Sarah Mason Walden embarked on a deeply personal journey as she began to craft her inaugural studio album. Collaborating with Josh Kaler at Pentavarit Studios in Nashville, she poured her heart and soul into every note, infusing her music with her distinctive authenticity.During the process. Sarah found herself recalling the challenges she faced during her early twenties, navigating the Nashville music industry where producers and executives often sought more than her musical talent alone. She was determined not to compromise her vision, so the songs lay dormant for many years as she moved on to a successful career in art and design. She revisited these songs born from her own experiences, reclaiming them from the shadows of her past. The many months spent in the studio became a poignant act of self-discovery and empowerment, granting her younger self a voice while offering her present self the invaluable opportunity to hone her new role as producer under the mentorship of the remarkable Josh Kaler.Joined by a host of talented musicians, including Jump, Little Children's Matt Bivins on accordion, Ward Williams on cello, and Jonathan Gray on upright bass, as well as Slow Runner's Michael Flynn on piano, the album resonates with a rich tapestry of sound. Special guest Nenad Leonart contributes his talent with historical harpsichords and organs from Switzerland. Kevin Max of dc Talk and Sad Astronauts, accompanied by friends Jessica Bleu and Rebecca Seaver, lends his voice to a stirring rendition of the traditional song "In the Pines." Mark Robertson, of bands such as The Ragamuffin Band and Th'Legendary Shack Shakers, adds his expertise on the upright bass.Sarah also crafted the packaging for the limited edition vinyl and CDs with the same love and attention, with hidden messages and symbolism that tie into her other endeavors. An art book of the lyrics is on the way, which connects to the immersive world of her Ramshackle book trilogy. A collection of textiles, murals, wallpapers, and homewares will be released themed to the album's tracks. With meticulous care, the album was mastered by Parachute Mastering and will be released on July 26th. The Reclamation promises a warm and immersive listening experience for audiences. Sarah's debut offering stands as a testament to her unwavering dedication to her craft and her steadfast commitment to artistic integrity.https://www.sarahmasonwalden.com/https://www.peacoquette.com/https://www.instagram.com/the_psarah/?hl=enhttps://www.threads.net/@the_psarahHost - Trey MitchellIG - treymitchellphotographyIG - feeding_the_senses_unsensoredFB - facebook.com/profile.php?id=100074368084848Sponsorship Information - ftsunashville@gmail.comTheme Song - The Wanshttps://www.thewansmusic.com/

What happened to the kids raised during the peak era of Christian rock? For insight into the state of Christian rock's late 1990s-early aughts evangelicalism you need not look any further than members of DC Talk, the pinnacle of youth group music. Their trajectory as artists and public figures roughly maps on to the trajectories of the millions of teens raised in American evangelicalism. In this episode, journalist and producer Andrew Gill (Sound Opinions) surprises historian Leah Payne (God Gave Rock and Roll to You: a History of Contemporary Christian Music) with a fan-made quiz that asks: are you a Toby Mac, a Michael Tait, or a Kevin Max? Together with two Christian rock aficionados, journalist Jason Kirk (author of Hell Is a World Without You) and comedian Kevin T. Porter (co-host of Good Christian Fun), Rock That Doesn't Roll explores the aftermath of the peak youth group band era.Take the quiz for yourself!Listen to the Hell Is a World Without You playlist on Spotify.Do you have a Christian rock story to tell? "The Old Rugged Cross" has been a country gospel favorite ever since it became the title song of Ernest Tubb's 1952 gospel album; it has been performed by some of the twentieth century's most important recording artists, including Al Green, Andy Griffith, Anne Murray, Brad Paisley, Chet Atkins, Chris Barber, John Berry, Floyd Cramer, George Jones, Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash and June Carter, Kevin Max, Ella Fitzgerald, Mahalia Jackson, Jo Stafford, Gordon MacRae, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Ray Price, Ricky Van Shelton, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans,[9] The Oak Ridge Boys, The Statler Brothers, Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, George Beverly Shea, James Morrison on the 1990 album "Snappy Doo", and John Prine on the 2007 album "Standard Songs for Average People" with Mac Wiseman. British television dramatist Dennis Potter used the gospel song prominently in several of his plays, most notably Pennies from Heaven (1978); and the song also played a major part in "Gridlock" (2007), an episode of the long-running sci-fi drama series Doctor Who. In early 2009, the song was covered by Ronnie Milsap on his gospel album Then Sings My Soul.

Calvin Moore, Kent Straith, and Steve Phelps continue their conversation discussing the March 2022 cover story of Christianity Today, "You're Not Deconstructing?" Is deconstructing one's faith bad in and of itself? How do we weigh church/spiritual abuse against deconstruction? How do we address deconstruction due to faith not aligning with a person's lived experience? What is the human's limitation when trying to conceive of their faith? What does it mean to "wrestle with God"? Website www.progressivechristianreview.com launching August 1, 2022.

On this episode Chris and Jesse discuss and reflect on dc Talk in a RETROSPECTIVE. From Wikipedia: DC Talk (stylized as dc Talk) is a Christian rap and rock trio. The group was formed at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1987 by Toby McKeehan, Michael Tait, and Kevin Max Smith. They released five major studio albums together: DC Talk (1989), Nu Thang (1990), Free at Last (1992), Jesus Freak (1995), and Supernatural (1998). In 2002, the Encyclopedia of Contemporary Christian Music called DC Talk "the most popular overtly Christian act of all time." In 2001, the group released an EP, Solo, which contained two solo songs from each member. Since that time, DC Talk has been on an indefinite hiatus, and the three band members all have led solo careers and two have joined other groups. They performed and recorded individual songs together several times during the 2000s, although the group never officially reunited or disbanded. We discuss the awards; the artists that influenced them; what they are doing now and some more things on Part 2

Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:0:00 - Introduction1. 0:45 {About Church Discipline} Can you please explain what the Bible says about local churches having a process of “church discipline” and how that should be carried out? Should it be rare, or a regular part of church life? Where should leaders draw the line when deciding if someone made a minor mistake vs. someone needing discipline?2. 13:02 {Is Baptism Required?} Why does the Bible sound like baptism is required for salvation in some places (eg. Mark 16: 16)? Does Acts 1:5 answer what KIND of baptism IS required (Holy Spirit baptism)? And what did Jesus mean by “to fulfill righteousness”?3. 18:31 {About Tithing & “Prosperity” Teachings} My church says a declaration before tithing. Part of it is: "I am believing Him for advancements, God-ideas, blessings & increases, financial freedom, & breakthroughs." Is this a prosperity church red flag?4. 22:00 {Are Murder Mysteries Appropriate for Believers?} I watched your video on Halloween, and I’m wondering what your thoughts are on murder mystery dinner parties (and for that matter, murder mysteries in general). Is it wrong to be entertained by them?5. 25:17 {Why does Pastor Mike Love Jesus?} I would love to know, why do you love Jesus?6. 26:52 {About Doubt, Truth, & Bias} My friend is doubting his faith and reality because he claims there's no way to discern truth objectively without some sort of bias. How would you answer him?7. 31:06 {Can Sons be Punished for Parents’ Sins?} Don't questions like 2 Kings 5: 27, 2 Kings 9:8, and Exodus 12: 29 contradict Ezekiel 18: 20 which says that sons cannot be punished for the sins of their fathers?8. 34:44 {Should We Ever Hate People?} Should we hate the evil doer (e.g., those who promote or perform abortion) or should we just keep their salvation in mind? Or can we do both at the same time?9. 38:19 {Can the Deceased Send us Signs?} How do you explain to someone that their dead loved one is not sending signs to them, no matter how convincing those signs are?10. 40:43 {About Questionable Worship Lyrics} I play guitar at my church. I don’t always agree with the theology couched in some songs. I don’t sing lines I don’t agree with, but I am still on stage. Would love to hear your general thoughts on this!11. 43:02 {How to Repent When We’re Not “Feeling” It} How do I repent unto salvation (repent and be saved) when I do not want to? I am asking from the current place of being unsaved.12. 45:04 {About the Fear of Eternity} A student recently shared a fear of hers: the idea of eternity, even if in Heaven. I have to admit I struggle with this, as well. Any advice for me, for how I can comfort her from the Bible?13. 49:45 {About our Music Choices} Is it OK to listen to old music from former Christians, like Kevin Max or Ray Boltz? Is their music prior to them leaving Christ OK to listen to?14. 52:36 {About Adam & Eve / Sin Nature} Were Adam and Eve created WITH a sin nature at their creation? If not, why then did they choose to sin in the first place, all the while God having called His creation good?15. 54:44 {About God being our Loving Father} I've been a believer for a very long time, but still struggle with the concept of God as loving Father. Mainly due to my upbringing. How do I overcome this? The doubt is overwhelming.16. 57:50 {Clashing Translations?} In 1 Corinthians 7, whom do verses 36-38 address? Some versions add "daughter," implying fathers, but ESV, in using "his betrothed" and "his passions" seem to indicate a groom.17. 1:01:44 {How to Witness to an Angry Person} My friend has left Christianity. His family is a bit extreme and aggressive with their faith, and he says they are what pushed him away from his. If I try to talk with him, he gets angry. What ca

Is this a prosperity church red flag?4. 22:00 {Are Murder Mysteries Appropriate for Believers?} I watched your video on Halloween, and I’m wondering what your thoughts are on murder mystery dinner parties (and for that matter, murder mysteries in general). What ca

You may have heard of popular Christians, like Rhett and Link, Kevin Max from DC Talk, the Gungors, and Jon Steingard, deconstructing their faith. Recently Kevin Max announced on https://twitter.com/kevinmax/status/1393440477714788352?s=20 (Twitter) that he is an Exvangelical. This was of course met by the typical Twitter reaction - those that agree with him cheered and rejoiced and those that didn't agree with him immediately went after him. There never seems to be a middle ground with twitter - and this is just another reason why Social Media is cancer - but this is neither here nor there. It seems that in the past few months there has been a trend where people that have any questions regarding their faith jump over investigating their faith and go immediately to marking themselves as exvangelical as they are deconstructing their faith. Some of the people that make this pronouncement, like Kevin Max, then go on to state that they believe in the universal christ. What does this mean? Let's discuss this. In Nashville, TN, where guitarists outnumber every other instrument, Lindsey Miller has been carving out an admirable niche for herself. Her fast-growing resume of artists, recording clients, and respected musical associates, has been a natural result of her unusually diverse skill set: @Grammy winning artists Lauren Daigle and Kevin Max, jazz luminaries Brian Blade, Keith Carlock, and Jeff Coffin, on concert stages with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, and tv shows like ABC/CMT Nashville. A Baptist with a Masters Degree in Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Lindsey shares her her experience lending her talents in the Catholic arena and her perspective on worship. Deconstruction. What in the world is it? Is it biblical? And is it just about asking questions? In this episode, I invite Pastor Peter Kim and Pastor Mark Lim to flesh out this term to investigate to see if this is benign or if this is something as Christians we should be wary of. Interestingly enough, this was the first episode that was requested by a viewer. Shoutout to John Yang for the idea. I refer to a couple blog posts in the beginning of the episode. You may have noticed, but over the last few years, there has been a number of influential Christian leaders renounce their faith, or "deconstruct" as some call it.Deconstruction has a spectrum. For some it means a complete abandonment of Christian thought and practice, while for others it's merely a departure from some tenants they used to hold and believe. The latest in this trend is Kevin Max of DCTalk. He let his followers know in a recent tweet that he has been on a decades long journey of deconstructing but still believes in the "Universal Christ."In this episode, I walk through these recent departures from faith and see if we can drill down on some root causes, what we can do about it in our churches, and what lessons we can learn as pastors and church leaders.

Longtime dcTalk member & solo artist Kevin Max hangs out for the full hour, covering plenty of ground from the early dcTalk days through his solo work (how many albums do you think he has released?) as well as his friendship with Larry Norman. Max displays a good sense of humor, wit and insight along the way and shares a fun glimpse into his family life too. We take time today to share the heart of why the Tim DeMoss Show exists (based on Scripture like John 3:16 and James chapter 2) and offer a cross-section of guests who have appeared on the program, including Jody McBrayer (Avalon), Jodi Benson (Ariel from The Little Mermaid), J.C. Romero (2008 Phillies World Series champion) and Carter Conlon (Sr Pastor of Times Square Church & author of It’s Time To Pray). We also give a sneak peak into upcoming guests includine Phil Robertson (Duck Dynasty), Kevin Max (dcTalk), Phil Joel (Newsboys), John Brazer (Phillies), and Dr. James Dobson (Focus on the Family / Family Talk). In our Famous Friday Show, we crank out fun songs like “Get Down” (Audio Adrenaline), “Try Micah” (ApologetiX parody of the Beatles’ “Drive My Car”), “Looking For You” by Kirk Franklin, and “Gated Community” from the VeggieTales/Silly Songs library. We also mix in Kevin Max of dcTalk’s version of “Birthday” in honor of Robert DeMoss Sr (Tim’s dad), who turns 91 years young today. “Advanced middle age” is how Tim’s dad often puts it, who asks if there might be a stipend or some sort of prize for appearing on the show—and despite not receiving one, still generously shares the secret to life. Family Hope Center director Matthew Newell gives a call in as well to let folks know about their upcoming training conference (March 13-15 in Norristown, PA) where they teach parents about the brain & how to proactively reengineer it (www.familyhopecenter.com for more information).
