Welcome back, gang.  this episode is a hybrid - music-filled mostly, and some conversation up top with the one and only Latane Hughes, followed by, starting around minute 16, a mix of songs assembled by Latane with a bit of help by yours truly.    Latane is a music lover. We've been friends for 13 years now. I met Latane in college -- and along the way, he's been a friend, a consistent source of energy and inspiration, and also a source of music knowledge and influence. Many of the best music-oriented experiences that I've known have been thanks to him.    Latane is a booking agent who manages the touring careers for a roster of 30+ musical acts, representing artists from all over the globe and specializing in booking shows in the North American territory.    By night, by morning, by all of his other times it seems, Latane is scouring the digital and physical planets for music that he shares in mixes like these and as a DJ with the Fundido duo and Earth Beath Team.   Thanks for tuning back into the jalapeno. Enjoy! -- track list:   Donald J. In this episode I interview Justin Hines, Ph.D who is an anthropologist on the topic of non-traditional relationships. Firstly we define anthropology and what makes anthropologists unique in the way they observe and study different behaviours and cultures. Then we dive into the definition of non-traditional relationships or relationships that don't follow the traditional monogamy model. We discuss nomadic tribes, evolution, biology and how studying primates can give us a look at how early humans likely behaved.

RIKI KNOX is a singer, songwriter and entertainer who’s unique sound and genuine lyrics have seen her blazing a new trail in the country music scene. She has a style that is authentically her own. With the term ‘Bro Country’ at its peak, she offers a strong reminder that being “raised country” is a way of life…without gender attachment. “I grew up as one of the guys” she recalls. "Sure, I was happy to sit on the passenger side of the pick up, or on the back of the four wheeler, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t doing my fair share of the driving” She’s a girl who values and appreciates the ‘little things in life’. That grounded mindset has seen her go from playing church and charity events, to sharing the big stage with artists like Dallas Smith, Marc Jordan, and Justin Hines - to name a few. 2014 found Riki filling her travel book with trips between Toronto and Nashville, and into Western Canada to lay the groundwork for her forthcoming album. “I wanted to write songs that really spoke to who I am as both an artist and a person” she explains. Staying true to that statement, she spent time writing with some very notable songwriters, including Willie Mack (Sara Evans, Collin Raye, The Oakridge Boys, Mark Wills), Jason McCoy (The Road Hammers), Duane Steele, Jake Mathews, Patricia Conroy, and Troy Kokol among others. When satisfied that she had the right songs in hand, she headed back to Nashville armed with the goal of creating great new music that her fans would appreciate and relate to. With Willie Mack at the producers helm, the infectious hooks and lyrics, along with Riki’s energy and unique style, manage to seamlessly blend classic country, country rock, and a new age sound without missing a beat. Riki's new single is called Six Feet Under.

Justin Hines is the kind of performer that is mesmerizing on stage and off. There really is no other way to describe his appeal. Permanently bound to a wheel chair that he doesn't bother to hide, Justin lives with a rare genetic disorder called Larsen Syndrome. He isn't stopped by his physicality, ( his joints are affected by his disease) and neither is his audience. All thoughts of disability go out the window once the music starts. His slight gravelly voice is reminicient of his idols, Jim Croce and James Taylor, and he holds his audience from the first note. He is charismatic and positive and he shines on and off the stage with his attitude. Against the odds, this singer songwriter, hasn't allowed physical obstacles to deter him from playing piano with 7 fingers or travelling around the world. He is a musical force that won't be slowing down anytime too soon. Justin’s latest CD came out in June and is entitled, Chasing Silver.
