It's time for a show that begs the question are we not ALL simply women of a certain age? We're flying into Palm Springs airport today to visit our Gay Golden Girls, and triumphant return of the multicam with Mid Century Modern! It's got all the staples of a true classic Multicam sitcom: A theme song, firm scene breaks, a big dumb dumb and EXPOSITION BABYYYY! Not to mention an absolute rockstar production, writing, and acting team with the return of our champion Jimmy Burrows (Cheers, Mary Tyler Moore, Friends, Will & Grace, Taxi, Frasier and more) but also Max Mutchnik and David Kohan the creators of Will & Grace. The squad behind this is so talented we put Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham and freaking NATHAN LANE after? Beautiful. After a challenge from guest host J. W. A gay Golden Girls? Say more! While Hulu's new show Mid-Century Modern is not the Golden Girls, it certainly gives you the nostalgia love bug for the Golden Girls. Because of that, we asked the show's stars Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer and Nathan Lee Graham which Golden Girl they are. We also compared the pilot of the Golden Girls to Mid-Century Modern, because both are brilliant. Listen to H. Alan Scott's full chat with Nathan, Nathan Lee and Matt on Newsweek's Parting Shot. When Will & Grace premiered on NBC in 1998, it was groundbreaking because of the sheer lack of queer representation on network TV. Since then, numerous sitcoms have increased LGBTQ+ visibility on TV, but rarely gay characters of an older generation. To fill that void, those same Will & Grace creators, Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, developed Hulu's Mid-Century Modern to show that while a multi-camera sitcom with three gay male leads is rare, the stories they are telling are universal. Led by Nathan Lane's Bunny Schneiderman, Mid-Century Modern finds undergarment tycoon Bunny inviting his two best friends—Jerry (played by Matt Bomer) and Arthur (played by Nathan Lee Graham)—to move in with him and his mother, Sybil (played by Linda Lavin). It is after the passing of one of their mutual friends that Bunny opens up his Palm Springs home. Newsweek's H. Alan Scott chats with Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer and Nathan Lee Graham about Mid-Century Modern, how it came about, and why it's so important right now. In this episode, Nathan shares how powerful women have guided him, learning to perform for a multi-camera sitcom, and why he focuses on always moving forward in life while protecting his inner circle carefully. WHAT EXACTLY IS THE PLAN HERE. Judy and Linda discuss season 2 of "Squid Game" (오징어게임), starring Lee JungJae and Lee ByungHun. Next episode will be a First Impressions with "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" (중증외상센터), "The Trunk" (트렁크), "When the Phone Rings" (지금 거신 전화는), and "The Queen Who Crowns" (원경). Digressions: 0:52 - Judy has finally acquired a can of pine drink (솔의눈) and we drank it! Our first attempt at ASMR! 9:08 - New Patreon donor and Listener E-mails! 17:44 - "Borderlands" movie is irredeemably awful, and Judy can't figure out who is was made for, other than the actors who were extremely bored during the pandemic. 21:12 - Gasp! Linda watched "Revenant" (악귀) starring Kim TaeRi? New horizons have opened up! 24:02 - "Gladiator II" was so disappointing. If you have such an uncharismatic lead character, who am I supposed to root for? Judy is mad that there isn't enough Pedro Pascal. 29:03 - Linda finally watched "Mister Sunshine" (미스터 션샤인) and found it to be beautiful but long. 32:40 - Judy's new dinnertime show is "White Collar", starring Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay. 34:50 - Linda watched "Blitz" starring Saoirse Ronan on Apple TV, which is excellent for historical reference but aimless as a film. 37:55 - Judy started playing "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle", and is thrilled that she gets to be the whip-cracking archaeologist. 40:47 - Linda watched Part 1 of "Alienoid" (외계+인), and found it...interesting. This week, Tommy is joined by Emmy nominated actors Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. You know Matt from his incredible performances in White Collar, The Boys in the Band, Maestro, The Normal Heart and more. Jonathan exploded into worldwide superstardom after his break-out role in Bridgerton, and he will be in the upcoming highly anticipated Wicked and Jurassic World films. But today the conversation is all about their incredibly powerful series, Fellow Travelers, which centers on the decades-long romance between two men who first meet during the height of McCarthyism in the 1950s. This is a special edition episode of my podcast because this interview is from an event I moderated, presented by the prestigious 92nd Street Y New York. The 92nd Street Y New York is a world class center for arts and innovation. They offer extensive in-person and online classes and events, including live talks, concerts, and dance performances. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all of your favorite fictional universes. The Merc with the Mouth and Logan have officially taken the title of highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, with Deadpool & Wolverine barely edging out 2019's Joker from that honor. As of this recording, the MCU romp has accumulated $1.14 billion. And while that's a tough ticket to beat, other late summer movies are tracking for big openings as well with Alien: Romulus debuting globally at more than $180 million and Tim Burton's sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, eyeing a potential $80 million opening - which would make it the biggest September opening of all time. Lucasfilm announced Tuesday that this year's new show The Acolyte will not receive a second season. The show was incredibly divisive among fans, though critically was well-received. Showrunner Leslye Headland had pitched ideas for a second season, but those will not come to fruition now. Sony Pictures released an extended look at their upcoming Spider-Man villain movie, Kraven the Hunter. The movie releases December 13 and has a star-studded cast featuring Russell Crowe and Ariana DeBose with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the Titular role,. The new promo provided a slightly longer look at the Rhino, played by Alessandro Nivola. It's the story that dominated the Marvel fandom last week - when Beau DeMayo claimed his credit will be removed from season two because he shared fan art for Gay Pride in June. DeMayo cited this as quote “...the latest in a troubling pattern I suffered through while working on #XMen97 and #Blade.” Marvel quickly released a statement, responding to DeMayo's claim that it was his behavior, called “egregious” in the statement, which was the cause of his loss of credit as well as his termination. Sources following these statements claimed that an agreement had been reached regarding social media around X-Men'97 and DeMayo breached that contract. Other sources claim DeMayo's termination was due to sexual misconduct, though no internal reviews have surfaced. Camila Mendes, who starred in the CW series Riverdale, will play Teela in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films' live-action take on Masters of the Universe and will star opposite Nicholas Galitzine, who is playing the role of He-Man. Marvel Comics announced a Kahhori: Reshaper of Worlds one-shot that will bring the character from season two of What If? into comics. Writer-director David O. Russell has cast Nicolas Cage to star in the lead role for Madden, the Amazon MGM Studios drama about the life of NFL coaching and broadcasting legend John Madden. "Will & Grace" creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, with executive producer Ryan Murphy, are bringing Hulu a comedy about chosen family. Starring executive producers Nathan Lane and Matt Bomer as well as Nathan Lee Graham, and Linda Lavin, this series follows three gay best friends who, after an unexpected death, decide to embrace their golden years together in sun-soaked Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother. Apple TV+ has renewed Dark Matter, starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, for a second season. Derek Connolly, a franchise writer with a resume that includes the Jurassic World movies, has been tapped to write a live-action adaptation of the Sega video game Eternal Champions for Skydance. Puck Magazine's Matt Belloni is reporting that Mattel, who had been shopping a Barbie animated film, has entered talks with Illumination to produce it and Warner Brothers and Greta Gerwig are reportedly “not thrilled” about it. Amazon's Prime Video has canceled My Lady Jane, the period drama which combined romance and alternate-world fantasy. The cancellation comes about seven weeks after Prime Video released all eight episodes of the show's first and now only season.

The Emmy-nominated actor, who played a closeted state department employee in the decade-spanning series Fellow Travelers, tells Rebecca that he's given up the quest for a perfect take: “I'm actually kind of hoping to fall on my face.”
There aren't many actors that are having, and about to have, a year like Jonathan Bailey. For Showtime's Fellow Travelers, a sprawling look at the Lavender Scare of the 1950s to the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s as told through the eyes of two lovers spanning these three decades, Bailey earned a Critics Choice Award for his performance in the series at Tim Laughlin and cheekily during his now viral speech thanking co-star Matt Bomer, “Those of you who have seen Fellow Travelers will know that Matt and I come together” and that was a moment I couldn't let pass by in my conversation with him after earning an Emmy nomination for Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie last month. He'll be guest starring on the third season of Netflix's Emmy-winning YA hit series Heartstopper in October and then the silver screen in November with the feature film version of the smash Broadway musical Wicked, portraying Fiyero, the prince of princes in the land of Oz. He's set to return to the stage next year in Richard II and oh, he'll also have the fourth Jurassic World film to catapult him into even more mainstream screen stardom next summer. For Bailey though, his focus is being able to talk about Fellow Travelers and like his co-star and fellow Emmy nominee Matt Bomer (read our interview with Bomer here), bringing the truth about this period in American history is something he's passionate about. Based on the 2007 novel by Thomas Mallon and created for television by Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia), the story chronicles the lives of staid State Department official Hawkins ‘Hawk' Fuller (Bomer) and rebellious but deeply Catholic political neophyte with the eagerness of a golden retriever, who wants to work in the Eisenhower administration in the late 1950s as the government began weeding out anyone suspected of homosexuality. Through marriages and children, secret retreats and rendezvous that push into the civil rights era of the 1960s, the gay sexual liberation of the 1970s and the brutality of the political reaction to the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, Hawk and Tim live deeply complicated and conflicting lives; of love and commitment, or lack thereof, of unbridled passion and sex, and ultimately acceptance. He goes into great detail about how the book and series came to him, how much he wanted to do a gay romance of this scope after hitting such a starry stride from the huge success of Bridgerton. With both of us being gay men, Bailey's language quickly becomes an inclusive ‘we' and ‘our' and he also takes time to ask what my experience and knowledge was like. I mention my grandparents, who probably never knew what the Lavender Scare was and he talks about how his 92-year old nana, who was born the same year as his character, watched the show and recalled someone she knew and worked alongside with who was gay and killed himself and that the show was able to reveal a way for her to process and understand it. He wants to relate and wants Fellow Travelers to reach and be related to. But through serious questions, Bailey and I take time to have fun. To joke about his Critics Choice speech, to talk about carrying Kylie Minogue to the stage at Hyde Park with Andrew Scott. “The real trophy for any gay man is carry Kylie Minogue,” he says, and he can't help but comment on Bomer's toes (“the most delicious I've ever come across”) and we venture into the show's nakedly erotic and vulnerable sex scenes. So cheeky. Bailey also wants to make sure that I knew the collective effort it took for him to bring Tim to life, shouting out his agents and reps (“The power of asking ‘why not?'”), and the cumulative nature of allyship in aligning him with gay journalists that ‘get it' because we're a part of the same community. “This is interview is knockout, one of my favorites,” he says, not to toot my own horn too much but then again, why not? As he says, “The conversations open when opportunities arise.” Jonathan Bailey is Emmy-nominated in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Fellow Travelers with the episode “Make It Easy.”

As a promising theater student at Carnegie Mellon, Matt Bomer's trajectory pointed towards the shimmering stages of Broadway. But upon arrival in Manhattan, he instead landed a role on a soap opera—slightly out of step with the theatrical future he envisioned. And yet today, Bomer views those early years as vital to his later success. The Golden Globe Award-winner has starred in feature films, plays, and television shows including the recent Fellow Travelers. On this week's episode of Table for Two, Bomer joins host and AIR MAIL contributor Bruce Bozzi to reflect further on his beginnings, the lessons taught to him on set by Jodie Foster and Bradley Cooper, and the experience of coming up in the entertainment industry as a gay man.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

For this week's third podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, Alyssa Christian & Danilo Castro. Today, we are reviewing the second directorial effort from Academy Award-nominee Bradley Cooper with "Maestro," starring Cooper, Carey Mulligan, Sarah Silverman, Matt Bomer, Josh Hamilton & Maya Hawke. A Netflix biopic less about the music of world-renowned conductor Leonardo Bernstein and more about his marriage with Felicia Montealegre, the film marks an artistic leap for Cooper both in front and behind the camera as he deploys many classical filmmaking tricks to take us through decades of an artists life. What did we think of the story, writing, performances, cinematography, sound, and makeup used to age the characters? Tune in as we discuss these elements, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... Showrunner Ron Nyswaner joins Mase & Sue on the CULTURE POP PODCAST to talk about his masterful adaptation of Thomas Mallon's novel, FELLOW TRAVELERS, Showtime's historical romance political thriller starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. He shares the rules he set with his writing staff, the creative behind the intimate, honest sex scenes, the significance of the end credits songs, studio executive notes, and the importance of casting gay actors. We also discuss his Academy award winning screenplay for PHILADELPHIA, the story behind the iconic Tom Hanks aria scene, the impact director Jonathan Demme had on his career and how he bounced back from a dark period in his life. Plus, mental health, Gotham Award winners and a 70-year old woman becomes a first time mom.
In today's Hot Topics, the co-hosts share their reaction to the fourth Republican debate, Rep. McCarthy departure from the House, 'Time' naming Taylor Swift their 'Person of the Year,' and they weigh in on age gap relationships. Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer discuss teaming up for 'Fellow Travelers' — which explores a romance between two male government staffers during the "Lavender Scare” of the 1950s — and share the importance of learning from history and gay representation. The sweeping new Showtime series Fellow Travelers chronicles a relationship between two gay men played by Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. It spans the McCarthy Era of the 1950s through the AIDS crisis of the 1980s. One is perfectly content to stay in the closet and live a lie, and the other wants more out of their relationship. As the years pass the two men keep coming back together only to find the power dynamic between them shifting back and forth.
Showtime's new limited series, Fellow Travelers, takes us back to the 1950s AND the 1980s via Matt Bomer's closeted Don Draper-esque life and loves -- and the great Joe Reid is back in the guest chair to talk about whether the whole is less than the sum of a few very good parts; what Roy Cohn content might do a better job with midcentury context than this show; and how much sex creates character development. Then we went Around The Dial with Everyone Else Burns, The Fall of the House of Usher, and Paramount+'s Milli Vanilli documentary, and Tara plotted to get a tenth (!) Simpsons episode into the Canon. Seth Rogen's ceramics hobby won, an ex-SNL writer lost, and we piled into the virtual minivan for a road-trippy Game Time. Moisturize your necks: it's an all-new Extra Hot Great! GUESTS
