In this episode of Tuna On Toast, Stryker interviews Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low. Alex details his early years and how he first started playing music, revealing that a Green Day song was the first thing he learned to play on guitar. He then tells Stryker all about how he met Jack Barakat, Rian Dawson and Zack Merrick, the other members of All Time Low. The band's breakthrough song was “Dear Maria, Count Me In” and Alex recalls how things started taking off for his group. All Time Low have released nine studio albums, including ‘Tell Me I'm Alive' in 2023, and Alex tells Stryker about the band's evolution with each release. Being part of The Warped Tour was another major experience for All Time Low and Alex reveals how impactful the festival was to All Time Low's career. Alex has also become close friends with Mark Hoppus from Blink 182. He talks about their friendship, what it's like working with Mark and the future of their collaborative project together, Simple Creatures. Subscribe to Tuna On Toast, leave us a comment or review, and thank you – as always – for supporting the show!

Throughout a catalog streamed nearly half-a-billion times and highlighted by two gold albums, two gold singles, and a platinum single, today’s guests perennially raised the bar for both pop and punk. Since 2003, the group notched five straight Top 10 entries on the Billboard Top 200, spanning the gold-certified Nothing Personal [2009], Dirty Work [2011], Future Hearts [2015], and Last Young Renegade [2017]. The latter attracted tastemaker acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, Paste, and more as the band canvassed the world, headlining arenas on three continents. 2019 saw them celebrate Nothing Personal with a string of sold-out shows and a re-recorded liveperformance of the album at RedBull Studios. The record’s influence remained prevalent with Rock Sound citing its impact on Fall Out Boy, 5 Seconds of Summer, and more. Along the way, they achieved honors such as “Album of the Year” at both the Alternative Press Music Awards for Dirty Work and Rock Sound Awards for Last Young Renegade. After nearly two decades together, they rekindled the spark they first ignited in a Baltimore basement on their 2020 eighth full-length studio album, Wake Up, Sunshine [Fueled By Ramen]. These four lifelong friends—Alex Gaskarth [lead vocals, guitar], Jack Barakat [lead guitar, backing vocals], Zack Merrick [bass, backing vocals], and Rian Dawson [drums]—walked into a tiny room, plugged in, and turned up with the same spirit, but a little more wisdom, a lot more experience, and proficiency gained by performing to millions worldwide. As a result, they delivered a dynamic body of work at the apex of pop punk prowess, rock energy, and genre-busting adventurousness. Jack Barakat, lead guitarist for the pop punk band All Time Low and co-host of the Full Frontal Radio podcast was scheduled to be the only guest on this episode so I was surprised when two faces greeted me at the door. "This is my buddy Justin," Jack said as he walked in. "Is it cool if he sits in?" I agreed, since I am an agreeable person, but spent the first many minutes before the mics were on saying, "Wait, who are you and what do you do and what's going on?" It's weird when you've researched the crap out of only fifty percent of your guests. As it turned out, I shouldn't have worried. Justin (who himself is a musician and music exec) and Jack go way back and having Justin there brought a fun dimension to the interview since he was able to provide another perspective and first hand account of many of the topics we touched upon including Jack's investment in rock and roll bars, his relationships and friendships with Holly Madison and Abigail Breslin, his dating habits, writing new material, anorexic aliens, a bathtub full of cheese, black Amex cards, how he met Holly, breakups, whether he's still just a guy from Baltimore, how someone becomes big in Japan, major labels, signing a record deal in high school, partying, chasing a hit single, Bod body spray and what his bandmates smell like, recording his podcast on the road, his childhood, fleeing war torn Beirut when he was a baby, music theory, Rivers Cuomo and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.
