What happens when a health extension worker in rural Ethiopia faces a complex case and there's no doctor nearby? This episode goes beyond the AI hype cycle to explore a live, working answer: HEP Assist, a generative AI-powered call center built for Ethiopia's 40,000 health extension workers by Last Mile Health, IDinsight, and the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.Abraham Zerihun, Ethiopia Country Director at Last Mile Health, and Sid Ravinutala, Chief Data Scientist at ID Insight, take us inside the real decisions — from choosing a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architecture to stay within Ministry guidelines and reduce hallucinations, to creating a virtual assistant named Hawa to make interactions feel human rather than machine. They discuss the surprisingly nuanced cost model for AI at scale, the importance of government buy-in, and why evaluation should be built in from day one, not treated as an afterthought. With 6,500+ AI-supported consultations already completed and 53% of cases resolved at the community level, this isn't a pilot on paper — it's proof that AI can work at the last mile, in local languages, on high-stakes problems, right now.Related Resources:Last Mile Health – An organization dedicated to saving lives in the world's most remote communities, by partnering with governments to equip professional community health workers.IDinsight – A global advisory, data analytics, and research organization that helps leaders maximize their social impact. The Ethiopian Ministry of Health – The government body leading the digital transformation and AI integration within Ethiopia's national health system.Data.org – A platform for partnerships to build the field of data science for social impact, which provided support for this initiative.Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) – A global health organization mentioned as a previous professional home for both guestsSign up to our newsletter, and stay informed of Dimagi's workWe are on social media - follow us for the latest from Dimagi: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YoutubeIf you enjoy this show, please leave us a 5-Star Review and share your favorite episodes with friends. Today, we finally break down one of the most overlooked parts of UA strategy - playable ads.https://lancaric.substack.com/p/playable-ads-trends-in-mobile-games-b16?r=7qqafAnd the truth is…
Imagine a country of 50 million people with only 50 psychiatrists. This staggering treatment gap is the reality in Uganda, but Pavel Reppo is proving that specialized experts aren't the only ones who can provide life-changing care. As the Executive Director of Finemind and CEO of Matchbox Fund, Pavel brings a rare dual perspective to the conversation, bridging the worlds of grassroots mental health implementation and trust-based philanthropy. In this episode, we dive into how Finemind upskills primary health workers—such as midwives and nurses—to deliver evidence-based mental health support at the point of care. Pavel explains why true impact must be measured by functional recovery—like children returning to school or improved household food security—rather than just clinical depression scores. We also explore the Matchbox Fund's mission to rewrite the rules of funding by investing in overlooked local organizations and responding to outreach with dignity. This conversation offers a masterclass in ethical leadership, local ownership, and a radical definition of success: scale as the "reduction of the problem," not just the growth of an organization.Related Resources:High-Impact Growth episode featuring Vikram Patel - https://sites.dimagi.com/high-impact-growth-podcast/reimagining-mental-health High-Impact Growth episode featuring Kevin Starr - https://dimagi.com/podcast/funders-power-to-change-the-system/ Finemind - https://afinemind.org/about/Matchboxfund - https://matchboxfund.org/Sangath - https://www.sangath.in/ Spring Impact - https://www.springimpact.org/ A WHO-developed psychological intervention for people in communities affected by adversity - https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789241506816 Sign up to our newsletter, and stay informed of Dimagi's workWe are on social media - follow us for the latest from Dimagi: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YoutubeIf you enjoy this show, please leave us a 5-Star Review and share your favorite episodes with friends. After decades of failed negotiations and a rapidly shifting reality on the ground, is it time to rethink the framework for peace? In this episode, we're joined by Professor Yossi Mekelberg (Chatham House, University of Roehampton) to explore the idea of an Israeli–Palestinian confederation — a model that seeks to reconcile the increasingly entrenched one-state reality with the enduring need for two states.Drawing on decades of research and policy engagement, Yossi examines why past peace efforts have stalled, what has changed since Oslo, and whether a new political structure could offer a more realistic path forward. In this episode, we explore:Why the traditional two-state model is becoming harder to implementThe “one-state reality” on the ground — and what it means in practiceWhat an Israeli–Palestinian confederation could look likeHow shared governance, open borders and joint institutions might functionThe role of settlements, refugees, and Jerusalem in any future agreementWhy trust, reconciliation and public buy-in are essential to any solutionWhether political leadership — on either side — is capable of delivering change Key takeawaysThe status quo is unsustainable: The current trajectory is worsening conditions on the ground and making traditional solutions harder to achieve.A confederation bridges realities: It attempts to combine two-state principles with the lived reality of deep territorial and demographic entanglement.Reciprocity is key: Any viable solution must balance rights — including for settlers and refugees — in a way both sides can accept.Peace is not just technical: Political agreements alone are not enough — rebuilding trust and humanising the “other” is essential.Leadership matters — but so do people: Change may depend as much on public pressure and shifting narratives as on formal negotiations.

We are closing out the crystal portion of our Victorian Spiritualism series with a stone that quite literally contains a ghost.Phantom Quartz is a crystal that remembers who it used to be. Formed when growth pauses for thousands of years and then resumes, it preserves an earlier version of itself inside its present structure — a visible “phantom” suspended within the stone. In this episode, we explore:What Phantom Quartz is and how it formsWhy it's often called nature's version of Victorian spirit photographyThe metaphor of interrupted growth and layered evolutionHow this stone supports shadow work and inner child healingQuestions to ask when your growth has felt pausedReincarnation and soul groups — explained simply and accessiblyThe connection between Phantom Quartz, Akashic Records, and soul memoryPsychic and magical uses including meditation, clairaudience, astral travel, and dream workWe also discuss how Victorian Spiritualism sought proof that something survives beyond death — and how Phantom Quartz invites us to remember the parts of ourselves that never truly died.Rather than summoning spirits outwardly, this stone encourages inward remembrance.✨ Simple Practice: The Growth Pause RitualSit with your Phantom Quartz and light a candle.Hold the stone to your heart.Ask:Where did my growth pause? What version of me is preserved inside?Visualize the inner phantom glowing.Journal:What lesson have I survived? What part of me needs integration?Where am I still becoming?Optional: Write a Victorian-style letter to your “phantom self” — honoring the version of you that carried you here.Phantom Quartz reminds us:Growth is not linear. As traditional funding sources shift, many nonprofits are asking a hard question: can individual giving become a meaningful and sustainable revenue stream? In this episode of High-Impact Growth, Amie Vaccaro and Jonathan Jackson sit down with Javan Van Gronigen, founder of Donate.ly, to unpack what it truly takes to make that transition work.Drawing from more than a decade in digital fundraising, Javan shares why storytelling—not technology—is the most critical asset nonprofits have, and why so many organizations struggle by committing “random acts of marketing.” The conversation explores how to move from one-to-one fundraising toward scalable, one-to-many models without burning limited budgets, and how testing small bets is essential before going all-in.The group also digs into the evolving role of AI in fundraising—from speeding up content creation and data analysis to raising new ethical questions about authenticity and trust. Whether you're testing individual giving for the first time or rethinking your entire fundraising strategy, this episode offers a grounded, honest roadmap for navigating a more crowded and uncertain funding landscape.Related Resources:https://www.fiftyandfifty.org/services/engagement-os https://www.donately.com/https://www.charitywater.org/https://invisiblechildren.com/ Sign up to our newsletter, and stay informed of Dimagi's workWe are on social media - follow us for the latest from Dimagi: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YoutubeIf you enjoy this show, please leave us a 5-Star Review and share your favorite episodes with friends. AI is moving fast in global health and development, but good intentions alone don't guarantee good outcomes. In this episode of High-Impact Growth, we sit down with Genevieve Smith, Founding Director of the Responsible AI Initiative at UC Berkeley's AI Research Lab, to unpack what it really means to build and deploy AI responsibly in contexts that matter most.Drawing on a decade of experience in international development and cutting-edge research on AI bias, Genevieve explains why labeling a project “AI for good” isn't enough. She introduces five critical lenses – fairness, privacy, security, transparency, and accountability – that program managers and product leaders must apply to avoid reinforcing existing inequalities or creating new risks. The conversation explores real-world examples, from AI-driven credit assessments that unintentionally disadvantage women, to the challenges of deploying generative AI in low-resource and multilingual settings. Genevieve also shares emerging alternatives, like data cooperatives, that give communities governance over how their data is used, shifting power toward trust, agency, and long-term impact. This episode offers practical insights for anyone navigating the hype, pressure, and promise of AI in development, and looking to get it right.Responsible AI Initiative – UC Berkeley AI Research Lab – A multidisciplinary initiative advancing research and practice around responsible, trustworthy AI.Mitigating Bias in Artificial Intelligence - A playbook for business leaders who build & use AI to unlock value responsibly & equitablyUC Berkeley AI Research (BAIR) – A leading AI research lab focused on advancing the science and real-world impact of artificial intelligence.Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (FAccT) Conference – A major interdisciplinary conference on ethical and responsible AI systems.UN Women – An organization referenced in Genevieve's background, focused on gender equality and women's empowerment globally.International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) – A research organization mentioned in the episode, specializing in gender, equity, and inclusive development.Sign up to our newsletter, and stay informed of Dimagi's workWe are on social media - follow us for the latest from Dimagi: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YoutubeIf you enjoy this show, please leave us a 5-Star Review and share your favorite episodes with friends. You've spent years developing your next generation of partners, but what happens when they don't want to lead, can't secure financing, or simply aren't the right fit to take over? In this episode, our Ontario Market Leader Darryl Boyd, reveals why so many multi-partner firms are discovering that their "default" internal succession plan isn't working, and why external sales often deliver better outcomes for everyone involved.Over his decade with Poe Group Advisors, Darryl has helped the Canadian M&A landscape transform from earnout-heavy transactions to all-cash deals that prioritize fit over spreadsheets. We explore the uncomfortable truth about internal succession: technical excellence doesn't equal business leadership, and the partner who's great at client work may have zero interest or aptitude for running the firm. The conversation highlights that:Why exhausted accounting firm owners often just need better systems, not an exit strategyHow private equity is slowly earning trust in Canada, and why most CPA firm sellers still choose CPA buyersThe hidden assumptions killing Accounting M&A deals (like the "25% client loss" myth with zero data behind it)Why the best transactions happen when both parties forget about price and focus on whether the handoff will actually workWe also tackle the massive variability across firms that makes a cookie-cutter valuation worthless: profitability, owner workload, geographic markets, and cultural dynamics all impact valuation more than sellers realize. Whether you're a multi-partner firm wrestling with succession, a solo tax practitioner planning your exit, or a buyer trying to understand what sellers really care about, this episode will challenge your assumptions about how accounting practice transitions actually work.Link to full listing: https://poegroupadvisors.com/practice/sc2038/ Firm Highlights:- Young, energetic owner committed to staying 10+ years to run and grow the firm.- Selling 70–100% equity, with plans to offer key employees an ownership stake.- 3+ CPAs on staff and over 20 employees.- High-net-worth clients with strong loyalty and consistent referrals.- 78% of services tied to business clients.
TL;DRAI literacy is becoming a baseline skill. This episode explores how organizations and individuals are actually building AI capability at work, with a focus on:* Self-directed learning and AI education at scale* Personalized learning journeys versus one-size-fits-all training* The shift from basic AI use to agentic workflows* The role of human strengths—creativity, judgment, and adaptability—in an AI-driven workplaceIn this episode, I'm joined by Erica Salm Rench, an AI educator and leader at Sidecar AI.Sidecar is an AI education platform and learning management system (LMS) designed to help organizations educate their employees on AI through self-directed learning. It combines structured courses, role-based learning paths, and hands-on use cases so individuals can build AI capability at their own pace while organizations raise overall AI fluency. Our conversation explores what AI education actually looks like beyond hype—how people are learning it, how organizations are rolling it out, and why understanding AI is quickly becoming a career differentiator rather than a technical specialty.AI Education Has Shifted from “What Is It?” to “How Do I Use It?”Erica explains that the conversation around AI in associations has changed dramatically over the last several years. Early on, organizations were hesitant to even talk about AI. Today, the question is no longer what is AI? but how can we use it to advance our mission, improve operations, and better serve our members? That shift brings a new challenge: helping people move from curiosity to competence in a way that feels approachable rather than overwhelming.Meeting People Where They AreOne of the strongest themes in our discussion is the importance of meeting learners at their current level of comfort and knowledge. AI education isn't one-size-fits-all.This means combining:* Foundational AI concepts* Role-specific applications (marketing, events, operations)* A growing library of real-world use cases* Ongoing updates as tools evolveThe goal isn't to turn everyone into a AI engineer—it's to help people understand what's possible and apply AI meaningfully in their day-to-day work. From Prompting to Agentic WorkWe spend time talking about the evolution from simple AI use cases—like writing emails or summarizing content—to agentic AI, where systems take action on a user's behalf. This shift matters because it fundamentally changes how work gets done. Instead of just assisting with tasks, AI begins to:* Automate multi-step workflows* Scale work that previously required human labor* Act as a force multiplier rather than a one-off toolWe agree that while much of this is still clunky today, the direction is clear: agents are becoming a core part of how work will be organized.Personalized Learning Is the Future of EducationA major insight from the episode is that personalized learning journeys will define the next phase of education—especially in fast-moving domains like AI.Erica describes how Sidecar uses AI within its learning environment to:* Act as a learning assistant* Answer questions in real time* Reinforce concepts* Help learners connect theory to applicationThis mirrors a broader trend: education becoming less about static courses and more about continuous, adaptive support. The Psychology of Learning AI at WorkWe talk openly about fear—fear of job loss, fear of falling behind, fear of not being “technical enough.” Erica makes the case that leaders have a responsibility to educate their teams, not just for organizational performance, but for people's long-term career resilience. From a psychological perspective, AI education:* Reduces anxiety by replacing uncertainty with understanding* Increases confidence and autonomy* Helps people see AI as a collaborator, not a threatSpending even 20–30 minutes a day learning AI can quickly change how people see their own future at work.Human Strengths Still Matter More Than EverOne of my favorite parts of the conversation is where we zoom out to the human side of all this. As AI removes technical barriers, the differentiator becomes human qualities—creativity, resilience, judgment, adaptability, and the ability to ask good questions.AI doesn't replace these traits. It amplifies them.Used well, AI allows people to overcome past limitations, work around weaknesses, and bring their ideas to life faster than ever before. What Listeners Should Take AwayAI literacy is becoming a baseline skill. The people who thrive won't be the most technical, but the most curious, adaptable, and intentional about learning how to work alongside intelligent systems.Education—done thoughtfully and continuously—is the bridge between fear and opportunity.Where to Find EricaErica is highly active on LinkedIn and can be found through Sidecar AI, where she and her team are building education-first pathways into AI for associations, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations. Stella shares powerful insights from the field—how cash empowers recipients with dignity, choice, and long-term impact. We also discuss the skepticism surrounding cash transfers, the evidence supporting their effectiveness, and how technology is helping reach those most in need. With global development funding in flux, could direct cash transfers be the future of aid? Forget the headlines predicting a “workerless workforce.” In this episode, host Bill Banham sits down with longtime cloud and SaaS analyst Phil Wainwright to cut through the hype and examine what AI agents really mean for HR, business leaders, and the people doing the work.Phil argues that automation can be transformative—but calling software a “workforce” conceals the real challenges organisations face: governance, transparency, accountability, and change management. Together, we explore where AI agents will take hold first—help desks, admin-heavy workflows, repetitive processes—and why this shift places HR in a more strategic, cross-functional role.Listeners will get practical guidance on:How to encode policy, ethics, and organisational values into systems so AI operates safelySpecific risks in AI-driven recruiting and performance processes, from hidden bias to opaque decision pathsThe documentation, access rules, and audit trails needed to build trustHow skills-based talent frameworks are reshaping hiring, development, and mobilityWhy adaptability, empathy, creativity, and problem solving are emerging as the defining skills of modern workWe also dig into early-career disruption, the evolution of knowledge work, and the rise of modular teams blending AI, contractors, and full-time staff—without dumping everyone into the gig economy. If you're leading HR or building teams, this episode offers a grounded roadmap for responsible AI adoption and resilient workforce design.Support the showFeature Your Brand on the HRchat PodcastThe HRchat show has had 100,000s of downloads and is frequently listed as one of the most popular global podcasts for HR pros, Talent execs and leaders. Since our last conversation, technology has made staggering leaps, but the global health sector has also been rocked by funding cuts, creating massive tension between potential and reality.Brian shares why AI accelerates human intention but can never replace critical thinking. And we dig into Dimagi's research on hidden bias in frontier models and AI's performance in low resource languages. In early 2025, massive funding cuts from USAID sent shockwaves through the global development sector, leaving many to wonder what would come next. The money was gone, but the problems remained. In this follow-up conversation, Dimagi Managing Directors Gillian Javetski and Ismaïla Diene rejoin the podcast to discuss the aftermath and the unexpected "diamonds" created from the pressure. They share how the crisis forced a pivot from large, custom-built projects to a new model centered on radical simplicity, focus, and affordability. This candid discussion explores the divergence happening among digital public goods, the necessity of sustainable business models, and why the most important question is no longer "what new feature can we build?" but "can we make the existing value radically cheaper?". Have you quit praying? Think about the last week: What happened when you saw that last horrible news article, or video on SM, or had someone at work tell you about another heart-rending tragedy. What did you do? If you're anything like me, you didn't pray. You might've shrugged, or cried a little, or made a snarky remark (also more like me than the other two)--but if you're like me, you didn't pray. Our lack of prayer shows we are forgetting just who it is we serve. We serve a God who is:A good fatherCreator God of everythingCalling us to kingdom workWe pray to see His will be done and His kingdom come. Let us not give up in doing what is good, but instead to pray without ceasing, even if it means we pray about our lack of desire to pray.Show Notes: https://bit.ly/4pS7m8R

Being present is easy to say but hard to implement. As men, we love to solve problems and get things done. This often causes us to be somewhere else in our heads when we are with people, which can damage our relationships and our work abilities. If we are somewhere else in our brains, we will often miss things in the moment.Being present is a skill we can practice and improve. It's not something that is only for those who have that ability. We can all practice it and improve at it.When we become more present, we can have better relationships and be more successful in all our endeavors.Process Your PastThe past is a reality in our livesGood or bad, we must deal with events of our past or they will affect the presentNo matter the past that happened to us, we can't let it affect the present in a negative wayBad past events - we relive or live out in an unhealthy responseGood past events - We live in the past and don't recognize todayWe must learn how to process our past and then live in todayFocus on the NowLiving today takes focus and workWe have to decide to live in the presentBe still and know that I am GodThis is a reality many don't get cause they don't slow down to let God speak to themAim Towards The FutureWe miss the present when we are so focused on the futureGoals and growth are great and you should pursue them, but their purpose is to align our presentWe should not be so focused on the future that we sacrifice the presentThe habits of our lives in the present should feed the goals of the futureGoals are there to motivate our present decisionsCHALLENGE:Knowing your values helps you live in the presentGet our free Values Start-up Kit to help you begin your journey of thrivingRESOURCES TO HELP YOU THRIVE AS A MAN========================Thriving Man Coaching Resources4D MODEL FREE PDFLearn about the 4 fundamentals of a Successful LifeDiscover OUR SPEAKING AND HOW WE HAVE EMPOWERED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ACROSS THE WORLD

When Toku McCree first learned his purpose, he wondered where it had come from and who had said it—even though he was alone with his thoughts when it came to him.He describes in this episode of The Coach's Journey Podcast how that particular thought, when it arrived, felt “untouchable” and instilled in him the purpose that now guides him through his life and work.Toku spent more than two-and-a-half years living in a monastery, and insights from his former life as a Zen monk permeate his writing, his creativity and his work as a renowned executive coach. In this episode we dive into Toku's forthcoming book (you can read three chapters for free here) and he reads aloud sections that offer valuable wisdom on how to allow your coaching style to evolve, how to avoid getting stuck in a rut, and how to invite clients to take the first step when they arrive at coaching with trepidation. If you are struggling with your work or with finding your purpose, this episode explores ways to make that struggle meaningful and guide you forwards towards satisfaction. In this episode, we also talk about:Finding your creative voice and how to think about the body of work you're creatingBringing reverence to your work and finding satisfaction beyond the hustleKnowing when to challenge and when to encourage our clientsThe six areas of mastery Toku focuses on in his writing and his coach trainingHow to view your coaching as art and how that can guide you to do your best workWe also zoom in on how to accept the times when our work is not our best, and even explore the value in being willing to do bad work!To learn more about me, visit https://www.robbieswale.com/, and to learn more about Toku, visit http://unexecutive.com/.Read three chapters of Toku's forthcoming book here: https://coachingmba.co/journey-zenandcoaching For information about my wider work, my writing or to buy my books, visit www.robbieswale.com.Music by My Good Man William: listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4KmeQUcTbeE31uFynHQLQgTo support the Coach's Journey, visit www.patreon.com/thecoachsjourney and to join the Coach's Journey Community visit www.thecoachsjourney.com/community. Ep #179: The Corporate Badass Way of Setting Boundaries at WorkWe've all had those frustrating moments in our lives where we thought: “If I could just get better at setting boundaries, everything would be so much easier!” But here's the truth: You are so much better at setting boundaries than you think you are. But thinking you're terrible at setting boundaries is just one of the ways that you're holding yourself back from setting the kind of boundaries that will help you reach your next level of leadership. So in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I'll share everything I have learned about boundaries over the years and how YOU can set the kind of boundaries that will help you reach and thrive at the executive level.Join us inside my group coaching intensive, Executive Ahead of Time.
How important is it for you to feel valued, to feel that the person before you, no matter their role, sees you as equal? What would it look like if we valued others regardless of their position, regardless of our position, regardless of what they know but rather by how they interacted with humanity?Today I want to introduce you to Sebastian, Sebastian is a man that has taken his love for nature and humanity and brought them together in how he runs his restaurant, how he pours his heart into what he shares from his kitchen, and how he is present with those in front of himHe shares with me how he and his partner value the environment they work in and the people that are a part of that family, how they heart in those people matters over the knowledge they may have, and why the key to success is to preserve humility and respect, and to treat others as equal; that no one is lower than you in life or in workWe talk about the importance in sitting with a place and its people, why its important to enjoy life in its entirety, to focus on its joys often, and to not wait for something specificHe shares how his time out of Bolivia gave him perspective and in so many ways validated what he knows, and in other ways gave him gratitude for what is present in his lifeSebastian is not unlike many others I met in Bolivia in his warmth, he is a man with a kind smile almost always about his face, eyes that seek to see and know who stands before him, and a heart focused on the ways he can give of who he is to those he loves and those in his lifeSo tune today and meet Sebastian, one that I admire for his courage to share who he is with someone he barely knows, someone who does not fear sharing his heart, someone who is willing to push himself beyond what may be easy to connect and share what life has taught him with humility and love in a way I am honored to share with youAnd to you Sebastian thank you, thank you for your willingness to be so patient with my flawed Spanish, for your graciousness in welcoming me into your home at Ancestral and the way your heart pours so beautifully into the food you shared with me. It was an honor to be welcomed and I look forward to seeing you again my friend @sebasancestral

Get your free Personal Reboot Guide at www.theconfidentman.meCheck out more resources to help you as a man at David Maxwell CoachingThe design of men is a powerful one. Men can fight wars, invent new things, and run major corporations, but also play in the playground with their kids all day. Men have a natural play instinct which is important for the development of them and their children. The problem is without proper development many men get stuck in the playing mentality and never grow up. Maturity is not the lack of play or fun, but knowing when it is appropriate and when it isn't. So we are going to look at some of the main reasons men aren't growing up so we can recognize the problems and work to overcome them. Lack of ExamplesSome men have never grown up because they never saw what a grown man was supposed to act likeA lot of guys have grown up in confusing timesThis beat down of masculinity has left a lot of men confused and now many of these men are the dads todayThe other serious problem is the lack of dads and role models of what a man is all aboutMany men are wandering around not knowing where to go as a manMany boys didn't have an example so they are trying to figure it out as they goFor young men who realize this need, they have to put in extra workLack of IngredientsMany men have not grown up because there has been a lack of ingredients in their lifeA number of men had some things happen when they were young that stunted their emotional growthDivorce is a reality many men dealt with in their lives as childrenOne of the hardest things for boys to overcome is the addictive nature of pornThe statistics for boys who have been sexually abused have been increasing over the yearsBullying is another emotional growth event that many people don't think ofTraumatic events do affect us when we were kids and we need to make sure they aren't affecting our life today by keeping important ingredients out of our everydayMany men have a void of insecurity that they are trying to fill that comes from their childhoodLack of ChallengeA lot of men were hamstrung as they grew up because many things were done for them and they were never challengedI don't think parents did this on purpose but they were so focused on the protection that they stunted their child's growthNow this doesn't mean parents can teach everythingMany men today are grown men who grew up with no responsibilities so they didn't learn how to be responsibleMany of these men were shielded from consequences so they don't have a full understanding of what consequences are or how they workWe can't hide boys from challenges

Check out more resources to help you as a man at David Maxwell CoachingAs men, we need work. Work is not just something we do each day. Work is something we were created for. Work is essential for men because it is a big part of their development as men. Our gifts and abilities are fine-tuned and built up through work. Work is honorable and we need to be careful that society's attack on work doesn't affect us as men. When we stop working, it isn't good for us as men. Work is something we were designed for and work makes us better men. Work is noble! We must embrace work and let it help us develop our full potential as men. 1- Created for WorkMen love workWe were made for itThe origin of workWe connect with the creativity in work Embrace your natural desire for work as a man2 - Work and FlowOne of the reasons men love work is because it gives them something to focus onA man's ability to be singularly focused is one of the most powerful aspects of our manhoodThis makes us different from women and that is why we complement each otherFlow is the ability of men to give themselves over to the job they are doing Men love flow because of the synergyMen were created for flow3 - Work's SatisfactionOne of the most interesting parts of work is the satisfaction it brings us as menA job done well is important to us and our mentality as menThis is important because that sense of satisfaction is part of our drive as menWhen men stop working and stop caring about work, they usually start down a road of destructionAs our society has sought ways to replace the working man, men have been devastatedMen without work and the satisfaction of work are often lost in life

Consequences. Punishments. Limits. Boundaries. These words don't mean the same thing but we often use them interchangeably. In this episode, we get clear on what exactly is a consequence versus a punishment versus a boundary. And how parenting through the lens of regulation, connection, and felt-safety is absolutely not boundary-less or permissive parenting. It's a way of looking at our kids and asking "What does my child need to be successful?" and then giving them that.It definitely isn't about making sure our kids are always happy or never frustrated or we always say yes. It's about changing the lens on how we view their expressions of emotions and behaviors. And yes- it's about setting boundaries that keep our kids safe and help their brains develop the internalized co-regulation (self-regulation!) they need!In this episode, I reference a LOT of other episodes.Has Trauma Informed Become a Behavior Modification Technique? What's Regulation Got to do With itFocus on Arousal not BehaviorConnection can't not workWe are Always Searching and Yearning for ConnectionFelt Safety- what's that?Connection or ProtectionWhat Behavior Really Is- free video series masterclassParenting after Trauma: Minding the Heart and Brain- online digital courseThis episode is a replay of an episode that originally aired on October 19, 2021.*********The Club is FINALLY open for new members!
