THE WEEK OF TRINITY X - SUNDAYLESSON: LUKE 19:41‒48When He drew near and saw the city, He wept over it. Luke 19:41The events described in this Gospel occurred on the day we usually call Palm Sunday when Jesus, amidst public acclaim, entered Jerusalem as the king of grace. On that occasion He proceeded at once to the temple, and there He preached for three days on end. This He had never done before. The sum and content of this Gospel is Christ's deep concern over those who despise God's Word and His lament over their ultimate distress. You have often heard what the Word of God is, what it brings with it, and what kind of students it encounters. This Gospel tells us nothing of these aspects. It simply sets before us the punishment and distress which will come upon the Jews because they did not know the time of their visitation. We must take a close look at all this because it also concerns us. If those are punished who do not know the time of their visitation, what will be the fate of those who knowingly persecute, blaspheme, and dishonor the Gospel and the Word of God? Here, however, Jesus speaks only of those who do not know the time of their visitation. There are two ways of preaching against those who despise the Word of God. Christ illustrates one method when He pronounces His woes upon Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum, declaring that it will be more tolerable for Tyre, Sidon, and Sodom on the day of judgement than for these places (Matthew 11:20‒24).The other method of dealing with those who reject God's Word is illustrated here in this Gospel when Jesus weeps over Jerusalem. He feels the deepest of compassion for these poor, blind people. He does not reprove or threaten them as hardened and deluded sinners. His heart melts in love for them. He has compassion for those enemies.SL 11:1468 (1‒4)AE 78:346-361PRAYER: Lord Jesus, as You shed tears of mercy and compassion over Jerusalem, so also let us experience Your love and compassion whenever we stand before You as sinners in need of salvation, for Your mercy and truth's sake. Amen.

Carnival season is dearly missed. Under normal circumstances, a bulk of the Caribbean carnival community would have been back home recuperating from a vibe-filled Trinidad carnival experience. BUT...that’s not the case in 2021. Instead, the Trinidad borders remain closed (for good reason), and the best we can do is listen to new soca music, wine in our abodes and relive the precious memories. I’m happy to start this carnival tabanca series off in Trinidad, with Ron...the man behind one of the most notable carnival groups on the Caribbean scene.Covered in this episode:Tips for traveling to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands 1:08Tips for traveling to Aruba 05:27Sha’s Trinidad Carnival virgin story 09:45All about Limin’ Professionals: The Syndicate (LPTS) with Ron 14:41The highs and lows of planning a carnival tour group 32:45Ron’s top three Trinidad carnival fetes 39:00Tips for Trinidad carnival newbies 44:38Sha’s 5 ways to conquer Trinidad carnival 01:02:12If you’re ready to do a deep dive into my T&T adventures, HERE you will find every Trinidad-related piece I have ever created. Intro: Have there have been times in you life when you made plans, but your plans fell through? Some of those plans could have included some ministries. But, you may hit a snag, or a shut door, or some other obstacle that might legitimately keep you from what you had planned. Let me suggest that it could be that  the Holy Spirit is redirecting you for reasons that you may not understand at that moment. We, you and I, need to get better at letting the Holy Spirit lead. This can be a problem for a Christ follower with a type A personality or a person who has a controlling personality. This passage in Acts 15:36 to 16:10 gives us some important insights about the leading of the Holy Spirit. First, let me explain a little bit about the person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit Can Lead During Conflict v.36 -41The argument between Paul and BarnabasBoth were angryBoth left angryBut God uses both teamsBarnabas and Mark to CyprusPaul and Silas to Syria and Cilicia Both teams encouraging the churchesTwo new teamsMore coverage for the gospelTraining more peopleSpreading the gospelFor the glory of GodThe Holy Spirit Calls and Leads Believers  16:1-5TimothyOn the job trainingGood characterPart of a discipling teamTimothy would later become a very effective pastor of a churchPaul looked at Timothy as his son in the LordThe Holy Spirit Can Lead Through Visions V.6-10God can change our plans because He has something else in mindIf we stay obedient to the Word of God, He will show us His will through the Holy SpiritIt seems that God is always preparing the way for His kingdom workWe need to slow down, be in the Word, and listen to the Holy SpiritThe Holy Spirit will never contradict the Word of God or the will of GodHe will never ask us to do something that is contrary to the Word of GodThe Holy Spirit is the One who opens hearts, teaches, convicts, and invites  Closing:So, I would like to ask all of us this question; Who is leading you? Is it the world's system, the celebrities, the media, or yourself? For a Christ follower, we need to be continually in the Word of God, in prayer, and being sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Proverbs 3:5-6.

Today we talk about the master or primary bathroom and the tricks we have learned over the years designing this space for respite and comfort. Are you a baither or do you prefer a shower? A lesson we have learned the hard was is to be sure you take the time to sit in your tub before you install it to make sure it is a good match for your body and lifestyle. If you are the kind of person who likes a shower, be sure you are measuring for your shower heads and body sprayers so they hit in all the right spots. Something we are doing a lot of work on is shower rooms that contain both a shower and a bathtub for those who like to enjoy both. We discuss the vanity and emphasize storage space for your various beauty products and toiletries. In this episode we talk to Brad Birnbaum, co-founder and CEO of Kustomer, Matt Dixon, Chief Product and Research Officer at Tethr, and Lauren Pragoff, Vice President of Effortless Experience at Challenger. We talk about some of the largest issues and challenges companies have been facing during the pandemic, such as employees transitioning to working from home and how they’ve had to crack down on making help readily available through their online channels. Another thing they’ve seen is an increase in inquiry volume and a lack of reps to meet the demand of these inquiries. We discuss the fact that the world is ready for more machine learning and more advanced artificial intelligence to meet the needs of this increasing demand. Lauren has seen that a third of companies are actually seeing a decrease in inquiries with the pandemic, so they’ve had to use a proactive outreach approach to keep reps busy. We talk about how many customers go to a lot of third party sources of information in order to get the answer to their questions, such as Youtube or Google, but these sources aren’t always reliable. Brad tells us about a technological shift companies should be using to meet the needs and desires of customers, such as reaching out and answering their question before they actually ask it.Guest introductions 1:41The biggest challenge companies are facing and how they are overcoming it 3:56How Matt has seen people doing more with less 12:28Types of technologies companies should be adopting now to make this change more successful 25:42“The thing that really got our customers to stay on our website and not get frustrated, pick up the phone and call is when we started writing at a grade 5 to 7 reading level so that customers could absorb that information quickly. Eight Years Sober, and So Much More This episode is a very unique Becoming Bulletproof episode. I discuss a special day that signifies 8 years of sobriety and open up about the events in my life that led to each of my compensatory addictions. I share my journey and how it was shaped internally and externally, how I hurt the ones I loved along the way, and the specific moments that led up to me finally deciding to get help.Listen to this episode if you are struggling with anything in the current state of the world, learn how to find compassion and love for yourself no matter what you have been through, and how to make the commitment to yourself to show up, choose the wilderness, and do the work every single day—because you deserve joy. Where it all started I start this episode sharing a story about the first time I drank, how I was 15 years old and wound up not remembering anything from the night. I share the events that led up to my engagement, how I thought getting married and moving away would fix it all—and how wrong I was. For my family I discuss the behaviors that were modeled to me by my own parents, and the movie that wrapped up my past and future, how it paralyzed me but left me with nowhere to turn and no way out. Three years later my daughter was born, and I delve into how my eating habits and addiction worsened as my family grew. I describe the pivotal moment when my daughter was 4 years old that changed my life forever, and the long journey to get help that followed. The journey ahead Looking back on the past 8 years, I share the moments I struggled without the tools I needed. I talk about how true recovery happens with willingness to acknowledge your own part in it and take ownership in order to make sense of the puzzle that is your life. I offer advice on how to step into the wilderness and be aware of your spiritual condition, be committed to working on it, and stop giving into anxieties of the future and past so that you can live in the present with the joy you deserve.Quotes:2:49Nature vs nurture is a real thing.12:01We do what we are modeled, taught, and told.18:41The desire to drink wasn't there but the desire to not feel was.22:34Just because we change our minds doesn't mean we didn't feel that strong back then.22:41When we know better, we do better; when we grow, we evolve.30:50Acknowledgement—it’s like the wilderness right, and recovery is the holy grail.34:45The good thing about taking ownership, is that nobody can take it from us.35:33Vulnerability is the superpower of all great things.42:59I see all the beautiful parts of you that you're hiding under the shame, that you're hiding under things that don't serve you.45:53Personal development is just recovery in a lot of ways.46:02What we have is a daily reprieve that is contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.

That's what we're talking about on Sparking Growth today! Here is a cheat sheet of some of the episode highlights:Anni's intro, 00:55Anni's current client onboarding system, 1:40Dubsado: Anni's new CRM, 3:43How workflows will help Anni's client onboarding, 4:40Reducing your email inbox overload within Dubsado, 7:12Setting up a new client onboarding system within Dubsado, 8:24Budgeting and why a CRM like Dubsado is worth the cost, 10:41The importance of a CRM's customer service, 12:43Back to the client onboarding workflow! 14:05Invoicing and accounting in Dubsado, 15:36-If you're looking for an accountant, here's the link I mentioned for my accountant Shaneh!- (Don't forget to tell her I sent you. ?)Dubsado's 3-client trial, 17:50-Here's the link we mentioned for Dubsado's Facebook group-Dubsado's canned emails and free template library, 20:33-Here's the link I mentioned for Dubsado's list of upcoming features-Where to find Anni! 22:42Let’s dive a little deeper into a few solutions to help you improve your client onboarding system, though!1 | Utilizing workflows in a CRM system like DubsadoWhether or not you have a system in place already, moving to a CRM like Dubsado can drastically improve your client experience and reduce the administration time you have to spend on each project. Dubsado works for SO many types of businesses - photographers, consultants, coaches, even retail locations! By setting up workflows within a CRM, you can streamline your system and make it seamless for your clients. For example, Anni could set her workflows up like this:A lead fills out the inquiry form on her website → Dubsado sends them an emailing thanking them for their inquiry along with a questionnaire based on which service they selected on the inquiry form → Once the questionnaire is filled out, they receive an email with Anni's scheduling linkAs of the time of this writing, Dubsado's upcoming built-in scheduling tool isn't available yet, but once it is, these two workflows would merge. For now, after Anni meets with the lead, she could trigger a second workflow that could look something like this:After the meeting, Dubsado sends the client Anni's proposal → If the client accepts, they just have to sign and initial as indicated → Dubsado automatically signs the contract AND invoice and fills in the client's details for Anni → The client initials and signs the contract and pays their 50% deposit, all from the same window as the proposal! That's it. Literally all Anni has had to do is meet with the client and make sure that the proposal meets their needs, then trigger the second workflow. Dubsado is like entrepreneurial magic!Don't let yourself get pulled into a time suck. Just because your current system mostly-kinda-sorta-works-usually doesn't mean you should keep using it!2 | Why a CRM like Dubsado is worth the costThere's more that goes into a decision like whether or not to purchase a CRM system than just the money. Anni estimated that she spends about an HOUR per client to go through the same process that Dubsado could do almost completely automatically. That's an hour that Anni could spend with her son, take a break, or make connections with even more new clients! That one hour of Anni's time is worth SO much more than the $25 she would spend each month on Dubsado. (Of course, she could also get a yearly subscription and save $4+ each month, plus get 30% off her first month or year of Dubsado through this referral link.)If you think that you can't afford a CRM, take a look at how much time you're spending on administration tasks. Grab a trial of Dubsado or another CRM and see what tasks you could automate. If you realize you're spending more than an hour on each client's administration, it's worth it to subscribe to a CRM. (Because I hope you're charging at least $25 per hour!)The time you'll save through a CRM is time you can spend on other income-generating activities like networking or building new programs or services, or even just letting yourself relax so that you don't burn out.3 | You have nothing to lose on a CRM like DubsadoTrials are free! Seriously, you have nothing to lose. That is all.You can get your free trial of Dubsado (and save 30% off your first month or year if you end up subscribing) by clicking this sentence and signing up!Want to connect with Anni? You cand now find her on Instagram and Twitter @heyannejeanette. War Cartoonist Joe Sacco on How Portland's Housing Crisis Is Like a Refugee CrisisYou might find and unusual comic stuffed in your mailbox or slipped under the door in the coming weeks. Titled "Rent Crisis," it's by the award-winning Portland journalist and artist Joe Sacco. He’s spent his life creating wry black-and-white comics about people who live in war zones like Palestine, Bosnia, and Chechnya, but his latest project focuses on a conflict closer to home. Sacco’s friends with Chloe Eudaly, who owns the independent bookstore Reading Frenzy and is running for a seat on Portland’s city council, and this six-page comic came from a day they spent traveling around Portland interviewing people who are struggling to pay the rent.Physical Education Works Up a Sweat - 6:46Some issues have to be worked out on the dance floor. Which is one reason four Portland performers — keyon gaskin, Allie Hankins, Lu Yim, and Takahiro Yamamoto — came together to form Physical Education. What began as four friends getting together for a meal evolved into a published reading list, open meetups, workshops, performances, and now a year-long residency at the Pacific Northwest College of Art's Center for Contemporary Art and Culture. Comic Bri Pruett - 14:21Portland comic Bri Pruett is a tireless performer. She has made a name for herself for taking on everything from her Clackamas childhood to her own body with fearlessness and wit. August Wilson's Widow on Portland Playhouse's Staging of His Autobiography - 22:41The late August Wilson was hugely influential in shaping the narratives of black life in theaters. His “American Century Cycle” is a series of ten plays about African-American life over the course of the 20th century — one per decade. Portland Playhouse, under the direction of Brian Weaver, is methodically working its way through the Cycle, creating a whole new audience for Wilson in Portland. And this fall, Portland Playhouse is offering another sample of Wilson’s work that few audiences nationwide have seen: his one-man, autobiographical show “How I Learned What I Learned,” through Nov. 6. Think Out Loud spoke with Wilson's widow, Constanza Romero, a Seattle-based, Tony-nominated costume designer, about the life and work of her late husband. Aunt Jemima, Buckwheat, and Don’t Shoot — Painter Arvie Smith on Why None of This Is New - 30:26When you see Pacific Northwest College of Art Professor Emeritus Arvie Smith’s vivid, explosive paintings at the Portland Art Museum later this month, you might think they were created last week. But to know Smith’s decades-spanning work is to realize that there’s nothing new about what happened in Minneapolis and Baton Rouge this month. He tells us about his art and life, which is book-ended on one end by the Jim Crow South and on the other by smart phone videos capturing the shooting of black Americans by police.Filmmaker Irene Taylor Brodsky Chases Slenderman to the Internet's Darkest Corners - 37:02In 2014, two Wisconsin girls attacked one of their friends with a knife. They said they did it to please Slenderman, an internet boogeyman often depicted as a tall, faceless villain in a dark suit. Slenderman is a work of fiction — he was invented as part of a web contest to create a new horror figure — but that hasn’t stopped him from capturing the minds of children across the country. The award-winning Portland filmmaker Irene Taylor Brodsky spent 18 months following the trial of the two girls, Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier. The result is the documentary “Beware the Slenderman.” opbmusic Session: Okkervil River - 42:03For almost two decades, Okkervil River has been the main artistic outlet for songwriter Will Sheff. The band had some critical success, but Sheff became unhappy with the creative direction of the past few years. Instead of dissolving the band and starting over from scratch, though, he made an unconventional decision. He kept the band name, but made a hard reset.
