256 - How to Get Comfortable in Authenticity with Bijou Finney, The Mushroom Mamasita

Bijou Finney, also known as Mushroom Mamasita, is a Medicine Woman, Integration Alchemist, and Retreat Creatrix whose work lives at the intersection of plant medicine education, psychosomatic healing, and visionary life design. She works with conscious entrepreneurs, couples, and women who are ready to come alive, helping them clear blocks across pleasure, purpose, prosperity, persona, and power through somatic practices, plant-based wisdom, and therapeutic coaching. In this episode, Bijou and I go deep into a side of authenticity that doesn't get talked about enough. Not the curated, Instagram-friendly version—but the real, lived, sometimes uncomfortable experience of actually being yourself. We explore why authenticity can trigger resistance in others, why being honest often costs you approval, and how self-love isn't always soft, but rather, it's often brave. We talk about archetypes, nervous system responses, identity shedding, and what happens when you stop performing who you think you're supposed to be. This conversation is raw, grounded, and incredibly timely, especially if you're feeling a pull toward truth, clarity, and aligned action in this next chapter. This episode is for anyone who's done pretending, done shrinking, and ready to live from a deeper place of integrity, even when it's messy.Follow Bijou and learn more:https://www.mushroommamasita.com/https://www.instagram.com/mushroommamasitahttps://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/bijoulea-finney/episodes/Please remember to rate, review, and follow the show – and share with a friend!Check out our new Comedy Wellness Podcast: Anything But Mid, cohosted with Whitney Stropp:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/anything-but-mid/id1849386215https://www.youtube.com/@AnythingButMidFind Amy's affiliates and discount codes: https://amyedwards.info/affiliatepageSky Rock Sedona: https://www.skyrocksedona.com/20% Discount Link:https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-link.mi?id=1759866624184&key=CORP&app=resvlinkAll links: amyedwards.infoInstagram: @realamyedwardsFight For Her: fightforher.netTikTok: @themagicbabeYouTube: YouTube ChannelPodcast: The Amy Edwards Show PodcastFree Course: The Ageless MindsetFull Course: The Youthfulness HackWork with Amy: Book a Call Let's get you to your HAPPIEST and most RADIANT! Shalin Shah is the CEO of Marius Pharmaceuticals and widely known as The Metabolic CEO. He's a leading voice in metabolic health and hormone therapy innovation, and one of the strongest advocates working to destigmatize testosterone for both men and women. In this episode, we go deep into what's really happening with testosterone today — why levels are declining across the population, why this is not just a “male” issue, and why testosterone is foundational to metabolic health, longevity, mental health, bone density, and quality of life. Shalin breaks down complex science in a way that's practical and empowering, and explains why testosterone deficiency is being massively underdiagnosed and undertreated. We talk about environmental toxins, sleep disruption, stress, lifestyle, and the long-term consequences of ignoring low testosterone — including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, frailty, and increased all-cause mortality. We also explore the future of hormone therapy, why testing should be standard, and how innovation like oral testosterone could change access and outcomes for millions of people. This conversation is informative, eye-opening, and honestly a bit of a wake-up call — especially for anyone in midlife who wants to age strong, think clearly, and feel energized again. What we cover:Why testosterone levels are declining in men and womenTestosterone as a metabolic health marker, not a lifestyle drugThe role of sleep, stress, toxins, and modern lifeWhy fatigue, brain fog, depression, and low motivation are often hormonalThe truth about testosterone myths and stigmaWhy testing matters — and why baselines should start earlyThe difference between “normal” and “optimal” hormone levelsOral vs topical vs injectable testosteroneWhy muscle, bone health, and longevity are directly tied to hormonesWhat's changing at the FDA — and why this moment mattersPanel: https://www.fda.gov/patients/fda-expert-panels/fda-expert-panel-testosterone-replacement-therapy-men-12102025?Comments: https://www.regulations.gov/document/FDA-2025-N-6743-0001/commentwww.kyzatrex.comhttps://www.instagram.com/themetabolicceo/Please remember to rate, review, and follow the show – and share with a friend!Check out our new Comedy Wellness Podcast: Anything But Mid, cohosted with Whitney Stropp:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/anything-but-mid/id1849386215https://www.youtube.com/@AnythingButMidFind Amy's affiliates and discount codes: https://amyedwards.info/affiliatepageSky Rock Sedona: https://www.skyrocksedona.com/20% Discount Link:https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-link.mi?id=1759866624184&key=CORP&app=resvlinkAll links: amyedwards.infoInstagram: @realamyedwardsFight For Her: fightforher.netTikTok: @themagicbabeYouTube: YouTube ChannelPodcast: The Amy Edwards Show PodcastFree Course: The Ageless MindsetFull Course: The Youthfulness HackWork with Amy: Book a Call Let's get you to your HAPPIEST and most RADIANT! Lured Up - A Pokémon GO Podcast

Lured Up Podcast 377 Live Streamed on - 1/6/26 Publish Date - 1/9/26 We are back from our holiday break and ready to get back on the grind! We hope everyone had a great end to 2025 and a positive outlook on 2026. From everyone at the Pokémon Professor Network, we hope you have the Happiest of New Years. Trainers woke up this week to a major spawn point shuffle, with reports of house spawns updating from 10 to as few as 2. Keep in mind you will hear more about the bad stuff than the good, but there have also been reports of spawns increasing in other areas. Our best hunch is this could either have been influenced by an update to the game's feed from Open Street Map or it is Niantic slash Scopely trying to influence where we play the game. We will have to pay attention to the community to find out if increases are to be found in parks and rural areas.Unfortunately, Niantic Support has been spreading some seemingly incorrect reasoning for the updates, which will only add to confusion and upset Trainers. This week brings a new Dex entry with Klauf and a new Shiny with Dhelmise during the Pinch Perfect event. Field Research should keep you busy looking for the Win a Raid task which could bring you either of the two of the event's featured Pokémon. This weekend is going to be great with Kyurem Fusion Raid Day. Thanks to GO Hub, we will run through the best counters for each of the four Raids from the event, with four separate Battle Parties, as well as a single party you can use for all of the Raids during the event. The January GO Pass is here with the major reward being a Lucky Trinket. End Game Trainers may think it has a little less value, as the post 70 Lucky Friend grind is bringing Trainers multiple Lucky Friends a week. The total rewards as a whole still give the GO Pass great value, with the free version still providing some fun and consistent and daily gameplay. We wrap up with a chat about some of our plans for the new year, including some IRL short form video and some travel for events. We can't wait to roll things out soon! Let's charge up that inner Fire Horse in 2026! In this solo episode, I'm talking about what it really means to take aligned action: not forced action, not performative hustle, but the kind of movement that actually changes your life. We all love setting goals and making lists, but nothing shifts until we're willing to face what's real and take the next brave step. And 2026 is prepped and ready for us!I walk you through my five-step process for aligned action, using my own story of getting honest about finances, habits, self-trust, and momentum. This episode is about listening to your intuition, getting quiet before you get busy, naming true yeses and noes, and taking small courageous steps without waiting for permission.Aligned action isn't rigid or perfect, but rather, it's a relationship. It's learning, adjusting, recalibrating, and continuing to move forward even when it's uncomfortable. If you've been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start, this episode will help you reconnect to your inner fire and start moving again, one aligned step at a time. Please remember to rate, review, and follow the show – and share with a friend!Check out our new Comedy Wellness Podcast: Anything But Mid, cohosted with Whitney Stropp:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/anything-but-mid/id1849386215https://www.youtube.com/@AnythingButMidFind Amy's affiliates and discount codes: https://amyedwards.info/affiliatepageSky Rock Sedona: https://www.skyrocksedona.com/20% Discount Link:https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-link.mi?id=1759866624184&key=CORP&app=resvlinkAll links: amyedwards.infoInstagram: @realamyedwardsFight For Her: fightforher.netTikTok: @themagicbabeYouTube: YouTube ChannelPodcast: The Amy Edwards Show PodcastFree Course: The Ageless MindsetFull Course: The Youthfulness HackWork with Amy: Book a Call Let's get you to your HAPPIEST and most RADIANT! This moment... this New Year... disturbs many. I want to share a disturbing moment from my autistic youth—and how I survived it. It weirdly relates to right now.At 70-something, this is the happiest time of my autistic life. Not chasing distant goals—just breathing in this fabulous moment here. This piece inverts Yeats' “Second Coming” to tell a personal story about my grandfather, sailing out to Montauk Point, and discovering that the anxiety of losing sight of shore gives way to something unexpected.Content Note: This piece addresses troubling family history and inherited complexity. My grandfather was a complex man who kept Mein Kampf in his nightstand. And who also took me sailing. Out on the water to Montauk Point, I'd experience overwhelming anxiety as we lost sight of shore. Just sky, waves, constant rolling. In working with people over the years—and witnessing transformations in health, happiness, relationships, prosperity, and success—certain patterns stand out again and again. There are powerful, foundational insights that consistently help people create real change—yet they're often overlooked. Not because they're complicated… but because they're subtle, and sometimes even counterintuitive. In many cases, people don't realize these patterns are a problem at all—yet they can quietly undermine happiness, sabotage success, and strain relationships. When shifted and programmed in a positive way, however, they can uplift every area of life. In today's episode, Brandy Gillmore shares two of these hidden but powerful insights—distinctions that can help you step into emotional strength, clear what's been quietly holding you back, and begin taking your life to the next level. You'll explore: Why stepping into your strength isn't about force—but emotional empowerment How subtle emotional patterns can quietly influence health, happiness, relationships, and success Why these often-overlooked shifts can become the missing key to creating lasting change If you've been doing "all the right things" but feel like something invisible is still limiting your growth, this episode may help you see what's been missing—and how to shift it. Sometimes it's not about doing more… It's about recognizing the powerful insights that change everything. Do you want to see proof of the power of the mind in a medical journal? Here's a demonstration of Brandy Gillmore working with volunteers under medical equipment, as featured in a medical journal. Whitney Stropp is a podcast host, comedian, writer, and speaker, and the co-creator of Every Widow Thing, a show that has become a lifeline for people navigating grief, loss, and identity after the death of a spouse. She's also my co-host on our new podcast Anything But Mid, where we're rethinking midlife without the pressure to fix, optimize, or pretend everything is fine.In this conversation, Whitney and I talk honestly about grief, midlife, menopause, reinvention, and the unexpected role humor plays in surviving hard seasons. Whitney shares how losing her husband reshaped her worldview, why grief is not linear, and how laughter became both a coping mechanism and a bridge back to life.We also get real about the overwhelm of midlife wellness trends, the pressure to “optimize everything,” the fear of aging, and why this season can actually be the most expansive chapter yet. This episode is funny, raw, comforting, and deeply human — like a conversation you'd have with a close friend after the holidays when real life sets back in.What we talk about:Navigating grief without a “right” way to do itWhy humor can coexist with deep painReinventing yourself in midlifeThe freedom that comes with empty nesting and identity shiftsMenopause, brain fog, and body changes — without shameLetting go of the pressure to optimize everythingWhy “Anything But Mid” is about permission, not perfectionGratitude, perspective, and choosing the next chapter consciouslyPlease remember to rate, review, and follow the show – and share with a friend!Check out our new Comedy Wellness Podcast: Anything But Mid, cohosted with Whitney Stropp:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/anything-but-mid/id1849386215https://www.youtube.com/@AnythingButMidFind Amy's affiliates and discount codes: https://amyedwards.info/affiliatepageSky Rock Sedona: https://www.skyrocksedona.com/20% Discount Link:https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-link.mi?id=1759866624184&key=CORP&app=resvlinkAll links: amyedwards.infoInstagram: @realamyedwardsFight For Her: fightforher.netTikTok: @themagicbabeYouTube: YouTube ChannelPodcast: The Amy Edwards Show PodcastFree Course: The Ageless MindsetFull Course: The Youthfulness HackWork with Amy: Book a Call Let's get you to your HAPPIEST and most RADIANT! ✨Hey! This week looks a little different around here — on purpose.   Instead of our usual rhythm, I'm airing five episodes in five days.   Think of it as a mini-series designed especially for you — curated, fun, and binge-worthy. Fewer cliffhangers, more “ohhh… that makes sense.”   Every episode this week features a conversation from a show I've been invited onto as a guest — hosted by smart, generous people you'll genuinely enjoy listening to. Each episode stands on its own. Together, they create momentum. So if you've been listening here and there, this is a great week to lean in.   Start wherever you want — or (best option) listen in order and let the through-line reveal itself.    Either way, I'd love to hear what you think. Happiest and Healthiest Holidays to you and your loved ones. ✨ Episode Title: The Gut–Hormone Conversation No One Is Actually Having (Yet) Most people think hormone issues start in the ovaries, thyroid, or adrenal glands. They don't. They start in the gut. In this episode, I'm stepping into the guest seat on Vitality Radio with Jared St. Clair for a deep, practical, wait-why-did-no-one-explain-it-like-this conversation about the gut–hormone axis — and the overlooked role of something called the estrobolome. If you've ever dealt with estrogen dominance, stubborn hormone symptoms, thyroid issues that don't match your labs, or the feeling that your body just isn't responding to all the “right” things you're doing… this episode connects the dots. We unpack how gut imbalances quietly recycle hormones that should be leaving your body, why estrogen issues are often gut issues in disguise, and how digestion, detoxification, inflammation, and stress all collide in midlife — especially for women. It's nerdy in the best way, grounded in physiology (not fear), and refreshingly honest about what actually moves the needle. In This Episode, We Get Into: • What the estrobolome is — and why it matters way more than you've been told • How estrogen is supposed to leave your body… and what happens when it doesn't • Why gut dysbiosis can quietly drive estrogen dominance, PMS, PCOS, and heavy cycles • The surprising connection between gut health and thyroid conversion (T4 → T3) • How leaky gut can increase inflammation and lower testosterone (yes, in women and men) • Why hormone replacement often underperforms when the gut isn't addressed first • Simple food-based strategies that support hormone clearance — without perfection or extremes Timestamps 00:03 — Why this conversation always comes back to the gut 09:00 — What the estrobolome is (and why it explains so much) 13:00 — Estrogen recycling, beta-glucuronidase, and the “garbage truck” analogy you won't forget 21:00 — Fiber, inflammation, and why small changes matter more than perfect ones 28:00 — Gut health and thyroid conversion (when labs look fine but you feel awful) 34:00 — Leaky gut, testosterone, and why hormones don't operate in isolation 41:00 — Where to actually start if this feels overwhelming The Big Takeaway Hormones don't malfunction in isolation. They respond to the environment inside your body — especially in the gut. Great news, it's fixable. When digestion, detoxification, and inflammation are off, hormones get louder… not because they're broken, but because they're stuck in the wrong feedback loop. This episode is about stepping out of symptom-chasing mode and into physiology-first thinking — where the goal isn't control, restriction, or another protocol… but restoring systems that already know what to do. Happiest and Healthiest Holidays to you and your loved ones. ✨   Episode Title: Your Gut Is Running the Whole Shebang (Whether You Realize It or Not) Why leaky gut, low stomach acid, and chronic stress quietly shape your energy, mood, and ability to slow aging There's a reason gut health keeps coming back into the conversation - the body has a way of forcing the conversation when it's been ignored long enough. In this episode of Wellness Your Way Podcast, Megan Lyons and I skip the wellness buzzwords and get into the uncomfortable truth: a lot of people aren't “mysteriously” inflamed, exhausted, anxious, or reactive — their gut has been under chronic stress for years, and it's finally showing up in symptoms they can't muscle through anymore. We talk about what leaky gut actually means (and why it's not a fringe diagnosis), how food sensitivities are often created by stress and inflammation, not something you're doomed with forever, and why digestion is one of the first systems to shut down when the body feels under pressure. This isn't a perfect-diet episode. It's a physiology-first conversation about digestion, immunity, hormones, and why the body stops whispering and starts shouting when no one's listening. In This Episode, We Cover: 00:02 – Why the gut is more than digestion (hello serotonin, immunity, and your “second brain”) 06:00 – Leaky gut explained without the fear-mongering (and why most people misunderstand it) 11:00 – Food sensitivities: why everything you love suddenly feels reactive 15:30 – The 3 R's of gut healing: remove, replace, restore 19:45 – Autoimmunity, Hashimoto's, and the gut connection no one warned you about 24:00 – Low stomach acid: when reflux isn't what you think it is 28:30 – Candida, sugar cravings, and the symptoms people never connect to the gut 33:30 – What to add in for a healthier microbiome (without chasing perfection) 36:30 – Fecal transplants, postbiotics, and where gut research is actually headed 39:30 – My real-life self-care routine (the non-glamorous version) The Bigger Takeaway Gut health isn't about obsessing over every bite or eliminating everything you enjoy. It's about creating an internal environment where digestion works, inflammation calms down, and the nervous system isn't constantly bracing for impact. When the gut is compromised, the body doesn't whisper — it compensates… until it can't. This episode is an invitation to stop treating symptoms in isolation and start looking at the system underneath them. Where To Find Me

✨   Episode Title: Another Protocol? Why Wellness May Be Making You Sicker It's a subtle shift, but at some point, health stops being a goal — and becomes something you start chasing. There's a moment when wellness stops being something you pursue with curiosity and becomes something you're striving for — constantly, urgently, and never quite catching. More tracking. More fixing. More rules. More pressure to get-it-right... all under the promise that this will finally be the thing that makes you feel better. Except instead of feeling better, you feel more tired, more inflamed, and more frustrated with your body than ever. In this episode, I join Tiffany Sauder on the Life of And Podcast for a provocative conversation — one that questions the very foundation of modern wellness culture. We talk about how constant protocols, tracking, optimizing, and “fixing” can quietly dysregulate the nervous system, why women are especially vulnerable to this cycle, and how healing often requires less input, not more. We don't need to consume more information from experts or influencers.  This episode is not about stacking habits. It's about interrupting the stress loop that keeps people cycling through plans, practitioners, and promises — without ever feeling truly well. And it gives you the conditions your body's waiting for in order to truly heal. What We Cover (with Timestamps) [00:02] — The moment that changed everything How a childhood conversation about cancer prevention sparked my path into functional medicine — and why prevention is always the quieter power move. [00:08] — Where to start when functional medicine feels overwhelming Why you don't need every test, every protocol, or every supplement — and how decision fatigue keeps people stuck. [00:12] — The 2–3 labs that actually give you clarity Gut testing, metabolic markers, and why running all the tests at once is often a waste of money (and energy). [00:16] — Why people fall off “healthy habits” (and it's not laziness) The identity traps, self-talk patterns, and nervous system overload that quietly sabotage consistency. [00:19] — Food freedom without the spiral Why perfection is a myth, how to stop self-shaming after one off-plan meal, and the mindset shift that creates long-term health. [00:22] — Real-life swaps that actually work From almond-flour cookies to club soda in a wine glass — how small shifts keep you socially connected and feeling good in your body. [00:30] — How to fuel a tired body on a demanding day Protein-anchored mornings, blood sugar stability, simple movement breaks, and a nervous-system reset you can do in under two minutes. The Real Conversation We're Having This episode is not asking you to believe in a new system. It's asking you to question the one you've been swimming in. If your health journey feels like a constant state of monitoring, correcting, restricting, or upgrading — your body may not be confused. It may be overstimulated. Healing doesn't happen when the body feels watched, rushed, or perpetually unfinished. It happens when the nervous system finally gets the message that it's safe to stand down. This conversation is an invitation to stop chasing the next protocol and start creating the conditions where healing can actually occur. No pressure. No perfection. Just physiology, honesty, and a much calmer way forward.   Where to Find Me

Happiest and Healthiest Holidays to you and your loved ones. ✨   Episode Title: Stop Trying So Hard: “Doing Everything Right” Is Keeping You Stuck Your body can't heal in survival mode — no matter how clean your diet is. What if the reason you don't feel amazing is NOT because you're inconsistent, unmotivated, or doing it wrong? If you've tried “all the right things” and your health still feels off—tired, achy, foggy, or like you're aging too fast—this episode is for you. What if it's because wellness culture keeps handing you high-effort solutions to your health complaints — and your nervous system is quietly waving a white flag?  In this conversation on Charis Chats, I join Charis Santillie for a refreshingly sane take on health: why feeling better doesn't require a total life overhaul, why tiny habits outperform dramatic protocols, and how stress, blood sugar, gut health, hormones, and mindset are far more intertwined than most advice admits. This episode is for you if you want to feel clearer, more grounded, and more energized — without turning your life into a full-time self-improvement project. If you've done the dietary shifts, supplements, yoga classes and still feel off… this one will stop you mid-scroll. Long exhale. What We Cover (with Timestamps) [00:02] — Why most people fail at wellness before they even start Not because they lack discipline — but because they're trying to change everything at once. We talk about why your nervous system hates that plan. [00:08] — My unconventional path into functional medicine The childhood moment that shaped my obsession with prevention — and why waiting for a diagnosis is a terrible health strategy. [00:12] — The easiest health upgrades almost everyone can tolerate Why adding beats restricting, how morning habits set your physiology for the day, and where people overcomplicate this fast. [00:15] — MCT oil, brain fuel, and using it without wrecking your gut What it actually does, who benefits most, and why more is not better (your digestive system agrees). [00:22] — Beets, blood flow, and why circulation matters more than you think Nitric oxide, brain health, aging, and the simple daily support most people overlook. [00:26] — Habit stacking: the science-backed shortcut to consistency Why motivation is unreliable, how your brain actually forms habits, and how tiny wins build momentum without burnout. [00:31] — Your body is always listening (this part isn't woo) How thoughts, identity, and repetition shape physiology — and why your subconscious is far more literal than you think. [00:40] — Gluten, inflammation, and the ‘small' symptoms people ignore Skin issues, fatigue, bloating, brain fog — why these aren't random, and what your body may be asking for. [00:55] — The mindset shift that creates lasting health Why consistency quietly beats intensity every time — and how small daily choices compound into real change. The Big Takeaway You don't need a stricter routine. You don't need more supplements. And you definitely don't need to be harder on yourself. You need simpler inputs, smarter habits, and a nervous system that feels safe enough to heal. This episode is your reminder that sustainable health is built quietly — through small, repeatable choices that actually fit your life. Press play. Your future self will thank you.   Where to Find Me

Once Every Two Weeks
Mighty Joe Plum's The Happiest Dogs pt 2

Once Every Two Weeks

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 9, 2025 56:43

Here's a tightened, smoother version:Once Every Two Weeks heads back to Tampa for part two of its deep dive into Mighty Joe Plum and their cult‑classic album, The Happiest Dogs—this time without guests, but with even more stories, memories, and unapologetic track‑by‑track nerding out.Mark and Thom start with life updates and live‑show war stories: canceled Bush plans, road trips to Oklahoma, and nights out with Sponge, Local H, Everclear, Counting Crows, and Gaslight Anthem—with plenty of opinions on which aging bands have aged well, and which absolutely have not. That conversation about getting older on stage becomes the framework for the whole episode. From there, they return to Mighty Joe Plum: Florida kids who turned youth‑group friendships into a major‑label deal and a regional hit, only to end up as one of the '90s great “almost lost” bands. They trace the band's path through Orlando station WJRR, producer Justin Niebank, a sound that was “just rock” with a subtle twang, and a history that somehow barely exists online—making this podcast an accidental archive for The Happiest Dogs. Most of the episode is a deep musical dive. Mark and Thom walk through the record song by song, highlighting Brett Williams' vivid but economical lyrics, his shifting vocal delivery, and the way the band quietly bends standard verse–chorus structures into something more interesting. From the opener “Irish” through “Borderline,” “I Fell In,” “Miss Hollywood,” “Stupid,” “Go Now,” “Sweet Orange Marmalade,” “Lumberjack,” and “Please Hear Me,” they talk textures, hooks, and the emotional weight behind deceptively simple lines. They give special focus to the single “Live Through This (Fifteen Stories),” which reached number six on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and turned an unlikely image—an ant's resilience—into a surprisingly hopeful rock anthem. Along the way they dig up old reviews, stray blog posts, and even a relic of a band website, laughing at odd U2 comparisons while insisting the song has genuinely held up.In the final stretch, they look at what came after: members moving into new projects, Mark Mercado's later work in A&R, Brett's unfinished Peddling Home material, and how one guest vocal with Jeff (as Horace Holloway) now feels like an “unofficial final” Mighty Joe Plum track. They each name their top three songs from The Happiest Dogs (with “Live Through This (Fifteen Stories)” at number one for both) and invite listeners to queue up the whole album, share their own memories, and argue with their picks—because on Once Every Two Weeks, the nostalgia is real, the music matters, and the conversation is the best part. In today's episode of Hot and Unbothered, your host Brianna Gomez breaks down jealousy, insecurity, and projecting: why they show up, what they're really trying to tell you, and how to shift into a healthier, more confident mindset because someone else's happiness should not take away from your's!! Happiest of Thanksgivings, Vintage Sand fans, and welcome to Episode 63, our tribute to the incomparable and quietly brilliant Robert Redford. Consider this. If all the Sundance Kid had given us was a series of memorable and subtly complex performances as an actor in a career spanning half a century, that would have been enough to make him a critically important figure in Hollywood, particularly in that mini-Golden Age of the American New Wave of the 1970's. Had the only thing he given us was two masterpieces ("Ordinary People" and "Quiz Show") and his other often beautiful work as a director, that alone would make him a legend. Had the only thing he done was pave the way for the arrival of nearly every single great American film director of the last four decades through his work as the founder and inspiration behind the Sundance Film Festival, that would make him one of the towering figures in the history of American film. And had he focused his seemingly boundless energies exclusively on the best of social causes, such as climate issues and indigenous rights, in the quiet and unassuming way he did, that would be a cause for a celebration of his greatness. The fact that Robert Redford managed to do all of this and more during his lifetime, and with such an unerring sense of grace, cements his place as a foundational figure of modern American cinema. Team Vintage Sand takes the last line from one of his greatest performances, in 1972's "The Candidate", and uses it as the title of our tribute to him as we ponder the what American film will look like without him: What do we do now?

Trusting that our loving Heavenly Father made us for a divine purpose helps us realize that our God-given gifts aren't competitive, they're complimentary! When we come together as women, we have the chance to praise each other, reminding one another of our worth and divine potential. When we embrace our unique talents and gifts, it helps us become our best selves and enables us to lift others along our way.  Today's guest, Natalie Hill Jensen, is a former Broadway performer who has learned through many life experiences that her talents and personality are God-given and when she is exactly herself, she's better able to lift others and share God's love. She delights in complimenting other women so they see their strengths and feel amazing.  Links and notes:  Parley P. Pratt quote Natalie shared:  "[The Holy Ghost] quickens all the intellectual faculties, increases, enlarges, expands and purifies all the natural passions and affections; and adapts them, by the gift of wisdom, to their lawful use. It inspires, develops, cultivates and matures all the fine-toned sympathies, joys, tastes, kindred feelings and affections of our nature. It inspires virtue, kindness, goodness, tenderness, gentleness and charity. It develops beauty of person, form and features. It tends to health, vigor, animation and social feeling. It invigorates all the faculties of the physical and intellectual man. It strengthens, and gives tone to the nerves. In short, it is, as it were, marrow to the bone, joy to the heart, light to the eyes, music to the ears, and life to the whole being."  Parley P. Pratt, Key to the Science of Theology Patrica Holland quote that inspired this episode:  "Somewhere somehow the Lord blipped the message onto my screen that my personality was created to fit precisely the mission and talents he gave me. For example, the quieter, calmer talent of playing the piano reveals much about the real Pat Holland. I would never have learned to play the piano if I hadn't enjoyed the long hours of solitude required for its development. This same principle applies to my love of writing, reading, meditation, and especially teaching and talking with my children. Miraculously, I have found that I have untold abundant sources of energy to be myself, but the moment that I indulge in imitation of my neighbor, I feel fractured and fatigued and find myself forever swimming upstream. When we frustrate God's plan for us, we deprive this world and God's kingdom of our unique contributions, and a serious schism settles in our soul. God never gave us any task beyond our ability to accomplish it. We just have to be willing to do it in our own way.  We will always have enough resources for being who we are and what we can become."
