Intro: Have there have been times in you life when you made plans, but your plans fell through? Some of those plans could have included some ministries. But, you may hit a snag, or a shut door, or some other obstacle that might legitimately keep you from what you had planned. Let me suggest that it could be that the Holy Spirit is redirecting you for reasons that you may not understand at that moment. We, you and I, need to get better at letting the Holy Spirit lead. This can be a problem for a Christ follower with a type A personality or a person who has a controlling personality. This passage in Acts 15:36 to 16:10 gives us some important insights about the leading of the Holy Spirit. First, let me explain a little bit about the person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit Can Lead During Conflict v.36 -41The argument between Paul and BarnabasBoth were angryBoth left angryBut God uses both teamsBarnabas and Mark to CyprusPaul and Silas to Syria and Cilicia Both teams encouraging the churchesTwo new teamsMore coverage for the gospelTraining more peopleSpreading the gospelFor the glory of GodThe Holy Spirit Calls and Leads Believers 16:1-5TimothyOn the job trainingGood characterPart of a discipling teamTimothy would later become a very effective pastor of a churchPaul looked at Timothy as his son in the LordThe Holy Spirit Can Lead Through Visions V.6-10God can change our plans because He has something else in mindIf we stay obedient to the Word of God, He will show us His will through the Holy SpiritIt seems that God is always preparing the way for His kingdom workWe need to slow down, be in the Word, and listen to the Holy SpiritThe Holy Spirit will never contradict the Word of God or the will of GodHe will never ask us to do something that is contrary to the Word of GodThe Holy Spirit is the One who opens hearts, teaches, convicts, and invites Closing:So, I would like to ask all of us this question; Who is leading you? Is it the world's system, the celebrities, the media, or yourself? For a Christ follower, we need to be continually in the Word of God, in prayer, and being sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Proverbs 3:5-6.

Noah waited for a long time in the ark. He didn't complain, He only kept faith in God and when the time finally came to come forth, Noah worshipped God and God was pleased.
Intro: Have you ever had a hearing test? I have had many. Usually an audiologist will do an evaluation on how well we hear. I would like to suggest that God can easily tell well you an I are listening and hearing. Let me give you a few examples: Also, our concept of believing today is vastly different than the concept in biblical times. Today, the concept is to acknowledge something intellectually. So, you and I can say we believe something but not act on it. The readers of James' letter would have understood the word, "faith/believe" a bit differently. Faith/believe in the original language had the connotation to embrace a concept with your mind, heart , and will. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that they did that. James now starts to address this apparent disconnect in some believers lives between just talking the talk, and walking the talk. He addresses three key attitudes for putting faith in action in the life of a Christ follower. We Need to Be Teachable Take note, listen intently to what James says Being teachable implies that we need to listen very intently Be slow to speak Be slow to anger Receive the Word humbly Meditate on it Let it sink into our hearts Ask the Holy Spirit to help us be obedient We Need to Put the Word Into Action By faith and in the power of the holy Spirit, be doers/not deceived The Word should encourage and reveal The law shows us what a holy God requires of us and His holiness It leads us to the need for a Savior because we fall short For a Christ follower, we need to let the Word and Spirit of God search our hearts and show us what needs to be corrected and confessed Or, we will hate and run from the Word The Holy Spirit and the Word will transform us from the inside out if we yield In Christ, we are truly free to obey Him We will be blessed for our obedience We Need to Do True Religion Avoid the trap of self-righteousness Usually the ones who talk much about how good they are and how unholy other people are the self-righteous True faith loves others True faith show itself in supernatural humility Pursue holiness with the help of the Holy Spirit Closing: So the first question I would like to ask this morning is how well are we hearing the Word of God? The second question I would like to ask is are we doers of the Word in loving obedience? There is no freedom on the face of this earth better than lovingly obeying the Word of God in our love affair with Jesus Christ.

Identity in Christ - I believe I am significant because of my position as a child of God.John 1:12- Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God–Scripture: Matthew 12:1-14At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. 2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.” 3 He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? 5 Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless? 6 I tell you, something greater than the temple is here. 7 And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.” 9 He went on from there and entered their synagogue. 10 And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse him. 11 He said to them, “Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” 13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And the man stretched it out, and it was restored, healthy like the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.Intro:Have you ever known someone who was too proud or stubborn to receive a gift from you or someone else? How about someone so set in his ways that he resisted ever attempting something new? Have you ever been surprised or confused over someone’s behavior because it was not what you expected? These questions reflect some responses to Jesus’ life and ministry. As we have established, Jesus did not come to Israel according to her messianic expectations. He came to radically reshape people’s thinking. Some humbled themselves and rose to the occasion. Others were only superficial in their response, not surviving the long haul. Still others, especially among the Pharisees and religious leaders, resisted so vehemently Jesus once said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in” (Matt. 23:13). Notice that their resistance not only closed the door for themselves; it also “shut up” the kingdom of heaven to others as well. As teachers of the Old Testament, they should have been opening up the kingdom of God to their disciples.Message of the Passage:Like a first-rate novelist or journalist, Matthew introduces an increasing tension in his recounting of the life of Jesus, foreshadowing a deathly show-down to come. Specifically, it is the healing of a man’s withered hand on the Sabbath that prompts the Pharisees to begin counseling together how to destroy Jesus. This, in turn, leads to Christ’s withdrawal to the Sea of Galilee with a great multitude from many places, where He continues to perform miracles and cast out demons. Since even Christ’s own family and friends misunderstand His message and ministry, it is not surprising when Matthew records blasphemous accusations by the scribes and Pharisees. While winning the debates, Jesus cannot win his opponents. Reluctantly, He realizes that He must take the offensive and settle the issue if He is to get on with His ministry of service to needy, waiting, and responsive people. This backlash results in the announcement by Jesus of new spiritual ties, or a redefinition of what it means to relate rightly to God. Those who hear and embrace Christ’s message by faith are part of God’s family. All others, no matter how religious or sincere, are excluded from knowing or pleasing God.Personal Reflection:Use the following questions to help review the application of God’s Word to our Head (What does God want me to know?), to our Heart (What does God want me to desire/value?), and to our Hands (What does God want me to do?)
Intro: Have you ever thought about writing a book? Are you one of the many people who have a started manuscript â?? or several started manuscripts â?? but just canâ??t seem to finish one? Or have you finished a book and now have no idea of how to get it published? A 2002 survey by The Jenkins Group showed that more than 81% of Americans have a book in them. If you are one of the millions of Americans who are either writing a book â?? or thinking about writing a book, Antoinette Kuritz, Book Developer, Publicist, Media Coach, Author, Publishing Expert and Founder of the LaJolla Writers Conference is here with a few tips from behind the book cover. Tips: Define what you want to write. Doing this provides focus to your writing. Fiction or non-fiction? If itâ??s fiction, what genre? Romance, suspense, mystery? If itâ??s non-fiction, self-help, inspiration, a cook book? Know what you want to write. Determine your reading audience. Adults or young adults, middle graders or pre-schoolers. Men or women? Boys or girls? Or both? Knowing who your reading audience is helps determine the length of the book, the format, the vocabulary, and it further focuses your writing. Make and take the time to write. With our oh-so-busy lives, this may be the most difficult thing to do. We tend to keep our day jobs and write second shift, and then we feel guilty about time taken from our family or significant other. But if you want to be a writer, you have to take this time, give yourself permission to do so. Be consistent. Set aside a specific time on specific days that are dedicated to your writing, and then use that time to write. In short, keep to a schedule. A page a day means a book in a year. Create a writing space for yourself. Whether you write at the local coffee house, in your office after hours, or in the pantry of your house, make a space for yourself that you associate with writing, where you can keep your notes, even put up a story board or chapter headings â?? someplace that reminds you of the task at hand. Join a writers group. Accountability is often the difference between someone who writes and someone who wants to write. And joining a writerâ??s group means weekly or bi-weekly accountability â?? the need to have a certain number of pages done by a certain point. Be willing to take editorial advice. This is often the hardest thing for aspiring authors â?? taking advice about their manuscript. But know that even the manuscripts of hugely successful writers go through several edits before they are published. Choose and attend a great writerâ??s conference. Great writerâ??s conferences help you hone your craft, teach you about the business, and provide invaluable contacts. If you seek to traditionally publish, they get you in front of agents and editors, and even successful writers who will give you a leg up. If you want to self-publish, they help you understand the process and know what to look for in your publishing team. In short, a great conference can help you avoid all the pitfalls and can help jumpstart your writing career.
