“What we deal more in the second season with how your online persona and your real-life persona sometimes can't help but be at odds with one another. In the first episode back we get into how women are treated, how women in relationships are treated online. In a later episode, we deal with how women are or are not allowed to express their anger online as content creators. So it's something we talked a lot about in the room. That fracturing of self, that even in a goofy show that's very lighthearted and entertaining, it's something that we do discuss and try to sneak little tidbits in there.”Ali Schouten is a showrunner, executive producer, and writer who is quickly establishing herself as a creative on the rise as her formidable talent and artistic versatility continue to make waves. LGBTQ+ Stories · The Creative Process

“In developing Harper's character, it felt like just very realistic. We're in a major city that's very liberal, that's very creative, that this would be someone who would be a stylist, who would not necessarily need to have a coming out story because maybe they aren't from a background where… She might have come out as pansexual when she was 13. That probably didn't need to be said. Carly wouldn't be someone you needed to sit down and hold her hand and say, “I've got something to tell you.” That this is someone who would say, “Oh, cool, my roommate brought home a woman.” Or, my roommate brought home someone nonbinary. That's not something that we have to discuss. And Laci has talked a lot about how there is a place for that in a lot of shows and it's really important to have art like that, but it's also equally important to have shows where it's not this big deal coming out scene. That these are people just existing joyfully and living their lives and pursuing their dreams and relationships. That's equally valuable. I think we really felt that with the nature of the show that was the opportunity we had. It's such a joyful show that why not just show someone dating who they want to date and who they connect with.”Ali Schouten is a showrunner, executive producer, and writer who is quickly establishing herself as a creative on the rise as her formidable talent and artistic versatility continue to make waves. WHERE HAVE ALL THE YOUNG AND HUNGRY ENTREPRENEURS GONE? WHAT IMPACT IS THAT HAVING ON SOCIETY? When you hear talks and presentations from the last generation or two it is not uncommon for them to mention their first “job”. In fact many of them talk about how they earned money on their own before they were teenagers. That entrepreneurial spirit seems to be fading. What goes with it? Here are three things I believe inspire and are motivated by entrepreneurialism which are hard to teach or train any other way. 1. SELF DISCIPLINE The desire to have your own money and the options of how to spend it motivate kids and adults alike. From the old stories of house wives who would sew a few dollars at a time into the hem of a dress so they could run away of the must to the kids who hid money in their shoes so of the school yard bully accosted them for milk money, the still had a stash - a few extra bucks hidden away is always a good thing. People who recognize this reality will go to great lengths to make sure they attain those bucks. Babysitters, newspaper delivery boys, lawn mowers, laundry folders have been a staple of American childhood for decades. All of those require discipline simply show up for the work. 2. CUSTOMER SERVICE FOCUSEarly on the junior self employed realize that sloppy work and rude behavior means less opportunity. Doing what the customer wants done, they way they want it done is critical. Those of us who started very young (I was seven when I started mowing lawns) learned that arguing with the person who holds the purse makes you sweaty and yet still broke. 3. TRUE INDEPENDENCE Freedom is nice. The freedom to come and go as you plead. The freedom to play whenever you want. The freedom to do nothing if you choose. Nice. But it's hard to enjoy any of those freedoms if you don't have money or parents willing to give you money to spend frivolously. I believe leaders need to teach entrepreneurs to be go getters, customer centric and truly independent again. Not just how to complete a resume and W-4 form along with their I-9. Our guest in this episode is probably responsible for the funny tweets you saw, or that ridiculously viral campaign that captured your imagination. At 24, he’s one of those guys who has already had the life experience of most 40 year olds, with offices in Manchester, Berlin and New York, plus spending a small stint living in San Francisco as an Entrepreneur in Residence advising Bebo for their relaunch, he’s accomplished a great deal in a short period of time and shows no signs of slowing down. At the age of 18, Steve Bartlett dropped out of school and embarked on his first business, Wallpark - a social media venture connecting students with similar interests around, essentially a digital social notice board. He then exited that business in 2013 and Co Founded the Social Chain, having met a young guy called Dom McGregor, who had a unique knack of creating multiple twitter accounts and growing the shit out of them, and from there they’ve been at the heart of a number of viral campaigns growing Social Chain to a multi million pound business counting Apple, McDonalds and BBC as some of their clients. Quite rightly, they’ve picked up a ton of PR along the way and Steve, presumably learning along the way from those he promotes, has increasingly been popping up in my facebook feed as an inspirational speaker with his own YouTube channel, therefore, in his own right, becoming a key person of influence.
