Munger Place Church - Dallas, Texas

Kate Miner and I worked together for 11 years, and we had a pact during our time together: if either of us died, the other person was the leverage the heck out of the deceased's funeral for the gospel.  Well, Kate isn't dying, just retiring, but I decided on her last Sunday at Munger I'd like to speak about her and what she has meant to me and challenge you all to live for Christ.   —Andrew Forrest

Kevin Max has been kicking against boundaries for over thirty years, first as one-third of a platinum-selling pop-rap group, (DC Talk,) and then as a poet and genre testing indie artist. Now he’s leaving his solo career behind to launch a new band, Sad Astronauts, right after releasing an acclaimed tribute to Larry Norman’s celebrated Only Visiting This Planet album. What might we be able to glean from an artist like Kevin when it comes to pushing into new territory, redefining success, and becoming more mindful of the boundaries we work within – or allow to define us?And on the jukebox we crank up the legendary Mark Heard’s tentpole album, Dry Bones Dance, as we anticipate Lo-Fidelity Records’ upcoming super deluxe reissue, by talking with two of the artists who worked with Heard on that album, vocalist Kate Miner and bassist and Chapman Stick maestro, Fergus Marsh. We are also excited to present the late Mark Heard himself in the form of some vintage interview tape-recorded around the time of the album's original release in 1990.Support the True Tunes Podcast on Patreon for early access to episodes, high-fidelity downloads, special online meetups with the hosts and guests, and to support our mission to inspire better listening.

New Podcast with Actor/Writer Briana Lane! In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview Briana Lane. An LA native, Briana was raised by two psychologist parents (it’s not what you think!). While in high school, she was accepted to NYU Tisch School's musical theater program for high school students, which led to her majoring in musical theater at UCLA’s School of Film, Theater and Television for college. Right before graduating, she got her first job as a writer at CBS. She then went on to write, host and produce several shows for CBS’s new media platforms, CBS Mobile and CBS.com. She has hosted for E! News, MSN and Lionsgate to name a few, and most recently can be seen on a satirical news show on Uproxx called THE DESK. After a few years of hosting and writing, she decided to pursue acting full time and booked a role in her first pilot, ABC's CANNED opposite Amanda Bynes. This year, Briana can be seen in Amazon’s THE LAST TYCOON opposite Kelsey Grammar and Matt Bomer. She is known for her recurring roles on Freeform’s YOUNG AND HUNGRY, NBC's THE NEW NORMAL, Freeform’s SWITCHED AT BIRTH and the lead role in Disney’s BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA 3. When she’s not acting, she enjoys walking her dog Foxy, writing her series COUCH PEOPLE opposite Sterling Sulieman (STILL STAR CROSSED) and Sunkrish Bala (CASTLE), and making music in her new band FIDELITY INN with actress/musician Kate Miner from the band MINER. There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.
