Originally Recorded on May 18th and May 26th, 2026 Happy Summer, fans! That Horror Show Podcast presents a horror double-feature review that is perfect to listen to while you are catching some rays while lounging beside the pool (always wear some sunscreen!)...or while you are mowing your lawn (careful you don't get your feet cut off!). Show hosts Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig tackle two films that are remakes of original work by the 'Godfather of Gore' himself Herschell Gordon Lewis! Nobody ever thought about remaking anything Lewis made...but then, it always takes a few wise-asses to consider the possibilities. So first up is "2001 Maniacs" (2005), a reworking of Lewis' original film "Two Thousand Maniacs!" (1964) and pretty much tells the same tale again (ie, a bunch of Northern tourists end up in a mysterious Southern town and are treated as 'guests of honor' and chaos ensues; you know, the normal story!), but this time with more comedy combined with gore. Oh, and it features Robert Englund and Lin Shaye along for the ride, so those two are major pluses! And for the second film is "Blood Feast" (2016), a complete overhaul of the original 1963 film of the same name, however this new version has a longer running time, better acting, and more story to tell...but, does that make it a "better" movie? And fear not: Nate from his own 'Nate's Corner' is on hand to give his review of "Final Destination" (2000).

Horror history gets dangerously domestic this week as This Week in Horror History travels through June 1–7 with haunted houses, killer sequels, cursed children, dystopian violence, mature themes, and one deeply uncomfortable genetic-engineering nightmare. This episode digs into a packed week of classic horror movies, cult horror sequels, supernatural horror, Blumhouse hits, and underrated sci-fi body horror, including the return of Norman Bates, the suburban nightmare of Poltergeist, the perfectly timed 6/6/06 release of The Omen remake, and the birth of The Purge as a modern horror franchise.Inside this episode:• Psycho II brings Norman Bates back to the Bates Motel in one of horror's most surprisingly strong legacy sequels.• Poltergeist turns the American dream house into a supernatural trap full of TV static, cursed land, and unforgettable 1980s horror imagery.• The Omen remake arrives on 6/6/06, turning a horror release date into pure Antichrist marketing gold.• The Purge launches a massive Blumhouse franchise with one terrifying idea: for twelve hours, all crime is legal.• The Deep-Cut Spotlight goes to Splice, the disturbing 2010 sci-fi horror film about genetic engineering, parental failure, and the nightmare of creating life without the courage to take responsibility for it.Plus: a horror birthday roll featuring Danielle Harris, Keith David, Robert Englund, and Jessica Tandy, a creepy look at what these stories say about control, family, suburbia, and civilization, and a weekly recommendation for Sean Byrne's vicious prom-night horror film The Loved Ones. From haunted television screens to cursed children, science gone rotten, and a society where the rules turn off for one night, this week proves horror is often scariest when it moves into the places that were supposed to keep us safe.
Scrapbooking, Tommy Lee Jones impersonations, and the battle that we're not sure anyone asked for - we cap off our Nightmare series with Robert Englund's final appearance as Freddy Krueger in 2003's "Freddy vs. Jason"!

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman, marking my 109th episode of VideoFuzzy titled "Luther, Earnest and The Doctor," reporting the progress I've made in cataloging thousands of VHS transfers and digital recordings, and as of this coming month, June of 2026, I'm marking nine years of VideoFuzzy! [2:20] I celebrate that milestone in part with Part 2 of my conversation with musician, media critic and longtime friend Mikey Heinrich from Minneapolis. Part 1 posted as part of sister podcast effort VideoFuzzy the Soundtrack "Ep. 17: Long Way Down" at https://bit.ly/3MJkPkK In part 2, we chatted primarily about "Knives Out 3: Wake Up, Dead Man" and "Doctor Who." [IG] Mikey Heinrich can be found at his YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@MikeyHeinrich and blogs Doux Reviews: https://www.douxreviews.com/ and 42nd Vizsla: https://the42ndvizsla.blogspot.com/ [31:06] My Fuzzy Feature talked in some detail about the series premiere of BBC's "Luther," [IG] starring Idris Elba in the title role, Detective Inspector John Luther. CONTENT WARNING: Some discussion of animal cruelty was critical to the investigation and therefore unavoidable. I talked about the child abduction case he took on at the top of the episode, and the parents of astrophysicist Alice Morgan, played by Ruth Wilson. They were found shot dead in their home along with the family's dog. Luther's investigation loops in his supervisor, DSU Rose Teller, and his new partner, DS Justin Ripley, and coincides with developments in his separation from Zoe, his wife, played by Indira Varma, namely her lover Mark North, played by Paul McGann. [1:01:30] In Cross Connections, I trace connections for Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson through my media collection. I identify Stephen Root, Jon Curry and Ben Schwartz as Golden Threads. Also Colin Salmon, David Allan Grier, Robert Englund, Ken Jenkins, Rob Morrow, Maura Tierney, Tzi Ma, Patrick Fischler, Todd Stashwick, Caterina Scorsone, Frances Conroy, Diane Farr and Christian Clementsen. Fond Reflection to Eric Dane and his many years on "Grey's Anatomy." [1:14:14] In my Classic Collection [VHS-to-DVD transfers], I cataloged discs 2001 through 2025. Comments on "Grey's Anatomy," Chelsea Handler's appearance as host of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and comments at the recent roast of Kevin Hart on Netflix. Also, "The Simpsons," [IG] "Glee," [IG] "Mike & Molly," "Undercovers," "Castle," "Rubicon," "The Office" and "Community." [1:29:38] In my Current Collection [direct to digital], I archived the National Theatre presentation of Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest" [IG] starring Ncuti Gatwa, Hugh Skinner, Sharon D. Clark, Ronke Adoluejo, Eliza Scanlen and Amanda Lawrence. [1:31:28] In Book Reports, I chat about Charlotte Brontë's "Jane Eyre," Emily Brontë's "Wuthering Heights," Daphne du Maurier's "Rebecca" and Margot Douaihy's "Scorched Grace," all of which I can trace as recommendations at one time or another by the "All About Agatha" podcast. Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) is a beloved cult horror film that celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year. With that great milestone came the news of a long-awaited sequel, Behind the Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon, which begins shooting this Fall. After the original debuted at SXSW in '06, word of mouth spread like wildfire and a new horror icon was born. Genre favorites Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Zelda Rubenstein (Poltergeist) rounded out the cast as well as the late Scott Wilson (In Cold Blood), who gave a great performance as Leslie Vernon's mentor "Eugene". A direct sequel was originally planned, but unfortunately didn't pan out due to financial restraints that ultimately did not provide an adequate budget for the project. For many years, a sequel had been teased, rumored and gossiped, but now it can officially be yelled from the rooftops - LESLIE VERNON IS BACK! At a sold-out screening in LA on April 9th, "Vernonites" flocked to see the film on the big screen to celebrate its 20th Anniversary. There was also a Cast and Crew Q+A featuring writer David J. Stievie, director Scott Glosserman, actors Robert Englund, Nathan Baesel, Angela Goethals and many more in attendance! At the end of the discussion, a surprise video played to the crowd, officially announcing the brand new sequel as a locked production. They then talked a bit about the Kickstarter campaign and how they hoped to secure as much additional financial backing as they can, but how they would only be able to get there with help from the fans. With a launch date on April 22nd a goal set for $20,000, there was a little time to spread the word and build momentum. When the campaign officially began, they raised the goal in 9 minutes. In a few short weeks, they have far surpassed all expectations, with over $320,000 raised and a few days left in the fundraiser. Not only will Robert Englund be returning, but also the rest of the core cast and crew will be as well including Angela Goethals, who you may recognize as "Linnie McCallister" from Home Alone (1990). There is also rumored to be some new cameos from other genre-favorite actors as well, which will be announced soon. Writer David J. Stievie is back with another phenomenal script and is joining forces once again with director Scott Glosserman. If you're able to support the project in any way or would like to pick up any Leslie Vernon merchandise, head to leslievernonreturns.com. There you will be connected directly to the campaign and can check out the vast array of perks that are in store for you. In the spirit of championing horror, we must band together to get projects like this off the ground and in movie theaters. Self distribution is becoming more commonplace in the industry and the fans help make it happen. Be sure to follow the Cast and Crew on social media to follow their journey as they head back to Glen Echo! This episode was co-presented by Jeremy Morehead of Epic Film Guys. Check out his show and and all the incredible review episodes they've done on your favorite horror movies! #BehindTheMaskTheRiseofLeslieVernon #BehindtheMaskII #TheReturnofLeslieVernon #GlenEcho #RobertEnglund #FreddyKrueger #PaperStreet #Kickstarter
As soon as I arrived at Crypticon Seattle, I made a beeline to the celebrity meet and greet room, knowing that Nathan Baesel was going to be in attendance. This event is the flagship horror community gathering in the Pacific Northwest. I didn’t know whether I’d get the chance to interview the actor who played one of my all-time favorite slasher villains, Leslie Vernon. The lines for these meet-and-greets can get long, and I might not have enough time for an interview. This day, luck was on my side. It’s the twenty-year anniversary of the cult classic meta-slasher film Behind the Mask: The Legend of Leslie Vernon. Not only did I get the opportunity, but I also discovered that The Scariest Things could do our part to help evangelize by getting the word out about the just-announced sequel, Behind The Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon. For those of you unfamiliar with the movie, it is one of the great meta-horror movies in the slasher genre. It stands side by side with Scream, The Final Girls, and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare as a gold standard of meta-horror. Like those peer films, it uses wit and familiarity with slasher film tropes. It winks and nudges, and then gets SERIOUS. The movie also emerged at the dawn of the found-footage horror film. It uses the verisimilitude of the documentary crew following the actions of a serial killer, convinced that by playing to Leslie’s ego, the film crew was immune from his depradations. They couldn’t have been more wrong. And yet, he let them in on all his secrets. It’s an absolute must-watch for fans of knife-wielding maniac movies. For more insight on Leslie Vernon, The Scariest Things previously discussed this film in podcast Episodes 199: Mockumentaries and 130: Masked Killers. The Big Announcement: Time has been kind to Nathan, as he has kept up with his cardio… an important factor for a hard-working serial killer. He is all set to put the mask back on. Now it’s time to get the band back together. Scott Glosserman returns to direct the film, and David Stieve is back to write the screenplay. Nathan will be joined by our final girl, Angela Goethals (Taylor Gentry), returning to do battle with Leslie. The legendary Robert Englund (Doc Halloran) is back to train her. The closing moments of the first movie suggested that a good serial killer is hard to kill. It just took 20 years to get him back on screen! Click here for the movie’s Kickstarter Campaign. It is being scheduled for release in 2027. There are some awesome exclusive add-ons, including a replica Leslie Vernon Mask, a trip to the shoot, a scythe prop, advance cast and crew screenings (That means if you wanted to meet Robert Englund… here’s your chance!), and all the way up to getting a chance to be killed on screen by Leslie in the movie! I mean, come on… how cool is that? They’ve already unlocked a couple of the stretch goals. The next big one ($300,000) is for a new horror icon cameo. Such is the joy of Kickstarter! From my perspective, I’m really hoping they hit the “More Shooting Time” Stretch goal ($500,000). That can mean the world to production quality. Do it! Contribute! The power of the Scariest Things compels you! C’mon, you know you want a T-shirt. It’s for a good horror cause. The Interview with Nathan Baesel: As noted before, I got lucky. Nathan had a free moment, and he was very generous with his time. Needless to say, I got a huge kick out of this chat. Check out my interview with him in this player link: A Message Straight from Nathan: In addition to the interview, he was eager to make a Kickstarter pitch.
Horror is having its moment. It's dominating the film industry, with ‘Sinners' recieving a record 16 nominations and four wins at this year's Oscars – Frankenstein and Weapons getting their nods as well. And a man who will forever be synonymous with horror is Robert Englund – the original Freddy Krueger. Even though he's long since hung up his fedora, striped sweater, and razor-fingered gloves, he's still involved in highly influential thriller projects, including Netflix's Stranger Things. “I'm so proud of Sinners for, for kind of being one of the first horror films since ‘Silence of the Lambs', then before that, perhaps ‘Rosemary's Baby', to really kind of be taken seriously at its time by the academy,” he told Jack Tame. “I think Sinners has really begun another kind of renaissance,” Englund said. “I sort of thought for a minute there that maybe all the zombie projects had sort of exhausted the audience, you know, for a while, but you know, Sinners was so fresh and so wonderful.” Some may take a view that horror is a lower form of art, that the actors just turn up and snarl, unaware of the training many horror actors have. Englund for example, was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. “What it does is it gives you a technique if you need it,” he explained. “I sometimes get parts, I can't believe they want me for these roles ... so then you have this technique to rely on. It's an opening.” Performing for stage is also quite different than performing for screen – on stage you have to exaggerate things, perform to the back of the room, whereas screen acting requires a more naturalistic performance. But for Freddy, he brought those elements of stage acting into his performance. “I didn't worry about my thinning hair, and I didn't worry about my good side or my bad side, and I was able to change my voice and I was able to move differently than Robert Englund would normally move on film because Freddy occupies this sort of surreal imagination,” Englund told Tame. “I don't like to use the word dance, but I was able to physicalize him more, kind of paint him into the frame of the imagination of whoever was having a nightmare about him, and that was really liberating.” “Playing Freddy for all those years was actually a very liberating thing for me, and it kind of gave me a career on the other side that I know I wouldn't normally have had because I had been established as a genre star.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

From Nightmare to Fan Fame: Heather Langenkamp's Hollywood Journey In this captivating episode of Reza Rifts, Keith sits down with one of horror cinema's most beloved and enduring icons Heather Langenkamp, the actress who gave the world Nancy Thompson in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Far more than a trip down horror memory lane, this conversation is a genuine, wide-ranging exploration of what it means to build a life in Hollywood from the grueling audition grind to the unexpected emotional weight of fame. Heather opens up about being cast by Wes Craven while still a student at Stanford University, what it was like to work alongside legends like Robert Englund, and how the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise became something far bigger and more meaningful than anyone could have predicted in 1984. The conversation digs deep into the evolution of horror fandom how audiences have transformed from passive moviegoers into passionate, lifelong communities and why Freddy Krueger resonates so deeply as a metaphor for the personal demons we all carry. Heather also reflects on her I Am Nancy documentary, navigating career challenges as a woman in Hollywood, the surprising world of practical special effects through her company AFX Studio, and what she wishes she could tell her younger self. Warm, funny, and full of genuine wisdom, this is the kind of conversation that reminds you why you fell in love with movies in the first place. Guest Bio Heather Langenkamp (born July 17, 1964, Tulsa, Oklahoma) is an American actress, filmmaker, businesswoman, and radio personality whose career has spanned more than four decades. A Stanford University student when she first auditioned for Wes Craven, Heather beat out over 200 actresses to land the role of Nancy Thompson in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) a performance that would make her one of the most recognizable faces in horror history. Tread Perilously rounds out '80s flashback month with the lowest rated episode of V: The Series -- "War of Illusions." Just as Diana nears completion on her battlesphere -- a device certain to end the Resistance -- Mike Donovan gets word of an impending Visitor invasion and must find a former CalTech professor to crack the code of the alien technology. The professor, meanwhile, has a son who is much better at hacking into the Visitors' network. Will they team up with Donovan? Will Diana's new boy toy round up all the Resistance fighters in Highland Park? And will Dr. Julie Parrish make any sort of appearance at all? Erik immediately declares Diana -- and actor Jane Badler -- a murder brunette. The Ashmore Alert fires a false alarm. Justin missed the battlesphere prop and is amused to discover a Spencer's Gift classic is used to represent the tech. The pair praise guest actor Conrad Janis, a mainstay of '80s TV even if you don't know his name. They also discuss their history with V. The shaky metaphor of the series leads to some mixed messages. More Highlander remake discussion occurs. A wild Robert Englund appears! Justin envisions actor Judson Scott as the evil Automan and Kevin Mitnick seemingly enters the chat.

This week, Don and Jon strap on the 3D glasses (yes, those glasses) and descend into the neon-lit, cartoonish chaos of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. Was this supposed to be the final nail in the Elm Street coffin… or just a studio-approved cash grab wearing Freddy's glove? We slice into the film's troubled production, Rachel Talalay's wild swing at the franchise and Robert Englund's fully Looney Tunes style Freddy. We talk gimmicky 3D kills, did-we-need-them cameos, standout deaths and how this movie somehow laughed its way to box-office success while critics sharpened their knives. Is Freddy's Dead a misunderstood finale? A tonal nightmare? Or the moment the franchise tripped over its own punchline and face-planted into the dream world? We argue what works, roast what doesn't, drop trivia like bodies, and debate whether this one truly belongs near the bottom of the Elm Street pantheon. So pour yourself some coffee… because sleep is overrated. One, two, time to review...

The Blind Rage Podcast kicks off Shitty Remakes Month with A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (2010), a lifeless reboot that somehow manages to make dreams boring. Gone is the dark humor, the surreal energy, and the iconic menace of Robert Englund. In their place: a washed-out color palette, joyless exposition, and a Freddy who sounds like he needs a throat lozenge more than revenge. It's not scary, it's not clever—it's just tired.

You've seen the slasher from every possible point of view...or have you? Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is about an aspiring slasher who brings along a documentary crew for the ride to show them what he does and how he does it. The humor is dark. The references are thick on the ground. The twists, well, you'll have to see those. This one created a hard point of disagreement between our usually agreeable hosts. "You're just a little pregnant."The Horror Bulls cradle A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989), a gothic swing for the fences where Freddy weaponizes pregnancy, comic books, and grief. We dissect the dream logic, the beautiful production design, and why this one feels more Hellraiser than Elm Street.

Get ready for a deep dive into the making of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge as it marks its 40th year. We explore the film's production, legacy, and how director Jack Sholder and writer David Chaskin shaped a chapter of the Elm Street saga that became a cult classic due in large part to its homoerotic themes and subject material. We reflect on how the film may have been misunderstood 40 years ago but has garnered a larger reassessment as it stands for something bigger within the horror genre. Joining in for this discussion is JC of mercwiththemovies who offers up considerable insight about this divisive second entry of the franchise. With performances from Mark Patton, Kim Myers, and Robert Rusler, plus Robert Englund's chilling presence as Freddy Krueger, discover why A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge is a worthy entry of the franchise.Links For Guests: MercWithTheMoviesWhere To Watch A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge

RUNDOWN Is Mitch secretly a MOBSTER? The guys ride the high of a Seahawks blowout while fretting an Earnest Jones IV injury and torching D.C.'s awful turf, then rip through birthday/lore nuggets. An unforgettable World Series finish, seen through a Seattle lens—taking petty joy in Toronto's collapse while admitting Game 7 (and the under-discussed, error-filled Game 6) will haunt Mariners fans for years. Then it's all Seahawks: a near-perfect beatdown in D.C., vintage throwback uniforms, and why John Schneider should chase help at WR/OL/LB before the deadline. Mitch, Brady, and Jacson break down Seattle's 38–14 primetime rout of Washington — a game where both sides of the ball finally clicked. They discuss Sam Darnold's near-perfect night (one of only four 97+ QBRs in the NFL this season — three belonging to him), Mike Macdonald's astounding 11–1 road record, and the play-calling brilliance driving the offense. Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to break down a wild week in college football — from the bloated buyouts fueling a $160 million coaching carousel to Washington's unlikely playoff path. The two dive into quarterback drama, "alma mater alimony," and the rise of dual-threat sensation Demond Williams, before wrapping with Taco Time's weekly honors — including a nod to Oklahoma's kicker and his unforgettable Daisy Duke game-day look. Christian Caple joins Mitch to assess the Huskies' 6–2 season and the playoff math that could still put Washington in the 12-team field if they run the table. He breaks down the defense's ability to hang with Oregon, the tricky stretch at UCLA, and how Jed Fish's success could make him a hot-commodity coach with a star quarterback in tow. This episode in our Tales of Horror series centers on the characters who haunt Elm Street, from Nancy's legacy to the new dream-warriors who take up the fight in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. We highlight Heather Langenkamp's enduring heroine Nancy Thompson, Patricia Arquette's breakout energy, and Robert Englund's chilling and iconic Freddy Krueger. We also examine how the film gives space to a diverse ensemble, including Craig Wasson, Ken Sagoes, Rodney Eastman, Jennifer Rubin, Bradley Gregg, Ira Heiden, Laurence Fishburne and Penelope Sudrow—while weaving in the returning favorites such as John Saxon. Director Chuck Russell, with inspiration from Wes Craven's original dream logic and Frank Darabont's storytelling craft, crafts a nightmare that remains a touchstone for the genre. From the dream-world rules and inventive death sequences to the film's legacy in horror cinema, this episode covers what made Dream Warriors a fan favorite and a turning point in the series.Where To Watch A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
Happy Spooky Season, Everyone! As many of you know, scary movies freak me out. But that doesn't mean I don't love today's guest! Today I'm talking to a horror icon— Freddy himself, Robert Englund! Robert is beloved for his performance as Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street and its many sequels. He has also had an illustrious career outside of Wes Craven's franchise, appearing in hundreds of films and TV shows, including a recent appearance as Victor Creel in Stranger Things. On Halloween of this year, he will be immortalized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and it could not be going to a sweeter, more generous person. Robert is a joy to talk with and I'm so honored he took the time to chat with me. We have gotten to know each other over years at conventions and we have a great conversation about what it's like to be associated with an iconic role, his warm relationship with horror fans and how he used his experience on-set to inform his performance as Freddy. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did— and Happy Halloween!
