a matchup against the Oklahoma State Cowboys for the Big 12 Championship. Recent history against Mike Gundy and the Cowboys has not been pretty for Texas, with the Pokes coming out ahead in seven of the last ten matchups, including the previous two meetings. The Cowboys lost a ton to the transfer portal but managed to do enough, thanks in large part to running back Ollie Gordon, II, to find their way back to Arlington for the matchup. How will Texas shut down the Big 12 offensive player of the year? And what can the Longhorns do to keep the offense on track? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. The No. 7 Texas Longhorns closed out their final regular season in the Big 12 in dominant fashion, blowing out Texas Tech by 50 points to secure their spot in the conference championship game. Texas got it done in familiar fashion, relying on a stout defense and an explosive running attack to close out the Red Raiders and pour it on late. Texas fans have been asking for a four-quarters performance and the Longhorns finally delivered in Game 12. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. The No. 7 Texas Longhorns continue their final trek through the Big 12, heading to Ames for one last tilt against the Iowa State Cyclones -- a place they haven't had significant success recently. Texas managed to flip the script, thanks to some helpful inspiration from Iowa State's players, and came away with a comfortable victory against the Cyclones. With the win, Texas keeps itself alive for both the conference and CFP race, with one game left on the calendar. It's the Midday Newswrap. Since last spring, when a viral TikTok video showed thieves how to steal Kia and Hyundai cars in less than a minute, the rate of auto thefts in Baltimore has exponentially outpaced neighboring jurisdictions, and cities like Philadelphia and Washington, DC. The No. 7 Texas Longhorns are faced with yet another tough test on their return to relevance. A win this week gives them their first 10-win regular season since 2009 and clinches a spot in the Big 12 championship game. Standing in the way of that is a foe that has won three of the last four games against the Longhorns -- the Iowa State Cyclones. Matt Campbell's squad is surging and is a part of that massive tie for second place in the conference and a spot in Arlington. A win over Texas puts them in control of their own destiny, while a loss effectively removes them from the race. How will Texas fare in the chilly Iowa night? The No. 7 Texas Longhorns once again built up a big early lead befoe watching it dwindle against the TCU Horned Frogs, but did enough to hold off the comeback and come away with a win. Texas moves to 9-1 on the year, with the passing game having trouble finding consistency and star running back Jonathon Brooks out with a knee injury. Melissa Triebwasser of the Frogs Insider Pod and Dave Campbell's Texas Football joins to discuss Texas' last meeting with TCU in the Big 12 (good riddance). The No. 7 Texas Longhorns got off to about as dominant start as anyone could've dreamed in a Top 25 matchup -- holding a 320 to 33 yard advantage with a minute left in the first half... Maalik Murphy and the Texas offense sputtered in the second half and gave the defense impossibly short fields to defend, allowing Kansas State to force OT. With their backs against the wall and up by 3, the defense unleash an epic goal line stand to keep their conference and postseason goals alive. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. The No. 7 Texas Longhorns are seemingly in control of their own destiny for a spot in the Big 12 Championship and presumably a chance at their first berth in the College Football Playoff. The only thing that stands in their way is the four teams remaining on their schedule, starting with the Kansas State Wildcats, who are coming off two dominant performances. The No. 7 Texas Longhorns went into the day against the BYU Cougars with questions at the quarterback position as Maalik Murphy took over for an injured Quinn Ewers. As Murphy adjusted to the speed of the game, the defense stepped up and shut down BYU and once Murphy got his feet underneath him, the Longhorns ran away with a big win. The No. 7 Texas Longhorns continue to march their way toward a rematch with OU in Arlington and next they welcome the BYU Cougars to Austin. The last time the Longhorns faced BYU, it was an embarrassing way to kick off the Charlie Strong era, a portent of things to come for the next three years. Texas and BYU are both in different positions now, with the Longhorns prepared to take off to the SEC and the Cougars finally making their way to the Big 12 as a part of the conference's reload effort. The No. 7 Texas Longhorns built a three-score lead then, in a flashback of days thought gone, let the Houston Cougars claw back into competition and had to hold off a late surge. In just three seasons under Vic Schaefer, the Texas Longhorns accomplished something that hadn't happened in two decades -- the women's basketball team claimed the Big 12 championship. Now, the expectations are higher than ever, with the most talented group that's been on campus since hall-of-fame coach Jody Conradt took Texas to the conference title and beyond. Returning all-conference players from a year ago, with talented additions coming in from the transfer portal and high school ranks, the Longhorns hope to make another deep run in the tournament after an uncharacteristically early exit a year ago. We took advantage of the football bye week and dove in on the 2023-24 Texas Longhorns men's basketball team. After keeping the team on the right track a year ago and earning his spot as the men's basketball coach, Rodney Terry takes the reins for the start of the season and hopes to improve on a deep run that had a disappointing end a year ago. He needed to reload and did just that, through some key transfers and late additions from the high school ranks. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. The Texas Longhorns had a shot to win the game late, but couldn't overcome the early struggles and the tenacious Oklahoma offense, falling in the Red River Rivalry. The defense had an outing to forget, thanks in large part to the dynamic play of Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel, while Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers had to play lights-out late to make up for early struggles. With all of that said, Texas still was in the game and even had a chance for a last-second miracle score, but couldn't make the game-winning catch as time expired. What does this mean for the rest of the season and beyond? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Intro and Outro: Earth, Wind, Fire by Ryan Little
The No. 3 Texas Longhorns have another chance to tick a box in the "Texas is getting back to where it belongs" checklist with a win over the Oklahoma Sooners. OU has faced less-than-elite talent but has done what good teams do against outmatched opponents, dominated them in multiple phases of the game. With their toughest matchup coming up, will they be able to keep up the pace against the Longhorns? Texas, coming off of a blowout win over Kansas without the services of quarterback Jalon Daniels, has yet to play an offense or a defense with the supposed potency of the Sooners. The No. 3 Texas Longhorns continued their march through the Big 12 one last time with a lopsided win over the Kansas Jayhawks. Texas benefitted from an unexpected scratch of Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels, who was struggling with back tightness before the game Saturday. Backup Jason Bean, an elite athlete in his own right, could not keep the offense on pace, while the Longhorns found their rhythm on the ground thanks to the offensive line and Jonathon Brooks. The No. 3 Texas Longhorns are continuing their final march through the Big 12, taking on the resurgent Kansas Jayhawks -- who are on a surge of their own. Led by Jalon Daniels, the Jayhawks have become one of the top offenses in the country, leaning on a balanced attack to keep defenders off-schedule and guessing. A year ago, Texas managed to shut that offense down while Daniels recovered from an injury, but the signal-caller is healthy and ready to pace the Jayhawks. A strength-on-strength matchup, the Texas defense has been nothing short of elite but has yet to face a challenge on-par with the Jayhawks. What can Texas do to come out on top? The No. 3 Texas Longhorns went to Waco and did what good teams do against outmatched opponents, looked dominant on both sides of the ball and came away with a lopsided win. Whether it is the defense keeping Baylor from scoring and handling quick changes with relative ease, the continued emergence of Jonathon Brooks as a running threat, or Quinn Ewers returning to form and showing off why NFL Scouts like him, the Longhorns looked the part on Saturday. The No. 3 Texas Longhorns kick off their final season of Big 12 play with a trip up I-35 to take on the Baylor Bears in Waco. For the last five seasons, Texas and Baylor have both held serve at home, with Texas closing out the Bears to end the 2022 regular season in front of the crowd at DKR. Baylor may be having a down year, but the Bears know that they can salvage a terrible start, climb back to .500, and hold bragging rights over a resurgent Texas for years to come with a win this week. The Texas Longhorns had to shake off a little Alabama hangover when the Wyoming Cowboys came to Austin, hoping to keep their trajectory moving in the right direction. It was uncomfortable for a while, tied 10-10 going into the fourth quarter, but the Longhorns once again turned on the jets late and pulled away from the Cowboys. Texas has seemingly become a second-half team, somewhat in an effort to overcome the slow starts they've suffered so far this year. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. After knocking off the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Texas Longhorns face one of the toughest challenges in sports, making sure that the emotional high from a big win doesn't cost you the next game. They welcome to Austin the undefeated Wyoming Cowboys, who opened the season with an upset win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Now, with an eye to pull off an even bigger upset, they bring their explosive offense to the Forty Acres. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. After a week's worth of doubts, the Texas Longhorns went into Tuscaloosa and knocked off Nick Sabana and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Whether it was the performance of the quarterback Quinn Ewers, dominance in the trenches, or turning over Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, Texas seemed to be a match for the annual power. The Texas Longhorns are on the road for the first time this year, and leaving the state of Texas for the first of two times this year. Texas has revenge on their minds after the Tide came to Austin a year ago and squeaked out a one-point win in DRK. However, the Longhorns will have to improve on several facets on offense if they're going to pull off the upset. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. The Texas Longhorns finally kicked off the 2023 season and came away with a decisive victory over the Rice Owls, exposing a few things Texas still needs to work on throughout the season. While the defense played lights out, including a near-record performance against the run, some of the offensive issues that plagued Texas a year ago again showed up in the passing game. In our final show before the Texas Longhorns take the field, we dive in on our expectations for the full season. With just one week left until the Texas Longhorns kickoff, we reach our final position preview, the special teams. The Longhorns were a relatively solid team in the third phase a year ago but looked to upgrade the punter spot and find a bit more consistency in the block and return game. They went out into the portal and grabbed Stanford transfer Ryan Sanborn at punter and added depth in the punting units. We continue rapidly approaching the kickoff of the Texas Longhorns' season so we must take a moment to dive in on the recruiting landscape before starting the final season in the Big 12. We are just three weeks out from the Texas Longhorns' season which means our season previews are coming to the non-conference weeks and the Wyoming Cowboys. Wyoming struggled offensively last year and lost their key weapon in the running game, so how will the Cowboys structure the offense to hopefully improve from a year ago? As we close in on two weeks from the Texas Longhorns' kickoff, we come to the penultimate position group preview -- the defensive backs. This group, much like their offensive counterparts the wide receivers, have an incredibly high ceiling and a yet-to-be-determined floor. While that floor is likely quite high based on the talent of the group, a lack of meaningful cohesion and reps means this group may need a few games to fully find its stride. We are coming closer to the season and we are on week two of our defensive previews, bringing us to the linebackers. Jaylan Ford, preseason All-Big 12 defensive player of the year, leads the relatively unproven group that will need to mature fast in order to contribute. David Gbenda and Morice Blackwell have reps but have not reached the heights Texas needs, while elite freshman Anthony Hill has a clear path to development while finding ways to contribute. We are rapidly approaching the Texas Longhorns' 2023 kickoff and have reached the first conference game of the year, the Baylor Bears. Two years ago, Dave Aranda took the Bears to the conference championship, but struggled in year three and ended the year 6-7 with a conference loss. Baylor struggled defensively, while the offense had a mix of high highs and low lows. So which result is closer to the expectation for the Bears in 2023? We are rapidly approaching the season and so too are we approaching the end of our season previews, with the Kansas Jayhawks. The folks in Lawrence return nearly every key player from an offense that put them into the national conversation before injuries hit the quarterback position. Conversely, they lose the three best players from a defense that struggled to get stops last year.
