When we serve others, we reflect the heart of Jesus.Opening Question:Who's the most generous person you've ever met—not with money, but with their presence, their time, their service?Examples:Ken - oversees benevolence, goes over the topMike and Emma - in their 80's, pulling weeds at the churchClean team members - washing toilets for JesusSome leadership philosophies say, ‘Don't get your hands dirty—delegate the dirty work.'From The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli: Power and control define leadership. Servanthood is seen as weakness. So some have concluded that servants should stay at the lower levelsAnd executives should rise to the top and STOP servingIt doesn't help the organization for them to get their hands dirtyBut Jesus didn't climb some ladder and retreat from people. He stepped down from heaven. He picked up a towel. He washed feet. He gave his life. That's generosity that gets its hands dirty. And that's the kind of generosity Jesus calls us to.Series Recap:Generosity is giving to others through a selfless act without expecting anything in return. Week 1: The Generosity of GodHe gives love, provision, guidance—overflowing. Our generosity starts as a response to His generosity.Week 2: Generous in GivingFinancial generosity matters—it reflects the heart. But it's not the whole picture. If we think generosity only happens when we write a check, we miss the life Jesus is calling us to.Today's focus: Generosity that takes action. That sees needs and serves. This is about serving others with the heart of Jesus.Jesus Modeled Generous ServanthoodMatthew 20:25-28 25 But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. 28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”The disciples were arguing about status. Jesus reframed it.“Whoever wants to be great must be a servant.”Jesus didn't just talk about service—he...
Some say,"I don't hear Him. Maybe He doesn't talk to me."But before the written Word was written,It was spoken, then written for it to be spoken.God speaks to everyone, and primarily through his Word. His word is alive, and active. His word brings light and understand. His word is his voiceJoshua 1:8 says,"Meditate on this Word day and night."Not just to know it— but to live it.Because hearing God is not a one-time moment. It's a lifestyle. A frequency. A tuning in.Then the writing word is actually the reason why we can hear GodHe is not silent. He is not distant. He is not withholding His voice from you.We should be open to the leading of the SpiritBut doubt is the static.Logic the interference.Fear—the volume knob that turns His whisper down to noise and confusion. And sometimes, we want to sound logical. We want to sound wise.We don't want to seem too spiritual,So we trade revelation for reasoning. But the things of the SpiritAre spiritually discerned.God is not confined to human logic. And we are not called to be logical, but Spiritual. For God is SpiritSo why do we try to fit Him inside our minds?God's leading is not complicated. His voice is not an unsolvable puzzle. It is simple. It is clear.Psalms 32:8 says,"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;I will guide you with My eye."So when He speaks, we don't just hear—We follow. We obey.We trust. And when He is silent? We stay still, we stay close, we wait.Because I hear God.Say it with me:I hear God.I hear Him in simplicity.I hear Him clearly. He is not distant. He is not withdrawn. He is speaking— now.I hear God.I understand Him.I understand Him by His Spirit. And I will listen.I will follow.I will trust.I will believe.Because He still speaks today. And I was created to hear Him.
We can tell what you value or tell what your treasure is by where your heart isThere are things you do that we can tell what you priorities are- We can tell what you worship by what you give your life to, what you give your all for- There are 3 things present in the expression of worship1. Reverence: as a child of God, having a sense of reverence is important. Nothing should be revered over GodA deep sense of respect for God2. Devotion: a deep sense of love and loyalty in the place of worship. Worship is seen is what you're devoted to3. Value: is a sense of importance for the object of worship.. you can't value anything else more than him.For worship to be complete, these 3 need to be present- You don't just worship God because they said you should, but because you see the importance of it.- The devil has very smart tactics to deceive you, showing you that you can achieve what you want without GodHe's very subtle about it- Whenever the devil tempts us he places you at the centre of it, to magnify yourself over GodHe doesn't put himself against God, he puts you against God- Pride is to exalt one's self. It goes beyond a sense of boastfulness, it is a cancer that makes you think you're self-sufficient, makes you think that you're the owner of yourself and your life.- There are 2 ways self will express itself1. Self-sufficiencyThe idea that you are sufficient without God, that you can do it by yourself. That is extremely dangerous. God did not design us to live without him2. Self obsessionA constant ungodly focus on yourselfI'm too small to be the center of my lifeThis is driven by the spirit of Self-sufficiency... this is where both high and low self-esteem come from.Your identity needs to be centered in Christ, because if its centered around anything else, when that thing crumbles who will you be?Focus on God and your low self-esteem will be dealt with, by himWhat other people think about you doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is what God thinks about you

Embracing Your Season: Raising Littles and Understanding Teens with Paige Clingenpeel
Description:*Trigger Warning* This episode mentions sexual abuse and listener discretion is advised. On today's episode of Embracing Your Season, Paige is joined by author Ben Locke. Ben's story is one of deep pain, frustration, and wrestling with God ultimately leading to an unexpected outlet for his suffering. Ben's book, In Our Suffering, Lord Be Near, is a raw, vulnerable, and poetic image of the truth that we will have trouble in this world but that God is with us every step of the way. This episode is a powerful reminder that suffering is part of the fallen world we live in and that when we surrender our pain to God, He will always use it for our good. Paige's Takeaways:Focus on the positives in a season of sufferingGod will always use the pain and the suffering - and He will never abandon usSuffering can lead to blessings, intimacy, and a deeper relationship with the LordDon't always take away adversity or the negative circumstances that our kids are going through - in actuality, it can lead them to more maturity, a deeper relationship with God, and depth of characterSuffering is not linearRemember that in the hardest moments, we are never alone. God is always with us and we have the gift of community.Give yourself graceWhile suffering, lean into GodHe knows what's going on, but when we tell Him how we are actually feeling (frustrated, angry, disappointed) and process it with Him - we realize we are not alone, and He will meet us where we are. I am the righteousness of God In Romans 8:31-34, 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us I am the righteousness of GodI am standing right with God, perfect without blame. Before, only priests were able to enter the Holy of Holies Now, I have the name of Jesus, in whom I have received righteousnessGod dwell in MeI can come boldly before God in the SpiritFor, I am free from judgement of sinI have been reconciled by the blood of Jesus ChristMy righteousness is everlasting I did not do anything to obtain His righteousnessMy righteousness is from GodHe is the qualifierHe gave his righteousness to me freely by not sparing his own sonHe is the one who has justified meI did not make myself to be righteous, as it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one My righteousness comes by faith in Jesus ChristIt is by the Grace of God, through the redemptive work of Christ.I will boast of my righteousness in Christ JesusThen being righteous in the Christian faith is in the faith of Jesus Christ No body can say he or she is righteousness on their own. Nobody can take the achievement of righteousness. The Glory is in Jesus Christ. Romans 3:27 put is this way 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Our righteousness was a gift from God, which we obtained from Jesus's death, burial, and resurrectionRighteousness can only be given and cannot be earned. It can only be granted and not be achieved. It can only be received. Romans 4:25, Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justificationSince, I know I have been justified by faith, I have peace with God through my Lord Jesus Christ. My past, present and future sin cannot take away my righteousnessFor I have a new nature, being called a new creationMy new nature is the same as that of Christ. I am righteous like He isChrist is in me, and I am in himThis is my new norm, and I will hold firmly on it and progress in itEph 4:24, And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.Jesus Christ is my righteousness, when God sees me, He sees Christ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/assumpta-widak/message

My Joy is not circumstantial. Why me God?why now?Why again? May the blessings which are writing in your word are not for me. The question of asking God in a desperate situation why me and why now is something we Christians are familiar with. Our mind is so clouded with everything that is going on around us, forgetting what the word of God says. We allow doubts, depression to settle it, instead of allowing the word of God to dwell in us richly.I have been there many times. I have asked these questions. But one thing I have learned is remind myself of the word of God.Not to the led by my emotions rather the word of God.The word of the lord says in Galatians 5:22 that Joy is an expression of our Spirit. Since we know that we are Spirit beings, we also know that we can express joy despite the situation. For our joy is not circumstantial. It is important we remind ourselves of the nature of GodHe is perfect, all knowing, and doesn't do anything wrong. Just as James said in James 1:17: Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. [a] He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. Our joy is not circumstantial. God is the vein and we are the branches. As long as we remind in him, we will bear much fruits. Outside of him we are nothing. Are joy is from him and hm alone.John 15:11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! Jesus already told us that in this world we will have tribulations and trials. As long as we live, there will always be undesirable situations and trails. Why then worry? Why then allow yourself to be down casted. John 16:33 says: I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart because I have overcome the world.”Jesus is telling us that he has overcome the world. We have to hold God`s words in our heart. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/assumpta-widak/message
Genesis 9:1-7 (NASB) 1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. 2 The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every animal of the earth and on every bird of the sky; on everything that crawls on the ground, and on all the fish of the sea. They are handed over to you. 3 Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I have given everything to you, as I gave the green plant. 4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. 5 I certainly will require your lifeblood; from every animal I will require it. And from every person, from every man as his brother I will require the life of a person. 6 Whoever sheds human blood,By man his blood shall be shed,For in the image of GodHe made mankind.7 As for you, be fruitful and multiply;Populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it.” God blesses mankind with provision and protection in the new world where sin and corruption will soon abound again. God's Blessing: The Creation Mandate (9:1, 7) 1) Provision: Animals given for food (9:2-3) 2) Prohibition: Don't eat the blood (9:4) 3) Protection: Sanctity of human life (9:5-6)

Kevin & Jennie Senapatiratne of Christ Connection came and shared a great message with us this week at Chisholm AG! By looking at the prayer of King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles chapter 20 they pulled out 4 key reminders when it comes to prayer. His prayer started by turning his FOCUS to GodHe appealed to the POWER of GodHe appealed to the PROMISES of GodHe appealed to the WORD of GodBottom Line: All 4 of these reminders tie back to the concept of keeping our eyes fixed on God!

We can not understand the gravity of sin until we understand two things:- The utter helplessness of man- The total sovereignty of GodHe also elucidated on the metaphors for sin in the Bible:- Sin is a debt. Matthew 6:12- Sin is a weight. Genesis 4:13- Sin is a stain. Isaiah 1:18 - The only thing that can give us access to the scroll (eternal life) mentioned in Revelations 5:1-6 is the lamb that was slain and its blood.- When it comes to the devil, our number one defense is the blood because it is what marks us as "touch not"- Our efforts will never be enough. Our only assurance is THE BLOOD!The blood of Jesus is a double payment for our sins!Glory!!

The story of the announcement of the birth of Jesus is breathtaking. Tune in today to make some connections to the past and the future - we are in Section 5 @ https://www.harmonychurch.cc/timeline-of-jesus/birth-preparation/. GIVE TODAY, text any amount to (859) 459-0316 to get started (or give online @ my.harmonychurch.cc/give ). ------------------- OPENING: Years ago I thought Jenni was dying… She had just had surgery about a week earlier and she was not getting better. She was pale and at one point I walked into the bedroom and she was laying on the bed looking like death. I don't know that I've ever been so scared. We immediately called the doctor and got an appointment. We went in and they drew blood to start running tests. Waiting to get the results back was torture - some of you know what that's like. Finally, they called us back in for a consult. I can remember sitting in that room, neither of us talking, both just hoping for anything but the worst… I'll never forget the doctor coming in… She sat down with a serious look on her face. She said, “we got your results back…” My heart stopped beating for a moment Finally, the doctor leaned in and she blurts out, “You're pregnant!” I literally almost fainted… We hadn't even considered the idea that Jenni was pregnant - she had taken a pregnancy test before undergoing the surgery the week before and it was negative. Not only that, but Jen hadn't been sick or anything with our first child - so it never even crossed our mind… My grandma of course wanted to know if we knew what caused that… Ha… That was a crazy way to find out you were about to have another child… But not near as crazy as the first Christmas story… LK 1:26-38 26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy In a couple of weeks we are going to talk about this baby… Elizabeth is the mom of John the baptist - so when she's 6 months along, Mary is going to have the following happen… God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. This is not the first time Gabriel has appeared in the bible, he is who announced the birth of John the Baptist, but in 538BC this same angel appeared to Daniel… Daniel is in his 80s, he knows the prophecy in Jeremiah that says the captivity in Babylon will only last 70 years and he's close to the end of that 70 years. Literally, within a year, Cyrus will make a decree for the Jewish people to begin to be able to start returning home. Daniel has been praying this prayer of repentance when an angel appears… Daniel 9:20-22 20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the Lord my God for his holy hill— 21 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. 22 He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. The message Gabriel will give to Daniel is almost universally accepted as pertaining to the coming of the Messiah -People don't agree about exactly what it means - it's probably one of the most confusing passages… But here's what's significant to me… We have Gabriel some 530 some years before Jesus' birth foretelling the Messiah coming and dying. b Then we don't hear from him again… b Until he begins speaking of the coming Messiah again… Here we have Gabriel greeting Mary, listen to what he says to her… 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob's descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” This is Shocking news -I thought finding out that my wife was pregnant after a negative test was shocking - this is beyond shocking… I know for most of you, you've heard this so much in your life you've forgotten how crazy it is. Mary is not an old woman at this point, she is probably late teens, maybe early 20s - she's a young woman. She's told she will conceive and give birth to a son and call him Jesus The Hebrew of Jesus' name is actually Yeshua it means, Salvation. There is so much in this proclamation - that Jesus would sit on David's throne that Jesus would be the Son of the Most High - a title for GodHe would reign over Jacob and his kingdom would never end… Here's what I want you to get… b You all know this stuff and it all makes sense - you know Jesus will die and raise to life, that His Kingdom is one that exists inside humans - not in a particular land. b But Mary didn't… This would have blown her away… 34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.” 38 “I am the Lord's servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. I have stood in the church that is built around the cave that they believe Mary was in when Gabriel came to her… Most of Nazareth is built up on this mountainside and the city in the time of Jesus was tiny, only a few hundred people living there in the stone-cut cave dwellings… It's a humble place… And it's in this place that Mary hears the angel's words - the foretelling of Jesus and she believes and says “I am the Lord's servant,” Do you remember at the very beginning of the sermon there was a video with a passage from Isaiah being read? Can I just read you the first part of that again? Is 53:1 Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? Who believed? Who was it revealed to? A young woman in a tiny town She was a nothing nobody - she should have been a blip on the radar of history that no one would ever know about… b Except she said, “I am in…” b and that changed everything… There was a reason God chose Mary & Joseph to be the parents of Jesus - Joseph's acceptance of this whole situation was just as humbling… Jesus' parents were people of deep faith and reliance upon Jesus - they were defined by trust… I believe God is still looking for simple trust from us, He may not ask you to steward the change agent for the entirety of human history - but He is asking for your whole devotion… One of the things that has struck me from studying the life of Jesus so much is how singular He was in His desire for devotion from those who followed Him. CLOSING ILLUSTRATION: Years ago when I was a youth pastor, I had taken some of my kids who were leaders on a retreat to learn leadership - we did trust falls and low ropes courses, and finally we were going to do some repelling. One of the teenage girls was at the edge of the mountain and I was back with her twin sister sitting up against a rock watching as the guide tried to convince her sister to go over the edge. Her sister wouldn't trust the guide and she was freaking out.. That's when her twin leaned over to me and said, “if my sister dies, I'm suing you for everything you're worth!” I thought, “you have no clue how much youth pastors make…” Ha When I saw this video, it reminded me of those sisters… [Download and play video: https://www.tiktok.com/@shotovercanyonswing/video/7114409010261970177?lang=en] Let me tell you something… Following Jesus requires you going over the edge with him. It requires you being all in… Can I ask you one thing? b What is keeping you from going all in with Jesus? He came to save you from your sins - and the reality is this. when you go over the edge with Jesus and give yourself totally to Him. What you find is that it's not scary - it's like home. You find that the God of the universe who came for us, makes up residence in your heart!

If I ever reach heaven I expect to find three wonders there first, to meet some I had not thought to see their second, to miss some I had expected to see there and third, the greatest wonder of all, to find myself there.- John NewtonLast week we started in Revelation 5, and we read about Jesus being the only one worthy in all of created order to open the sealed scroll. This week we continue on that same story line of the scroll in Revelation 5:9-11 and we seek to find out what God reveals about himself in this passage. The Passage And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying,“Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”The List:There is a slain Lamb standing between the throne and the four living creaturesThe lamb has seven horns and seven eyes (representative of the seven spirits of God)There are seven spirits of GodThe Seven spirits of God are sent out to the whole earthThe lamb is able to take the scroll from the one on the throneThe four living creatures and 24 elders bow before the lambThe four living creatures and 24 elders are musical, having harps and singingThe four living creatures and 24 elders hold golden bowls of incense that represent the prayers of the saintsThe four living creatures and 24 elders are songwriters and sing in heavenThe lamb is worthy to take the scroll and open the sealsThe lamb was slain and ransomed people for God The lamb's people are from every tribe tongue, people and nationThe lamb has made people, priests to GodHe will people kingshipThe Declarations:You stand between the throne and the four living creaturesYou are a lamb with seven horns and seven eyesYou have seven spirits that are sent out to the whole earthYou take the scroll from the hand of the one sitting on the throne in heavenThe four living creatures and 24 elders bow before youThe four living creatures and 24 elders play music and sings songs to youYou are the lamb is worthy to take the scroll and open the sealsYou are the lamb that was was slain and ransomed people for God You were slain for people from every tribe, tongue, people and nationYou have made people priests to be before GodYou will make us kings to rule on the earthSubmit feedback or content:johan@beholding.caPremium feed to support the show and get future music and bonus content sent right to your podcast player as an episode. The Ignorance in v 21, leads to Idolatry v 22, which leads to impurity v 23The word wise is the Greek expression that describes a cultured and learned man skilled in letters. It is the word from which we get sophisticated, philosophy, and philosopher. The word fool is the word moron which means one who has had the opportunity to receive the truth of God and has deliberately rejected it.Psalm 14:1Mythology and idolatry have resulted from man's need to identify some power greater than himself and his refusal to acknowledge God as that power. Men and women have elevated themselves to God's position (cf. Dan. 2:38; 3:1; 5:23). Man has descended to the worship of animals as well (cf. Ps. 106:20). This is perhaps more characteristic of third world countries."This tragic process of human 'god-making' continues rapidly in our own day, and Paul's words have as much relevance for people who have made money or sex or fame their gods as for those who carved idols out of wood and stone. God gave them over means that the process envisioned in 1:18-32 is not simply the natural course of events but an ongoing history directed by a sovereign God who makes decisions which affect people. The thought is truly a frightful one. It is reminiscent of Pharaoh turning his back on God and God hardening his heart (Exod 9:16; cf. Rom 9:17).How can a loving God send men to hell?He will only when men consistently reject God, then He will abandon themGod only gives men over after He has shown Himself to us clearlyGod doesn't cause our downfall, the natural law of consequences doesGod cannot abide in the presence of sin, that is why he abandoned his son (Jesus) on the cross at Calvary while He was bearing and suffering for the sins of the whole worldVerse 25 is a good definition of idolatryTo believe the lie--2Thessalonians 2:9 -12V 26 For this reason God gave them up Why ....... look back at verse 25What God gave them up toVile Passions.. Homosexuality.. Even the women lusted for one another. Paul shows the extent of the moral collapse by telling us first that the women who are usually the last to be affected by this kind of sin have fell totally and completely from any moral standards. This is why Sodom and Gomorrah were judgedV28 God gave them over......man comes to the point where he totally rejects any knowledge of GodHe gave them over to a debased mind or reprobate mind in the Greek means not passing the testOften used to describe useless, worthless, metals discarded because they contain too much impurities or trash in them. God has tested man's mind and found it useless and worthless. And the idea of knowledge always means “moral or religious knowledge” in the NT. The point Paul is making, then, is this: Men and women tested the idea of God and having concluded that he would destroy their freedom (after all, he is the powerful Creator who has a legitimate claim on all his creation) made the conscious choice to dispel him from their thinking. These people no longer have the ability to know right from wrongv-29-31 Paul now goes through a list of words that describe Shameful Human Character, Shameful Human Conduct and Shameful Human ConversationIn this world it is getting where more and more that right is wrong in the majority of people's eyes and wrong is right. Our leadership is just a reflection of our nation with our sins totally uncovered and in our face for the whole world to see. There are two lessons in Romans 11. Because all have sinned only the grace of God can keep us from living the way these people have in Romans 12. The opposite of sin in Romans 1 is the power mentioned in v16 of the Gospel of Christ unto Salvation.

https://youtu.be/9qDBcfPlUpA Matthew 7:7-10 God is so good to us. I am living a life that I don't deserve and I'm not living the life that I deserve. God has been so gracious. Can you say that God has been gracious?Key verse- 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!“how much more” is what the heart of God is- he's not a somewhat God- he's a I will do it GodHe can, he will, he wants to . how much more. 1. How much more should we Stay dependent on God“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.Jesus is getting to the end of the sermon on the mount and using this time once again to encourage people to become people of prayerThe point that Jesus is making, and has made is that the disciples of Jesus should be completely dependent on God for everything that they want spiritually, physically, emotionally, relationally, and for any and all wants and needs they aspire to haveMatthew 21:22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”Individualism, self reliance, self aggrandizing is not the ethos of the kingdom- the ethos of the kingdom is dependence on God. We don't save ourselves, forgive ourselves, praise ourselves, accomplish our own Goals outside the help of God's sovereign hand. Psalm 10:4 The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.I get it- America is a ‘up by your boots straps get it done make it happen” kind of placeBut that's a American thought not a Godly thought- Kingdom thoughts are without God I can accomplish nothing- I can do nothing- its all on him- not on meThere's a balance here- bible says if a man doesn't work he wont eat- but it also says we can't trust in our own fleshJeremiah 17:5-9 READSelf accomplishment and glory gives God no glory which is the point of our life. 5 Thus says the Lord:“Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength,Whose heart departs from the Lord. This is very important distinction- Miss Ranger- food, walk, sleep, run- this what we're doing? That's how we should be- God- can I, should I, will I, can we, im not moving until you doWhens the last time you prayed and asked God about something that you could do?We must ABIDE- we must rest in HIM and HIS power and purpose and HE will do it if we ASKJohn 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.Now some have taken this to mean that whatever I ask for God has to give me and if he doesn't its because I'm not having enough faith, praying right, remembering the right scriptures etc. like it some cosmic spell we must cast to get God to move- its not- The decision and the outcome are in GOD's hands- not ours- we just keep asking- Forgiveness is always assured- Psalm 86:5 For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.Don't get it twisted- don't think that you're not forgiven if you've asked- forgiveness is instantaneous- you don't have to work for it at all- its assured1 John 1:9 if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.Connection to God is always assured- Jeremiah 29:12-13 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.James 4:8 draw near to God and he will draw near to you- It's the OTHER stuff that we're like- is this going to happen? Healing, promotion, moves, stuff, cars, house, relationships, we ask- cause we want- but its in God's hands if we get itWe can't get discouraged tho- that's where God's sovereignty comes into play- his decisionJohn 16:23-24 “And in that day you will ask Me...
There is power in the blood, and it's everything we need.Adam and Eve's tree was the option of choice, am I going to choose me, or am I going to choose God.The origin makes the blood so much more critical because our soul knows we have a right to it.His name shall be called wonderful counselor the mighty GodHe was sorrowed or injured for our revolt, rebellion, and trespass. He was beaten to pieces, smitten, or oppressed for our perversity, moral, evil thoughts, and mischief.Every time the blood flowed, it was for regeneration. It was for our redemption. The blood answers all calls, and it makes all things new.
This week we began our new journey. In this episode of The Journey of My Mother's Son podcast, I have another chat with my beautiful wife, Sandy about the first few days of our new journey. Leading up to our departure, it was a crazy, sometimes frustrating two weeks from our original settlement date on our house. Again, trusting the Lord's timing isn't always easy for me. However, during the extra 10 days that we had in Berks County from our original plan, we were able to spend some extra time with some of our family members. Another Friday breakfast with my dad, an in person visit with Sandy's mom, spending a few hours with my Aunt Joan on her 83rd birthday, and time with our kids and grand-kids was precious indeed. We spent Monday at another daughter's house in Perry County and early Tuesday morning we embarked on our first journey. We're a few days in. On Tuesday, we went down Skyline Drive and 60 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway into Lynchburg, VA, where we stayed in our first campground. Day two took us to dinner at Mabry Mill and a night at Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground. We'll travel the entire Blue Ridge Parkway from top to bottom on this first leg, taking our time and enjoying the journey. The destination is now secondary. It was bittersweet to leave Berks County, but we're excited to see what the Lord has in store for us on this new adventure. Below is poem that I came across when I was 17 years old. I found it along with some other stuff that I was cleaning out when we were emptying the house. I did not write this, I do not know who did for sure, but I do find it fitting for this moment. Peace. Good-Bye Sometimes it seems I just get to say helloWhen suddenly I find myself saying goodbyeMaybe that's why we should live each day as our lastFor today we live, but tomorrow we may die I hope I brought some smilesTo brighten people's dayAnd if I didn't offend my GodHe'll now clearly point the way We may forget each other's nameAs tide and time roll onFor tomorrow is upon usAnd yesterdays are gone If we never meet againThis is one thing I'd like to sayI'm very glad I met youAnd so glad you passed my way.
Prior to World War II, American political leaders tended to talk about national security by framing the U.S. as a “sanctuary” for democratic ideals that needed to be protected. After the war, this dominant framing shifted to focus on the U.S. as a “powerhouse” for democracy, in which the nation's responsibility was to go on the offensive and spread American ideals throughout the world. In this week's episode, Calvin and Alex speak with Kent State English Professor Patricia Dunmire about the ways that U.S. politicians and others in government have made arguments about national security throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries – what “security” means, who should have it, and what actions are deemed necessary to “maintain” and “promote” that security in the future. We also introduce a new segment called "re:verbrations," in which Ryan Mitchell speaks with guests at re:verb's launch party to get their thoughts on the power of language in society and politics.Cover Image: Commemorative "challenge coin" bearing the US National Security Agency (NSA) slogan: "Defending our nation, securing the future."
