Rock, metal, and high-stakes political drama collide on today's episode of the Metal Breakdown Daily with host Scott Penfold. We are breaking down the three biggest stories tearing through the heavy music community right now. In This Episode: The Poison / Freedom 250 Backlash: Poison frontman Bret Michaels shocked fans over the weekend by pulling out of Donald Trump's upcoming multi-day "Freedom 250" event in Washington, D.C. Michaels cited "unforgivable threats" against his family and crew, triggering an absolute war zone in his social media comments. We look at the massive fan pushback and why Poison bandmate Rikki Rockett had to step into the ring to fiercely defend his frontman. The Ultimate Revenge Cover Band: Puddle of Mudd is famous for its insane member turnover rate (Wikipedia lists 18 former members), largely due to Wes Scantlin's decades of erratic behavior. Now, two long-term former touring members, Matt Fuller and Dave Moreno, have joined forces to launch a tribute band called X-Mudds. Fronted by a Nirvana tribute vocalist, they are hitting the road this summer to play the songs they powered for ten years—without any of the frontman drama. Six Feet Under's New Brutalizer: Death metal icons Six Feet Under have parted ways with drummer Marco Pitruzzella and officially welcomed Ruston Grosse (ex-Master) behind the kit. Grosse is jumping straight into the fire, hitting massive European festivals like Hellfest, Graspop, and Copenhell this week before the band launches a massive North American co-headlining run with Kataklysm this fall. Interview by Kris PetersThis August, Tasmania's finest export, extreme metal pioneers, Psycroptic join like-minded-and-saxophone-wielding US progressive death wizards Rivers of Nihil for a co-headline tour that brings together two elite bands operating at the highest tier of modern death metal. For Psycroptic, the timing couldn't be stronger. Off the back of relentless global touring alongside the likes of Dying Fetus, Ne Obliviscaris and Six Feet Under, the recently released singles, Architecture of Extinction and Falling, plus their ninth studio album set for a mid year release via Metal Blade Records, the band continue to prove why they remain Australia's most respected technical metal export more than two decades in.Fellow Metal Blade label mates, Rivers of Nihil arrive riding the momentum of their 2025 self-titled release, a record that tightened their sound without losing the scope that has defined them since Where Owls Know My Name. Now fronted by bassist Adam Biggs, the band's current form is more potent than it ever was.Joining them on all dates are Melbourne's psychologically charged Growth who are on the eve of releasing part two of their highly anticipated album trilogy, Under The Under, and Sydney's uncompromisingly brutal, Slaughtercult, rounding out a bill that is equal parts precision, atmosphere and outright savagery.HEAVY caught up with Biggs to find out more, starting with what has changed with Rivers Of Nihil since they were last out here in 2023."Since then we've put out a new record that we did last year," he measured. "It's our fifth studio album and a self-titled record, and is the first one with yours truly on on vocals alongside our new guitarist, Andy Thomas, also providing his soaring clean vocals and such like that. So it's a mix up in the lineup of the band, but I think we've put together a strong cluster of songs, especially to bring to the stage."With the tour being billed as a co-headline event, we ask Biggs if that means themselves and Psycroptic will alternate playing last each night or whether it means something else."I think we're playing the same length set," he replied, obviously unsure himself. "I can't remember if we are alternating or not, but I'm fairly certain it's Psycroptic closing the show for the most part. I mean, we're on on their home turf and they're the national Australian death metal band so it's hard to argue with that (laughs)."In the full interview, Adam spoke more about the tour and what to expect, including having the final date at Necrosonic Festival in Brisbane. We talked about what fans can expect, as well as his recent transition to frontman and how easy that move was for him.Their latest self titled album was mentioned, including which album song was the most challenging to learn to play live and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Today Paul and Ben talk about Audio Mediums, Widow's Bay, playing the comedy, Huell, dream ants, what is an animal, the new digs of the Floating Museum, corrections from listener Catherine, Eugene Mirman's car accident, Paul's birthday, David Milch, and what the Six Feet Under actors are up to now.
Whelp, here it is: the final time this podcast is ever going to teach you about a short-lived show that you maybe never heard of. In the grand scheme of 90s sitcoms about attractive people living in New York, ABC's Oh Grow Up might seem like an also-ran. However, John Ducey's Ford managed to be a more rounded gay character than most of its longer-lived contemporaries gave us in much longer runs. He comes out, he questions his place in the gay scene and he gets laid. What's more, he very much seems like a prototype for the gay lead in Alan Ball's follow-up TV project, Six Feet Under. Devin KawaokaTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Devin Kawaoka. Devin is an actor who can currently be seen on Apple TV's Shrinking; as well as NBC's Chicago Med. In this episode, Devin and I chat about his first love, snow skiing. He was really good too, some say Olympics bound. He shares the story of what happened that turned his attention toward acting. Once he did find acting, he never looked back. Devin has starred on Broadway in the massively acclaimed 'Slave Play' and is realizing huge success on two of the biggest shows on the screen today. (The ones I mentioned above). Devin also shares the reasons that he chose NYU Tisch; not once, but twice. We take a bit of a walk down Memory Lane, as we talk about his favorite TV show, 'Six Feet Under', and why it was so important to him. It was so impactful to a young Devin, that the show has informed his idea of what good writing and acting can do for those watching. Along the way, we talk about his experiences on several shows. Devin plays Dr. Kai Tanaka-Reed on Chicago Med, while simultaneously playing the lovable husband Charlie on Shrinking. We discuss the logistics of filming those two shows at the same time..... nearly 1800 miles apart. I pepper Devin with questions about some of his other projects in film like 'Friend of Dave' & "Under the Lantern Lit Sky' as well as the television show 'Lucifer'. We then dive into Devin's recent foray into screenwriting. He has written pilots for two different TV shows, and he explains both what they are about, and where he is hoping they land. We end the episode by talking about the person who he admires and hopes to model his writing and producing career after.Follow Devin Kawaoka on Instagram to see what he does next!

Venom guitarist Rage Dixon and Six Feet Under guitarist Jack Owen headline this double episode, breaking down the making of Into Oblivion and Next To Die. Rage explains how losing two years of recordings forced Venom to rebuild the album from scratch, pushing the band toward a more experimental, live-driven sound, while Owen explores whether Six Feet Under is returning to its classic groove-focused identity. The episode covers Venom's no click track recording approach, the evolution behind “Lay Down Your Soul” and “Kicked Out of Hell,” and the band's direction moving forward. In the second half, Owen is joined by Metal Mayhem ROC correspondent Bill the Rager, bringing a 35-year friendship into the conversation, turning it into a heavy metal memory lane alongside insights on songwriting, touring, stepping away from lead guitar, and stories from his time in Cannibal Corpse. Place-Goers Week continues on TIYA, an acronym my guest—comedian/actor/YouTuber Danny Catlow—attempts to pronounce in this episode and we agree doesn't quite roll off the tongue. WE COVER SO MUCH GROUND IN THIS EPISODE. It starts with talk of how we met each other when my improv group Computer stayed on his couch for a festival in Austin when he was 18 and I was in my mid-20s. Strange! And then it ramps up (or cooks down?) into an exploration of grief in its many forms as Danny attempts to break the podcast's record for number of "comas" mentioned in an episode. We talk about: male hosting, sleep anxiety, bad breakup, mom dying young, contrarianism & shamelessness, play therapy, falling in love with restaurants, kids grieving performatively, Six Feet Under, mono no aware.Support the show and get the TIYA After Dark feed on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/thisisyourafterlifeFollow Danny:https://www.youtube.com/@Place-Goershttps://www.instagram.com/strongdannycatlow/Follow/contact This Is Your Afterlife:https://thisisyourafterlife.com/https://www.instagram.com/thisisyourafterlife/thisisyourafterlifepodcast@gmail.comMusic by TIYA house band Lake Mary:https://lakemary.bandcamp.com/https://www.instagram.com/chaz.prymek/Artwork by Matt Sage:https://www.instagram.com/matthewjsage/

This week, the boys head to Sicily to try and save cinema with 1989's “Cinema Paradiso”! This highly regarded film expresses the nostalgia of growing up in post-WWII Italy where a single movie theater was the only source of entertainment for a town. It ends with it getting torn to the ground, which is reason enough for us to grab some drinks and talk positively about the film, whether or not it's too nostalgic and sentimental, and how it reflects our feelings of today's cinema culture. linktr.ee/theloveofcinema - Check out our YouTube page! We're going back to 1991...and we're going STREAKING! Join wrestling superfans Alex Doriot and Travis White on their encyclopedic exploration digging up The Dead Man as we take our time-traveling hearse back 35 years to celebrate the origin of The Undertaker's greatest accomplishment - The WrestleMania Streak! We're revisiting 3 matches that tell the tale of the birth of this epic achievement. Up first it's a rare house show encounter between The Undertaker and Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka that's not just a test run for their Mania 7 match-up - it's also Taker's first ever appearance at MSG! Then we take a look at Taker's tune up for the PPV on the Superstars and Stripes Forever show taking on Tugboat. These two titans tussled on many of Undertaker's first live event appearances and were even briefly slated to have a match at Mania before the plans changed, so it's interesting to see what might have been. Finally we close things out with a look back at the match that started it all for WrestleMania 7, a passing of the torch between two phenoms of pro wrestling. It's a unique look back at the origins of the most legendary run in all of sports entertainment history as we celebrate it's historic anniversary. All that plus our monthly Undertaker sightings looking at Mark Calaway's role as the booker of AAA as well as some anecdotes from his latest Six Feet Under podcasts. Download, enjoy, and Taker Easy! This week, the boys drink and keep it positive as they head back to 1959 to discuss Otto Preminger's “Anatomy of a Murder”. Host, James Cox, the “handicapped” yet unstoppable champion of healing riffs, sits down with a true legend of extreme metal: Jack Owen, founding guitarist of Cannibal Corpse and longtime member of Six Feet Under. In this conversation Jack opens up about the power of heavy music to combat low moods, shares the song that always pulls him out of a dark spot (classic early‑Metallica), and offers practical advice for aspiring guitarists—from mastering power chords with Kiss and AC/DC to tackling Iron Maiden's “Phantom of the Opera.”Listeners also get an inside look at Jack's gear journey (from Blackheart to Solar), his tour schedule (June 4 – August 11 across North America, Europe and possibly South/Central America), and the new Six Feet Under album “Next to Die”—including its collaborative songwriting split, the fresh artwork, and why the band is leaning into “groovy horror” vibes.Jack reflects on the evolution of the death‑metal scene, the challenges of streaming royalties, and why physical media still matters to him. He even reveals a lightning‑round of fun facts—the heaviest riff he ever wrote, his favorite Cannibal Corpse record, an underrated guitarist (Jeff Waters), and the surprising truth that before touring he worked in drywall.Whether you're a metalhead looking for inspiration, a guitarist wrestling with finger limitations, or simply someone seeking music's therapeutic punch, this episode delivers a raw, heartfelt, and unforgettable glimpse into the life of a metal pioneer who truly believes that when words fail, the riffs speak. Tune in, crank the volume, and let the music do the healing.
Chris Barnes joins the Loaded Radio Podcast to dive into the new Six Feet Under album, the creative direction behind it, and what continues to drive him decades into his career. Barnes breaks down the writing and recording process, how his mindset has evolved, and why Six Feet Under still hits as hard as ever. From staying consistent to pushing forward in today's metal landscape, this is a focused look at where the band stands right now. Also on the episode, James McBain of Hellripper joins the show to talk about the band's rise, the energy behind the modern extreme metal scene, and what's fueling the next wave. Two different generations. One conversation about where heavy music is heading.
This week, we are talking about bands that have rock stars in them: Supergroups and Offshoots. We once again discuss how a band consisting of well-known artists from other bands does not always equal great success. Dive in with us as we discuss and listen to some of the more obscure supergroups and offshoots that didn't break with huge mainstream success or stay around very long. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show, Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week, we talk exclusively about Supergroups featuring famous solo artists and band members, along with Offshoots, which are bands that contain the bulk of a previous incarnation of a famous band. We hope that we turn you on to something new. Songs this week include: Alcatrazz – “Painted Lover” from Disturbing The Peace (1985) Subrosa – “World's Greatest Lover” from Never Bet The Devil Your Head (1997) Black Swan – “The Fire And The Flame” from Paralyzed (2026) THE LAST ROCKSTARS – “THE LAST ROCKSTARS (Paris Mix)” from THE LAST ROCKSTARS (2022) Circus Diablo - “Mad Parade” from Circus Diablo (2007) DREAMCAR – “We Rats” from Dream EP (2024) Swedish Metal Aid – “Give A Helpin' Hand” from Give A Helpin' Hand - single (1985) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts! Chris Naughton and Simon Lucas of UK black metal stalwarts Winterfylleth join me to break down the inspiration and themes behind their excellent new album, The Unyielding Season. We also talk about the band's decision to sign with Napalm Records, their take on how the music industry is evolving, and take a nostalgic detour into the halcyon days of British comedy. On the Weekly News Rant: new singles from Melechesh, Corrosion of Conformity, Skaphos, Sisyphean, Immolation, Transilvania and Six Feet Under get rounded up for judgment. PLUS: my six favourite 80s action movies, the fallen legends I'd most like to have shared a drink with, the definitive ruling on whether gas BBQ counts as real BBQ, and more of your burning questions answered. Brothers Drew and Eric talk about the 2024 movie "Caddo Lake," which is better watched with very little information known ahead of time. They liked it quite a bit. Conversation drifts from "Annihilation" to "24" to "Lost" to "Six Feet Under" to James Elroy. Eric found it helpful that he had watched "The Deer Hunter" earlier in the day for the first time and he found that it was exceedingly boring. Caddo Lake had much more going on. HBO's Six Feet Under pretty much always comes up in discussions of the best tv shows of all time, but also somehow doesn't seem to have been able to stake its spot in the larger cultural memory in the same way as hits of the same era like The Sopranos or The Wire. So today we're taking a deeper look at this insightful, darkly hilarious show and what made it work so well – but also why some of those same traits that made it a critical darling and fan favorite might have been the reason it was almost left behind (and why it's now, nearly 20 years after it that perfect finale, starting to find a whole new audience!) This is the Total Take, where we break down the most analyzable films and TV shows of all time through visual storytelling, writing, symbolism, world, and impact. Joanna Cassidy has never fit neatly into one lane, and that is exactly why she is unforgettable. In this episode of Still Here Hollywood, Joanna takes us from Syracuse University as an art student to a cross-country leap that landed her in Los Angeles and changed everything. She talks about her first film set experience with Walter Matthau and Bruce Dern, the shock of realizing she could actually act, and how her creative life has always lived in two worlds, performance and painting. We also dive into the legacy roles that keep getting rediscovered. Joanna shares what it was like stepping into Blade Runner as Zhora, working with Ridley Scott's meticulous vision, and why that film's impact only grew with time. She opens up about Six Feet Under and her love of dark humor, the craft difference between comedy and drama, the realities of aging in Hollywood, and what she believes keeps a creative person alive. Plus: animals, modernism, bungee fitness in Burbank, and the mindset that keeps her curious and working. Still Here Hollywood with Steve Kmetko. New episodes weekly. At the time of writing, Sara/Firecrotch-y has finished season 1 of Heated Rivalry and having cried during the penultimate episode, is now wondering if maybe the whole thing is a work of genius after all? Laughs and cries is the classic combo but cries and turn-ons? If this is the direction 2026 is going, we (I) don't hate it. Maybe the toppermost TV echelon is Sopranos, Succession, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and Heated Rivalry, but not for the dialogue, only for the wanks-'n-tears. Today on Too Opinionated we visit with actor W. Earl Brown. Wes Craven was an early supporter, casting Earl in New Nightmare, A Vampire in Brooklyn and the role of "Kenny" in the classic, Scream. Two years after the success of Scream, Earl played "Warren", Cameron Diaz's mentally challenged brother, in There's Something About Mary. Among his many other film credits are the highly regarded films: Being John Malkovich, The Master, The Sessions , Wild , Black Mass, and the Netflix hits - The Highwaymen and The Unforgivable. On television, Earl has guest starred in many series, including: The Mandalorian, Luck, Seinfeld, Hacks, Yellowstone, American Horror Story, Justified, X-Files, Six Feet Under, and NYPD Blue. Among the TV movies he has been involved with, was the starring role in VH1's Meatloaf: To Hell and Back. He played "Tom Carlin" in ABC's highly acclaimed anthology series American Crime (2015) and "Teague Dixon" in HBO's True Detective. He is probably best known as "Dan Dority" in HBO's Deadwood. During that series' second season, the show's creator, David Milch, invited him to join the writing staff. In 2007, Earl earned a WGA nomination for writing on a drama series and a SAG nomination for best drama ensemble acting. Establishing himself on a show as critically lauded as Deadwood opened doors for other writing projects, including the Sony release, Bloodworth, which Earl wrote and produced. Earl can currently be seen as Wes Fox on Sheriff Country. In addition to his television and film work, Earl co-starred in Sony's The Last Of Us, 2013 Video Game Of The Year. He also writes music and records with Sacred Cowboys, an LA based Americana band. In 2018, he combined his love of music and film by co-creating the short film, Dad Band, which racked up 1.3 million views on YouTube.
