In this MINI episode of Tuna on Toast, Stryker talks to Matt and Brad Shultz from the band Cage the Elephant. In 2024, Cage the Elephant released their sixth album, Neon Pill, and Matt and Brad give Stryker all the details on how it was made. Neon Pill was especially important for Matt, their lead singer, who suffered through years of psychosis before getting the help he needed. He tells Stryker all about his journey, and how it inspired many of the songs on Neon Pill, including the title track. Another great song from the album is “Rainbow,” and Matt explains to Stryker how he instantly knew it was going to be special. Stryker also asks the guys about the band's early goals, long before Cage the Elephant had massive hits songs and Grammy Awards. Matt and Brad also share some fond memories of their dad, a major musical influence in their lives, who passed away in 2020. In this episode of Tuna On Toast, Stryker chats with Abigail Morris, frontwoman of The Last Dinner Party. This U.K. band has quickly become popular all over the globe thanks to songs like "Sinner" and "Nothing Matters", and Abigail tells Stryker all about their rise in fame. The Last Dinner Party only played a handful of shows before getting offered a record deal, and it's been a whirlwind since then. Their debut album, 'Prelude to Ecstacy,' came out earlier this year, and Abigail tells Stryker all about recording it with producer James Ford. In this episode of Tuna on Toast, Stryker interviews Pennywise singer Jim Lindberg. Jim shares an array of stories from Pennywise history, from chaotic early shows, to landing their songs in surf videos (shoutout Greg Browning and Taylor Steele), to on-tour pranks. How did Brett Gurewittz from Bad Religion influence Pennywise? What was the early Southern California punk rock scene like? When did he know that Pennywise would be his life? Jim gives these stories and more. Over the years, Pennywise crossed paths with a long list of artists, and Jim mentions their history with Blink 182, The Offspring, No Doubt, Sublime and Fat Mike of NOFX (among others). Jim Lindberg was also hugely important to Warped Tour, and he tells Stryker all about its creation. Jim also talks about Pennywise's late bassist, Jason Thirsk, discussing his impact as well as how the band moved forward after his death. The song “Bro Hymn (Tribute)” was rewritten following Jason's passing, and Jim explores the legacy of the tune. Brent starts out talking about an elderly fan who recently went viral because of her love for Shinedown and "The Sound of Madness". He also discusses the band's hugely popular 2008 album, ‘The Sound of Madness,' and why it was such a major moment in Shinedown's career. Brent looks back on his early days, his upbringing, and the band he was in before Shinedown. Brent opens up to Stryker about his previous battles with addiction and his journey to sobriety. He also tells Stryker about his friend Jellyroll and explains why he's so happy to see the singer's success. Shinedown's song “A Symptom of Being Human” is a huge radio hit for the band, and Brent tells Stryker all about how it came together. This episode of Tuna On Toast, Stryker sits down with Butch Walker and Jayce Fincher of Marvelous 3. The band has been gone for over 20 years, but recently got back together. Butch reveals what led to the Marvelous 3 reunion and discusses the band's new album, IV. The guys also go back in history, reliving how Marvelous 3 got started and their breakout song, “Freak of the Week.” Turns out, Butch didn't think much of “Freak of the Week” at first, but it was Jayce who recognized the song's potential. The guys also discuss the highs and lows of success, including some dark times right before Marvelous 3 broke up. Butch Walker has had a very successful career as a songwriter and producer, working with artists like Taylor Swift, Pink, Weezer, Avril Lavigne and Fall Out Boy. Alex details his early years and how he first started playing music, revealing that a Green Day song was the first thing he learned to play on guitar. Ted Stryker welcomes the incredibly talented Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy to Tuna on Toast! Fall Out Boy release their new album "So Much (for) Stardust on March 24th, 2023. As we sit here today (March 2), the band has the number one song in the country with "Love From the Other Side". Their very first number 1!! The guys discuss what was the inspiration for the song...Pete also explains why not going back to the well of what Fall Out Boy created 15-20 years ago was so important when making the new album. He did not want a retread. Pete talks about all the rejection letters FOB received from record labels all those years ago before the release of "Take This to Your Grave". Pete recalls a show in Wisconsin when his current manager Bob McLynn was at that show and saw that rawness and spark! Pete tells the story of how he (Pete) signed Panic! At the Disco and the messages he received from Ryan Ross and Brendon Urie. Pete mentions the "magic" that Turnstile has as well has Lana Del Rey and Lorde! Stryker and Pete talk about how Tim McIlrath from Rise Against is like his brother and that they were in many bands together growing up. Pete shares that he really wants the young artists out there to break through. In this episode, Ted Stryker welcomes The Interrupters to the Tuna on Toast podcast studio. This pod is filled with all kinds of emotions, it's a fun rollercoaster! The awesome Aimee, Kevin, Justin and Jesse drop their new album Raised by Wolves on August 5th. Raised by Wolves was produced by Kevin Bivona and recorded in the homemade studio Justin and Jesse Bivona built during the pandemic. Aimee reveals that this is by far the most personal album she has ever written, totally autobiographical. Aimee opens up to Stryker about her lifelong battle with depression and how the biggest thing that changed her life while making the full length album is the treatment she did called TMS. Since the treatment....as Aimee says, life has been better in all ways! Kevin tells Stryker the story about auditioning for The Transplants when he was 18 years old and getting the gig as the keyboard player! This job with Tim Armstrong, Travis Barker and Skinhead Rob paved the way to playing the Warped Tour and forming a strong relationship with Tim, Travis and many other musicians. The three Bivona brothers tell Stryker about the band they formed in 2009 called The Telecasters... and going on tour with Sugar Ray, Dirty Heads and Aimee as a solo artist! Jesse and Justin were only 20 years old on this tour! In 2010 Jesse and Justin started to tech for Sugar Ray, setting up all the gear at every show...working their butts off! Justin and Jesse were then asked to actually join Sugar Ray by Mark McGrath (as they ate at Jerry's Deli on Ventura!) Aimme Interrupter tells Stryker how she ventured to Los Angeles from Montana at 18 years old. Aimee would walk on Sunset Blvd. hoping to find musicians who played punk rock. She did meet a band called No Motive which led to Aimee meeting Randy Jackson. Randy shopped her music around and eventually got her a solo deal with Elektra Records....Aimiee worked with Mark Ronson on her album which got shelved. Not too often mentioned....Aimee tells Stryker that it was love at first sight with Kevin (they are married). Please find The Interrupters on tour wherever you may live. In this episode, Ted Stryker welcomes to the Tuna on Toast studio.... the man who founded Warped Tour, Kevin Lyman!! Kevin tells Stryker about his life pre Warped Tour which included working Lollapalooza. Kevin worked as the artists liaison and stage manager among many of the hats he wore while working Lolla. Kevin tells Stryker about starting Warped Tour in 1995 and being totally broke after the tour. The price of tickets for the festival was $15.00! Kevin talks about talking to Fat Mike from NOFX and Fletcher from Pennywise to lock in their two bands for year two of Warped Tour. Kevin tells Stryker how Calvin Klein was almost the title sponsor before Vans became the main sponsor. Kevin tells Stryker how during the Warped Tour, Sugar Ray started selling 70,000 copies a week of their album Floored. Kevin and Mark McGrath had a chat about not only staying on the tour but continuing to play on the small stage even though the band was exploding with popularity. Kevin and Stryker chat about why Warped Tour took place outside and a daytime festival. He always wanted to pay homage to the past while moving forward. The bands that Kevin Lyman thought were great from day one were My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and AFI. Kevin talks about how Simple Plan played Warped 17 times while Less Than Jake played the festival the most! Kevin tells Stryker that 2017 was the year things on the Warped Tour went wrong, from the weather being terrible to the "youtube culture" to getting death threats on twitter based on some bands that were booked to play or bands that were not thrown off the tour. Kevin talks about losing sleep over the threats made to him and his family. In 2018, USC asked Kevin to teach, he's a full time professor teaching 5 classes! Kevin says "You can do good, and do good business!" When it comes to bands.....he says we need bands to stand for something! Kevin tells Stryker that he is on the board of the unopened Punk Rock Museum. Kevin tell Stryker exclusively that the museum in Vegas will open October 21st, the night before the "When We Were Young" festival kicks off. Kevin talks about Katy Perry being on Warped Tour and how New Radicals were a band that he liked that never got huge. He also was confused why G eazy does not mention his Warped Tour days. Kevin loves Yungblud! Kevin talks about Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit as well. Kevin Lyman is full of so much knowledge and is such a nice and generous dude. In this episode, Ted Stryker welcomes Paris Jackson to the Tuna on Toast Studio. Paris just released a new song called "Lighthouse". Paris recorded the song in December of 2021 with Butch Walker producing and Mike McCready from Pearl Jam on guitar. Paris and Butch had been talking about working with eachother for years, it finally came to fruition on "lighthouse" as well has future songs yet to be released. Paris released a solo album in 2020 titled Wilted which was produced by Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra. Paris talks about how great that experience was and what a good human Andy is. When discussing her music, she says at the end of the day, all her songs are folk. Paris tells Stryker she started playing guitar at 13 but doesn't consider herself to be a guitar player. Paris Jackson talks about how singing "Surrender" with the band Cheap Trick and playing a set with her own band at Boston Calling was one of the best days of her life. Paris also tells Stryker about playing with The Struts and botching their lyrics but still having a blast. Stryker and Paris chat about being so under the microscope and not having a chance to stumble without it being super magnified. Stryker asks Paris about music execs that try to get her to perform more under the pop umbrella than a rock or folk style. Paris tells Stryker about the music she grew up listening to from Motley Crue to Simon and Garfunkle and Snoop and Dre. Stryker asks Paris what is success to her when it comes to her music career. Paris tells Stryker how the band Radiohead and their music helped her through some very dark times. Paris mentions that she'd love to work with Conor Oberst, Cage the Elephant, Dave Grohl and Margot & the Nuclear So and So's. Paris tells Stryker she doesn't watch too much TV and really loves gore and to be scared! Paris said the only person that can really scare her is her brother Prince Jackson. She also talks about how lucky she is to have such great brothers. Paris tells Stryker how she's had a few songs written about her that were not good songs. Welcome back to the channel! Ted Stryker welcomes guitarist, songwriter, and overall good dude, Josh Klinghoffer to the Tuna on Toast Studio. Pluralone, Josh's band, just released another album titled This is the Show. Josh talks to Stryker about growing up in the Valley (Los Angeles) and listening to Morrissey, Depeche Mode, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC and Motley Crue. Josh tells Stryker how his Mom first signed him up for drums, not guitar. He started having friends (a full band) come over at an early age. At 15 Josh decided to pick up the guitar and learned to play without taking lessons. Josh and Stryker talk about how he is normally the youngest in the groups he plays with. Josh mentions the great Bob Forrest, the band Bicycle Thief and first meeting Bob. Josh tells Stryker about the "bloody battle" he had with his parents about dropping out of school. Josh's new album is called "This is the Show"! His band is Pluralone. The album was born during the pandemic. Clint Walsh (Dot Hacker) and Josh worked together and found great harmony (both life and musically). Josh also tells Stryker about first meeting Eddie Vedder and working on the album Earthling. Josh talks to Stryker about joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers at 30 years old and spending all of his 30's with them. The guys also discuss Pluralone opening for Pearl Jam and also playing guitar with Pearl Jam during their set. Josh tells Stryker about his growth as a person and a musician. Taylor and Stryker talk about moving from Laguna Beach to the Valley, Taylor tells Stryker about moving to Venice Beach at 18 to be close to Janes Addiction and the music scene. The guys chat about Taylor's love of Mountain Biking. Taylor tells Stryker about his first paid gig! From Sass Jordan to in 1994 to Alanis! Taylor and Stryker discuss luck and Taylor telling Stryker about being at the right place at the right time. Taylor tells Stryker about wanting to start bands in high school that sounded like Janes Addiction. He and Stryker talk about the band Sylvia. Taylor also believes that there is another Kurt Cobain or Jimi Hendrix out there! He also believes Kendrick Lamar is a superstar!! Stryker mentions that it's Taylors 25th anniversary in the Foo Fighters (2017) Taylor Hawkins discusses the pressures...or lack there of early on in the band and how Dave Grohl believes in the notion of a band. Taylor says the Foo Fighters were picked more based on personality than musical chops and how Taylor has learned from Dave while in the band. When it comes to the song "The Sky is a Neighborhood", Taylor says that it's their "Black Hole Sun". The guys talk about the making of Concrete and Gold and working with Greg Kurstin. Stryker mentions his love of the song "Range Rover Bitch" and Taylor tells a story about Liam Gallagher coming up to him at Glastonbury Festival and telling Taylor how much he loves the song! I'm beyond grateful to have met Taylor professionally. Taylor Hawkins created memories for millions of people that we will never forget.

The guys have a laugh at the fact that in the early Sugar Ray bio, it said Rodney was chaka from Land of the Lost! Mark and Stryker talk about how Sugar Ray, Everclear, and Smash Mouth may not be legacy bands, but they all created legacy songs. The guys chat about the history of Sugar Ray. It starts with the guys chatting about the Shrinky Dinx and getting signed to Atlantic. Shrinky Dinx became Sugar Ray with Rodney Sheppard and Stan Frazier as well as DJ Homicide. Mark talks a lot about how famed director McG was an important piece to the puzzle. They made a 3 minute sizzle reel, put it in a pizza box and sent it to everyone they could think of! The guys ended up getting a record deal worth one million dollars! Mark and Stryker chat about how DJ Lethal from House of Pain got involved in the album Lemonade and Brownies. Mark tells Stryker the story of how the King of All Media Howard Stern is responsible for the success of Sugar Ray! Stryker asks Mark about making the album FLOORED with producer David Kahne as well as the song "Fly". Mark tells Stryker about how the musical artist Super Cat came to be on the song "Fly". In this episode, Ted Stryker welcomes the creative force that is known as Mod Sun to the Tuna on Toast Podcast Studio (aka Stryker's second bedroom) As Stryker says at the top, Mod Sun is a talented and prolific writer, performer, producer, musician, director and singer. The episode begins with Mod telling Stryker that they actually met 10 years ago when Mod was working with Cisco Adler out in Malibu! Mod Sun talks to Stryker about why he left his previous band many years ago which he was the drummer in...The band was called Four Letter Lie. They were a really good band! That was the time he became who we know as Mod Sun. Stryker asks Mod Sun about his childhood growing up on a farm in Minnesota, raised by his Mom and sister. Mod mentions his Dad as being totally wild but someone who was also full of charisma. The guys talk about Mod's documentary titled "Remember Me Just Like This" as well as the fact that Mod has been invested in the type of music he is making today and the scene, since he was 13 years old! Mod tells Stryker that it wasn't until working with John Feldman that he felt a feeling of "redemption". John was the first to tell Mod that he was good , that he was special, that he was full of talent! Stryker and Mod Sun talk about his brand new song called "Rich Kids Ruin Everything", Mod worked with John Feldman once again and the artist Lil Aaron contributed as well. Mod Sun talks about going to a very early Fall Out Boy concert, Mod Sun was the only person in the front row area that knew the words to "Where is Your Boy Tonight". Mod tells Stryker about the time he snuck backstage and gave Pete Wentz an Ipod mini with Mod Sun's musical project called I'll Buy Myself, it was 10 songs! The guys talked about Mod producing the new Avril Lavigne album titled Love Sux. Stryker also asks if Machine Gun Kelly bought Mod a new car after he kicked in his windshield! The great Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional joins Ted Stryker for another episode of Tuna on Toast with Stryker. Dashboard just released their new album titled All The Truth That I Can Tell. The guys talk about the new album, the excitement and anxiety that comes with it, Chris is also super happy to see the vinyl in person which Stryker has out on the center table. Chris discusses playing live and his goal for every live show! Chris talks about writing the album before the pandemic, he also talks about working with James Paul Wisner again! James produced early Dashboard albums like The Swiss Army Romance and The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most. Chris tells Stryker the new album was written pre-pandemic. Stryker asks Chris about his mindset in 1998-1999 when it came to actually being a professional musician! Chris talks about what his musical goals were and also about being in the band Further Seems Forever. Chris tells Stryker how important Napster and LimeWire were for his career! It was bad for the music business but good for Chris! Chris talks about watching surf and skate videos and loving the music and waiting for the end credits to see who the bands were. A few bands in particular that Chris liked were Minor Threat, Fugazi, and Operation Ivy and many bands from the label Epitaph (shoutout Brett Gurewitz) and Fat Wreck Chords (shoutout Fat Mike) Chris talks about the Florida music scene and how inclusive it was. Chris discusses going on the road for his first tour with New Found Glory, followed by a tour with Face to Face, H2O and Snapcase and how unbelievably cool all those bands were! Chris tells Stryker about the pep talk that Toby Morse from H2O gave him! The guys talk about the When We Were Young Festival taking place in Vegas with bands like Thursday and My Chemical Romance. The guys chat about navigating the music business. Chris tells Stryker about the emotions that came along with the success.....from Screaming Infidelities to Hands Down to Vindicated on the Spider Man 2 soundtrack and everything in between. Stryker asks Chris about his terrible motorcycle accident that happened in June of 2020. Chris had to learn how to play guitar again AND how to brush his teeth and lift his arms above his head. Stryker shifts gears and asks about first learning how to play guitar, Chris talks about being self taught but also taking 10 lessons at a guitar shop a few years ago and going undercover to do it. Speaking of the new album, Chris Carrabba's favorite song off the new album is the track called "Me and Mine" which is about his family. Chris gives details on the new album artwork! Ted Stryker welcomes the smart and talented frontwoman Lydia Night from The Regrettes to the Tuna on Toast Studio. Please keep in mind, this podcast was recorded/filmed way back early November! The episode starts with Stryker telling Lydia how much he still appreciates the birthday call from Lydia back in 2019. They discuss writing the new songs and how emotional it was because of how honest and authentic the lyrics are. Lydia talks about writing over zoom and going with the band to Joshua Tree to write and record! The band ended up writing ten songs in ten days! Lydia tells Stryker about writing and recording the song "Monday" as well as chatting about Olivia Rodrigo making an appearance in the video. Lydia talks about how the current lineup of The Regrettes met and came to be. The Regrettes are a four piece consisting of Lydia, Genessa Gariano, Brooke Dickson and Drew Thomsen. Lydia tells Stryker about a band she was in at a very young age called Pretty Little Demons, they played the South by Southwest Music Festival. This was a really good band that wrote songs and toured, Lydia was only 12 years old! Lydia talks about opening for Peaches as well! Stryker and Lydia discuss another band she was in called Dead Man's Bones that Ryan Gosling was a part of as well as Zach Shields. Lydia talks about the new album Further Joy (which is not released as of today!) and what those two words mean to her. Lydia is open and honest about anxiety, depression and mental health.
