As the host of the Lessons in Leadership podcast, I've had the privilege of speaking with incredible thought leaders who bring deep wisdom and real-world experience to the table. Recently, I sat down with Jane Williams to discuss one of the most critical yet overlooked aspects of leadership: finding your voice and finding your fire.Jane has spent over 25 years in the IT industry, working primarily with female leaders transitioning into executive roles. Her insights are particularly relevant in male-dominated fields where finding one's voice can be a challenge. Our conversation revolved around the struggles leaders face when stepping into new roles, the importance of knowing your “why,” and how to cultivate the confidence to speak up and stand out.If you like today's message, here are five ways I can help you grow faster…1. At a young age, Jane was known to be intellectual and creative. She even skipped ahead to the first grade, and while this helped her academically, she was personally overwhelmed by the transition, causing her to become shy and reserved. This condition seemed to plague her path for years, until the day came to do a speaking presentation for her IT graduate class. She realized that she didn't want to be remembered for falling apart and failing...but for giving an amazing performance. The time had come to find her fire and rise to the challenge, which is exactly what she did. This launched a transformation that not only gave her the courage and confidence to speak up and stand up for herself, it fueled an enormously successful career at IBM, where she flourished in a male-dominated industry over the next two decades. During her time there, she gained extensive experience managing global teams in Fortune 500 companies and a multitude of industries. And, after making her way around many brick walls and traveling across the world, she knew it was time to ignite her solo career and pay it forward.Today, Jane coaches ambitious women in IT to get clarity on their career, claim their voice, and find their fire. After successfully climbing the leadership ladder and charting her own path to success, she now helps other women rise to their idea of success in their careers. Jane is an exceptional problem solver who is certified in Design Thinking, with a Masters in Information Technology and a Doctorate in Leadership of Remote Teams. She actively listens and creates order out of the chaos to help her clients clarify and capture their desired career path. In this episode of the Lessons in Leadership podcast, I had the privilege of sitting down with Jim Hardwick, a man whose journey from corporate America to servant leadership is nothing short of inspiring. Our conversation revolved around a simple yet profound idea—how serving others can elevate not just our businesses, but our lives as a whole. And at the heart of it all? A safari trip to Kenya that turned into a life-changing mission. If you like today's message, here are five ways I can help you grow faster… 1. Conduct a mindset, sales, or leadership training workshop for your team. https://www.billstorm.com/ Jim Hardwick's life changed forever when he chose to go beyond his borders. Growing up in Speedway, Indiana, he had little chance to travel during his childhood. So, when the opportunity arose to join Up With People and spend time with 125 other kids from 25 different countries, he seized the chance to expand his horizons. That trip made such an impact on his life, and set the trajectory for success. What followed was 36 years in corporate America, helping sales teams and leaders generate consistent revenue. And while this has always been fulfilling, Jim knew there had to be more. That's when a fateful trip to Kenya revealed his true calling. He went at the encouragement of a friend, and in a single moment, discovered a need that would pivot his life in ways he could not have imagined. While on safari, Jim visited a medical clinic for the Masai people, and learned that they didn't have access to critical dental care. Since his wife, Jody, is a dental hygienist, he knew instantly how to solve that problem. Ten months later, he had founded the Hardwick Foundation, and they led their first dental team to Kenya. In this inaugural trip, 191 people were treated and 258 procedures were performed in a tent, at no charge to the patients. The impact was instant and significant, and that's the moment he knew his mission was much larger than himself. Today, Jim helps servant leaders go beyond their borders through a program he created called Magnificent Significance. He serves small to midsize business owners who want to live intentional lives and achieve superabundance through service. His experience includes over 25 years in executive leadership, helping his clients generate profitable revenue while taking a deeper look into what really matters by igniting a business culture of engagement and collaboration. Jim has traveled to 42 countries and experienced many different cultures. He is also a keynote speaker who shares his unique servant leadership journey from sales to nonprofits to safaris. He and Jody are proud to be the 2022 recipients of the James E. MacLennan Everyday Hero award through Up With People. His core mission is to encourage his clients to embrace their servant's heart to elevate their business. When I started the Lessons in Leadership podcast, my goal was simple: to explore the principles that elevate leaders to their fullest potential. This week, I had the privilege of interviewing Janet M. Harvey, author of From Tension to Transformation: A Leader's Guide to Generative Change. Our conversation was a masterclass in authentic leadership, the power of vulnerability, and embracing tension as a catalyst for growth. Janet describes herself as an alchemist, someone who transforms what exists into something greater. She left corporate life in 1996 to pursue her calling of helping others navigate change and awaken to their authentic selves. "Life gets easier when you align with your core passion," Janet shared. But, she cautioned, "easier doesn't mean without struggle." I'm incredibly grateful to Janet M. Harvey for sharing her wisdom and insights on the Lessons in Leadership podcast. If you're ready to embrace tension as a catalyst for transformation, I highly recommend picking up her book and taking the Workplace Tension Assessment mentioned during the interview. In Chapter 6 of Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Dr. Joe Dispenza introduces a powerful framework for understanding how we transform thoughts into reality through the interplay of three different brains: the thinking brain (neocortex), the doing brain (limbic system), and the being brain (cerebellum). Together, these three brains explain why change often feels difficult and how you can bridge the gap between what you know and what you embody. This chapter reveals that true transformation isn't just about thinking differently—it's about consistently aligning your thoughts, emotions, and actions until your desired reality becomes second nature. By mastering this process, you can evolve from simply knowing what to do to living as the person you aspire to be. Let's explore the key insights from this chapter, along with actionable steps to help you leverage your three brains and achieve lasting transformation. https://drjoedispenza.com/shop/categories?shopSection=Books If you like today's message, here are four ways I can help you grow faster… 5. In Chapter 5 of Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Dr. Joe Dispenza highlights a critical distinction that defines how we approach life: the difference between survival and creation. For many of us, life feels like a constant struggle to stay ahead—a fight to survive. We operate in a reactive mode, responding to stress, fear, and external circumstances. But survival mode is not where true transformation happens. To create the life we desire, we must shift out of survival mode and into a state of creation. This chapter challenges us to move beyond reactive thinking and tap into the infinite potential of the present moment. By doing so, we can become conscious creators of our reality rather than prisoners of our environment, emotions, and past. Let's unpack the key insights and practical steps from Chapter 5 to help you shift from survival to creation. https://drjoedispenza.com/shop/categories?shopSection=Books If you like today's message, here are four ways I can help you grow faster… 1. In Chapter 4 of Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Dr. Joe Dispenza addresses one of the most pervasive barriers to personal transformation: our relationship with time. Most people live their lives trapped in the past, driven by memories and habits, or projecting into the future, consumed by worries and expectations. This creates a perpetual loop of familiar emotions and predictable outcomes. The good news? You can overcome time by learning to live fully in the present moment. Dr. Dispenza explains that when you break free from the mental constraints of past and future, you unlock the power to reshape your reality. Living in the present moment isn't just a philosophical concept; it's a practical skill that enables true transformation. Let's explore the key lessons from Chapter 4 and practical steps you can take to overcome time and create the life you desire. https://drjoedispenza.com/shop/categories?shopSection=Books If you like today's message, here are four ways I can help you grow faster… 1. If you are a speaker, coach, or consultant frustrated that your business isn't growing fast enough, let's have a friendly 15-minute chat to address the likely reason why: not having a system in place that consistently generates 5-10 new conversations per day with potential new clients. Gallup Certified Strengths Coach When people ask me what I do, I simply say “I help people find or create jobs they like and will be good at.” To me, that means creating a career based on your natural talents and learning to communicate those effectively to people who will hire you. I call that “Creating a Strengths-Based Career.” I've made it my life's mission to support, encourage, and inspire people to live more meaningful lives. That's what makes my life meaningful. I coach early and mid-career professionals seeking a career change and searching for new jobs to understand their natural talents, identify opportunities in the current market to use those talents, and communicate their value effectively to people who can hire them. I meet with clients across the United States by Zoom video. I work with people who have big questions about what's next who want support and guidance to figure it out and then need help to get there. I support job seekers step by step all the way to the finish line. For over 20 years I've done this through my work in higher education as a college career counselor, advisor, and faculty member teaching career and learning strategy courses. I've taught MBA students, first-year undergraduate students, and everything in between. Over the years, I've expanded into private practice to serve career transition and job search clients who want to create a more meaningful life. I also work with workplace teams to become workplaces people don't want to leave. When teams are working from their strengths and have hope for their careers, people are more productive, employees are happier, and even in the midst of “The Great Resignation,” people stay and grow. I've developed a unique way of looking at a career, combining my training in Strengths with my knowledge of Career Development to help all the people I serve to create strengths-based careers. communicatingstrengths.com Bill Storm is a seasoned advisor and consultant renowned for his expertise in driving peak performance and fostering effective leadership within Fortune 500 companies. In Chapter 3 of Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Dr. Joe Dispenza explores a truth many of us grapple with daily: our bodies often seem to control us more than we control them. Whether it's a craving, stress response, or the constant pull of habitual emotions, the body can feel like an unstoppable force keeping us tethered to the past. But here's the empowering news: your body is not the boss—it's your mind that holds the key to change. By understanding how the body and mind are intertwined, and how the body can become addicted to emotional states, you can begin to break free from self-sabotaging patterns. Dr. Dispenza provides us with the tools to overcome this "body-mind" disconnect and regain the power to live intentionally, rather than reactively. Let's dive into the lessons and action steps from Chapter 3 to help you move beyond your body's programming and into the driver's seat of your life. https://drjoedispenza.com/shop/categories?shopSection=Books If you like today's message, here are four ways I can help you grow faster… 1. As leaders, we've all been there, thrust into a position of responsibility with little to no training yet expected to lead teams, solve problems, and deliver results. In my recent conversation with Daniel Pennington, an international keynote speaker, speaking coach, and master storyteller, we explored the ever-changing landscape of leadership and why adapting to it is no longer optional. What stood out to me most was Daniel's point about how the leadership of our parents' or grandparents' era doesn't translate to today's workforce. Back then, leadership was about survival—shared goals and the common good. Fast-forward and positional power became the dominant tool in leadership, often leaving teams disengaged and unmotivated. Let's take a closer look at some actionable steps we can all take to lead with intention and purpose. If you like today's message, here are four ways I can help you grow faster… 1. Speak at your next event. 2. Conduct a full or half-day leadership training workshop. 3. VIP Client: Personal and professional 1:1 coaching. 4. Unlock the proven system I use to elevate my brand and business on LinkedIn, inspired by my collaboration with Tony Robbins. I specialize in mentoring speakers, coaches, and consultants frustrated that their businesses aren't growing fast enough. https://www.billstorm.com/ About Daniel Pennington For decades, leaders have leaned on Positional Power—the “Do it because I said so” approach—to drive results. But today's dynamic work environment, especially post-COVID, has dramatically shifted the rules. This old model no longer resonates or motivates as it once did. To truly inspire and engage teams, leaders must embrace the tools of influence and persuasion. The facts tell the story: with U.S. unemployment at just 4.1%, nearly everyone who wants a job already has one. Unlike in times past when replacing a challenging employee was easy, today, every team member is valuable. Effective leadership has become more complex and demands fresh skills—empathy, adaptability, insight, and, most importantly, influence. Daniel's powerful keynote, “What Got Us Here Isn't Going to Get Us There,” draws on compelling research from Gallup and Harvard, showing that an influence-based approach isn't just a “nice to have” but a critical shift for sustainable success. His framework equips leaders to move from command-based authority to influence-driven leadership, fostering intrinsic motivation that drives long-lasting results. Embracing this model is more than an adaptation; it's a transformation that empowers teams and builds a foundation for enduring success. https://www.linkedin.com/in/danielspennington/ Bill Storm is a seasoned advisor and consultant renowned for his expertise in driving peak performance and fostering effective leadership within Fortune 500 companies. In Chapter 2 of Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Dr. Joe Dispenza challenges us to rethink how much of our lives are dictated by external circumstances. From the people we interact with to the routines we follow, our environment often shapes our thoughts, emotions, and, ultimately, our identity. But here's the empowering truth: you don't have to let your environment define you. Dr. Dispenza teaches that overcoming your environment isn't about rejecting your external world—it's about taking control of your internal one. When you learn to break free from the subconscious patterns tied to your surroundings, you can start designing a life aligned with your goals, dreams, and potential. https://drjoedispenza.com/shop/categories?shopSection=Books If you like today's message, here are four ways I can help you grow faster… 1. When I sat down to host Jim Fielding on the Lessons in Leadership Podcast, I expected wisdom from his 30-plus years of leading brands like Disney Stores, Gap, Claire's, DreamWorks, and 20th Century Fox. What I didn't anticipate was the profound resonance of his personal reinvention story—a story of courage, fear, and transformation that speaks to leaders at every stage of their journey. Jim's career shift began in 2019 when he was unexpectedly laid off after 30 years of senior leadership roles. For the first time, Jim wasn't the one leading a reorganization—he was its subject. What followed was a deliberate, reflective six-month sabbatical that evolved into an entirely new chapter: becoming an author, speaker, and executive coach. As he shared his story, I found myself revisiting questions that many leaders face: Am I maximizing my potential? Am I truly living in alignment with my values and gifts? Starting my career on the department store floor sparked my love of face-to-face interaction. This led to 30+ years in senior executive roles with some of the world's most iconic retail and media brands, including Gap, Disney Stores, Claire's, Dreamworks and 20th Century Fox. Decades of developing talent and building inclusive cultures reinforced that team members perform at their highest level when they're able to bring their whole, true selves to work. These days, my full-time focus is sharing what I've learned. Through speaking engagements, coaching, writing, advocacy and community building, I want to encourage leaders and organizations to create spaces where everyone feels safe and inspired to be and do their best. https://www.hijimfielding.com/ Bill Storm is a seasoned advisor and consultant renowned for his expertise in driving peak performance and fostering effective leadership within Fortune 500 companies. Leadership has always been a topic close to my heart, and I recently had the privilege of hosting Dr. Martin Kettelhut on the Lessons in Leadership podcast. Dr. Kettelhut, a thought leader and author of Leadership as Relation: The Art and Science of Heart-Led Leadership, brought refreshing perspectives on what it means to lead in today's ever-evolving workplace culture. I specialize in mentoring coaches, and consultants frustrated that their businesses aren't growing fast enough. https://www.billstorm.com/ About Dr. Martin Kettelhut Dr. Martin Kettelhut's coaching business, Listening Is the Key, was born out of a desire to incorporate his PhD in philosophy with modern-day coaching. After moving to New York City, “Doc” co-founded and became the Head Coach for The Center of Excellence, a communications consulting firm. There, he doubled revenue and tripled the company size, resulting in scalable growth. Dr. Kettelhut has coached top producers in financial services, venture capital executives, leading technology entrepreneurs, medical experts, administrators of higher education, and many others to successfully produce results they thought were impossible. Doc is based in Colorado and Costa Rica and enjoys hiking, swimming, playing the piano, and living his life on purpose. https://listeningisthekey.com Bill Storm is a seasoned advisor and consultant renowned for his expertise in driving peak performance and fostering effective leadership within Fortune 500 companies.
